• How do I create email addresses for all my users using my domain ([email protected])?

  My client wants to create email addresses for all their dotnetnuke users using their domain. The point is to keep the user's email addresses 'private' while still allowing communication through a public email address that they can control. It's not necessary to have a full webmail interface (although that would be nice). I'm thinking it would be enough just to forward any mail on and just act as a gateway. So if an email was sent to [email protected], it would be forwarded on to the email address associated with the dotnetnuke account with username 'rwain'. Is this possible to do in a shared hosting environment? Or do I need to create some custom mail server that does a conversion of the email address and forwards it?

• C++ template overloading - wrong function called

  template<typename T> T* Push(T* ptr); template<typename T> T* Push(T& ref); template<typename T, typename T1> T* Push(T1&& ref); I have int i = 0; Push<int>(i); But the compiler calls it ambiguous. How is that ambiguous? The second function is clearly the preferred match since it's more specialized. Especially since the T1&& won't bind to an lvalue unless I explicitly forward/move it. Sorry - i is an int. Otherwise, the question would make no sense, and I thought people would infer it since it's normally the loop iterator.

• Presentation to under privileged students about what programming is. How? Any ideas.

  Next week I have to give a presentation to a group of under privileged college students about the possibilities of a career in software development. These students have no exposure to programming what-so-ever. I have a good idea of how to tackle the non-technical, general portion of the presentation. However, notwithstanding my decade of experience, I am finding myself at somewhat of a loss how to convey the concept of programming in a meaningful way in under 20 minutes. Do I demonstrate actual simple code, or do I stick with concepts? I need to be able to scratch the surface of the vastness of the programming realm, to create just enough of a handle to those students, to peak the interest of those who might have the aptitude for it. Any ideas that are concise and clear would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anybody knows of online resources that addresses this topic, please share. Looking forward to some great input from this community. Thank you.

• jQuery - Outputting jquery results to a hidden form field

  Hey All, I was wondering how i could output the results from my jQuery to a hidden form field so i can then shove it into the database. Im using the Calendar function found here - http://www.kelvinluck.com/assets/jquery/datePicker/v2/demo/index.html Apparently the following code gets the array, but im not sure how to forward it to the hidden field. $('.date-picker').dpGetSelected() From what i can tell i want the dpGetSelected to run with when the following is triggered dpClosed Its all a bit confusing to me. • errorPage directive works, but error-page in web.xml doesn't?

  I get jsp exceptions causing a forward to my error page when I put this at the top of my JSPs... <%@ page errorPage="/error.page" %> but when I try to do it globally with web.xml like so: <error-page> <exception-type>java.lang.Throwable</exception-type> <location>/error.page</location> </error-page> I just get a blank page... I've also tried putting /error.jsp in the location element.. but no love with that either.. I am triggering an exception with a jsp that just contains this: <%if(true)throw new RuntimeException("test exception");%> I do see the exception in the console from tomcat but I just can't get that error page to show without a directive on every jsp... am I missing something simple here?

• How to make a custom installer for games, etc?

  Hello. Can anyone tell me how to create a custom installer to 'install' games. I say custom meaning I don't want the user to have the option where the game is installed. I want it to be a straight forward process, maybe with just one loading bar. The program I'm developing is a 'center' for game playing, which includes a community and other features, such as a timer that records how long a game is played for. I just thought that installing each game in one place, with a simple installer would make the program easier to use. It also will allow me to do other features as the games will all be installed in one place. No need for the user to specify where the game is installed. Would this be possible?

• Command Prompt closes on Windows, using Wamp Server commands

  Hey guys, I am following the tutorial on PHP with MySQL. In that tutorial ebook, they recommend us to use commands to set password for the MySQL. The command goes something like this, "mysqladmin -u root -p status" Now, I am using Windows XP and whenever I enter the command, the dos screen flashes and terminates. I am unable to note down the results, so the question: is there any way to stop command prompt from terminating on Windows machine? Looking forward to hear from you guys, thank you!

I would like to know where I need to start in order to learn back-end programming not only for the knowledge, but also for the challenge of it. • Delete/move a UITableView row that's attached to a web service.

  Deleting or moving rows for a UITableView that is backed with local data (e.g., NSArray) is easy and instantaneous: Remove the value from the array. Call deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:withRowAnimation:. Profit! But my table view communicates with a web service, which means once the "Delete" button on that row gets tapped, I have to forward a request on to the server (via ASIHTTPRequest, of course), get the response, and then tell the table view to run its little delete-row animation, all with a few seconds of latency in between. From a high-level, what's the best way to do that? Throw some callback selector into ASIHTTPRequest's userInfo dictionary? KVO? Bonus points for some nice UI touch, like some kind of spinner on the soon-to-be-deleted cell.

  I'm a person that learns best from example. Currently, I'm diving into the field of Web Development after fifteen years of developing desktop apps. I'm still getting used to all the web technologies used for developing modern web sites and everywhere I look, I see cool little UI elements and question how they're implemented. So I thought I'd ask you, the web experts...the wexperts :) What are some straight forward or creative ways you could code this grid-breaking arrow... The basic layout for this page looks like... What would the html/css code look like? Would you split the image into multiple images or could you use a single image? I'm sure this is a really simple concept and it completely boggles me. • iPhone Accelerometer Values

  My question is about the iPhone accelerometer. Does the accelerometer measure acceleration or movement of the iPhone? What I mean is if I hold the iPhone and go from 0mph to 60mph, I would expect the measure of acceleration to increase in value from 0 to 60, but once I reach 60, I expect the value to return to 0 since I am "no longer accelerating" but am moving at a constant speed. Now if the accelerometer measure motion, I would expect it to register 0 to 60 and continue to provide a change in value as I move forward at 60mph. Sorry, I looked at a few books, programmed some code (values seemed to small to give a recognizable result over short distances or speeds), and a lot of web searches, and I am trying to get an answer to this question. • SWIG: Throwing exceptions from Python to C++

  We've got an interface we've defined in C++ (abstract class, all functions pure virtual) which will be extended in Python. To overcome the cross-language polymorphism issues we're planning on using SWIG directors. I've read how to catch exceptions thrown from C++ code in our Python code here, here, here, and even on SO. It's fairly straight forward and I'm not expecting issues with handling our library's own exceptions. What I'd like to know and can't seem to find in the documentation is how to have our Python implementation of the extended C++ interface throw those C++ exceptions in a way that makes them visible to the C++ code. We could make small functions within the *.i files such that each function throws our exceptions: void throw_myException(){ throw MyException; } but I'm wondering how it will interact with the Python code. Anyone have any experience with throwing C++ exceptions from Python code?

• PHP IF statement not taking variable into account!

  I have a tabled view in a while loop, where a user can view information on books. For example, book ISBN, book name, read status... Basically, when the user sets their 'readstatus' to 'complete' I want that specific table row to become grey! The logic is very straight forward, however I can't get my IF statement to recognise this: $readstatus = $_GET['readstatus']; if ($readstatus == 'complete') { echo '<tr class="completed">'; } else if ($readstatus != 'complete') { echo '<tr class="reading">'; } I'm obviously doing something wrong here, but all I need is the CSS class of the table row to change if the value of 'readstatus' = 'complete', if not, then output the default CSS table row color ('reading') Should I be putting $result as the variable or something? I have this coming just before my nested IF statement: $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die ("Couldn't perform query $sql <br />".mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { ?>

• C# Spawn Multiple Threads for work then wait until all finished

  just want some advice on "best practice" regarding multi-threading tasks. as an example, we have a C# application that upon startup reads data from various "type" table in our database and stores the information in a collection which we pass around the application. this prevents us from hitting the database each time this information is required. at the moment the application is reading data from 10 tables synchronously. i would really like to have the application read from each table in a different thread all running in parallel. the application would wait for all the threads to complete before continuing with the startup of the application. i have looked into BackGroundWorker but just want some advice on accomplishing the above. Does the method sound logical in order to speed up the startup time of our application How can we best handle all the threads keeping in mind that each thread's work is independent of one another, we just need to wait for all the threads to complete before continuing. i look forward to some answers

• ASP.Net: Expiring a page when navigating back

  Basically all pages on this site I am building cannot be accessed when the user clicks on "Back" (or with key control) in the browser, and the page should expire if one is trying to navigate back in history. I put into Global.asax::Application_BeginRequest Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache) Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.UtcNow.AddDays(-1)) Response.Cache.SetValidUntilExpires(False) Response.Cache.SetRevalidation(HttpCacheRevalidation.AllCaches) Response.Cache.SetNoStore() This would clear out the cache and disallow going back to any pages when the user is logged out, but doesn't do the job while the user is logged in. I saw posts where people suggested using a javascript approach, by calling History.Forward(1) on the page. But I wouldn't like to do this, as it will require javascript enabled to work (which user can disable). Appreciate any suggestions.

• C++ static virtual members?

  Is it possible in C++ to have a member function that is both static and virtual? Apperantly, there isn't a straight-forward way to do it (static virtual member(); is a complie error), but at least a way to acheive the same effect? I.E: struct Object { struct TypeInformation; static virtual const TypeInformation &GetTypeInformation() const; }; struct SomeObject : public Object { static virtual const TypeInformation &GetTypeInformation() const; }; It makes sence to use GetTypeInformation() both on an instance (object->GetTypeInformation()) and on a class (SomeObject::GetTypeInformation()), which can be useful for comparsions and vital for templates. The only ways I can think of involves writing two functions / a function and a constant, per class, or use macros. Any other solutions?

  I'm learning about metaclasses in Python. I think it is a very powerful technique, and I'm looking for good uses for them. I'd like some feedback of good useful real-world examples of using metaclasses. I'm not looking for example code on how to write a metaclass (there are plenty examples of useless metaclasses out there), but real examples where you have applied the technique and it was really the appropriate solution. The rule is: no theoretical possibilities, but metaclasses at work in a real application. I'll start with the one example I know: Django models, for declarative programming, where the base class Model uses a metaclass to fill the model objects of useful ORM functionality from the attribute definitions. • Objective-C property getter

  What is technically wrong with the following: @property(nonatomic, assign) NSUInteger timestamp; @property(nonatomic, readonly, getter = timestamp) NSUInteger startTime; @property(nonatomic, assign) NSUInteger endTime; I am sure I can find a better way to organise this, but this is what I ended up with at one point in my project and I noticed that accessing the startTime property always returned 0, even when the timestamp property was set to a correct timestamp. It seems having set the getter of startTime to an existing property (timestamp), it is not forwarding the value of timestamp when I do: event.startTime => 0 event.timestamp => 1340920893 All these are timestamps by the way. Just a reminder, I know the above should have happened in my project but I don't understand why accessing startTime doesn't forward onto timestamp property. • How does the dataset determine the return type of a scalar query?

  I am attempting to add a scalar query to a dataset. The query is pretty straight forward, it's just adding up some decimal values in a few columns and returning them. I am 100% confident that only one row and one column is returned, and that it is of decimal type (SQL money type). The problem is that for some reason, the generated method (in the .designer.cs code file) is returning a value of type object, when it should be decimal. What's strange is that there's another scalar query that has the exact same SQL but is returning decimal like it should. How does the dataset designer determine the data type, and how can I tell it to return decimal?

• Need new method for linking to native mapping from mobile web app

  My mobile web apps use a map button which automatically starts the mapping features of Android and iPhone by simply linking to http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York. iOs 6 comes out, the links stop working, because Apple wants us to use "maps.APPLE.com". Turns out ANYTHING you send to "maps.apple.com" gets forwarded to "maps.google.com". So now I have to specially detect iOs 6 and swap out links just so Apple can forward everything back to Google anyway. Is there a clean way to open the device/native mapping app from a mobile web app that works on Android, iOs 6, and iOs pre-6, since iOs 6 nerfed it? • Is it bad practice to select upstream servers based upon the HTTP method?

  I'm wondering if it is bad practice to have a reverse proxy that selects the upstream server depending on the HTTP method used? The background is that I have an abitrary web server that handles POST requests with some logic behind. The same resources also contain static content, that can be retrieved using GET. After some benchmarking I realized that nginx would handle the static content way faster than my abitrary web server doing this. I checked the option to forward incoming requests internally using nginx, which is feasible. But this would lead to the fact that different servers would serve a distinct resource, only depending on issuing a GET or POST, including different header fields.

• MapView without Zoom Levels Android

  I'm using the MapView object for my app and it's working really well. But I noticed that it "locks" to zoom levels, even if you don't use them. For instance, if you pinch to zoom and barely do it, the view will "snap" either forward or backward to whatever the closest zoom level is. The native google maps application does not do this at all. You can barely pinch, and it'll accept it (there are no 'hard' zoom levels built in). How can I get my mapview to mirror that?
