• Google Chrome doesn't respond user actions correctly

  Recently I've changed my OS to Ubuntu 12.04 (Cinnamon, 64 bits) from Mint 13 (KDE, 64 bits) and one same bug still appears on new installation. The Google Chrome it seems that don't refresh (repaint) page based on my interactions. Example: When i'm try comment an Youtube vídeo, when i click on textarea, o cursor don't appear inside of textarea, BUT, when/if i change to another tab and return the cursor appears...OK... If i start write some text...according i'm typing the chars don't appers...again if i change to another tab and return the typed text appears on textarea. Other cases that this bug appears: Modal boxes link...don't show the modal; Forms inside modal boxes don't show typed chars; The common Discus comment plugin don't work when focused; I don't have any idea of reason of this bug. (video driver, window manager, Chrome bug ?, i don't know) Any idea to solve this ? • On Windows XP, Start > Run "My Documents" sometimes doesn't work

  On all of my home computers, I can enter "my documents" into the Start Run prompt and the My Documents folder of the current profile will open up. What's more, I can continue typing subfolders, files, etc. and auto-complete works and it's smart and enjoyable. I can't check at the moment, but I'm almost positive entries like "My Pictures" and "My Music" also go to their correct folders. On my work computers, if I enter "my documents" into the Start Run prompt, I get the following error: "Windows cannot find 'my'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start Button, and then click Search." I can sort of circumvent this by creating a shortcut in my PATH named 'my' that points to My Documents folder, but this doesn't solve the auto-complete option (and it's otherwise imperfect, of course, because "my pictures" or "my music" all direct to the same place. A google search doesn't provide much help on this, although it does identify a poster in 2007 with this same question at another board: http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t124813.html (Login required, but Google cache available here: http://preview.tinyurl.com/ygxhwwl) Is this just a limitation of the networks belonging to a domain, or is there some way I can get this functionality back? • managing a high traffic media sharing website

  i'm in the process of developing a website that i predict will generate a lot of traffic. the site will be similar to many other sites offering free media streaming: mp3's. we are going to start with a pretty minimal amount of media to share, but the basic idea is that artists will set up a profile page with music they have made available for consumers to visit the page and listen to the music. we are starting with just a handful of artists, but i think that this project will generate more and more artist pages. eventually i'd like to set it up so consumers can create personalized playlists. how can i best prepare server space and bandwidth capabilities? i have a small team of web designers and programmers working on the site, as i am pretty illiterate when it comes to site management. as the ring leader of this organization, i am more or less looking for financial requirements and monthly burn rate estimates. i don't have a ton of capitol to start with, putting together a business plan, but i am seeking investments. i have a game plan to grow fast enough to be successful, and slow enough to manage the financial growth requirements. any questions i may have failed to ask myself? is it realistic to start this project on a shared server, and upgrade? any financial advice you think i can use? i really appreciate any advice given, as this is my first business venture. thank you all in advance. • No external src ip in log files (my router ip appears instead)

  I recently retired my workhorse WRT54G router/AP in favor of a Linksys EA2700. Since then, all inbound traffic (bound to an Ubuntu 10.02 box running LAMP)logged to Syslog, Apache's error and access logs, etc. (all behind said router) is getting logged with a src ip of 192.168.1.1, that of the router's internal ip. For example, here is an old entry from apache's access.log: 74.82.68.20 - - [22/Feb/2011:10:14:34 -0600] "GET /assets/css/style.css HTTP/1.1" 304 154 "http://example.com/view.php?event_id=1" "BlackBerry8520/5.0.0.822 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100" And here is one since switching the router: 192.168.1.1 - - [05/Oct/2012:21:29:25 -0500] "GET /somedir/print.css HTTP/1.1" 200 650 "http://example.com/somedir/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0.1"** That first field is the problem. Each and every entry in every log shows an "external" IP of 192.168.1.1, which isn't very helpful. Any ideas? Much thanks from a n00b!

• How can I remotely tell what brand/model internal SCSI card is installed in a machine?

  I am doing some consulting work for a previous employer upgrading and migrating old servers to new hardware. There is an existing file server (HP ProLiant DL380) that has an tape backup drive connected; it is using a SCSI interface and I'm pretty sure it's using an internal SCSI card. They are upgrading to a new server hardware (HP ProLiant DL160 G6). The old server is 2U, the new one 1U and we would want to move the tape drive to the new server, too. I'm trying to figure out if the SCSI card in the old server would be able to be installed in the new one or if we'll need to source a new card; mostly I don't know for sure the height of the card and if it's low-profile enough that it would fit in the new server. There is not much of a technical resource onsite and the old server is in-use anyway so I would like to avoid making a trip in myself or trying to have someone onsite pop open the case and tell me what card is there. It's running Windows Server 2003 - is there a way to tell from say Device Manager what make and model the SCSI card might be? Or any other system diagnostic program or something that would give me hardware info like that? Thanks for any info!

• Cannot log into Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g: ORA-28001

  I can no longer log into Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g. I get this error message: ORA-28001: the password has expired (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin) I could log into the server using SQL*Plus. I warned me that the password was going to expire in 7 days (which is not the same as being already expired). Following advice from several documents, I ran these commands from SQL*Plus: ALTER USER sys IDENTIFIED BY new_password; ALTER USER system IDENTIFIED BY new_password; SQL*Plus no longer warns about passwords, but I still cannot use the Enterprise Manager. Then I followed this to remove password expiration: ALTER PROFILE default LIMIT password_life_time UNLIMITED And I've also restarted the Oracle services. In case it was using cached credentials, I've tried to connect from several browsers in several computers. No way: I still get ORA-28001 in Enterprise Manager. What am I missing? • How do I install a different OS on a Compaq Presario cq56 with preinstalled SuSE 11?

  Thing is, I don't have a clue of Linux systems, I usually use WinXP. Bought a notebook with SuSE 11 on it, because I have my XP licence and thought I could install that if I found the chipset drivers for the hardware (which I'm not completely sure I have the right versions of). Then I thought I'd give it a shot with the SuSE, looked nice enough. But I can't get my external hd to work (tried force mount) and the banshee doesn't do anything like playing video. Since that is one of the two main purposes of this notebook, I need to get that to work. Tried downloading VLC player, but that only works with SuSE 11.1 upwards. So I downloaded a SuSE 11.3 and burned the iso. But surprise, no way the notebook would boot from cd. Same with the XP cd (considered setting up a dual boot). And no, I can't get to BIOS to reset to default, either. So I can basically do nothing else than going online with this thing and that's not enough for me (gamer in withdrawal, yikes!). I need at least to get to my firefox profile on the external hd and be able to watch video. Can somebody please help me? I think at this point I'd prefer to install XP and MAYBE the SuSE 11.3 after that. I'm not a native speaker, so please speak plainly, thanks. :) Edit: if this is impossible, could someone please help me with the external hd mount and video playback? Edit: Found out how to boot from cd by now. But still no XP, because I get bluescreen after bluescreen while setup is loading files. I guess it's the missing SATA drivers...

• How can I set Vim to obey accents of my spoken language?

  When pressing w or e in sentences with accents (written in my native language), such as the first one (marked **) here: **Éj-mélybol fölzengo** - csing-ling-ling - száncsengo. Száncsengo - csing-ling-ling - tél csendjén halkan ring. [1] the characters o, ö, among others [2], make my gVim think they are word-ends so it stops on them (in Normal mode). gVim stops on the positions marked with _ where it shouldn't: Éj-mélyb_ol f_ölzeng_o. I would like to set gVim so it properly handle words even when containing accents and other local characters. But where do I set this? I use it on Win32, vim v 7.3.46. • Strange ASP.NET Queue Performance Counters Behavior?

  We have an ASP.NET 2.0 site running in classic mode. I am seeing very strange behavior in the performance counter values. Perhaps these are bugs (I've been all over Google trying to verify this, without much luck), or perhaps it is just my inexperience with monitoring these things. This PerfMon graph (http://imgur.com/Jv5io5J) represents a load test where I add up to 350 virtual users to the site, at a rate of about 1/sec, performing relatively simple page browsing. At the end of the test, I gradually taper off the number of users. This is a 4 CPU server. Machine.config settings for are at the defaults. The solid blue line is ASP.NET Apps v2.x\Requests Executing for the application in question. The profile makes perfect sense, with a quick ramp-up to 32 executing requests (minWorkerThreads x 4CPUs), followed by a slower ramp-up to 48 ((maxWorkerThreads - minWorkerThreads) x 4CPUs). The solid yellow line is ASP.NET v2.x\Requests Queued. Again, this makes sense: after the initial 32 request threads are activated, the queue begins to build as new thread initialization can't keep pace with incoming requests. But as executing requests reaches its highest possible value of 48, the counter for ASP.NET Apps v2.x\Requests Queued (green solid line) suddenly springs to life and maintains step with the yellow counter. As far as I can tell, and with no other apps running on the server, these two counters should have had the same values from the start. One other odd thing: The counter for ASP.NET v2.x\Request Wait Time (dotted yellow line) also does not spring to life until executing requests reaches 48. Shouldn't I be seeing values here from the moment ASP.NET v2.x\Requests Queued begins to build? And likewise, why would ASP.NET Apps v2.x\Request Execution Time (dotted blue) increase significantly only after that peak of 48 is reached? Shouldn't it ramp-up gradually along with queued requests?

• Ho can I recover from SharePoint configuration errors after promoting the server to a Domain Controller?

  I have a SharePoint 2010 VM setup in VirtualBox and I was using local machine accounts to handle security on the server. While preparing for a demo it came time to have some meaningful users on my VM image. I followed some docs on promoting my server to a Domain Controller in a new forrest. So now I have [MachineName].SPDEMO.CONTOSO.com and I can add users as needed. However, when I try to connect to my SharePoint sites I am getting a white screen with the error: "Cannot connect to the configuration database" I changed the pool identity account of each of my IIS app pools to the new Administrator account and started the services successfully but I can't get the SQL services to start up. When I try to start them I get the following error: Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 17058. In the event log I see the following error: The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service-specific error %%17058. Can I recover from this or should I roll back or just uninstall the Domain Controller role. I'd like to keep the server as a standalone DC so I can do some user profile creation/management but I need the SharePoint bits to work as well.

• Outlook 2007 will not send/receive using RPC over HTTP to an exchange server.. works for other users

  I have an incredibly frustrating user issue that I have been unable to resolve for over a week, any ideas for this would be greatly appreciated. The user is having troubles using Outlook 2007 to send or receive emails over using RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) to an exchange server. Basically what happens, the connection will be establised and the user will be prompted for the username and password, those are submitted and then outlook tries to download emails which fails and the connection to the exchange server will remain unavailable. The machine can ping and everything to the exchange server there is no connection issue there. The setup worked fine for him up untill now and also works for possibly hundreds of other users using the exact same settings, also the same settings will work from the users iphone on the same internet connection, and from my own system using outlook. The exchange server has the webmail https feature and that can be logged into and send and receive emails fine. Steps taken so far: removing the .ost file for the account and allowing office to rebuild it (fixes the issue for a short period of time, then the same symptons occur) deleted exchange profile and recreated (no change in issue) uninstalled all antivirus and firewalls (no change in issue) removed all cached passwords (keymgr.dll) (no change in issue) removed all entries from the hosts file (no change in issue) uninstalled and reinstalled office 2007 (Temporary fix of issue) Installing Symantec Endpoint Client caused a lot of email scan popups to be displayed, after a reboot this stopped and a scan it picked a few trojans that it removed. This fixed the issue temporarily as well, the issue is back again now. I am completely out of ideas now, there seems to be nothing that can be done to fix this issue outside of rebuilding the PC which is a massive pandoras box I don't want to enter with this user. --- Update ---- Malware scans from multiple products have been run on the machine and all updates were installed. The real problem with this user is his distance from us, there is no way to supply a spare laptop or rebuild the machine currently.

• Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server

  I'm using Windows 7 Beta and trying to install a web application locally. This web site uses Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPRESS) and a MDB file in the web site's ~/App_Data folder. I was instructed to configure IIS7 to use Classic .NET AppPool for this web application. Each time the web site loads, I receive the following error: There was an error trying to connect to the Database Server: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed. The Internet is packed with articles written on this subject. The prevailing wisdom seems to be: Configure the SQL Express Service to use the Local System account. Delete the following directory: C:\Users\username\AppData\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS Neither of these fixes have made any impact. I have tinkered with permissions and settings for hours to no avail. Can anyone suggest a fix or help me understand how to get more detailed information about the problem.

• Why is my Network Connections list empty?

  I'm sure this question has been asked before, but none of the links I have found have worked. I've been trying to find fixes for the past couple of weeks. This all started a few days after I got my router. At first, I thought it was just something that would fix it self. But as usual, it never does. I am trying to update my router's wireless card to try and fix this problem, but I need to get the card's information to update it on the HP website. And since my Network Connections list is empty, I can't get any information about it. So to get around this, I tried to go to 'Manage Wireless Networks', and when I tried to get the properties from there, I get this error: Windows has encounter an error saving the wireless profile. Specific Error: The data is invalid. So, what all can I do to try and fix this? Any help will be appreciated. EDIT: Sorry, forgot to put router info. Router Model: WNR1000v2-V2 Router Maker: NETGEAR Router Firmware Version: V1.0.0.12NA The router is up-to-date on all updates.

• How to find out which program a default beep is coming from in Windows 7?

  There's a "default beep" (as defined in System Sounds) that emanates from my computer every so often. It kind of goes like this (where each number is a "default beep" sound): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. So there's a distinct pattern to it. I thought I had this figured out a way to figure out what was happening by going to Control Panel-Ease of Access-Ease of Access Center-Replace sounds with visual cues But that just isn't the case. Whichever window I click on, that one displays the visual queue when this happens. It's driving me crazy, and I can't figure out which program is causing this. Update: it appears to only happen on one user profile on the computer...does that help? Update 2: Discovered that this sound was coming from a utility on my laptop called ASUS NB Probe; I'm certain that it is emanating from this program because the error message displayed by it changes in sync with the sound playing. Apparently the S.M.A.R.T. feature of my hard drive was reporting an issue. It displays the issue for a brief second and then makes it disappear, I'll have to keep watching it to see what it says, but I believe is says something about a read. I have an external hdd connected with eSATA to a container of sorts (BlacX) that you can plug two hdds into. I have one hdd attached and it's a Western Digital WD1001FALS - 00E8B0 Thanks again! Now I'm off to go around the Internet and report on this...since I posted it so many places!

• Windows XP mounting USB drive to same letter as previously mapped network drive

  Why does Windows always mount a USB drive as the next drive letter after the last physical drive, even when that letter is already taken by a mapped drive, and is there any way to improve this behaviour? What happens is I tend to use a few different flash drives on my PC, as well as having both a Blackberry and a personal phone that mount as USB drives when I plug them in to charge. Being on a corporate PC I also have a number of mapped network drives (some set by login script, some set as persistent mappings in my profile). When I first login I'll have drive letters like this: C: - Local Drive D: - DVD Drive G: - Login script mapped drive J: - Login script mapped drive When I plug the Blackberry in it'll mount two drives (one for onboard storage, one for the SD card) as E: and F:. If I then plug in another USB drive it will mount as G:, even though that's already taken by a network mapped drive. This leaves me with the following drives: C: - Local Drive D: - DVD Drive E: - USB drive (Blackberry) F: - USB drive (Blackberry) G: - Login script mapped drive [G: - USB drive - mounted but not visible in Explorer or command prompt] J: - Login script mapped drive I then have to go into Disk Management, find the new USB drive that's mounted to G: and re-assign it to another letter eg Z:, once this is done Auto-Play detects it and throws up its normal dialog, and its browseable in Explorer. While this is OK to do if you only use one or two USB drives and have admin access to your PC with your login account, its a total pain in the proverbial if you regularly use a whole load of different USB devices, and corporate policy means you have one account for your normal login (that only has User access to workstations), but have to use a different account for any privileged action. I realize that one possible reason for this is the difference between hardware which is mounted and assigned drive letters at the systen level, and mapped drives which are done at the user level. For USB devices that are already plugged in before login, then obviously they're mounted before Windows knows what network drives may be mapped. However if you plug the USB devices in after you're fully logged in and have drives mapped then Windows must know which letters are available?

• Is it possible to install ffmpeg and x264 on a Synology Diskstation 209?

  Hi, Complete linux novice here! :) I'm trying to get my brilliant DS209 NAS box to do some transcoding for me of a few AVI videos to a format suitable for my Apply iTouch - yes I could do it with another machine and Handbrake but it would be really useful to offload some of this to the NAS to do overnight. I've managed to install ipkg onto my DS209 NAS box and have played around with installing some packages (binutils, mono, bash etc). I've even managed to install ffmpeg from ipkg and put together the correct command line profile to do the encoding as a .sh file: time ffmpeg -y -i $1 -f mp4 -title $2 -vcodec libx264 -level 21 -s 426×320 -b 512k -bt 512k -bufsize 4M -maxrate 4M -g 250 -coder 0 -threads 0 -acodec libfaac -ac 2 -ab 64k $3 However running this I get a missing dependency on libx264. I've tried building this from the latest source in git, but I get errors during the make process that I just don't understand (way out of my depth). encoder/set.c: In function 'x264_sei_version_write': encoder/set.c:491: error: 'X264_VERSION' undeclared (first use in this function) encoder/set.c:491: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once encoder/set.c:491: error: for each function it appears in.) make: *** [encoder/set.o] Error 1 Can anyone else try building it or give me a pointer as to what I can do to get this going? • Need to Remove Exchange 2003 Server That Crashed During Transition to 2010

  As the title stated, we were running an Exchange 2003 server that we knew was going down soon so we purchased a second server and installed Exchange 2010 into the AD. We managed to move all of the mailboxes off of 2003 and also managed to get the Offline Address Book setup on 2010. At this point the 2003 server bit the dust and will no longer boot. Therefore we were unable to properly uninstall Exchange and remove the last 2003 server so it still exists in AD. As far as the clients are concerned, everything is working properly. However, when I run the Microsoft Exchange Profile Analyzer, I still see the old server and its Administrative Group. I am going to guess that since the old server is showing up in AD, I will not be able to raise Exchange or AD functionality (as the 2003 server was also the only AD DC) levels. I have forced the 2003 DC out of AD so that is no longer an issue. Old Setup: Windows 2003 Server Enterprise & Exchange 2003 Standard New Setup: Windows 2010 Server Enterprise & Exchange 2010 Standard Two Questions: How do you go about manually forcing the 2003 server and its administrative group out of AD? When that is finished, where do you raise the Exchange mode (can't find this for the life of me)?

• Outlook 2007/2010 autodiscovering old Exchange info

  I currently have an Exchange setup as follows: two Exchange 2003 servers clustered together set up as the current mailbox stores, one Exchange 2003 setup as a frontend, one Exchange 2007 set up as a frontend (was set up for testing by my predecessor, never really used intentionally), and now four Exchange 2010 servers - two mailboxes in a DAG and two with Hub/CAS. Everything seems to be working fine with one exception - Outlook 2007/2010 clients are still autodiscovering the test 2007 frontend and not the 2010 CAS array. I know this because there's an expired cert on the 2007 box so the client displays a cert error when you attempt to autocreate the outlook profile. From what I've read, there is an SCP (Service Connection Point) in AD that is pointing to the old server and it is getting returned first, causing Outlook to try it first. How can I prevent Outlook from even attempting to connect to this 2007 box from now on? http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2010/management-administration/exchange-autodiscover.html When Outlook 2007 is installed on a domain joined workstation then the Outlook client will query Active Directory for the Autodiscover information. Active Directory will return a list of SCP’s and the Outlook client will automatically select the first SCP in this list. Using the information found in the SCP the Outlook client will contact the Client Access Server for its configuration information and the Outlook client will be configured automatically.

• VNC server failed to start CentOS

  I followed a tutorial on how to install and get VNCserver to run on CentOS 6 (since freenx isnt supported yet) and I keep getting Starting VNC server: 1:user [FAILED] How do I figure out whats going on here? Im new to Linux/CentOS and im trying to get RDP going so I can step away from SSH as much as possible (you know us Windows users love our pretty GUI's). So, where is the error log at and how do I find it? Or maybe someone else has experienced this and knows the solution based on the simple error given? • Safe place to put an executable file on Windows 7 (and Windows XP)

  I'm working on a tweak to our logon script which will copy an executable file to the local hard drive and then, using the schtasks command, schedule a task to run that executable daily. It's a standalone executable file, and when run it creates a folder in the working directory (which would be the same directory as the executable in this case). In Windows XP, of course, it can be put anywhere - I'd probably just throw it in C:\SomeRandomFolder and let it be. But this logon script also runs on Windows 7 64-bit machines, and those are trickier with UAC and all that. The user is a local administrator but UAC is enabled, so I'm pretty sure that the executable would be blocked from copying to a location like C:\ or C:\Program Files (since those seem to be at least mildly protected by UAC). The scheduled task needs to run under the user's profile, so I can't just run it with SYSTEM and ignore the UAC boundaries; I need to find a path which the user can copy into. Where can I copy this standalone executable file, so that the copy operation succeeds without a UAC prompt on Windows 7, the path is either common to both WinXP and Win7 or uses environment variables, and the scheduled task running with user permissions is able to launch the executable?

• Is it possible to use rsync over sftp (without an ssh shell)?

  Rsync over ssh, works great every time. However, trying to rsync to a host which allows only sftp logins, but not ssh logins, provides the following error: rsync -av /source ssh user@remotehost:/target/ protocol version mismatch -- is your shell clean? (see the rsync man page for an explanation) rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at compat.c(171) [sender=3.0.6] Here's the relevant section from the rsync man page: This message is usually caused by your startup scripts or remote shell facility producing unwanted garbage on the stream that rsync is using for its transport. The way to diagnose this problem is to run your remote shell like this: ssh remotehost /bin/true > out.dat then look at out.dat. If everything is working correctly then out.dat should be a zero length file. If you are getting the above error from rsync then you will probably find that out.dat contains some text or data. Look at the contents and try to work out what is producing it. The most com- mon cause is incorrectly configured shell startup scripts (such as .cshrc or .profile) that contain output statements for non-interactive logins. Trying this on my system produced the following in out.dat: ssh-dummy-shell: Command not allowed. As I thought, the host is not allowing ssh logins. The following link shows that it is possible to accomplish this task using fuse with sshfs - however it is extremely slow, and not fit for production use. Is there any chance of getting rsync sftp to work?

• Why are group policy preference drive mappings not applied to the domain administrator account?

  I have a working policy on my entire domain. I just found out, when logging with the domain administrator, that this policy is not applied (EDIT: Running : gpresult shows that the GPO's are applied - but, this GPO is for Drive Mappings, and the actual drive mappings are NOT shown) The administrator account - does not have any login script on his profile tab. To note: The mappings were applied before the GPO with a login script using the : net use ... command - all was working perfectly and correctly for the domain administrator user as well - That removes sharing and security problem (IMO) My GPO's are mainly small/atomic settings: single GPO to handle each settings: UAC, Firewall, printers. GPO status for the object is enabled That's an overview of the Drive Maps: Reading on MS support site, I checked the delegation tab, and it is marked as applied to domain and enterprise admins. Every user gets these policies correctly. The OU that is set is the root of the domain. (for testing purpose - I did that to eliminate hierarchy issues - did not help) Block Inheritance is disabled. • Virus / Malware: Explorer window with strange user logged into Hotmail

  I was looking into a PC, the user of which had complained that he couldn't connect to the internet and that the PC was experiencing random restarts. The PC runs WinXP SP3. On examination, I found that the Wireless Zero Configuration service was stopped. I enabled that and the internet was back on(The pc connected through wifi). Then I started firefox and browsed to gmail.com. I did not launch any other program, except for a few explorer windows. It was then I noticed a window had popped up(it was not a pop up). It had the explorer folder icon and instead of explorer folder contents, it showed a hotmail page, with a user named "Homer Stinson" logged in. The titlebar was empty and there were no toolbars. I asked the client whether this was his email id, which he said it was not. I opened task manager, which did not show this explorer window in it's Application tab. I switched back to the 'rogue' window and found that the hotmail settings page was now open, which later changed to the hotmail edit profile page for the same user. I was not clicking anything. Then suddenly the window closed. I checked the autorun locations, fired up a Malwarebytes Anti Malware scan which gave a clean result. The system also had an updated installation of AVG. I don't want a solution for this virus(?) problem. I asked this here because I wanted to know if somebody has come across something similar. What kind of malware can this be? The user had not seen a similar window before and I should have taken screenshots. (PS:Homer Stinson is an imaginary name. I searched for the other real name with some relevant keywords but could not come up with a virus/malware discussion post.) UPDATE: When I checked the PC later a DEP error had popped up closing which restarted the PC.

• Is there any way to send Outlook meeting requests from a non-default calendar?

  Hi, We have a user with two Outlook accounts. [email protected] is of type Exchange; [email protected] is of type IMAP/SMTP. Both are actually on our Exchange server; but since an Outlook profile can only have one Exchange account, the second one is set up as IMAP. The user would like to send a meeting request from her xyz.com account, so the "from" address appears as [email protected]. Unfortunately that doesn't work. If she creates the meeting in her xyz.com calendar, the meeting request still goes out through her Exchange account, [email protected]. The meeting request "compose message" window has an Account dropdown below the Send button, but this has no effect. Before she sends the invitation, a warning appears: "Responses to this meeting request will not be tallied because this meeting is not in your main Calendar folder. Is this OK?" Is there any workaround for this? We're using Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003 SP2. Thanks, Richard
