  • .DS_Store valid in Leopard and Snow Leopard

    Scripts to generate a DMG image disk for mac usually copy a .DS_Store file with folder customizations (icons sizes, positions, image background, etc.) You customize a read/write copy of the DMG, then copy the .DS_Store and use it to automate the DMG generation. It seems .DS_Store made in Leopard doesn't work in Snow Leopard and viceversa. A DMG created in Snow Leopard won't show the background image in Leopard. Is there a way to made a .DS_Store file that works in both OSX?

  • Cocoa - Timer object that can be started, suspended, resumed?

    I'm looking for a repeating timer object that allows me to create it once and then suspend and resume it as needed for the lifetime of my application. I've seen documentation for NSTimer and although I think I can make it do what I want by building an abstraction on top of it that creates/invalidates timer objects multiple times, I was curios if there is a better way using some other system timer implementation. I'm not too familiar with Mac development and couldn't find any other leads besides NSTimer.

  • NSTableView handling edititng cells correctly

    Hi All, I have an NSTableView working correctly except when I'm editing one of the table items. If the user is still in edit mode, and it presses the Sheet OK button, the tableiew doesn't update. How do I force the tableview to commit the changes when the user press the ok button (closesheet). Also, how do I handle the ESC Key to cancel the editing? Sorry if the questions looks absurd, but I've been only on developing on Mac for a month.

  • EADDRNOTAVAIL when binding 127.0.0.1 on localhost?

    I'm getting errno==49 (EADDRNOTAVAIL) when trying to UDP-bind() to 127.0.0.1:47346 running Mac OS X on a G5 (big endian PowerPC). Is there something preventing me from doing so? I've tried other addresses and ports (192.168.1.2 and port 47346) but with no success. Here's a gdb printout of my sockaddr_in: $1 = { sin_len = 0 '\0', sin_family = 2 '\002', sin_port = 47346, sin_addr = { s_addr = 3232235778 }, sin_zero = "???\000\000??" }

  • Best beginner programming language?

    I want to learn a simple language so I can code simple things maybe eventually a game but I don't know where to start. I can code simple things using apple script but you can't do that much with that and it only works on macs. I have a mac and a dell so something that I could code and run on both would be nice.     I'm using Netbeans to add a JToolbar to my window which also has a JMenuBar. Here is the design-time look: .. but during run-time I get this: With the toolbar seemingly partially hidden under the menu names. This is on the Mac, btw. Is there something stupid I've forgotten to do or some layout trick I should be using? EDIT: I'll add that the area below the toolbar is a SplitContainer.

  • Can't sign into linkedin when using a QT4 (WebKit-based) browser?

    I started using the lightweight QT4 browser for some of the time on my Mac. Most simple websites, and even quite a few AJAX-heavy web apps, work for me flawlessly, including gmail (!) However, with LinkedIn, I can't even manage to sign in. Even when I change the useragent to one of a regular browser, it keeps kicking me out. Any ideas what could be wrong and for some workaround? Thanks!
