  If I have 3 domains, domain1.com, domain2.com, and domain3.com, is it possible to set up a default virtual host to domains not listed? • window.scrollBy only works in Firefox !? [closed]

  In my website I have this javascript code, adding a vertical offset when in the url a specific section of the page is specified (#): if (!!window.location.hash) window.scrollBy(0,-60); However this only works in Firefox... I'm pretty sure window.location.hash works in all browsers, that is, the symbol "sharp" is correctly detected in the url.   I am supposed to go to an interview to a bank for just supporting managers in projects. It's a part-time job and the thing is that bank uses Excel for everything. Modifications of tables of really lot of data... What can I expect to find in the test of Excel? I have some books that are around 1000 pages thick but I don't have time and also don't feel like reading everything that's in them. • Multilingual sites and Google search results, do subfolders really work?

  About three months ago we added an English version of our, previously Japanese only, site http://www.clubberia.com under the subfolder http://www.clubberia.com/en/ we've tried to follow the sometimes incomplete best practices laid out by Google by adding alternate tags to all pages that are currently translated. The top page for instance has the following meta tags for language. <link rel="canonical" href="/"> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="ja" href="/"> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="/en/"> While the English main page under /en/ has <link rel="canonical" href="/en/"> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="ja" href="/"> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="/en/"> We also have these alternate languages setup in the sitemap. (as per Google's recommendations) http://www.clubberia.com/sitemap.xml It seems however that Google absolutely refuses to show the English top page in results when the user is using English at google.com if you search for "clubberia" you'll, as of this post, get the Japanese description and a title that Google has apparently invented instead of the title and description in the meta-tags for the /en/ index page. Does anyone have any experience with subfolders actually working to affect search results? Am I being too impatient, or possibly doing something incorrect? Should we just give up on subfolders and push to subdomains (not the prettiest option)?

  My team and I are getting pretty far along in the development of our latest game and have been thinking about audio. We decided to host an audio submission contest where we will offer a little cash and some equity stake in the game as prizes. We are also giving away copies of the game to participants. We hope not only to find audio for our game, but to meet some cool sound artists and promote the game a bit through the process. First of all, is this even a good idea? What are some potential dangers in doing this? Will it even be well received among artists? Secondly, I wrote up some Terms and Conditions in my best legal-speak to try to protect us and clarify how the contest will be run. Are these sufficient to make sure everyone involved is treated fairly and is legally protected? They are as follows: All submissions (The Submission) must be licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-3.0) By applying a CC-BY-3.0 license, you (The Submitter) expressly give Detour Games (and all members wherein) permission to copy, distribute, transmit, modify, adapt, and make commercial use of The Submission. The Submitter must own all rights to The Submission and be within their rights to license it as specified and submit it. The Submitter claims responsibility for the legality of The Submission. If The Submission is found to infringe on the rights of a person or entity other than those of The Submitter, Detour Games will not be held liable as all responsibility and liability for the legality of The Submission is that of The Submitter's. • htaccess and htpasswd trouble

  This is the first time that I have ever tried working with .htpasswd and .htaccess files, so please point out my childish works. I have my apache document root set to /www/ on my debian server. Inside it, there's a folder named Logs/ which I want to restrict access using a htpasswd. I created my htpasswd file using the shell's htpasswd command. And this is the result: > user:<encoded password here> > hjp:<encoded password here> > hjpotter92:<encoded password here> I put this file named .htaccess inside /www/. The Logs/ has following htaccess file in it: > AuthName "Restricted Area" > AuthType Basic > AuthUserFile /www/.htpasswd > AuthGroupFile /dev/null > require valid-user This was again created using an online tool(I forgot its name/link, and can't search the browser-history now). The problem, as it might've already struck you is that I am experiencing no change on my Logs folder access. The folder is still accessible to everyone. I am running apache as root user(if that matters/helps). Please help/guide me. I've tried reading some htaccess guides and have followed some of older SO questions, but still haven't figured out a way to restrict access to Logs folder with a password.

  I try to block sites in squid based on this article. Assuming you would want to block access to Yahoo (e.g http://www.yahoo.co.jp, http://www.yahoo.com, http://www.yahoo.co.in), you would ideally want to block all of the above URLs, if I use a regular expression and try to search something called yahoo it seems to get blocked. We are just interested in applying rules which would be most commonly used across all companies (e.g. social networking sites like facebook, orkut), porn sites (e.g. sex), gaming sites (games), movie & song download sites, and sites where they can upload data (e.g. rapidshare) What would be the common set of effective rules in achieving the above?

• .htaccess causes 403 error

  I have a working website on a free shared server. I decided to hire a dedicated server and purchase a domain for my website. I started uploading the files but things aren't working the way they should. First of all .htaccess is not working, however I set AllowOverride from None to All in /etc/apache2/sites-available/default DocumentRoot /var/www <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> I restarted the server of course. I enabled mod_rewrite: a2enmod rewrite and restarted the server. This change causes a 403 forbidden access error which I am unable to work out. If I change the All back to None then .htaccess is ignored so instead of loading the website the file hierarchy is loaded (the main page is index4.php which should be opened by .htaccess). If I rename index4.php to index.php the website loads, just fyi. The permissions on the file is 600. If I change it to 444 I get 500 Internal Server Error. I checked the logs and I see many errors of this: Permission denied: file permissions deny server access: /var/www/index.html

• Wordpress 3 multi-site install

  Hello, Trying to figure out if this is possible... My company has a cms product that was written in Java and we decided to use Wordpress to run blogs for our clients. Obviously, Wordpress does not run on tomcat(at least not by default) so we installed Pound(http://www.apsis.ch/pound/) on our server and have setup any Apache and Tomcat on different ports. When "/blog/" is requested, the request is directed to Apache. This works fine but we would like to use Wordpress multi site so that we can manage all the blogs from a single interface. We would also like the url for every site to be "/blog/" example: http://www.site1.com/blog/ http://www.site2.com/blog/ I'm thinking it would have to be done with apache??? Is it even possible?   could anyone help me on my problem, my /var/plone folder's ownership was accidentally changed. can anyone tell me who the owner of this folder? could it be www:root or www-data:root or root:root? btw i changed it to www:root and some images and styles cannot be loaded on my site. Everytime somebody opens the site, it keeps loading and loading and after a few minutes it stops and some images are not loaded and style are not well displayed as it is supposed to be. thanks

  I have setup a virtual host which specifies a default file to load when the URL is called. The problem I have is that I need that default DirectoryIndex file to appear in the URL. So when I go to: www.mysite.co.uk, I want www.mysite.co.uk/app.php to appear in the URL. How can I achieve this using my virtual host configuration within my apache.conf file? • Cat all files in a directory, with a specific file at the beginning an end...?

  Is there a way to cat all files in a given directory, but with a particular file at the beginning and end? For example, say I have: file1.js, file2.js, file3.js, file4.js, file5.js -- Effectively I would like to cat file2.js file*.js file3.js > /var/www/output.js I've tried a few variations of these find ! -name "file2.js" ! -name "file3.js" -type f -exec cat file2.js {} file3.js > /var/www/js/output.js \; find ! -name "file2.js" ! -name "file3.js" -type f | xargs -I files cat file2.js files file3.js > /var/www/output.js but the best I can get out of it is file2.js added before and file3.js added after all other files (multiple times) I know I could specify the files in the order I wanted manually, but this is not maintainable (I'm expecting, potentially 100 files). I have looked through man cat, as well as a handful of websites devoted to xargs, find and cat to no avail. Thanks in advance.

• HTTPS and HTTP issue on server with SSL

  I have a site www.example.com for which i purchased SSL cert and installed. And it was working fine, I also have a subdomain with app.example.com which was not on SSL. Both www.example.com and app.example.com are on same IP address. At later we decided to put SSL only on app.frostbox.com and then i configured SSL with app.frostbox.com and it worked fine, Now the issue is that Google is indexing my site as https://www.example.com/ and when users hits the web , Invalid security warning is issued and when user allow security issue they are shown my app.example.com contents. Note: I have my SSL configuration files in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf The contents of the ssl.conf are below. NOTE: I tried solutions in .httaccess but none of those worked.   With htaccess I'm trying to make my sites urls clean. I use very basic urls like: www.mysite.com/pagename.php ("pagename" is variable). • Redirecting Subdomain with Volusion and GoDaddy

  I need to create a subdomain (reviews.basequipment.com) and have it re-direct to our Reviews page at http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies. The genius's at Volusion have never gotten this to work correctly and I have been asking them for years now (yes years). Our nameservers are on Volusion and we are hosted through GoDaddy. Volusion tells me to use their "CPanel" to update DNS Records to this: reviews | CNAME | www.resellerratings.com This doesn't even work when going to reviews.basequipment.com and of course does not do the full job as I want to go to http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies So I have then tried doing a Forward Subdomain in GoDaddy. Added subdomain "reviews" and forward to the link I mentioned above, with no avail (im assuming because my nameservers reside on Volusion). Has anyone had experience doing this, or does anyone know of any suggestions? Volusion is pretty limited with this and as I've said, I have been trying this for years and I've finally decided to consult the community here at stackflow. Thanks in advance.

• Scp only a specific folder

  Some command line syntax I don't know how to set, am a noob sometimes, sorry is that's obvious Let's says I have the following path for all my assets : /var/www/site/system/images/{image_id}/{format}/{file}.{extension} Inside the {image_id} folder, I have multiple formats (original, medium, thumb, etc...). I only want to import the /var/www/site/system/images/{image_id}/original folder, and keep the structure locally scp -r username@server:/var/www/site/system/images/*/original ~/Site/site/system/images This one does get it all, but all the files end up in the same and unique folder, no structure. I'd like to keep the structure. Is there something to do for it ?

• Apache trailing slash added to files problem

  Hello! I am having a problem with Apache. What it does is this: Take /index.php file containing an code with src set to relative path myimg.jpg, both in the root of my server. So, www.mysite.com would show the image as would www.mysite.com/index.php. However, if I access www.mysite.com/index.php/ (with a trailing slash) it does the odd thing of executing index.php code as it would be inside an index.php folder (e.g. /index.php/index.php), thus not showing the image anymore. This is a simple example that's easy to solve with absolte addressing etc, the problem I am getting from this a security one that's not so easily fixed. So, how can I get Apache to give a 403 or 404 when files are accessed "as folders"? Thank you.

• Default documentroot apache does not work

  I have apache version 2.2 and php 5.3.15 on a single server. I configured virtual hosting and a default vhost. 0_default_.conf - goes to /var/www/default sub.domain.com.conf - goes to /var/www/sub.domain.com My question is, how could I set the default documentroot to sub.domain.com permanently? That means all request should be redirected to sub.domain.com. I try to remove 0_default_.conf but when viewing the page it display the php source code of sub.domain.com. Here is my configurations -- http://pastebin.com/4e3awUJ4 Although I can create index.php to /var/www/default and permanently redirect to sub.domain.com site but it's not viable solution for me because what if I didn't point the ip address of sub.domain.com to the server so user cannot view that subdomain. • group write permission ignored in ubuntu

  Its probably my stupidy here but i'm stuck on this and would appreciate the help. I want my user to have full access to the local apache root folder, and i also want the apache to have full access to the same folder. What i did was create a new group called DevGroup and i added my username and www-data there. also i changed the permissions to 770 to allow full group access but now it wont allow me or the apache any kind of access to the folder. here is what i get with ls drwxrwx--- 12 root DevGroup 4096 Sep 27 17:34 testFolder which seems perfect but when i try as a user to access the file i get this var/www$ ls testFolder/ ls: cannot open directory testFolder/: Permission denied also when i try to access the a page in the folder from browser [Thu Sep 27 17:47:16 2012] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] PHP Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required '/var/www/testFolder/foo.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in Unknown on line 0
