• Will_paginate stuck on page 2

  For some reason my will_paginate collection is stuck on page 2. I have the usual links the view helper provides except every page after page one links to http://localhost:3000/ceo/gr_messages?page=2 I have tried to add the :order option with no luck. I have also ensured that the request is a get as mentioned on this page: http://wiki.github.com/mislav/will_paginate/simple-search Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

  Coco gives error: Thu Jun 10 19:13:56 myComputer.local myApp[####] <Error>: doClip: empty path. But I don't have this function anywhere in my code (can't find by searching in frameworks / project)... Seems a lot of people complain about this because it goes into the console logs, but couldn't find any reason given as to what causes it on a progmatic level. Any thoughts as to what the problem is?

  I'm trying to implement paging using row-based limiting (for example: setFirstResult(5) and setMaxResults(10)) on a Hibernate Criteria query that has joins to other tables. Understandably, data is getting cut off randomly; and the reason for that is explained here. As a solution, the page suggests using a "second sql select" instead of a join. How can I convert my existing criteria query (which has joins using createAlias()) to use a nested select instead?

• Is it a good idea to keep all the enums in one place?

  When I'm building a class library I usually create a file Enums.cs to hold all the enums used in the assembly. Here is an example: namespace MyNamespace { public enum Colors { Red, Green, Blue } public enum Shapes { Circle, Square, Triangle } } This makes all my enums easy to find, well organized and easy to access in code. I'm wondering if there is any reason why this would not be such a good idea?

  When using the cgi module in Python, I can't seem to figure out how to extract CGI variables in the URL. For example if the url servercgi.py?name=user , how do I get 'name' after import cgi? For some reason, form.getvalue and form['user'] do not work but if I print the object, I see something like FieldStorage(None, None, [MiniFieldStoreage('name', 'user')]).

• Silverlight project fails to compile

  I have a Silverlight 3 project in VS2008. Today, for whatever reason, I get an error when compiling. Configuration system failed to initialize It reports the error on Line 1, Column 1 for every .xaml file in the project. I did a repair on VS2008, reinstalled all the Silverlight 3 bits (e.g. SDK, VS2008 tools and the Controls Toolkit), but the problem still persists. Am I missing something simple?

Is there a method I can use to make my code more "secure" or at least encrypt/hide the strings? The reason I want to encrypt the string is it's a password for a server.   Visual Studio 2010 seems to insist on having this import in web application projects <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath32)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" /> What does this import give us and is it really required? On a side note if you remove this import with a text editor Visual studio will re-add it. The reason i am asking is when the project is compiled on a build server that target does nor exists because visual studio is not installed.

  Are there any downsides to UPX-ing my 32-bit Python 2.6.4 development environment EXE/PYD/DLL files? The reason I'm asking is that I frequently use a custom PY2EXE script that UPX's copies of these files on every build. Yes, I could get fancy and try to cache UPXed files, but I think a simpler, safer, and higher performance solution would be for me to just UPX my Python 2.6.4 directory once and be done with it. For some reason though, longs compile but floats do not: class MY_CONSTS { public : static const long LONG_CONST = 1; // Compiles static const float FLOAT_CONST = 0.001f; // C2864 }; Gives the following error: 1>c:\projects\myproject\Constant_definitions.h(71) : error C2864: 'MY_CONSTS::FLOAT_CONST' : only static const integral data members can be initialized within a class Am I missing something?

• Switching between landscape views

  What is the best way to switch between views that are both in Landscape mode? I've tried with a simple "Push and Pop" methods that work fine when I try them with Portrait views but when I do it with Landscape for some reason it does the switching like the method was supposed to work just for Portrait views and a the end of the switch it autorotates back to Landscape.... if anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated.   For some unknown reason I'm running into a problem when passing a variable to a full text search stored procedure performs many times slower than executing the same statement with a constant value. Any idea why and how can that be avoided? This executes very fast: SELECT * FROM table WHERE CONTAINS (comments, '123') This executes very slowly and times out: DECLARE @SearchTerm nvarchar(30) SET @SearchTerm = '123' SET @SearchTerm = '"' + @SearchTerm + '"' SELECT * FROM table WHERE CONTAINS (comments, @SearchTerm) Does this make any sense???
