• If cookie found, get data, else create cookie, is this good logic?

  I have an Action that basically adds an item to a cart, the only way the cart is known is by checking the cookie, here is the flow of logic, please let me know if you see any issue... /order/add/[id] is called via GET action checks for cookie, if no cookie found, it makes a new cart, writes the identifier to the cookie, and adds the item to the database with a relation to the cart created if cookie is found, it gets the cart identifier from the cookie, gets the cart object, adds the item to the database with a relation to the cart found so it's basically like... action add(int id){ if(cookie is there) cart = getcart(cookievalue) else cart = makecart() createcookie(cart.id) additemtocart(cart.id, id) return "success"; } Seem right? I can't really thing of another way that would make sense.

• Core Data: Detecting the type and casting it

  I have set up a Core Data model that includes an entity, Item with a 1-M relationship with the abstract entity Place, so that an item has many places. There are several entities with the parent set to Place. I want to set up several UI elements depending on the descendent place types. I have a loop that looks something like this: for (Place *place in item.places) { } ... but I'm not sure how to detect what type the place is, and how to cast it to the proper type so that I can access its properties. • Creating CFArray from MySQL Result Array

  Is there an easy way to dump an array returned from mysql_fetch_row into a CFArray? (part of the PHP implementation of CFPropertyList) I'm bummed by the lack of documentation on CFPropertyList for PHP. Iterating through each item in the array seems inefficient. I'm open to using a different mysql_fetch_... command. I'd like to just say: $NewArray = new CFArray( $ResultArray ) But that deosn't seem to work.   How can I get all items from a specific calendar (for a specific date). Lets say for instance that I have a calendar with a recurring item every Monday evening. When I request all items like this: CalendarItems = CalendarFolder.Items; CalendarItems.IncludeRecurrences = true; I only get 1 item... Is there an easy way to get all items (main item + derived items) from a calendar? In my specific situation it can be possible to set a date limit but it would be cool just to get all items (my recurring items are time limited themselves). I'm using the Microsoft Outlook 12 Object library (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook).

  As the jQuery API is currently down, is anyone able to assist me with the below? • Amazon SimpleDB - Is there a way to list all Attributes in a Domain?

  Hi, I'm using C# and the AWSSDK library form Amazon to test a few things in SimpleDB. All going well so far. However, I am trying to come up with a neat way of retrieving all Attributes that are applicable to a Domain. This is proving to be tricky without having to retrieve an Item, and obviously I can get the list of attributes then. But what if I have 100,000 Items in a Domain. Let's say the first 70,000 Items in a "Person" Domain have: FirstName, LastName, Address And then I hit a Item that has FirstName, LastName, Address, Phone And then I hit another Item around the 80,000 mark which has: FirstName, LastName, Email, Phone In the above example, for the Person Domain, how would I get a list that contains: FirstName, LastName, Address, Email, Phone ...without performing a ridiculous number of select statements? • Are function arguments stored in a closure?

  I was reading this great article about closures here and the example below outputs 'item3 undefined' three times. I understand why it outputs 'item3' three times as the functions inside buildList() all use the same single closure but why can't it access the 'list' argument? Why is it undefined?   I'm trying to transfer the contents of one list to another, but it's not working and I don't know why not. My code looks like this: list1 = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] list2 = [] for item in list1: list2.append(item) list1.remove(item) But if I run it my output looks like this: >>> list1 [2, 4, 6] >>> list2 [1, 3, 5] My question is threefold, I guess: Why is this happening, how do I make it work, and am I overlooking an incredibly simple solution like a 'move' statement or something?

In my views I define several actions like this: @actions = { :interest => {'Show interest', link_to(..), :disabled => true}, :follow => {'Follow this case', link_to(..)} ... } As these hashes grow, the maintainability decreases. I want to convert the above format to something like: actions do item :interest, 'Show interest', link_to(..), :disabled => true item :follow, 'Follow', link_to(..) ... end How do I structure my helper methods to allow this? Preferably the 'item'-method should only be available in the 'actions' block and not in the global scope. Thanks!

I need to get the list of the changes on "status" column: the status, the date and the previous status on a specified item (It would be good as well getting the status and date when status was changed). I want this to happen using javascript and ajax like effect. I know how to access the dropdownlist inside gridview using javascript and I can get the new selectd item. But how can I save it to database without server side code? I know one way of doing this is using web services. I just want to know if there is/are any other ways to do it.

• c++: at what point should I start using "new char[N]" vs a static buffer "char[Nmax]"

  My question is with regard to C++ Suppose I write a function to return a list of items to the caller. Each item has 2 logical fields: 1) an int ID, and 2) some data whose size may vary, let's say from 4 bytes up to 16Kbytes. So my question is whether to use a data structure like: struct item { int field1; char field2[MAX_LEN]; OR, rather, to allocate field2 from the heap, and require the caller to destroy when he's done: struct item{ int field1; char *field2; // new char[N] -- destroy[] when done! Since the max size of field #2 is large, is makes sense that this would be allocated from the heap, right? So once I know the size N, I call field2 = new char[N], and populate it. Now, is this horribly inefficient? Is it worse in cases where N is always small, i.e. suppose I have 10000 items that have N=4?

  I am working on an MVC 5 App that pulls data from Dynamics CRM 5. The Data I am getting back is an IQueryable of type Account (The CRM Entity class auto generated by CrmSvcUtil). I am retrieving all of the items and can loop through them with code like this: @foreach (var item in Model.ToList()) { <tr> <td> @item.AccountId </td> <td> @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Name) </td> </tr> } The problem is, I would like to instead put them in a drop down list. I can't figure out what the syntax is to put these in a DropDown is. Any suggestions?

• Setting a form field's valule during validation

  Hi, I read about this issue already, but I'm having trouble understanding why I can't change the value of a form's field during validation. I have a form where a user can enter a decimal value. This value has to be higher than the initial value of the item the user is changing. During clean(), the value that was entered is checked against the item's previous value. I would like to be able to re-set the form field's value to the item's initial value when a user enters a lower value. Is this possible from within the clean() method, or am I forced to do this in the view? Somehow, it doesn't feel right to do this in the view... (To make matters more complicated, the form's fields are built up dynamically, meaning I have to override the form's clean() method instead of using the clean_() method). Thanks in advance!

• MySQL: Return grouped fields where the group is not empty, efficiently

  In one statement I'm trying to group rows of one table by joining to another table. I want to only get grouped rows where their grouped result is not empty. Ex. Items and Categories SELECT Category.id FROM Item, Category WHERE Category.id = Item.categoryId GROUP BY Category.id HAVING COUNT(Item.id) > 0 The above query gives me the results that I want but this is slow, since it has to count all the rows grouped by Category.id. What's a more effecient way? I was trying to do a Group By LIMIT to only retrieve one row per group. But my attempts failed horribly. Any idea how I can do this? Thanks
