• Process development lifecycle in Oracle BPM 11g

     Oracle BPM 11g platform provides two modeling tools tailored to different audience. The BPM Process Composer component is a web-based, role-driven, collaborative platform for discovery, design and documentation of business processes aimed at business audience. It empowers the business user to participate in the definition, feedback and design of business processes. • How can I backup my PPAs?

  Related to this question. But my concern is that over the past year, most of my more interesting (or used) applications are from PPAs, and just backing up my sources list won't add the associated launchpad keys the way that add-apt-repository does. So I'm looking for a way to list all the PPA urls (like ppa:chromium-daily/stable) so that I can easily script a series of add-apt-repository commands to add them into a new installation gracefully. Short of dumping my bash history of course. Which might be feasible, depending on how far back that file goes back?

• What are the advantages and disadventages of git or bzr + rsync vs rdiff-backup?

  I used to use rsync to do backups, but then I switched to rdiff-backup to incremental backups. Recently, I discovered git and bzr while working on a coding project. So, I was thinking, I could have my backup disk be a repository in either git or bzr. Then I could rsync to the repository, and commit the changes. Would there be any performance concerns with this? Any other issues that I'm not thinking of? The benefit I see in using rsync is that you can restart an interrupted transfer, while rdiff-backup reverts to the last version, and then starts again. Any reason not to do it this way? Anything I'm not thinking of?

• Another Custom Property Locator: a Library of Books

  Introduction The previous post gave an introduction to custom property locators and showed how create one using JDeveloper.  This post continues on the custom locator theme, with a slightly more complex locator: a library of books.  It demonstrates using the DAO pattern to delegate data access from the Locator, which is likely how many actual backing stores will integrate with the Locator.  You can imagine, rather than a library of books, the data store might be a user database of sorts.  The same sort of pattern would apply. This post uses the BookLocator example originally shown in the WebCenter documentation, but has: updated the source code to reflect the final Property APIs includes the steps for generating the namespace and property definition files via JDeveloper detailed usage of the PropertyService APIs Getting Started If you're new to JDeveloper, you might want to check out this tutorial.  There is also the "Jump-Start to using Personalization" blog post that you might find useful.  Otherwise, if you're already familiar with both, you can skip those tutorials and jump right in to using JDeveloper. Download the BookLocator.zip file (which has been updated from the original post) and unzip it to a new directory.  Start JDeveloper, navigate to the BookLocator.jws file, and open it.   It should look something like this: The Properties Namespace file contains the property definitions and property set definitions you define.  It is explained more in detail in the Namespace documentation.  Although this example doesn't show it, the property set definitions have the ability to reference multiple locators per property.   This can be done by right-clicking on the 'Locator Info' box.  Configure the contents of the Locator Map  by editing locators and mapping them to available property names in the property set definition. Compiling, deploying, and running your locator The rest of the steps in this tutorial basically follow those in the previous blog on custom locators, and won't be repeated here.   A scenario to invoke your locator is included with the sample app: see BookProperties.scenarios_diagram above.  Summary This post demonstrates a simple library of books accessed by the BookPropertyLocator via the DAO layer.  This is a useful pattern for more realistic property retrievals, such as a backing user store.  It also points out the possibility of retrieving properties from multiple locators, which would be quite handy to retrieve user attributes from multiple sources.

This will check if the TextBox value starts with A,B,C or D. Please note that it's case sensitive. If you want to allow lower case then you can alter the patter to this /^(A|B|C|D)/i.   I am wondering if there's anyone here who managed to use skype @ 12.04. It used to work (ever since i first tried Ubuntu 10.04) flawlessly, but after upgrade to 12.04 just doesn't start. If I start skype from terminal, it just says "Segmentation fault (core dumped). I tried to remove skype and installed it from different locations: Skype website (did not install at all, "package error") From official Ubuntu repository (doesn't start at all, segmentation fault) From repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner" (doesn't start at all, segmentation fault) Interesting thing: even if I remove / purge skype from the system, it still shows up in Unity menu (of course doesn't start). Any help here? Thanks!

• Storing non-content data in Orchard

  A CMS like Orchard is, by definition, designed to store content. What differentiates content from other kinds of data is rather subtle. The way I would describe it is by saying that if you would put each instance of a kind of data on its own web page, if it would make sense to add comments to it, or tags, or ratings, then it is content and you can store it in Orchard using all the convenient composition options that it offers. Otherwise, it probably isn't and you can store it using somewhat simpler means that I will now describe. In one of the modules I wrote, Vandelay.ThemePicker, there is some configuration data for the module. That data is not content by the definition I gave above. Let's look at how this data is stored and queried. We also have an Id property. Once we've done that, all we have to do in order to use the data is inject an IRepository<SettingsRecord>, which is what I'm doing from the set of helpers I put under the SettingsService class: private readonly IRepository<SettingsRecord> _repository; private readonly ISignals _signals; private readonly ICacheManager _cacheManager; public SettingsService( IRepository<SettingsRecord> repository, ISignals signals, ICacheManager cacheManager) { _repository = repository; _signals = signals; _cacheManager = cacheManager; } The repository has a Table property, which implements IQueryable<SettingsRecord> (enabling all kind of Linq queries) as well as methods such as Delete and Create. Here's for example how I'm getting all the records in the table: _repository.Table.ToList() And here's how I'm deleting a record: _repository.Delete(_repository.Get(r => r.Id == id)); And here's how I'm creating one: _repository.Create(new SettingsRecord { Name = name, RuleType = ruleType, Criterion = criterion, Theme = theme, Priority = priority, Zone = zone, Position = position }); In summary, you create a record class, a migration, and you're in business and can just manipulate the data through the repository that the framework is exposing. You even get ambient transactions from the work context.

• How to prevent code from leaking outside work?

  I'm working on an institution that has a really strong sense of "possession" - each line of software we write should be only ours. Ironically, I'm the only programmer (ATM), but we're planning in hiring others. Since my bosses wouldn't count the new programmers as people they can trust, they have an issue with the copies of the source code. We use Git, so they would have a entire copy of each of the projects they work on, when they clone the repository. We can restrict access to them to a single key with Gitolite and bind that to their PC's, but they can copy those keys to another computer and they would have the repository access in another PC. Also (and the most obvious method) they could just upload the files somewhere else, add another remote, or just copy the files to an USB drive. Is there any (perhaps clever) way to prevent events like these?

• Project OpenPTK Release 2.1 Available

  The OpenPTK owners are pleased to announce that release 2.1 is available.  It has been "tagged" in the svn repository. See the download page for details.   This release is an update to version 2.0.  This release contains bug fixes, enhancements to existing capabilities, and new features.  The most notable change in this release is the use of maven, instead of ant, for the build process.  The adoption of maven has made the project more modular, reduced its download size (less bundled jar files) and will enable the future support of Project OpenPTK in a maven repository.   Is there any design pattern or practice recommended for business layer when dealing with multiple API version. For example, I have something like this. http://site.com/blogs/v1/?count=10 which calls business object method GetAllBlogs(int count) to get information http://site.com/blogs/v2/?blog_count=20 which calls business object method GetAllBlogs_v2(int blogCounts) Since parameter name is changed, I created another business method for version 2. This is just one example but it could have other breaking changes for which it requires me to create another method to support both version. Is there any design pattern or best practice for business/data access layer I should follow when supporting API Versioning?

For the first time ever, I actually want to contribute to open source because I believe in this tech. I wrote a simple ASP.Net MVC3 demo web application showing how to login and logout users using Persona. • Where to put git "remote" repo on purely local git setup?

  I overwrote and lost some important scripts and would like to setup version control to protect my stuff. I've used git before, and am familiar with commands, but don't understand where I would put my "remote" repository on an install set up on my own machine---the place I push/pull to. I don't intend to share or access remotely, I just want a little source control for my files. I followed the instructions here for setting up my staging area: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4249974/personal-git-repository But where do I put git "remote" repo on purely local git setup? How does the workflow work then? On the command in the above: git remote add origin ssh://myserver.com:/var/repos/my_repo.git Where should I put/name something like this? • Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 results in loss of N network capability - how to restore?

  On Ubuntu 11.10, I had zero issues with N network detection and speed. I cannot remember whether the old driver was iwlagn or iwlwifi. This was with Ubuntu repository Linux kernel 3.0.0-22. Upon upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04, iwlwifi is the available driver and while it detects N networks, upon connection, the speed is cripplingly low and DNS look-ups do not occur (impossible to browse). This is with Ubuntu repository Linux kernel 3.2.0-26. Please note that the 11n_disable flag for the iwlwifi module cannot work for me as I require N network access. Is there another solution? Perhaps, is there a way to easily patch the new kernel with the old wireless module (just copy-and-paste the iwlagn module into the new kernel source and re-compile)? Relevant hardware specs: Dell Inspiron N5110 Network Adapter: Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030

When internationalizing an app, what pattern(s) are useful for handling messages with possible pluralization? What about messages with multiple possible pluralization? For example: "N review(s):" One pattern would be reviews.title.singular="{0} review:" reviews.title.singular="{0} reviews:" And this may not support all languages. Or a more complicated case: "Found M question(s) with N comment(s)." This would be difficult to support in English?
