  • Trying to install mysql then lots of brew doctor errors

    - by gdi2290
I couldn't install mysql I get this brew install mysql Error: You must `brew link cmake' before mysql can be installed so then I type brew ink cmake Linking /usr/local/Cellar/cmake/2.8.8... Error: Could not symlink file: /usr/local/Cellar/cmake/2.8.8/share/doc/cmake /usr/local/share/doc is not writable. You should change its permissions. when I typed brew doctor I get this Error: Some directories in /usr/local/share/locale aren't writable. This can happen if you "sudo make install" software that isn't managed by Homebrew. If a brew tries to add locale information to one of these directories, then the install will fail during the link step. • VncServer can't restart because of Xvnc

    - by geoffrobinson
I'm working on a Red Hat Linux server. VNC server started to act weird (i.e. the sessions became Spartan). So I decided to reboot VNC server. I keep getting the following error message: "unable to start Xvnc, exiting" Does anyone know what this means? The best thing I could come up via Google was that some packages needed to be updated, but everything was already up to date.

  • PHP Error / Mk-livestatus in Nagvis

    - by tod
I have Nagios and Nagvis installed via Debian packages, but when I run Nagvis and try to get into the "General Configuration" menu I get this error Error: (0) Array to string conversion (/usr/share/nagvis/share/server/core/classes/WuiViewEditMainCfg.php:126) #0 /usr/share/nagvis/share/server/core/classes/WuiViewEditMainCfg.php(126): nagvisExceptionErrorHandler(8, 'Array to string...', '/usr/share/nagv...', 126, Array) #1 /usr/share/nagvis/share/server/core/classes/WuiViewEditMainCfg.php(44): WuiViewEditMainCfg->getFields() #2 /usr/share/nagvis/share/server/core/classes/CoreModMainCfg.php(56): WuiViewEditMainCfg->parse() #3 /usr/share/nagvis/share/server/core/functions/index.php(120): CoreModMainCfg->handleAction() #4 /usr/share/nagvis/share/server/core/ajax_handler.php(63): require('/usr/share/nagv...') #5 {main} I'm also having an issue with backends in Nagvis. check-mk-livestatus is installed, but I get this error when hovering over items: Problem (backend: live_1): Unable to connect to the /var/lib/nagios3/rw/live in backend live_1: Connection refused Or when trying to add things: Unable to fetch data from backend - falling back to input field. /var/lib/nagios3/rw/ exists, but there is no "live" file. I'm really not sure what is going on, especially since these were all Debian packages... Here is the most relevant part of the nagvis.ini.php: ; ---------------------------- ; Backend definitions ; ---------------------------- ; Example definition of a livestatus backend. ; In this case the backend_id is live_1 ; The path /usr/local/nagios/var/rw has to exist [backend_live_1] backendtype="mklivestatus" ; The status host can be used to prevent annoying timeouts when a backend is not ; reachable. This is only useful in multi backend setups. ; ; It works as follows: The assumption is that there is a "local" backend which ; monitors the host of the "remote" backend. When the remote backend host is ; reported as UP the backend is queried as normal. ; When the remote backend host is reported as "DOWN" or "UNREACHABLE" NagVis won't ; try to connect to the backend anymore until the backend host gets available again. ; ; The statushost needs to be given in the following format: ; "<backend_id>:<hostname>" -> e.g. "live_2:nagios" ;statushost="" socket="unix:/var/lib/nagios3/rw/live" There is nothing relating to 'backends' or 'mklivestatus' in /var/log/nagios3/nagios.log Any help would be much appreciated

  • gvim on Lubuntu

    - by icedTea
I can't seem to use gvim on lubuntu. After installing vim with sudo apt-get install vim I cannot seem to start it: $ gvim The program 'gvim' can be found in the following packages: * vim * vim-gnome * vim-tiny * vim-athena * vim-gtk * vim-nox Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package> $ Is this an issue with lubuntu? Is there a workaround? Vim does start in terminal mode, I would prefer gvim though.

  • XenServer 6.0.2 path to installation media contains non-ascii characters

    - by cmaduro
XenServer 6.0.2 install fails no matter what I do. I have confirmed that the md5 checksum on my ISO file is good. I tried installing from a mounted ISO file (remotely via iKVM). I tried installing from physical media. I tried installing from a bootable USB stick (using syslinux + contents of the ISO) All attempts have yielded the same result: When verifying the installation media, at 0% initializing, the following is reported: "Some packages appeared to be damaged." followed by a list of pretty much all the gz2 and rpm packages. If I skip the media verification the installer proceeds and then gives me an error when it reaches "Installing from base pack" at 0% which states "An unrecoverable error has occurred. The error was: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 20710: ordinal not in range(128) Please refer to your user guide, or contact a Technical Support Representative, for further details" there is one option left which is to reboot. Apparently at some point during the processing of the repositories on the installation media non-ascii characters are found, which causes the installer to quit. How do I fix this? Here are my specs TYAN S8236 motherboard 2 AMD Opteron 6234 processors LSI2008 card connected to 2 1TB Seagate Constellation drives SATA, 1 500GB Corsair m4 SSD SATA and 1 Corsair Forse 3 - 64GB SSD SATA Onboard SATA connected to a slim DVD-+RW. Onboard SAS connected to 2 IBM ESX 70GB 10K SAS drives (for XenServer) 256GB memory ================================================================================= Comments: According to pylonsbook.com "chances are you have run into a problem with character sets, encodings, and Unicode" – cmaduro 10 hours ago A clue is provided by "vmware.com/support/vsphere5/doc/…; Data migration fails if the path to the vCenter Server installation media contains non-ASCII characters When this problem occurs, an error message similar to: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xd0 in position 30: ordinal not in range(128) appears, and the installer quits unexpectedly during the data migration process. – cmaduro 10 hours ago This is an error that python throws. And guess what, the .py extention of the file you have to edit in this link community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1168 means the installer is written in python. Python is interpreted, so now to find the install file responsible for this error. – cmaduro 6 hours ago The file that generates the error upon verification is /opt/xensource/installer/tui/repo.py. The error message appears around line 359. – cmaduro 2 hours ago I am fairly sure that the install error is generated somewhere in repository.py as the backend.py file throws errors while methods in that file are being called. Perhaps all errors can be traced back to this file. – cmaduro 1 hour ago

  • How do I make dashboard widgets active on logon?

    - by CharlesB
There are a few dashboard widget that are useful even when not going in Dashboard. For example, SVN Notifier sends a Growl notification when commits are made to a repository you want to watch. Or, Delivery Status does the same for status update on tracked packages. The thing is when I log into OS X, those status updates won't happen until the first time I actually enter into Dashboard, so it looks like they are not initialized at startup. How to fix this?

  • HP DL360 G6 NC328i Dual Port Gigabit - Windows Server 2003 R2 Driver Problem

    - by brianjd
I recently installed Windows Server 2003 R2 (64) on a DL360 G6 without using the SmartStart CD (it didn't like the MSDN media). But when I attempted to install the network drivers post-install using the packages from the HP website, I wasn't successful. Though I selected the correct package, the installer reported I did not have the necessary hardware configuration. Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks

  • Install iphone sdk DMG file on iMac but I can't find where any of the programs are located

    - by Tawani
I just download the iPhone DMG file from apple and installed in on my new iMac (by following these directions: link text). The problem is, I can't seem to find where any of the programs got installed. I can't find XCode or Interface Builder in the applications list and everytime I click on the "iPhone SDK" icon in the applications list, it re-opens finder with the same packages that I am trying to install. P/S: I am completely new to the the Mac world so I might be doing everything completely wrong.

  • Monitoring MySQL SELECT/WRITE/UPDATE/SLOW queries in Nagios

    - by imaginative
There's ways to get performance graphs with several monitoring software packages out there such as ZenOSS. There's a plugin available that will graph MySQL based SELECT/WRITE/SLOW queries in a nice rrd style graph. I'm curious if there is a way to also get similar graphs available in Nagios 3.0? I know Nagios has tools like pnp and can integrate rrd, but is there something readily available that can plugin to monitor those MySQL specifics?

  • What is a good method to solve cabal install problems?

    - by sp3ctum
I've used the cabal package manager for Haskell programs to install libraries and new projects that I've cloned from some repositories. More often than not, I keep running into problems. Most projects make installing them seem super easy, but in my case that's not always true - sometimes they are very hard to get running. Some are so hard, in fact, that I've lost interest in the project solely because of not being able to install it. So instead of complaining, I'd like to ask what I should do to better this situation. I'd like to use my most recent problem as an example. I'm interested in trying out the Gitit project. It's a promising looking personal wiki that runs on various version control systems. So here's what I've done: Clone from Github run cabal install in the project directory like I'm told on the project install page: mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ ls BLUETRIP-LICENSE CHANGES HCAR-gitit.tex LICENSE Network README.markdown RELANN-0.6.1 Setup.lhs TANGOICONS YUI-LICENSE data expireGititCache.hs gitit.cabal gitit.hs plugins mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ cabal install Resolving dependencies... cabal: cannot configure happstack-server-7.0.7. It requires base64-bytestring ==1.0.* For the dependency on base64-bytestring ==1.0.* there are these packages: base64-bytestring-1.0.0.0. However none of them are available. base64-bytestring-1.0.0.0 was excluded because gitit-0.10 requires base64-bytestring ==0.1.* mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ So now I'm thinking: well, I'll install happstack-server on its own, maybe that will work: mika@eka:~/git/gitit$ cabal install happstack-server Resolving dependencies... Warning: happstack-server.cabal: Ignoring unknown section type: test-suite Configuring happstack-server-7.0.7... cabal: At least the following dependencies are missing: blaze-html ==0.5.*, hslogger >=1.0.2, monad-control ==0.3.*, network >=2.2.3, sendfile >=0.7.1 && <0.8, system-filepath >=0.3.1, text >=0.10 && <0.12, threads >=0.5, transformers-base ==0.4.* cabal: Error: some packages failed to install: happstack-server-7.0.7 failed during the configure step. The exception was: ExitFailure 1 So looks like there are some dependencies missing. But isn't installing these dependencies the whole point of using cabal in the first place? What should I do? File bug reports (to which project?), install the dependencies manually or something else? Bonus points for explaining what causes these kinds of problems.

  • mounting VMDK images on opensolaris

    - by Bjorn Harpe
I know that VMware ships a vmware-mount utility with its server 2 packages on Linux that allow you to mount a VMDK outside a vm and treat it as a normal filesystem mounted on the given mountpoint. Is there a method for accomplishing something similar in OpenSolaris that does not require converting to a raw image and then back?

A friend of mine wanted the liboost libraries installed on our shared computer so after installing libboost-all-dev 1.49.0.1 ( A debian wheezy machine ), I get this error when using the "pydoc modules" command on the commandline.
