  • Error when trying to start Apache after installing SSL cert

    I am trying to install an SSL certificate, and I get the following errors: AH02241: Init: Unable to read server certificate from file /path/my.crt SSL Library Error: error:0D0680A8:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_CHECK_TLEN:wrong tag SSL Library Error: error:0D07803A:asn1 encoding routines:ASN1_ITEM_EX_D2I:nested asn1 error (Type=X509) AH02312: Fatal error initialising mod_ssl, exiting. Here's the process I followed: I generated my private key with: openssl genrsa -out my.key 2048 I created the CSR with: openssl req -new -key my.key -out my.csr I provided the CSR to our IT department, and they returned a crt - it starts with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- My ssl.conf has (my.example.com matches the Common name used during the generation of the CSR): <VirtualHost my.example.com:443> SSLEngine On ServerName my.example.com SSLCertificateFile /path/my.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/my.key </VirtualHost> I do not have SSLCertificateChainFile or SSLCACertificate file set. The private key starts with ----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY----- The csr starts with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- I have verified that both: openssl rsa -noout -modulus -in my.key openssl req -noout -modulus -in my.csr produce the same output. I cannot figure out how to verify the crt - trying both x509 and rsa produce an error. Should this process have worked? Can I verify that my.crt matches the key somehow?

  • MySQL won't start or won't installed

    Hi there, I'm trying to get a local LAMP setup on my Ubuntu desktop. I'm successfully got PHP install but I'm having trouble with MySQL If PHP tries to connet to MySQL I get this error: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) in /var/www/testing.php on line 3 Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) If I try via command line I get much the same error: owen@desktop:~$ mysql ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (13) Weirdly "/var/run/mysqld" does not exist.   • SQL 2008 Database tuning advisor won’t start

    For some reason I can't get DTA to connect to my development machine. It connects to a remote DB just fine but when I point it to my dev machine I get an error saying: Failed to initialize MSDB database for tuning (exit code: -1073741819). I'm pretty sure it's not a permissions issue since I've used profiler to capture what it's doing and all of the commands it's run so far look fine and are being run under my account which is associated with the sysadmin role, when I run them in sql management studio they go through fine. I'm pretty convinced that the problem is related to creating the objects in MSDB that are used by DTA but I tried creating these manually (I found scripts on the web) and it just seems to push the problem along the line slightly. I'm going out of my mind - have even tried reinstalling SQL but that's not fixed it. I'm using SQL 2008 with SP1 (10.0.2531) on windows server 2008 (patched up to date). SAVE ME!!!!!

  • Launching firefox on remote server causes local firefox to start instead

    Right, this is strange. I am connecting from my laptop (LMDE) to a remote host (SUSE linux enterprise) using ssh -X. I want to launch a firefox instance running on the remote server so I can have access to webpages on a private network. User@RemoteMachine $ which -a firefox /usr/bin/firefox User@RemoteMachine $ /usr/bin/firefox --version Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.2, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2007 mozilla.org User@LocalMachine $ which -a firefox /usr/bin/firefox User@LocalMachine $ /usr/bin/firefox --version Mozilla Firefox 14.0.1 Now, if firefox is not running on the local machine, everything goes as expected and executing firefox on the remote machine causes a firefox (v 2.0) window running on the remote machine to show up. However, if firefox is running on the local machine a second window of firefox 14.0.1 running on the local machine appears. I have checked top in both machines. In the 2nd case, a firefox process briefely appears on the remote machine and then disappears when the local version of firefox is launched. My questions are the following: What gives? How/why can firefox connect to its existing instance on the local machine? The remote machine appears to have access to the local machine. It, in fact, appears to have the right to execute programs on my local machine. Am I missing something or is this just weird? Is this not a security risk?

  • Word 2010 & 2007 Blue Background on screen as default

    Default blue background and white text in Microsoft Word. I have just moved to Word 2010 (Student Version now released) and although it is possible to create individual documents with a blue background it is not possible to set the program with a blue background as a default. I understand this was discontinued with Office 2007. The only way I can open a document with a blue background is to create a Template with a blue background and use that for each document I wish to create. I'm sure there must be a method of hacking the registry to accomplish this. Can you assist. There must be countless people who who they knew how.

  • Laptop Asus P50IJ with Intel 4500M GMA output going to a Dell 1907FP external monitor will not allow

    Hello - I just purchased an Asus P50IJ-X2 laptop which has a Intel GMA 4500M video card running Windows7. At work I output this laptop to a Dell 1907FP LCD which has a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. Not matter what I do the Windows will not allow the laptop to set a resolution higher than 1024x768 to this LCD monitor. Ive even gone to the extent of downloading PowerStrip (I'd post a link but Im new and can only enter 1 url, if you google for powerstrip its the first option) to create a custom driver for my monitor thinking Windows was having a hard time seeing the available resolutions it would accept. However, powerstrip read the registery and properly sees the monitor and what its capable of so Im now at a complete loss as to why Windows7 will not allow me to set/use a 1280x1024 resolution for this external monitor (as my last laptop did running Vista). The Intel documentation (http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-integrated-graphics/) indicates that the GMA 4500M should be able to run up to a 2560x1600 max res. The Dell 1907FP specification states it can run up to a 1280x1024 res. But no matter what the computer will not allow me to set higher than a 1024x768. I'm completely baffled but I would really like to be able to output this laptop to a reasonable resolution, 1024x768 makes me feel like I'm using my mom's computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!   • MacBook Pro 13" Install DVD Wont Start

    Hi, Excuse such a basic question... I am a Laptop Fixer and deal with Windows based laptops only but very recently took in a 13" MacBook Pro for a re-install of the OS (easy I thought!) I inserted the Install DVD, held the C button and turn on. I could hear the disk spinning up and after about a min the DVD is ejected. There are a few scratches on the DVD but should be ok as not that deep. However, Windows Vista was installed (it failed to install properly hence the re-install of Mac OS). Should I wipe clean and format the hard disk first? Could this be the reason the DVD is ejected? Any advice would be gratefully accepted? p.s. never held a MacBook Pro before... first impressions, wow... alu casing and massive touch pad... and the magnetic power socket.... so impressed and it doesn't even work!

  • what service to restart for /var/log/auth.log to start

    Here is a situation since the log files on my server had grown to several Gigabytes I took a backup of directory /var/log and then manually when to each subdirectory of /var/log and the files which were big in size I did cat > /var/log/file_which_is_big press 2 times enter key (basically over wrote those files with a blank space) and then Ctrl+C So basically I over wrote those files to be blank. Now when I open /var/log/auth.log I don't see any entry (which is expected also since I over wrote) but when I exit the SSH session and login again then also I do not see any entry in auth.log is there any way other than rebooting the machine to make sure I keep getting the entries in /var/log/auth.log I am not sure which service writes in this file. This is a Ubuntu 10.04 server.

    Please, forgive me for asking this question. Usually I would try to learn thisngs myself first before bothering others, but my situation is urgent - if I don't act now and don't download all my family pictures from this website, it will be closed in about two weeks from now and I will loose all of them. So, please help me. I have already asked a question about how to download from my website all my pictures automatically here and I was advised to use Wget. But I don't know the very basics as to how to use it. The basics are not explained on that page. In that questioned that I asked I was even given this line: wget -r -A .jpg,.gif,.png but I don't know what I am supposed to do with it in order to get the Wget going and download all the pictures from my website. Please, help me somebody!

What I am doing currently is: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,/n,Desktop\Folder But it redirects me to "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Desktop\Folder" as a subfolder of c:\ How it looks in the explorer: Desktop |->My Documents |->My Computer | |->c:\ | |->Documents and Settings | |-><username> | |->Desktop | |->Folder *Shortcut puts me here* |->Recycle Bin |->Folder *I want to be here* Any ideas?

  • OpenVPN won't start on ubuntu - PID not found

    I am running ubuntu version 12.04 LTS and I have installed OpenVPN on it. After a while of troubleshooting why my client won't connect (I have generated keys and confligured the client), I ran 'service openvpn status' from the command line and received the following error: could not access PID file for VPN 'server' I have rebooted, started and restarted the service, but each time I check the status, I receive the PID error. I'm pretty sure that I can't connect because the service isn't running. Where can I begin troubleshooting this? I don't know what to look for. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    I can not run the Terminal.app after rolling back my system from time machine. Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 It displays the following error. "Your are not authorized to run this application" "The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value" After that I have deleted the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist But the same message is displayed. I have repaired all system rights with the DiskUtility but that did not help.

    I've installed a fresh version of Ubuntu 10.04 64bit, I didn't install bind when choosing what packages should be installed in the Ubuntu installer. I downloaded the auto installer for Plesk 10.1 and installed it successfully. When I logged into the Plesk control panel and tried to change the password, it failed because it couldn't restart bind.   • Start script on network connect

    I am trying to get a GNU/Linux Bash script to run as soon as a network connection is established on my Raspberry Pi. I tried following the instructions on several pages: I have tried adding my script to /etc/network/if-up.d and running sudo chmod ugo+x on the file. I have tried adding the line post-up <path/to/script.sh> to /etc/network/interfaces I am really quite clueless here. More info: The script runs fine when manually run, here it is: http://pastebin.com/UJvt5HYU (I did remove my personal info (email addresses, passwords), but other than that, the script is unchanged. This script also uses the sendEmail program (can be found at http://caspian.dotconf.net/menu/Software/SendEmail/).
