    Hi I am trying to use C to implement a simple struct: 2 boxes, each contains different number of particles; the exact number of particles are passed in main(). Greatly appreciated if someone can shed some light on this.

    I'm working on a small project, and need to implement internationalization support somehow. I am thinking along the lines of using constants to define a lot of symbols for text in one file, which could be included subsequently. However, I'm not sure if using variables is faster, or if I can get away with using associative arrays without too much of a performance hit. What's better for defining constant values in PHP, performance-wise -- constants defined using define("FOO", "..."), or simple variables like $foo = "...", or associative arrays like $symbols["FOO"]?

What is correct value I should use for DataField property of the asp:BoundField column in my GridView control.     I'm re-writing alibrary with a mandate to make it totally allocation free. The goal is to have 0 collections after the app's startup phase is done. Previously, there were a lot of calls like this: Int32 foo = Int32.Parse(ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(bytes, start, length)); Which I believe is allocating a string. I couldn't find a C# library function that would do the same thing automatically. I looked at the BitConverter class, but it looks like that is only if your Int32 is encoded with the actual bytes that represent it. Here, I have an array of bytes representing Ascii characters that represent an Int32.     I'd like to map Foo[,] to Foo[][] and back. There are simple solutions using loops, but isn't there something more elegant?   • Sorting arrays with cyclic compares (infinite loop?)

    Hi, I have some objects that have 3 sorting options: quality, quatity and a compare against the other object, sorted by that order. - (NSComparisonResult) compare: (MyObject *) obj { if (self.quality > obj.quality) return NSOrderedAscending; else if (self.quality < obj.quality) return NSOrderedDescending; if (self.quantity > obj.quantity) return NSOrderedAscending; else if (self.quantity < obj.quantity) return NSOrderedDescending; if ([self betterThan: obj]) return NSOrderedAscending; if ([obj betterThan: self]) return NSOrderedDescending; return NSOrderedSame; } My problem is that, the betterThan: method might cause a cyclic compare if the objects have the same quality and quantity, and I want to return any sort order in that case. For example, A, B and C have the same quality/quantity, but A betterThan: B => YES B betterThan: C => YES C betterThan: A => YES Solutions? Thanks.

    Hey StackOverflow, I've got a question related to a beginner Python snippet I've written to introduce myself to the language. It's an admittedly trivial early effort, but I'm still wondering how I could have written it more elegantly. The program outputs NATO phoenetic readable versions of an argument, such "H2O" - "Hotel 2 Oscar", or (lacking an argument) just outputs the whole alphabet. I mainly use it for calling in MAC addresses and IQNs, but it's useful for other phone support too. My first guess was to use a list comprehension along the lines of [nato[x] for x in sys.argv[1].lower() if x in nato], but that doesn't allow me to output any non-alphabetic characters. My next guess was to use map, but I couldn't format any lambdas that didn't suffer from the same corner case. Any suggestions? Maybe something with first-class functions? Messing with Array's guts? This seems like it could almost be a Code Golf question, but I feel like I'm just overthinking :)

  • Access Violation When Writing Dynamic 2D Array... Sometimes

    This program is meant to generate a dynamic array, however it gives an access violation error when writing when given certain dimensions. Eg: R = 6, C = 5 crashes, but then R = 5, C = 6 doesn't. In case your wondering, it isn't my homework to "fix" this broken program, this is the method we were taught in class. Also part of my assessment is to use this method, so vectors are out.     Hi I want to find a programmatic solution using C++. I have a 900 files each of 27MB size. (just to inform about the enormity ). Each file has 55K rows and Varying columns. But the header indicates the columns I want to sort the rows in an order w.r.t to a Column Value. I wrote the sorting algorithm for this (definitely my newbie attempts, you may say). This algorithm is working for few numbers, but fails for larger numbers.     I am building a class to send API calls to Rapidshare and return the results of said call.     This is the first time I've used interceptors with the fluent registration and I'm missing something. With the following registration, I can resolve an IProcessingStep, and it's a proxy class and the interceptor is in the __interceptors array, but for some reason, the interceptor is not called. The first column of the matrix is an id (with possibly duplicated entries) and the 2nd column is some value.   • Extracting [] elements from form collection - mvc - should use icollection but have mix of types

    hi there. have looked at Phil Haacks project on books at http://haacked.com/archive/2008/10/23/model-binding-to-a-list.aspx which has been useful, but I have a mix of data types. I use a modelview so that i can have a mix of objects, in this case: Order (ie order.id, order.date etc), Customer, SoilSamplingOrder and a list of SoilSamplingSubJobs which is like this [0].id, [0].field, [1].id, [1].field etc Perhaps I should be using ICollection instead of List? I had problems getting UpdateModel to work so I used an extract from collection method. the first 4 method calls : orderRepository.FindOrder(id); etc give the model the original to be edited. but after this point i'm a little lost in how to update the subjobs. I hope i have delineated enough to make sense of the problem.   • Getting data from array of DataSet objects returned from web service

    I have a web service that I want to access when it is added as a web reference to my C# project. A particular method in the web service takes a SQL query string and returns the results of the query as a custom type. When I add the web service reference, the method shows up as returning DataSet[] instead of the custom type. This is fine provided I can still somehow access the data returned from the query within those DataSet objects. I ran a particular query that should return 6 rows; I got back a DataSet[] array with 6 elements. However, when I iterate over those DataSet objects, none of them has any tables (via the Tables property on the DataSet). What gives? Where is my data? The web service is tested and works when I use it as a data source in a Report Builder 2.0 report. I am able to send an XML SOAP query to the web service and get back XML results containing my data.
