• Does Ruby/Rails require more unit testing than say a PHP app?

  I don't find the unit testing push in the PHP market like I see/read in the ruby/rails arena. Could one just as easily NOT unit test in ruby/rails as in php, or is ruby just too bendable and breakable that it "more" recommended to test in ruby than in php? Meaning there are large code bases like vBulletin, and from what I can tell, they don't unit test. I hope you understand what I am asking here, not the pros/cons of testing, or whether one should test or not, but rather, does one language need to be tested more than another? maybe its easy to write buggy code, or break during refactoring etc.

I found this article on MSDN: XamlName Grammar Which describes the grammar of a x:Name tag but doesn't tell me how to actually apply this. Clearly there is some code to validate this name at runtime but what is the easiest way to actually fix up a string with invalid characters?

  Hey everyone, I have an ANT build that I need to setup so on deployment of the .war a certain file will be placed in a specific location. I know we have heisenbugs, bohrbugs, mandelbugs, and so on, but I feel I'm lacking one more buzzword: what's the IT cousin to idiopathic cardiomyopathy?   I'm just getting started with Groovy/Grails. I added a new domain controller to my project, and generate-controller doesn't like it. There are other indications something's wrong: If I run the app no table is actually created in the database for this. I've reduced the DomainController to one String field and no constraints, just to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my specification. I also tried renaming it, just in case there was something about the original name (Privacy) that conflicted with something. I'm sure I have the correct name, and that the file is called PrivacyOptions.groovy and inside the class is also called PrivacyOptions. • Drupal menu item disappears for Anonymous User, I dont want that happening!

  Good day I'm using Drupal 6, and I have a menu item that points to a Forum page. I only want the forums accesible by registered users, but if they aren't logged in/registered I want drupal to display a login/register page. Im using a 403redirect module to handle that, and that is fine. My problem is, I have the menu item pointing to /forum. And when I'm not logged in, the menu item disappears. How can I stop that from happening? Thanks

  TLDR When clicking on a link I want to assign a cookie with a name of instrument and a value of the text on the link clicked. Using Jquery.1.4.2.min.js, Jquery.cookie.1.0.js I am trying to create a cookie when a link is clicked (will always link to "page.html"). name of instrument value of the TEXT So far I am trying to use: Link1: <a href="page.html">link1</a> Link2: <a href="page.html">link2</a> Script: $('a[href=page.html]').click(function() { var name = 'instrument'; var value = $(this).text(); $.cookie(name, value, { expires: 365 }); }); When I click the link it just loads the link and no cookie is set. Debugging with firebug, firecookie, firequery. No cookie for instrument or anything along the lines is found. Onload I'll hit the "<a href="page.html">projects</a>" but not the "$.cookie(name, value, { expires: 365 });" at all.

  I have a number of .js files that I would like to be stored in the same directories as their views (they're specific to a view - its simply to keep the javascript separate from the view's HTML) However, adding them to the /Views/ControllerName/ directory wont work because when a request is made to the webserver for the .js file: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Views/ControllerName/myscript.js"></script> It would essentially be directed at the 'Views' controller which obviously doesnt exist. • Why does SQLite say it can't read SQL from a file?

  Hi all. I have a bunch of SQL in a file, which creates the tables and so forth. The problem is that the .read command simply returns "can't open xxx" when I try to execute it. I've set the permissions to everybody read/write, but that didn't help. I can cat the file from the command line and see it fine. This is under Mac OS 10.6.3. Anybody have any idea here? Thanks!

  I continue to work on a printer for F# quoted expressions, it doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd like to see what is possible. The active patterns in Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.Patterns and Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.DerivedPatterns used for decomposing quoted expressions will typically provide MemberInfo instances when appropriate, these can be used to obtain the name of a property, function, etc. and their "declaring" type, such as a module or static class. The problem is, I only know how to obtain the CompiledName from these instances but I'd like the F# name. • Is "campaign_$" a bad name for a SQL column?

  PostgreSQL has allowed me to name a column "campaign_$". I like the name because it's short and to the point, and other potential names like "campaign_receipts" seem longer and less clear. BUT, I wonder if I'll eventually regret putting a $ symbol in a column name, either in PHP or in some other distant part of the architecture. Should I just stick to letters and underscores? Thanks!
