  • Building a &ldquo;real&rdquo; extension for Expression Blend

    - by Timmy Kokke
    .Last time I showed you how to get started building extensions for Expression Blend. Lets build a useful extension this time and go a bit deeper into Blend. Source of project  => here Compiled dll => here (extract into /extensions folder of Expression Blend)   The Extension When working on large Xaml files in Blend it’s often hard to find a specific control in the "Objects and Timeline Pane”. An extension that searches the active document and presents all elements that satisfy the query would be helpful. When the user starts typing a search query a search will be performed and the results are shown in the list. After the user selects an item in the results list, the control in the "Objects and Timeline Pane” will be selected. Below is a sketch of what it is going to look like. The Solution Create a new WPF User Control project as shown in the earlier tutorial in the Configuring the extension project section, but name it AdvancedSearch this time. Delete the default UserControl1.Xaml to clear the solution (a new user control will be added later thought, but adding a user control is easier then renaming one). Create the main entry point of the addin by adding a new class to the solution and naming this  AdvancedSearchPackage. Add a reference to Microsoft.Expression.Extensibility and to System.ComponentModel.Composition . Implement the IPackage interface and add the Export attribute from the MEF to the definition. While you’re at it. Add references to Microsoft.Expression.DesignSurface, Microsoft.Expression.FrameWork and Microsoft.Expression.Markup. These will be used later. The Load method from the IPackage interface is going to create a ViewModel to bind to from the UI. Add another class to the solution and name this AdvancedSearchViewModel. This class needs to implement the INotifyPropertyChanged interface to enable notifications to the view.  Add a constructor to the class that takes an IServices interface as a parameter. Create a new instance of the AdvancedSearchViewModel in the load method in the AdvanceSearchPackage class. The AdvancedSearchPackage class should looks like this now:   using System.ComponentModel.Composition; using Microsoft.Expression.Extensibility;   namespace AdvancedSearch { [Export(typeof(IPackage))] public class AdvancedSearchPackage:IPackage {   public void Load(IServices services) { new AdvancedSearchViewModel(services); }   public void Unload() { } } }   Add a new UserControl to the project and name this AdvancedSearchView. The View will be created by the ViewModel, which will pass itself to the constructor of the view. Change the constructor of the View to take a AdvancedSearchViewModel object as a parameter. Add a private field to store the ViewModel and set this field in the constructor. Point the DataContext of the view to the ViewModel. The View will look something like this now:   namespace AdvancedSearch { public partial class AdvancedSearchView:UserControl { private readonly AdvancedSearchViewModel _advancedSearchViewModel;   public AdvancedSearchView(AdvancedSearchViewModel advancedSearchViewModel) { _advancedSearchViewModel = advancedSearchViewModel; InitializeComponent(); this.DataContext = _advancedSearchViewModel; } } }   The View is going to be created in the constructor of the ViewModel and stored in a read only property.   public FrameworkElement View { get; private set; }   public AdvancedSearchViewModel(IServices services) { _services = services; View = new AdvancedSearchView(this); } The last thing the solution needs before we’ll wire things up is a new class, PossibleNode. This class will be used later to store the search results. The solution should look like this now:   Adding UI to the UI The extension should build and run now, although nothing is showing up in Blend yet. To enable the user to perform a search query add a TextBox and a ListBox to the AdvancedSearchView.xaml file. I’ve set the rows of the grid too to make them look a little better. Add the TextChanged event to the TextBox and the SelectionChanged event to the ListBox, we’ll need those later on. <Grid> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="32" /> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBox TextChanged="SearchQueryTextChanged" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="4" Name="SearchQuery" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" /> <ListBox SelectionChanged="SearchResultSelectionChanged" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="4" Name="SearchResult" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Grid.Row="1" /> </Grid>   This will create a user interface like: To make the View show up in Blend it has to be registered with the WindowService. The GetService<T> method is used to get services from Blend, which are your entry points into Blend.When writing extensions you will encounter this method very often. In this case we’re asking for an IWindowService interface. The IWindowService interface serves events for changing windows and themes, is used for adding or removing resources and is used for registering and unregistering Palettes. All panes in Blend are palettes and are registered thru the RegisterPalette method. The first parameter passed to this method is a string containing a unique ID for the palette. This ID can be used to get access to the palette later. The second parameter is the View. The third parameter is a title for the pane. This title is shown when the pane is visible. It is also shown in the window menu of Blend. The last parameter is a KeyBinding. I have chosen Ctrl+Shift+F to call the Advanced Search pane. This value is also shown in the window menu of Blend.   services.GetService<IWindowService>().RegisterPalette( "AdvancedSearch", viewModel.View, "Advanced Search", new KeyBinding { Key = Key.F, Modifiers = ModifierKeys.Control | ModifierKeys.Shift } );   You can compiler and run now. After Blend starts you can hit Ctrl+Shift+F or go the windows menu to call the advanced search extension. Searching for controls The search has to be cleared on every change of the active document. The DocumentServices fires an event every time a new document is opened, a document is closed or another document view is selected. Add the following line to the constructor of the ViewModel to handle the ActiveDocumentChanged event:   _services.GetService<IDocumentService>().ActiveDocumentChanged += ActiveDocumentChanged;   And implement the ActiveDocumentChanged method:   private void ActiveDocumentChanged(object sender, DocumentChangedEventArgs e) { }   To get to the contents of the document we first need to get access to the “Objects and Timeline” pane. This pane is registered in the PaletteRegistry in the same way as this extension has registered itself. The palettes are accessible thru an associative array. All you need to provide is the Identifier of the palette you want. The Id of the “Objects and Timeline” pane is “Designer_TimelinePane”. I’ve included a list of the other default panes at the bottom of this article. Each palette has a Content property which can be cast to the type of the pane.   var timelinePane = (TimelinePane)_services.GetService<IWindowService>() .PaletteRegistry["Designer_TimelinePane"] .Content;   Add a private field to the top of the AdvancedSearchViewModel class to store the active SceneViewModel. The SceneViewModel is needed to set the current selection and to get the little icons for the type of control.   private SceneViewModel _activeSceneViewModel;   When the active SceneViewModel changes, the ActiveSceneViewModel is stored in this field. The list of possible nodes is cleared and an PropertyChanged event is fired for this list to notify the UI to clear the list. This will make the eventhandler look like this: private void ActiveDocumentChanged(object sender, DocumentChangedEventArgs e) { var timelinePane = (TimelinePane)_services.GetService<IWindowService>() .PaletteRegistry["Designer_TimelinePane"].Content;   _activeSceneViewModel = timelinePane.ActiveSceneViewModel; PossibleNodes = new List<PossibleNode>(); InvokePropertyChanged("PossibleNodes"); } The PossibleNode class used to store information about the controls found by the search. It’s a dumb data class with only 3 properties, the name of the control, the SceneNode and a brush used for the little icon. The SceneNode is the base class for every possible object you can create in Blend, like Brushes, Controls, Annotations, ResourceDictionaries and VisualStates. The entire PossibleNode class looks like this:   using System.Windows.Media; using Microsoft.Expression.DesignSurface.ViewModel;   namespace AdvancedSearch { public class PossibleNode { public string Name { get; set; } public SceneNode SceneNode { get; set; } public DrawingBrush IconBrush { get; set; } } }   Add these two methods to the AdvancedSearchViewModel class:   public void Search(string searchText) { } public void SelectElement(PossibleNode node){ }   Both these methods are going to be called from the view. The Search method performs the search and updates the PossibleNodes list.  The controls in the active document can be accessed thru TimeLineItemsManager class. This class contains a read only collection of TimeLineItems. By using a Linq query the possible nodes are selected and placed in the PossibleNodes list.   var timelineItemManager = new TimelineItemManager(_activeSceneViewModel); PossibleNodes = new List<PossibleNode>( (from d in timelineItemManager.ItemList where d.DisplayName.ToLowerInvariant().StartsWith( searchText.ToLowerInvariant()) select new PossibleNode() { IconBrush = d.IconBrush, SceneNode = d.SceneNode, Name = d.DisplayName }).ToList() ); InvokePropertyChanged(InternalConst.PossibleNodes);   The Select method is pretty straight forward. It contains two lines.The first to clear the selection. Otherwise the selected element would be added to the current selection. The second line selects the nodes. It is given a new array with the node to be selected.   _activeSceneViewModel.ClearSelections(); _activeSceneViewModel.SelectNodes(new[] { node.SceneNode });   The last thing that needs to be done is to wire the whole thing to the View. The two event handlers just call the Search and SelectElement methods on the ViewModel.   private void SearchQueryTextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { _advancedSearchViewModel.Search(SearchQuery.Text); }   private void SearchResultSelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e) { if(e.AddedItems.Count>0) { _advancedSearchViewModel.SelectElement(e.AddedItems[0] as PossibleNode); } }   The Listbox has to be bound to the PossibleNodes list and a simple DataTemplate is added to show the selection. The IconWithOverlay control can be found in the Microsoft.Expression.DesignSurface.UserInterface.Timeline.UI namespace in the Microsoft.Expression.DesignSurface assembly. The ListBox should look something like:   <ListBox SelectionChanged="SearchResultSelectionChanged" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="4" Name="SearchResult" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Grid.Row="1" ItemsSource="{Binding PossibleNodes}"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <tlui:IconWithOverlay Margin="2,0,10,0" Width="12" Height="12" SourceBrush="{Binding Path=IconBrush, Mode=OneWay}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Name}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox>   Compile and run. Inside Blend the extension could look something like below. What’s Next When you’ve got the extension running. Try placing breakpoints in the code and see what else is in there. There’s a lot to explore and build extension on. I personally would love an extension to search for resources. Last but not least, you can download the source of project here.  If you have any questions let me know. If you just want to use this extension, you can download the compiled dll here. Just extract the . zip into the /extensions folder of Expression Blend. Notes Target framework I ran into some issues when using the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile as a target framework. I got some strange error saying certain obvious namespaces could not be found, Microsoft.Expression in my case. If you run into something like this, try setting the target framework to .NET Framework 4 instead of the client version.   Identifiers of default panes Identifier Type Title Designer_TimelinePane TimelinePane Objects and Timeline Designer_ToolPane ToolPane Tools Designer_ProjectPane ProjectPane Projects Designer_DataPane DataPane Data Designer_ResourcePane ResourcePane Resources Designer_PropertyInspector PropertyInspector Properties Designer_TriggersPane TriggersPane Triggers Interaction_Skin SkinView States Designer_AssetPane AssetPane Assets Interaction_Parts PartsPane Parts Designer_ResultsPane ResultsPane Results

  • Some OBI EE Tricks and Tips in the Admin Tool By Gerry Langton

    - by hamsun
    How to set the log level from a Session variable Initialization block As we know it is normal to set the log level non-zero for a particular user when we wish to debug problems. However sometimes it is inconvenient to go into each user’s properties in the Admin tool and update the log level. So I am showing a method which allows the log level to be set for all users via a session initialization block. This is particularly useful for anyone wanting an alternative way to set the log level. The screen shots shown are using the OBIEE 11g SampleApp demo but are applicable to any environment. Open the appropriate rpd in on-line mode and navigate to Manage Variables. Select Session Initialization Blocks, right click in the white space and create a New Initialization Block. I called the Initialization block Set_Loglevel . Now click on ‘Edit Data Source’ to enter the SQL. Chose the ‘Use OBI EE Server’ option for the SQL. This means that the SQL provided must use tables which have been defined in the Physical layer of the RPD, and whilst there is no need to provide a connection pool you must work in On-Line mode. The SQL can access any of the RPD tables and is purely used to return a value of 2. The ‘Test’ button confirms that the SQL is valid. Next, click on the ‘Edit Data Target’ button to add the LOGLEVEL variable to the initialization block. Check the ‘Enable any user to set the value’ option so that this will work for any user. Click OK and the following message will display as LOGLEVEL is a system session variable: Click ‘Yes’. Click ‘OK’ to save the Initialization block. Then check in the On-LIne changes. To test that LOGLEVEL has been set, log in to OBIEE using an administrative login (e.g. weblogic) and reload server metadata, either from the Analysis editor or from Administration > Reload Files and Metadata link. Run a query then navigate to Administration > Manage Sessions and click ‘View Log’ for the query just issued (which should be approximately the last in the list). A log file should exist and with LOGLEVEL set to 2 should include both logical and physical sql. If more diagnostic information is required then set LOGLEVEL to a higher value. If logging is required only for a particular analysis then an alternative method can be used directly from the Analysis editor. Edit the analysis for which debugging is required and click on the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the Advanced SQL clauses section and enter the following in the Prefix box: SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL = 2; Click the ‘Apply SQL’ button. The SET VARIABLE statement will now prefix the Analysis’s logical SQL. So that any time this analysis is run it will produce a log. • Guest blog: A Closer Look at Oracle Price Analytics by Will Hutchinson

    - by Takin Babaei
    Overview:  Price Analytics helps companies understand how much of each sale goes into discounts, special terms, and allowances. This visibility lets sales management see the panoply of discounts and start seeing whether each discount drives desired behavior. In Price Analytics monitors parts of the quote-to-order process, tracking quotes, including the whole price waterfall and seeing which result in orders. The “price waterfall” shows all discounts between list price and “pocket price”. Pocket price is the final price the vendor puts in its pocket after all discounts are taken. The value proposition: Based on benchmarks from leading consultancies and companies I have talked to, where they have studied the effects of discounting and started enforcing what many of them call “discount discipline”, they find they can increase the pocket price by 0.8-3%. Yes, in today’s zero or negative inflation environment, one can, through better monitoring of discounts, collect what amounts to a price rise of a few percent. We are not talking about selling more product, merely about collecting a higher pocket price without decreasing quantities sold. Higher prices fall straight to the bottom line. The best reference I have ever found for understanding this phenomenon comes from an article from the September-October 1992 issue of Harvard Business Review called “Managing Price, Gaining Profit” by Michael Marn and Robert Rosiello of McKinsey & Co. They describe the outsized impact price management has on bottom line performance compared to selling more product or cutting variable or fixed costs. Price Analytics manages what Marn and Rosiello call “transaction pricing”, namely the prices of a given transaction, as opposed to what is on the price list or pricing according to the value received. They make the point that if the vendor does not manage the price waterfall, customers will, to the vendor’s detriment. It also discusses its findings that in companies it studied, there was no correlation between discount levels and any indication of customer value. I urge you to read this article. What Price Analytics does: Price analytics looks at quotes the company issues and tracks them until either the quote is accepted or rejected or it expires. There are prebuilt adapters for EBS and Siebel as well as a universal adapter. The target audience includes pricing analysts, product managers, sales managers, and VP’s of sales, marketing, finance, and sales operations. It tracks how effective discounts have been, the win rate on quotes, how well pricing policies have been followed, customer and product profitability, and customer performance against commitments. It has the concept of price waterfall, the deal lifecycle, and price segmentation built into the product. These help product and sales managers understand their pricing and its effectiveness on driving revenue and profit. They also help understand how terms are adhered to during negotiations. They also help people understand what segments exist and how well they are adhered to. To help your company increase its profits and revenues, I urge you to look at this product. • MVC2 EditorTemplate for DropDownList

    - by tschreck
    I've spent the majority of the past week knee deep in the new templating functionality baked into MVC2. I had a hard time trying to get a DropDownList template working. The biggest problem I've been working to solve is how to get the source data for the drop down list to the template. I saw a lot of examples where you can put the source data in the ViewData dictionary (ViewData["DropDownSourceValuesKey"]) then retrieve them in the template itself (var sourceValues = ViewData["DropDownSourceValuesKey"];) This works, but I did not like having a silly string as the lynch pin for making this work. Below is an approach I've come up with and wanted to get opinions on this approach: here are my design goals: The view model should contain the source data for the drop down list Limit Silly Strings Not use ViewData dictionary Controller is responsible for filling the property with the source data for the drop down list Here's my View Model: public class CustomerViewModel { [ScaffoldColumn(false)] public String CustomerCode{ get; set; } [UIHint("DropDownList")] [DropDownList(DropDownListTargetProperty = "CustomerCode"] [DisplayName("Customer Code")] public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> CustomerCodeList { get; set; } public String FirstName { get; set; } public String LastName { get; set; } public String PhoneNumber { get; set; } public String Address1 { get; set; } public String Address2 { get; set; } public String City { get; set; } public String State { get; set; } public String Zip { get; set; } } My View Model has a CustomerCode property which is a value that the user selects from a list of values. I have a CustomerCodeList property that is a list of possible CustomerCode values and is the source for a drop down list. I've created a DropDownList attribute with a DropDownListTargetProperty. DropDownListTargetProperty points to the property which will be populated based on the user selection from the generated drop down (in this case, the CustomerCode property). Notice that the CustomerCode property has [ScaffoldColumn(false)] which forces the generator to skip the field in the generated output. My DropDownList.ascx file will generate a dropdown list form element with the source data from the CustomerCodeList property. The generated dropdown list will use the value of the DropDownListTargetProperty from the DropDownList attribute as the Id and the Name attributes of the Select form element. So the generated code will look like this: <select id="CustomerCode" name="CustomerCode"> <option>... </select> This works out great because when the form is submitted, MVC will populate the target property with the selected value from the drop down list because the name of the generated dropdown list IS the target property. I kinda visualize it as the CustomerCodeList property is an extension of sorts of the CustomerCode property. I've coupled the source data to the property. Here's my code for the controller: public ActionResult Create() { //retrieve CustomerCodes from a datasource of your choosing List<CustomerCode> customerCodeList = modelService.GetCustomerCodeList(); CustomerViewModel viewModel= new CustomerViewModel(); viewModel.CustomerCodeList = customerCodeList.Select(s => new SelectListItem() { Text = s.CustomerCode, Value = s.CustomerCode, Selected = (s.CustomerCode == viewModel.CustomerCode) }).AsEnumerable(); return View(viewModel); } Here's my code for the DropDownListAttribute: namespace AutoForm.Attributes { public class DropDownListAttribute : Attribute { public String DropDownListTargetProperty { get; set; } } } Here's my code for the template (DropDownList.ascx): <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<IEnumerable<SelectListItem>>" %> <%@ Import Namespace="AutoForm.Attributes"%> <script runat="server"> DropDownListAttribute GetDropDownListAttribute() { var dropDownListAttribute = new DropDownListAttribute(); if (ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues.ContainsKey("DropDownListAttribute")) { dropDownListAttribute = (DropDownListAttribute)ViewData.ModelMetadata.AdditionalValues["DropDownListAttribute"]; } return dropDownListAttribute; } </script> <% DropDownListAttribute attribute = GetDropDownListAttribute();%> <select id="<%= attribute.DropDownListTargetProperty %>" name="<%= attribute.DropDownListTargetProperty %>"> <% foreach(SelectListItem item in ViewData.Model) {%> <% if (item.Selected == true) {%> <option value="<%= item.Value %>" selected="true"><%= item.Text %></option> <% } %> <% else {%> <option value="<%= item.Value %>"><%= item.Text %></option> <% } %> <% } %> </select> I tried using the Html.DropDownList helper, but it would not allow me to change the Id and Name attributes of the generated Select element. NOTE: you have to override the CreateMetadata method of the DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider for the DropDownListAttribute. Here's the code for that: public class MetadataProvider : DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider { protected override ModelMetadata CreateMetadata(IEnumerable<Attribute> attributes, Type containerType, Func<object> modelAccessor, Type modelType, string propertyName) { var metadata = base.CreateMetadata(attributes, containerType, modelAccessor, modelType, propertyName); var additionalValues = attributes.OfType<DropDownListAttribute>().FirstOrDefault(); if (additionalValues != null) { metadata.AdditionalValues.Add("DropDownListAttribute", additionalValues); } return metadata; } } Then you have to make a call to the new MetadataProvider in Application_Start of Global.asax.cs: protected void Application_Start() { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); ModelMetadataProviders.Current = new MetadataProvider(); } Well, I hope this makes sense and I hope this approach may save you some time. I'd like some feedback on this approach please. Is there a better approach?

  • Html.DropDownListFor() doesn't always render selected value

    - by Andrey
    I have a view model: public class LanguagesViewModel { public IEnumerable<LanguageItem> Languages { get; set; } public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> LanguageItems { get; set; } public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> LanguageLevelItems { get; set; } } public class LanguageItem { public int LanguageId { get; set; } public int SpeakingSkillId { get; set; } public int WritingSkillId { get; set; } public int UnderstandingSkillId { get; set; } public LanguagesViewModel Lvm { get; internal set; } } It's rendered with the following code: <tbody> <% foreach( var language in Model.Languages ) { Html.RenderPartial("LanguageItem", language); } %> </tbody> LanguageItem.ascx: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<HrmCV.Web.ViewModels.LanguageItem>" %> <tr id="lngRow"> <td class="a_left"> <%: Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.LanguageId, Model.Lvm.LanguageItems, null, new { @class = "span-3" }) %> </td> <td> <%: Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.SpeakingSkillId, Model.Lvm.LanguageLevelItems, null, new { @class = "span-3" }) %> </td> <td> <%: Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.WritingSkillId, Model.Lvm.LanguageLevelItems, null, new { @class = "span-3" })%> </td> <td> <%: Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.UnderstandingSkillId, Model.Lvm.LanguageLevelItems, null, new { @class = "span-3" })%> </td> <td> <div class="btn-primary"> <a class="btn-primary-l" onclick="DeleteLanguage(this.id)" id="btnDel" href="javascript:void(0)"><%:ViewResources.SharedStrings.BtnDelete%></a> <span class="btn-primary-r"></span> </div> </td> </tr> The problem is that upon POST, LanguageId dropdown doesn't render its previously selected value. While all other dropdowns - do render. I cannot see any differences in the implementation between them. What is the reason for such behavior?

  • Json.Net Issues: StackOverflowException is thrown when serialising circular dependent ISerializable object with ReferenceLoopHandling.Ignore

    - by keyr
    I have a legacy application that used binary serialisation to persist the data. Now we wanted to use Json.net 4.5 to serialise the data without much changes to the existing classes. Things were working nice till we hit a circular dependent class. Is there any workaround to solve this problem? Sample code as shown below [Serializable] class Department : ISerializable { public Employee Manager { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public Department() { } public Department( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { Manager = ( Employee )info.GetValue( "Manager", typeof( Employee ) ); Name = ( string )info.GetValue( "Name", typeof( string ) ); } public void GetObjectData( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { info.AddValue( "Manager", Manager ); info.AddValue( "Name", Name ); } } [Serializable] class Employee : ISerializable { [NonSerialized] //This does not work [XmlIgnore]//This does not work private Department mDepartment; public Department Department { get { return mDepartment; } set { mDepartment = value; } } public string Name { get; set; } public Employee() { } public Employee( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { Department = ( Department )info.GetValue( "Department", typeof( Department ) ); Name = ( string )info.GetValue( "Name", typeof( string ) ); } public void GetObjectData( SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context ) { info.AddValue( "Department", Department ); info.AddValue( "Name", Name ); } } And the test code Department department = new Department(); department.Name = "Dept1"; Employee emp1 = new Employee { Name = "Emp1", Department = department }; department.Manager = emp1; Employee emp2 = new Employee() { Name = "Emp2", Department = department }; IList<Employee> employees = new List<Employee>(); employees.Add( emp1 ); employees.Add( emp2 ); var memoryStream = new MemoryStream(); var formatter = new BinaryFormatter(); formatter.Serialize( memoryStream, employees ); memoryStream.Seek( 0, SeekOrigin.Begin ); IList<Employee> deserialisedEmployees = formatter.Deserialize( memoryStream ) as IList<Employee>; //Works nicely JsonSerializerSettings jsonSS= new JsonSerializerSettings(); jsonSS.TypeNameHandling = TypeNameHandling.Objects; jsonSS.TypeNameAssemblyFormat = FormatterAssemblyStyle.Full; jsonSS.Formatting = Formatting.Indented; jsonSS.ReferenceLoopHandling = ReferenceLoopHandling.Ignore; //This is not working!! //jsonSS.ReferenceLoopHandling = ReferenceLoopHandling.Serialize; //This is also not working!! jsonSS.PreserveReferencesHandling = PreserveReferencesHandling.All; string jsonAll = JsonConvert.SerializeObject( employees, jsonSS ); //Throws stackoverflow exception Edit1: The issue has been reported to Json (http://json.codeplex.com/workitem/23668)

  • struts2-json-plugin not retrieving json data from action class for Struts-JQuery-Plugin grid

    - by thebravedave
    Hello, Im having an issue getting json working with the struts-jquery-plugin-2.1.0 I have included the struts2-json-plugin-2.1.8.1 in my classpath as well. Im sure that I have my struts-jquery-plugin configured correctly because the grid loads, but doesnt load the data its supposed to get from the action class that has been json'ized. The documentation with the json plugin and the struts-jquery plugin leaves ALOT of gaps that I cant even find with examples/tutorials, so I come to the community at stackoverflow. My action class has a property called gridModel thats a List with a basic POJO called Customer. Customer is a pojo with one property, id. I have a factory that supplies the populated List to the actions List property which i mentioned called gridModel. Heres how i set up my struts.xml file: <constant name="struts.devMode" value="true"/> <constant name="struts.objectFactory" value="guice"/> <package name="org.webhop.ywdc" namespace="/" extends="struts-default,json-default"> <result-types> <result-type name="json" class="com.googlecode.jsonplugin.JSONResult"> </result-type> </result-types> <action name="login" class="org.webhop.ywdc.LoginAction" > <result type="json"></result> <result name="success" type="dispatcher">/pages/uiTags/Success.jsp</result> <result name="error" type="redirect">/pages/uiTags/Login.jsp</result> <interceptor-ref name="cookie"> <param name="cookiesName">JSESSIONID</param> </interceptor-ref> </action> <action name="logout" class="org.webhop.ywdc.LogoutAction" > <result name="success" type="redirect">/pages/uiTags/Login.jsp</result> </action> </package> In the struts.xml file i set the and in my action i listed in the action configuration. Heres my jsp page that the action loads: <%@ taglib prefix="s" uri="/struts-tags" % <%@ taglib prefix="sj" uri="/struts-jquery-tags"% <%@ taglib prefix="sjg" uri="/struts-jquery-grid-tags"% <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html" import="java.util.*"% Welcome, you have logged in! <s:url id="remoteurl" action="login"/> <sjg:grid id="gridtable" caption="Customer Examples" dataType="json" href="%{remoteurl}" pager="false" gridModel="gridModel" > <sjg:gridColumn name="id" key="true" index="id" title="ID" formatter="integer" sortable="false"/> </sjg:grid> Welcome, you have logged in. <br /> <b>Session Time: </b><%=new Date(session.getLastAccessedTime())%> <h2>Password:<s:property value="password"/></h2> <h2>userId:<s:property value="userId"/></h2> <br /> <a href="<%= request.getContextPath() %>/logout.action">Logout</a><br /><br /> ID: <s:property value="id"/> session id: <s:property value="JSESSIONID"/> </body> Im not really sure how to tell what json the json plugin is creating from the action class. If i did know how i could tell if it wasnt formed properly. As far as I know if I specificy in my action configuration in struts.xml, that the grid, which is set to read json and knows to look for "gridModel" will then automatically load the json to the grid, but its not. Heres my action class: public class LoginAction extends ActionSupport { public String JSESSIONID; public int id; private String userId; private String password; public Members member; public List<Customer> gridModel; public String execute() { Cookie cookie = new Cookie("ywdcsid", password); cookie.setMaxAge(3600); HttpServletResponse response = ServletActionContext.getResponse(); response.addCookie(cookie); HttpServletRequest request = ServletActionContext.getRequest(); Cookie[] ckey = request.getCookies(); for(Cookie c: ckey) { System.out.println(c.getName() + "/cookie_name + " + c.getValue() + "/cookie_value"); } Map requestParameters = ActionContext.getContext().getParameters();//getParameters(); String[] testString = (String[])requestParameters.get("password"); String passwordString = testString[0]; String[] usernameArray = (String[])requestParameters.get("userId"); String usernameString = usernameArray[0]; Injector injector = Guice.createInjector(new GuiceModule()); HibernateConnection connection = injector.getInstance(HibernateConnection.class); AuthenticationServices currentService = injector.getInstance(AuthenticationServices.class); currentService.setConnection(connection); currentService.setInjector(injector); member = currentService.getMemberByUsernamePassword(usernameString, passwordString); userId = member.getUsername(); password = member.getPassword(); CustomerFactory customerFactory = new CustomerFactory(); gridModel = customerFactory.getCustomers(); if(member == null) { return ERROR; } else { id = member.getId(); Map session = ActionContext.getContext().getSession(); session.put(usernameString, member); return SUCCESS; } } public String logout() throws Exception { Map session = ActionContext.getContext().getSession(); session.remove("logged-in"); return SUCCESS; } public List<Customer> getGridModel() { return gridModel; } public void setGridModel(List<Customer> gridModel) { this.gridModel = gridModel; } public String getPassword() { return password; } public void setPassword(String password) { this.password = password; } public String getUserId() { return userId; } public void setUserId(String userId) { this.userId = userId; } public String getJSESSIONID() { return JSESSIONID; } public void setJSESSIONID(String jsessionid) { JSESSIONID = jsessionid; } } Please help me with this problem. • Asp.net MVC2 Custom jquery validation: client -side

    - by Lullaby
    Hi. I want to create a validation rule for 2 date-pickers (startDate less then endDate). I create a validation attribute: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Class, AllowMultiple = true, Inherited = true)] public sealed class DateCompareAttribute : ValidationAttribute { private const string _defaultErrorMessage = "'{0}' is less then '{1}'."; public DateCompareAttribute(string startDateProperty, string endDateProperty) : base(_defaultErrorMessage) { StartDateProperty = startDateProperty; EndDateProperty = endDateProperty; } public string StartDateProperty { get; private set; } public string EndDateProperty { get; private set; } public override string FormatErrorMessage(string name) { return String.Format(CultureInfo.CurrentUICulture, ErrorMessageString, StartDateProperty, EndDateProperty); } public override bool IsValid(object value) { PropertyDescriptorCollection properties = TypeDescriptor.GetProperties(value); object startValue = properties.Find(StartDateProperty, true).GetValue(value); object endValue = properties.Find(EndDateProperty, true).GetValue(value); if (startValue.GetType() == typeof(DateTime?) && endValue.GetType() == typeof(DateTime?)) { var start = ((DateTime?)startValue); var end = ((DateTime?)endValue); return (start.Value < end.Value); } return false; } } and added ti to my Dto: [DateCompare("StartDate", "EndDate")] public class QualificationInput{...} I created a validator: public class DateCompareValidator : DataAnnotationsModelValidator { string startField; private string endField; string _message; public DateCompareValidator(ModelMetadata metadata, ControllerContext context , DateCompareAttribute attribute) : base(metadata, context, attribute) { startField = attribute.StartDateProperty; endField = attribute.EndDateProperty; _message = attribute.ErrorMessage; } public override IEnumerable<ModelClientValidationRule> GetClientValidationRules() { var rule = new ModelClientValidationRule { ErrorMessage = _message, ValidationType = "dateCompare" }; rule.ValidationParameters.Add("startField", startField); rule.ValidationParameters.Add("endField", endField); return new[] { rule }; } } And registered it in Global.asax.cs in Application_Start(): DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider .RegisterAdapter(typeof(DateCompareAttribute), typeof(DateCompareValidator)); In MicrosoftMvcJQueryValidation.js I have made this changes: switch (thisRule.ValidationType) { ..... case "dateCompare": __MVC_ApplyValidator_DateCompare(rulesObj, thisRule.ValidationParameters["startField"], thisRule.ValidationParameters["endField"]); break; ..... } .... function __MVC_ApplyValidator_DateCompare(object, startField, endField) { object["startField"] = startField; object["endField"] = endField; } jQuery.validator.addMethod("dateCompare", function(value, element, params) { if ($('#' + params["startField"]).val() < $('#' + params["endField"]).val()) { return true; } return false; }, jQuery.format("Error")); But it doesn't work :( no client side validation on this type of rule (the others type like required works fine) What I'm doing wrong?

I'm sure there's a good reason for this. Problem is, I just don't get it. Thanks!

  • SQLiteOpenHelper.getWriteableDatabase() null pointer exception on Android

    - by Drew Dara-Abrams
    I've had fine luck using SQLite with straight, direct SQL in Android, but this is the first time I'm wrapping a DB in a ContentProvider. • Nhibernate: One-To-Many mapping problem - Cannot cascade delete without inverse. Set NULL error

    - by KnaveT
    Hi, I have the current scenario whereby an Article has only 1 Outcome each. Each Article may or may not have an Outcome. In theory, this is a one-to-one mapping, but since NHibernate does not really support one-to-one, I used a One-To-Many to substitute. My Primary Key on the child table is actually the ArticleID (FK). So I have the following setup: Classes public class Article { public virtual Int32 ID { get;set;} private ICollection<ArticleOutcome> _Outcomes {get;set;} public virtual ArticleOutcome Outcome { get { if( this._Outcomes !=null && this._Outcomes.Count > 0 ) return this._Outcomes.First(); return null; } set { if( value == null ) { if( this._Outcomes !=null && this._Outcomes.Count > 0 ) this._Outcomes.Clear(); } else { if( this._Outcomes == null ) this._Outcomes = new HashSet<ArticleOutcome>(); else if ( this._Outcomes.Count >= 1 ) this._Outcomes.Clear(); this._Outcomes.Add( value ); } } } } public class ArticleOutcome { public virtual Int32 ID { get;set; } public virtual Article ParentArticle { get;set;} } Mappings public class ArticleMap : ClassMap<Article> { public ArticleMap() { this.Id( x=> x.ID ).GeneratedBy.Identity(); this.HasMany<ArticleOutcome>( Reveal.Property<Article>("_Outcomes") ) .AsSet().KeyColumn("ArticleID") .Cascade.AllDeleteOrphan() //Cascade.All() doesn't work too. .LazyLoad() .Fetch.Select(); } } public class ArticleOutcomeMap : ClassMap<ArticleOutcome> { public ArticleOutcomeMap(){ this.Id( x=> x.ID, "ArticleID").GeneratedBy.Foreign("ParentArticle"); this.HasOne( x=> x.ParentArticle ).Constrained (); //This do not work also. //this.References( x=> x.ParentArticle, "ArticleID" ).Not.Nullable(); } } Now my problem is this: It works when I do an insert/update of the Outcome. e.g. var article = new Article(); article.Outcome = new ArticleOutcome { xxx = "something" }; session.Save( article ); However, I encounter SQL errors when attempting to delete via the Article itself. var article = session.Get( 123 ); session.Delete( article ); //throws SQL error. The error is something to the like of Cannot insert NULL into ArticleID in ArticleOutcome table. The deletion works if I place Inverse() to the Article's HasMany() mapping, but insertion will fail. Does anyone have a solution for this? Or do I really have to add a surrogate key to the ArticleOutcome table?

  • Math.max and Math.min outputting highest and lowest values allowed

    - by user1696162
    so I'm trying to make a program that will output the sum, average, and smallest and largest values. I have everything basically figured out except the smallest and largest values are outputting 2147483647 and -2147483647, which I believe are the absolute smallest and largest values that Java will compute. Anyway, I want to compute the numbers that a user enters, so this obviously isn't correct. Here is my class. I assume something is going wrong in the addValue method. public class DataSet { private int sum; private int count; private int largest; private int smallest; private double average; public DataSet() { sum = 0; count = 0; largest = Integer.MAX_VALUE; smallest = Integer.MIN_VALUE; average = 0; } public void addValue(int x) { count++; sum = sum + x; largest = Math.max(x, largest); smallest = Math.min(x, smallest); } public int getSum() { return sum; } public double getAverage() { average = sum / count; return average; } public int getCount() { return count; } public int getLargest() { return largest; } public int getSmallest() { return smallest; } } And here is my tester class for this project: public class DataSetTester { public static void main(String[] arg) { DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ds.addValue(13); ds.addValue(-2); ds.addValue(3); ds.addValue(0); System.out.println("Count: " + ds.getCount()); System.out.println("Sum: " + ds.getSum()); System.out.println("Average: " + ds.getAverage()); System.out.println("Smallest: " + ds.getSmallest()); System.out.println("Largest: " + ds.getLargest()); } } Everything outputs correctly (count, sum, average) except the smallest and largest numbers. If anyone could point me in the right direction of what I'm doing wrong, that would be great. Thanks.

  • Retrieve EF4 POCOs using WCF REST services starter kit

    - by muruge
    I am using WCF REST service (GET method) to retrieve my EF4 POCOs. The service seem to work just fine. When I query the uri in my browser I get the results as expected. In my client application I am trying to use WCF REST Starter Kit's HTTPExtension method - ReadAsDataContract() to convert the result back into my POCO. This works fine when the POCO's navigation property is a single object of related POCO. The problem is when the navigation property is a collection of related POCOs. The ReadAsDataContract() method throws an exception with message "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Below are my POCOs. [DataContract(Namespace = "", Name = "Trip")] public class Trip { [DataMember(Order = 1)] public virtual int TripID { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 2)] public virtual int RegionID { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 3)] public virtual System.DateTime BookingDate { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 4)] public virtual Region Region { // removed for brevity } } [DataContract(Namespace = "", Name = "Region")] public class Region { [DataMember(Order = 1)] public virtual int RegionID { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 2)] public virtual string RegionCode { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 3)] public virtual FixupCollection<Trip> Trips { // removed for brevity } } [CollectionDataContract(Namespace = "", Name = "{0}s", ItemName = "{0}")] [Serializable] public class FixupCollection<T> : ObservableCollection<T> { protected override void ClearItems() { new List<T>(this).ForEach(t => Remove(t)); } protected override void InsertItem(int index, T item) { if (!this.Contains(item)) { base.InsertItem(index, item); } } } And this is how I am trying retrieve a Region POCO. static void GetRegion() { string uri = "http://localhost:8080/TripService/Regions?id=1"; HttpClient client = new HttpClient(uri); using (HttpResponseMessage response = client.Get(uri)) { Region region; response.EnsureStatusIsSuccessful(); try { region = response.Content.ReadAsDataContract<Region>(); // this line throws exception because Region returns a collection of related trips Console.WriteLine(region.RegionName); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } } } Would appreciate any pointers.

  • Reflect.Emit Dynamic Type Memory Blowup

    - by Firestrand
    Using C# 3.5 I am trying to generate dynamic types at runtime using reflection emit. I used the Dynamic Query Library sample from Microsoft to create a class generator. Everything works, my problem is that 100 generated types inflate the memory usage by approximately 25MB. This is a completely unacceptable memory profile as eventually I want to support having several hundred thousand types generated in memory. Memory profiling shows that the memory is apparently being held by various System.Reflection.Emit types and methods though I can't figure out why. I haven't found others talking about this problem so I am hoping someone in this community either knows what I am doing wrong or if this is expected behavior. Contrived Example below: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; using System.Reflection; using System.Reflection.Emit; namespace SmallRelfectExample { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { int typeCount = 100; j++) { dpl.Add(new DynamicProperty("Key" + rand.Next().ToString(), typeof(String))); } SlimClassFactory scf = new SlimClassFactory(); dynType = scf.CreateDynamicClass(dpl.ToArray(), i); //Optionally do something with the type here } Console.WriteLine("SmallRelfectExample: {0} Types generated.", typeCount); • ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException with custom Android Adapter for multiple views in ListView

    - by Dan Watling
    I am attempting to create a custom Adapter for my ListView since each item in the list can have a different view (a link, toggle, or radio group), but when I try to run the Activity that uses the ListView I receive an error and the app stops. The application is targeted for the Android 1.6 platform. The code: public class MenuListAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private static final String LOG_KEY = MenuListAdapter.class.getSimpleName(); protected List<MenuItem> list; protected Context ctx; protected LayoutInflater inflater; public MenuListAdapter(Context context, List<MenuItem> objects) { this.list = objects; this.ctx = context; this.inflater = (LayoutInflater)this.ctx.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); } @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { Log.i(LOG_KEY, "Position: " + position + "; convertView = " + convertView + "; parent=" + parent); MenuItem item = list.get(position); Log.i(LOG_KEY, "Item=" + item ); if (convertView == null) { convertView = this.inflater.inflate(item.getLayout(), null); } return convertView; } @Override public boolean areAllItemsEnabled() { return false; } @Override public boolean isEnabled(int position) { return true; } @Override public int getCount() { return this.list.size(); } @Override public MenuItem getItem(int position) { return this.list.get(position); } @Override public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } @Override public int getItemViewType(int position) { Log.i(LOG_KEY, "getItemViewType: " + this.list.get(position).getLayout()); return this.list.get(position).getLayout(); } @Override public int getViewTypeCount() { Log.i(LOG_KEY, "getViewTypeCount: " + this.list.size()); return this.list.size(); } } The error I receive: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException at android.widget.AbsListView$RecycleBin.addScrapView(AbsListView.java:3523) at android.widget.ListView.measureHeightOfChildren(ListView.java:1158) at android.widget.ListView.onMeasure(ListView.java:1060) at android.view.View.measure(View.java:7703) I do know that the application is returning from getView and everything seems in order. Any ideas on what could be causing this would be appreciated. Thanks, -Dan

    If I have the following model; public List<RecommendedProduct> recommendations Then public class RecommendedProduct public List<Product> Products Then the Product; public class Product public string Code The recommendations list has, as an example, 10 items in it. Each recommendations item has two Products in it. How, with LINQ, can I find the recommendations object that has products with both "A" and "B" product codes?

  • Java: why is declaration not sufficient in interface?

    - by HH
    Big class contains Format-interfcase and Format-class. The Format-class contains the methods and the interface has the values of the fields. I could have the fields in the class Format but the goal is with Interface. So do I just create dummy-vars to get the errors away, design issue or something ELSE? KEY: Declaration VS Initialisation Explain by the terms, why you have to init in interface. What is the logic behind it? To which kind of problems it leads the use of interface? Sample Code having the init-interface-problem import java.util.*; import java.io.*; public class FormatBig { private static class Format implements Format { private static long getSize(File f){return f.length();} private static long getTime(File f){return f.lastModified();} private static boolean isFile(File f){if(f.isFile()){return true;}} private static boolean isBinary(File f){return Match.isBinary(f);} private static char getType(File f){return Match.getTypes(f);} private static String getPath(File f){return getNoErrPath(f);} //Java API: isHidden, --- SYSTEM DEPENDED: toURI, toURL Format(File f) { // PUZZLE 0: would Stack<Object> be easier? size=getSize(f); time=getTime(f); isfile=isFile(f); isBinary=isBinary(f); type=getType(f); path=getPath(f); //PUZZLE 1: how can simplify the assignment? values.push(size); values.push(time); values.push(isfile); values.push(isBinary); values.push(type); values.push(path); } } public static String getNoErrPath(File f) { try{return f.getCanonicalPath(); }catch(Exception e){e.printStackTrace();} } public static final interface Format { //ERR: IT REQUIRES "=" public long size; public long time; public boolean isFile=true; //ERROR goes away if I initialise wit DUMMY public boolean isBinary; public char type; public String path; Stack<Object> values=new Stack<Object>(); } public static void main(String[] args) { Format fm=new Format(new File(".")); for(Object o:values){System.out.println(o);} } }

  • How to represent different entities that have identical behavior?

    - by Dominik
    I have several different entities in my domain model (animal species, let's say), which have a few properties each. The entities are readonly (they do not change state during the application lifetime) and they have identical behavior (the differ only by the values of properties). How to implement such entities in code? Unsuccessful attempts: Enums I tried an enum like this: enum Animals { Frog, Duck, Otter, Fish } And other pieces of code would switch on the enum. However, this leads to ugly switching code, scattering the logic around and problems with comboboxes. There's no pretty way to list all possible Animals. Serialization works great though. Subclasses I also thought about where each animal type is a subclass of a common base abstract class. The implementation of Swim() is the same for all Animals, though, so it makes little sense and serializability is a big issue now. Since we represent an animal type (species, if you will), there should be one instance of the subclass per application, which is hard and weird to maintain when we use serialization. public abstract class AnimalBase { string Name { get; set; } // user-readable double Weight { get; set; } Habitat Habitat { get; set; } public void Swim(); { /* swim implementation; the same for all animals but depends uses the value of Weight */ } } public class Otter: AnimalBase{ public Otter() { Name = "Otter"; Weight = 10; Habitat = "North America"; } } // ... and so on Just plain awful. Static fields This blog post gave me and idea for a solution where each option is a statically defined field inside the type, like this: public class Animal { public static readonly Animal Otter = new Animal { Name="Otter", Weight = 10, Habitat = "North America"} // the rest of the animals... public string Name { get; set; } // user-readable public double Weight { get; set; } public Habitat Habitat { get; set; } public void Swim(); } That would be great: you can use it like enums (AnimalType = Animal.Otter), you can easily add a static list of all defined animals, you have a sensible place where to implement Swim(). Immutability can be achieved by making property setters protected. There is a major problem, though: it breaks serializability. A serialized Animal would have to save all its properties and upon deserialization it would create a new instance of Animal, which is something I'd like to avoid. Is there an easy way to make the third attempt work? Any more suggestions for implementing such a model?

  • Problems using HibernateTemplate: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.hibernate.SessionFactory.openSession()Lorg/hibernate/classic/Session;

    - by user2104160
    I am quite new in Spring world and I am going crazy trying to integrate Hibernate in Spring application using HibernateTemplate abstract support class I have the following class to persist on database table: package org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring.entity; import javax.persistence.Entity; import javax.persistence.GeneratedValue; import javax.persistence.GenerationType; import javax.persistence.Id; import javax.persistence.Table; @Entity @Table(name="person") public class Person { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.AUTO) private int pid; private String firstname; private String lastname; public int getPid() { return pid; } public void setPid(int pid) { this.pid = pid; } public String getFirstname() { return firstname; } public void setFirstname(String firstname) { this.firstname = firstname; } public String getLastname() { return lastname; } public void setLastname(String lastname) { this.lastname = lastname; } } Next to it I have create an interface named PersonDAO in wich I only define my CRUD method. So I have implement this interface by a class named PersonDAOImpl that also extend the Spring abstract class HibernateTemplate: package org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring.dao; import java.util.List; import org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring.entity.Person; import org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.support.HibernateDaoSupport; public class PersonDAOImpl extends HibernateDaoSupport implements PersonDAO{ public void addPerson(Person p) { getHibernateTemplate().saveOrUpdate(p); } public Person getById(int id) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } public List<Person> getPersonsList() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } public void delete(int id) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } public void update(Person person) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } } (at the moment I am trying to implement only the addPerson() method) Then I have create a main class to test the operation of insert a new object into the database table: package org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring; import org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring.dao.PersonDAO; import org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring.entity.Person; import org.springframework.context.ApplicationContext; import org.springframework.context.support.ClassPathXmlApplicationContext; public class MainApp { public static void main(String[] args) { ApplicationContext context = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("Beans.xml"); System.out.println("Contesto recuperato: " + context); Person persona1 = new Person(); persona1.setFirstname("Pippo"); persona1.setLastname("Blabla"); System.out.println("Creato persona1: " + persona1); PersonDAO dao = (PersonDAO) context.getBean("personDAOImpl"); System.out.println("Creato dao object: " + dao); dao.addPerson(persona1); System.out.println("persona1 salvata nel database"); } } As you can see the PersonDAOImpl class extends HibernateTemplate so I think that it have to contain the operation of setting of the sessionFactory... The problem is that when I try to run this MainApp class I obtain the following exception: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.hibernate.SessionFactory.openSession()Lorg/hibernate/classic/Session; at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.SessionFactoryUtils.doGetSession(SessionFactoryUtils.java:323) at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.SessionFactoryUtils.getSession(SessionFactoryUtils.java:235) at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.HibernateTemplate.getSession(HibernateTemplate.java:457) at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.HibernateTemplate.doExecute(HibernateTemplate.java:392) at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.HibernateTemplate.executeWithNativeSession(HibernateTemplate.java:374) at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.HibernateTemplate.saveOrUpdate(HibernateTemplate.java:737) at org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring.dao.PersonDAOImpl.addPerson(PersonDAOImpl.java:12) at org.andrea.myexample.HibernateOnSpring.MainApp.main(MainApp.java:26) Why I have this problem? how can I solve it? To be complete I also insert my pom.xml containing my dependencies list: <project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/maven-4.0.0.xsd"> <modelVersion>4.0.0</modelVersion> <groupId>org.andrea.myexample</groupId> <artifactId>HibernateOnSpring</artifactId> <version>0.0.1-SNAPSHOT</version> <packaging>jar</packaging> <name>HibernateOnSpring</name> <url>http://maven.apache.org</url> <properties> <project.build.sourceEncoding>UTF-8</project.build.sourceEncoding> </properties> <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>junit</groupId> <artifactId>junit</artifactId> <version>3.8.1</version> <scope>test</scope> </dependency> <!-- Dipendenze di Spring Framework --> <dependency> <groupId>org.springframework</groupId> <artifactId>spring-core</artifactId> <version>3.2.1.RELEASE</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>org.springframework</groupId> <artifactId>spring-beans</artifactId> <version>3.2.1.RELEASE</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>org.springframework</groupId> <artifactId>spring-context</artifactId> <version>3.2.1.RELEASE</version> </dependency> <dependency> <groupId>org.springframework</groupId> <artifactId>spring-context-support</artifactId> <version>3.2.1.RELEASE</version> </dependency> <dependency> <!-- Usata da Hibernate 4 per LocalSessionFactoryBean --> <groupId>org.springframework</groupId> <artifactId>spring-orm</artifactId> <version>3.2.0.RELEASE</version> </dependency> <!-- Dipendenze per AOP --> <dependency> <groupId>cglib</groupId> <artifactId>cglib</artifactId> <version>2.2.2</version> </dependency> <!-- Dipendenze per Persistence Managment --> <dependency> <!-- Apache BasicDataSource --> <groupId>commons-dbcp</groupId> <artifactId>commons-dbcp</artifactId> <version>1.4</version> </dependency> <dependency> <!-- MySQL database driver --> <groupId>mysql</groupId> <artifactId>mysql-connector-java</artifactId> <version>5.1.23</version> </dependency> <dependency> <!-- Hibernate --> <groupId>org.hibernate</groupId> <artifactId>hibernate-core</artifactId> <version>4.1.9.Final</version> </dependency> </dependencies> </project>

  • NHibernate criteria query question

    - by Chris
    I have 3 related objects (Entry, GamePlay, Prize) and I'm trying to find the best way to query them for what I need using NHibernate. When a request comes in, I need to query the Entries table for a matching entry and, if found, get a) the latest game play along with the first game play that has a prize attached. Prize is a child of GamePlay and each Entry object has a GamePlays property (IList). Currently, I'm working on a method that pulls the matching Entry and eagerly loads all game plays and associated prizes, but it seems wasteful to load all game plays just to find the latest one and any that contain a prize. Right now, my query looks like this: var entry = session.CreateCriteria<Entry>() .Add(Restrictions.Eq("Phone", phone)) .AddOrder(Order.Desc("Created")) .SetFetchMode("GamePlays", FetchMode.Join) .SetMaxResults(1).UniqueResult<Entry>(); Two problems with this: It loads all game plays up front. With 365 days of data, this could easily balloon to 300k of data per query. It doesn't eagerly load the Prize child property for each game. Therefore, my code that loops through the GamePlays list looking for a non-null Prize must make a call to load each Prize property I check. I'm not an nhibernate expert, but I know there has to be a better way to do this. Ideally, I'd like to do the following (pseudocode): entry = findEntry(phoneNumber) lastPlay = getLatestGamePlay(Entry) firstWinningPlay = getFirstWinningGamePlay(Entry) The end result of course is that I have the entry details, the latest game play, and the first winning game play. The catch is that I want to do this in as few database calls as possible, otherwise I'd just execute 3 separate queries. The object definitions look like: public class Entry { public Guid Id {get;set;} public string Phone {get;set;} public IList<GamePlay> GamePlays {get;set;} // ... other properties } public class GamePlay { public Guid Id {get;set;} public Entry Entry {get;set;} public Prize Prize {get;set;} // ... other properties } public class Prize { public Guid Id {get;set;} // ... other properties } The proper NHibernate mappings are in place, so I just need help figuring out how to set up the criteria query (not looking for HQL, don't use it).

  • WCF web service Data Members defaulting to null

    - by James
    I am new to WCF and created a simple REST service to accept an order object (series of strings from XML file), insert that data into a database, and then return an order object that contains the results. To test the service I created a small web project and send over a stream created from an xml doc. The problem is that even though all of the items in the xml doc get placed into the stream, the service is nullifying some of them when it receives the data. For example lineItemId will have a value but shipment status will show null. I step through the xml creation and verify that all the values are being sent. However, if I clear the datamembers and change the names around, it can work. Any help would be appreciated. This is the interface code [ServiceContract] public interface IShipping { [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", UriTemplate = "/Orders/UpdateOrderStatus/", BodyStyle=WebMessageBodyStyle.Bare)] ReturnOrder UpdateOrderStatus(Order order); } [DataContract] public class Order { [DataMember] public string lineItemId { get; set; } [DataMember] public string shipmentStatus { get; set; } [DataMember] public string trackingNumber { get; set; } [DataMember] public string shipmentDate { get; set; } [DataMember] public string delvryMethod { get; set; } [DataMember] public string shipmentCarrier { get; set; } } [DataContract] public class ReturnOrder { [DataMember(Name = "Result")] public string Result { get; set; } } This is what I'm using to send over an Order object: string lineId = txtLineItem.Text.Trim(); string status = txtDeliveryStatus.Text.Trim(); string TrackingNumber = "1x22-z4r32"; string theMethod = "Ground"; string carrier = "UPS"; string ShipmentDate = "04/27/2010"; XNamespace nsOrders = "http://tempuri.org/order"; XElement myDoc = new XElement(nsOrders + "Order", new XElement(nsOrders + "lineItemId", lineId), new XElement(nsOrders + "shipmentStatus", status), new XElement(nsOrders + "trackingNumber", TrackingNumber), new XElement(nsOrders + "delvryMethod", theMethod), new XElement(nsOrders + "shipmentCarrier", carrier), new XElement(nsOrders + "shipmentDate", ShipmentDate) ); HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://localhost:3587/Deposco.svc/wms/Orders/UpdateOrderStatus/"); request.Method = "POST"; request.ContentType = "application/xml"; try { request.ContentLength = myDoc.ToString().Length; StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(request.GetRequestStream()); sw.Write(myDoc); sw.Close(); using (HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse()) { StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()); string responseString = reader.ReadToEnd(); XDocument.Parse(responseString).Save(@"c:\DeposcoSvcWCF.xml"); } } catch (WebException wEx) { Stream errorStream = ((HttpWebResponse)wEx.Response).GetResponseStream(); string errorMsg = new StreamReader(errorStream).ReadToEnd(); }
