  • grep a rar in cygwin

    Hi, I want to do grep texts files inside a rar without extracting the rar file to disk, I tried a couple of combinations with pipes however it didnt work i tried for example unrar e myrar.rar | grep mysearchedline however it actually opened it to disk, I don't want to open it to disk, I don't have enough space for it to be opened (its real big with real big logs).   • Read/Write versus Create/Read/Update/Delete permissions difference

    From a practical standpoint, is there any real-world difference between Read/Write permissions and Create/Read/Update/Delete permissions? It would seem that if a user had the ability to 'create', he should always have the ability to 'update' or 'delete'? If this is correct, then read/write should always be sufficient, and there is no need to store separate Create/Read/Update/Delete permissions? Are there any real-world use cases in which a user should be given permissions to create but not update, or update but not delete, etc...?

  • When mocking a class with Moq, how can I CallBase for just specific methods?

    I really appreciate Moq's Loose mocking behaviour that returns default values when no expectations are set. It's convenient and saves me code, and it also acts as a safety measure: dependencies won't get unintentionally called during the unit test (as long as they are virtual). However, I'm confused about how to keep these benefits when the method under test happens to be virtual. In this case I do want to call the real code for that one method, while still having the rest of the class loosely mocked. All I have found in my searching is that I could set mock.CallBase = true to ensure that the method gets called. However, that affects the whole class. I don't want to do that because it puts me in a dilemma about all the other properties and methods in the class that hide call dependencies: if CallBase is true then I have to either Setup stubs for all of the properties and methods that hide dependencies -- Even though my test doesn't think it needs to care about those dependencies, or Hope that I don't forget to Setup any stubs (and that no new dependencies get added to the code in the future) -- Risk unit tests hitting a real dependency. Q: With Moq, is there any way to test a virtual method, when I mocked the class to stub just a few dependencies? I.e. Without resorting to CallBase=true and having to stub all of the dependencies? Example code to illustrate (uses MSTest, InternalsVisibleTo DynamicProxyGenAssembly2) In the following example, TestNonVirtualMethod passes, but TestVirtualMethod fails - returns null. public class Foo { public string NonVirtualMethod() { return GetDependencyA(); } public virtual string VirtualMethod() { return GetDependencyA();} internal virtual string GetDependencyA() { return "!   • Scala return type for tuple-functions

    Hello Guys, I want to make a scala function which returns a scala tuple. I can do a function like this: def foo = (1,"hello","world") and this will work fine, but now I want to tell the compiler what I expect to be returned from the function instead of using the built in type inference (after all, I have no idea what a (1,"hello","world") is) I thought I remembered the classname being something like Tuple3[Int,String,String] but that doesnt work for me. Suggestions? :D (ps: I love stack overflow!)

    I need an example of a slow Excel sheet that could exist in the real world. Problem is I'm not sure what sort of functions are computationally difficult. Are there any sort of (maths?) functions that are easy enough to program that they can be used in Excel, yet computationally expensive? Something which has a real world application is a bonus.

  • Best (functional?) programming language to learn coming from Mathematica

    As a mechanical engineering PhD student, I haven't had a great pedigree in programming as part of my “day job”. I started out in Matlab (having written some Hypercard and Applescript back in the day, and being introduced to Ada, of all things, in my 1st undergrad year), learned to program—if you can call it that—in (La)TeX; and finally discovered and fell for Mathematica. Now I'm interested in learning a "real" programming language that I can enjoy in the same sort of style as Mathematica, which tries to stress functional programming since it seems to map more nicely to how certain kinds of mathematics can be written algorithmically. So which functional language should I learn? I guess the obvious answer is “as many as possible”, but let's start out humble and give a single, well-considered option a good crack. I've heard good things about, say, Haskell and Scala, but I wonder if (given my non–computer science background) I'd be better off starting in more “grounded” territory and going with Ruby or Python (the latter having the big advantage of being used for Sage, which I'd also like to investigate…after my PhD). Well, I guess this is pretty subjective, so perhaps I could rephrase: would it be better to start looking at Haskell (say) straight after an ad-hoc education to functional programming in Mathematica, or will I get more out of learning Python (say) first? In reference to the question "what do I want to do with it?", I guess my answer is "fun, and learning more". I've got this list of languages that I'd like to look at, and I don't know how to trim them down. And I'd rather start with something a little higher-level than C simply so that I can be somewhat productive without having to re-invent many wheels for any code I'd like to write.

    I would like a web interface for a user to describe a one-dimensional real-valued function. I'm imagining the user being presented with a blank pair of axes and they can click anywhere to create points that are thick and draggable. Double-clicking a point, let's say, makes it disappear. The actual function should be shown in real time as an interpolation of the user-supplied points.
