• How to make an NSURL that contains a | (pipe character)?

  Hi all, I am trying to access google maps' forward geocoding service from my iphone app. When i try to make an NSURL from a string with a pipe in it I just get a nil pointer. NSURL *searchURL = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=6th+and+pine&bounds=37.331689,-122.030731|37.331689,-122.030731&sensor=false"]; I dont see any other way in the google api to send bounds coordinates with out a pipe. Any ideas about how I can do this?

  We are looking into the possibility of upgrading to Team Foundation Server 2008 for our development team. One of our primary reasons is some of the deployment capabilities surrounding BizTalk 2009, but I am curious what other benefits there are for other projects outside of BizTalk. Some of our interests so far are moving to a one click build and deploy process, the addition of unit tests, and continuous integration. Some definite steps forward for the company I work for. What other benefits or information should I look at as I pitch this to upper management? I am looking for technical reasons, money is a not really a concern for this discussion.

• asp.net and Visual studio root directory question

  I am seeing something very odd and thought I would ask the Stackoverflow community if they knew the answer. I have an asp.net project that runs fine in one environment, but couldn't figure out what happened to the styles in another environment. In the first environment (Windows 2008 Server), the following link worked fine: <link href="/Styles/09/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> but in the other environment (it's a Windows 7), I had to change it to work: <link href="../Styles/09/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> Notice that the directories seemed to shift ahead one directory in the Win7, what's going on? It's like the "running" directory seems now be the \bin directory instead of the home! Which environment is configured correctly? How do I determine execution directory level? My concern going forward is pushing to a prod environment and guessing which configuration is correct. Any insight would be appreciated!

  I have a image map set up and each area in the image map has a href defined. the href on area contains urls to other pages in my application. i generate a have a small ul which lists down name attribute of the area tag. i want the dynamically generated ul/lis to imitate click behaviour of area tag. for this, i have the following jquery set up - $('li').click(function(e){ $('area[name='+$(this).html()+']').trigger('click'); }); but the above works well only in ie6+. ff does not fire the click event. i also tried the click() variant but to no avail. looking forward for some help.   I'm using the MVC PHP framework Codeigniter and I have a straight forward question about where to call redirect() from: Controller or Model? Scenario: A user navigates to www.example.com/item/555. In my Model I search the item database for an item with the ID of 555. If I find the item, I'll return the result to my controller. However, if an item is not found, I want to redirect the user somewhere. Should this call to redirect() come from inside the model or the controller? Why?

  What I have: A person daily send to me an email, which has a zip'ed XML attachment. What I do: I save that attachment, unpack it and import via XML importerer to my web site. What I need: Automatic script, what I can automatically forward my email to ex.: [email protected] and read that attachment via some php file in my website, which maybe will be activated daily via server cronjob. The relevant code for this .h file has the declaration { NSMutableArray *trnEntered; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *trnEntered .m file has the following code - trnEntered = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSLog(@"%@",[trnEntered count]); // prints null. [trnEntered addObject:@"1"]; NSLog(@"%@",[trnEntered count]); // exec bad access. Not sure where I'm going wrong here. Looks fairly straight forward. Thanks for the help in advance, Teja.

• asp.net mvc script and style references

  I'm trying to include script and style references that will not break on deployment, however I can not even get the references to work locally. I have tried using Url.Content() and MVCContrib's <%=Html.ScriptInclude("")%>. My scripts are in a Scripts folder on the root of the site; my styles are in the usual Content/css/ folder. The scripts render like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" ></script> This will not work in a view page in the Views folder. What am I doing wrong and what is the best way to handle this? I would have thought Url.Content() would at least work for styles but used in my master page, the link rendered <link href="/Content/css/Site.css rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> This does not work, because the Master Page is in a Shared folder, so what is really the way forward with this?

  Pretty basic question, however, I am very new to jQuery and javascript in general. I have a jQuery validation that is requiring a text box to have text in it, if a checkbox is checked. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $("form").validate( { rules: { Comments: { required: "#IsAbnormal:checked" } }, messages: { Comments: { required: "Comments are required" } }, onkeyup: false, wrapper: "", errorLabelContainer: "#ErrorMessageBox" }); }); Pretty straight forward, if you check the IsAbnormal checkbox, it will throw a validation if there are no comments. What I am trying to do is require a textbox based on if another text box has any text in it, for instance require the old password if a user enters a new password into a textbox. Is there an easy way to get the required: "#NewPassword:NotBlank" to work?

• MySQL: Limit output according to associated ID

  So here's my situation. I have a books table and authors table. An author can have many books... In my authors page view, the user (logged in) can click an author in a tabled row and be directed to a page displaying the author's books (collected like this URI format: viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23), very straight forward... However, in my query, I need to display the books for the author only, and not all books stored in the books table (as i currently have!) As I am a complete novice, I used the most simple query of: SELECT * FROM tasks_tb This returns the books for me, but returns every single value (book) in the database, and not ones associated with the selected author. And when I click a different author the same books are displayed for them...I think everyone gets what I'm trying to achieve, I just don't know how to perform the query. I'm guessing that I need to start using more advanced query clauses like INNER JOIN etc. Anyone care to help me out :)

• Trimming a vector of strings

  I have an std::vector of std::strings containing data similar to this: [0] = "" [1] = "Abc" [2] = "Def" [3] = "" [4] = "Ghi" [5] = "" [6] = "" How can I get a vector containing the 4 strings from 1 to 4? (i.e. I want to trim all blank strings from the start and end of the vector): [0] = "Abc" [1] = "Def" [2] = "" [3] = "Ghi" Currently, I am using a forward iterator to make my way up to "Abc" and a reverse iterator to make my way back to "Ghi", and then constructing a new vector using those iterators. This method works, but I want to know if there is an easier way to trim these elements. P.S. I'm a C++ noob. Edit Also, I should mention that the vector may be composed entirely of blank strings, in which case a 0-sized vector would be the desired result.

• mod_rewrite: remove trailing slash (only one!)

  Hello. I use mod_rewrite/.htaccess for pretty URLs. I'm using this condition/rule to eliminate trailing slashes (or rather: rewrite to the non-trailing-slash-URL, by a 301 redirect; I'm doing this to avoid duplicate content and because I like URLs with no trailing slashes better): RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^\.localhost$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] Working well so far. Only drawback: it also forwards "multiple-trailing-slash"-URLs to non-trailing-slash-URLs. Example: http://example.tld/foo/bar////// forwards to http://example.tld/foo/bar while I only want http://example.tld/foo/bar/ to forward to http://example.tld/foo/bar. So, is it possible to only eliminate trailing slashes if it's actually just one trailing slash? Sorry if this is a somewhat annoying or weird question! Thanks.

  what i need is a server that listens to 5060 port , when the client sends data to that port the server should open up another port ( any port after 1250 i believe ) and forward the clients data to that port keeping 5060 idle so it can perform the same function for the next client so basically i need the server to a) open up multiple ports one for each client b) get the voice data from the client and be able to send voice data to that client i m looking into the hardware specs and other such details of the scenario so i dont have time to make such a program myself if theres a code that i can run directly ( both server and client side ) on visual studio .net 2010 that will perform these tasks then that would be extremely helpful thanks alot in advance

• Drupal does not recognize my website has been installed

  After a successful Drupal install, I was trying to follow the security recommendations and reverted the settings.php file to 444 permissions (read, read, read). Then, all of a sudden, right after doing that, Drupal does not recognize the installation process was completed. It went back to the install screen. Worst of all. I did chmod back to 666 (write, write, write) but it does not work any more. When I move forward as if I was going to install Drupal again, he tells me he does not have permissions to create the files folder under sites/default... But since the installation has already been completed... the files folder is already there... I am puzzled... Could it be some sort of server caching? Since this is one of my first adventures with a Linux server, I am a bit confused. Any help appreciated... Thanks.

  I currently have a project that uses various DB access technologies mainly for showcasing or for demos. Currently we have: Namespace App.Data (App.Data.dll) Folder NHibernate Folder EntityFramework Folder LinqToSql The above structure is ok as we only use Sql Server as the DB. But going forward we will be including Oracle, MySql etc. So what would be a better structure with this in mind? • How do I go about embedding a youtube chromeless player without adding controls?

  I am creating an online experiment. It involves participants watching a video then answering a questionnaire. I would like to embed a chromeless youtube video which plays automatically on page load, does not have controls for participants to play around with, and loads the next page once the video finishes. Now the autoplay/forward to next page functions are secondary and I'm not too concerned if I can't get them working. However I am very interested in how to embed a chromeless player. I have gone to the google playground but this code already has the controls attached. I am not very experienced at coding so I do not know what to remove from the code for none of the custom controls on the left to be displayed. Is anyone able to help me? Thanks, Wil

• Expression Studio - v2 good enough for learning?

  I have VS 2008, and looking forward to moving fairly quickly to VS2010. Our applications (we only have a few) are all winforms apps - mostly VB. I want to start to learn WPF. My version of Expression Studio is version 2. I have heard that the improvements made from version 2 to version 3 are significant. If it follows the paradigm of version 3 being the adult app (past the infancy of version 1 and the awkwardness of version 2), then I suppose it would be worth the investment to get it before starting to learn. But, unless my company was willing to pay, I am hoping to keep costs low. Can anyone share some experience - is version 2 good enough to learn on, or should I bite the bullet and smooth my learning experience by going with version 3? Thanks!

• Determining if and where a photon will collide with a polygon in 3D space.

  The problem is straight forward: 1) We have a photon traveling from Point 1 (x,y,z) to Point 2 (x,y,z), both of which could be located anywhere in 3D space. 2) We have a polygon that is both rotated randomly on the x-axis and/or y-axis and also located anywhere in 3D space. 3) We want to find: a) if the photon will collide with the polygon at all and b) if it does where will that be (x,y,z)? • While in CMD shell, copying files from host OS to guest VM locks files (VMware Player/Workstation)

  We're running the latest versions of VMWare Player and Workstation for Windows. The following behavior is identical across both products. Problem: We open a CMD prompt in our guest OS (XP, Vista, Windows 7) and copy files from our host OS using the standard CMD shell copy command: copy z:\C$\testfiles The copy completes successfully, but from that point forward, all the files that were copied to our guest OS are now LOCKED on our host OS. This does not happen if we use Windows Explorer to copy files - it only happens when files are copied via the CMD shell. As mentioned at the start of this question, this behavior is reproducible in both VMWare Player and VMWare Workstation across multiple machines and multiple guest OS's. I've googled for a workaround, but without success. Any ideas appreciated. Malcolm

  Hi, I tried to get the address of a particular location by giving static geocordinates. I was not able to fetch the address. Can someone please help. I just need to check whether this function works for me. Here is my snippet. Twitter claims it uses FlockDB for the following: Twitter runs FlockDB on a large cluster of machines. we use it to store social graphs (who follows whom, who blocks whom) and secondary indices at twitter. At first glance, setup and trying it doesn't look straight forward. Have anyone already used it / setup this? If so, please answer the following general queries. What kind of applications is it better suited for? (Twitter claims it is simple and very rough, it remains to see what it meant though) How is FlockDB better than other graph db / noSQL db. Have you setup FlockDB, used it for a application? Early advices any? Note: I am evaluating the FlockDB and other graph databases mainly for learning them. Perhaps, I will build an application for that.

  Hi, The UNIX department of my company currently uses CVS as source-version control system. They use it in a very strange way: different repositories for development/testing/production code (for the same project), no one tags anything, weird directory architecture, and so on. The system has been set for ages but now, I have an opportunity to organize a meeting where I have to suggest changes. I'd like to make them change from CVS to SVN (Mercurial or Git might be even better, however I can't really recommand using a system I don't know well, and switching to SVN will already be a great step forward). I don't have much experience with CVS so I can't compare them efficiently: I just know it doesn't support atomic operations and that it is deprecated. What killer arguments would you use to convince my collegues to do the switch ? Thank you very much.

  I want to add an overlay view for my video when the video is paused by the user. Is there any way to get the pause notification from MPMoviePlayerController? According to Apple Doc, there should be ways to do this but I can't find which notification should I use for this purpose.
