  • How to install software on Amazon EC2 Windows instance?

    I've never used Amazon EC2 - I am thinking to test a few instances for running intensive computation processes I have a requirement for rather than buying real hardware. I am given to understand the thing is quite easy to setup - but I have no clue of how it actually works. Can I upload disc images and install just any software as on any other virtual machine or is there any significant difference? Any help appreciated!

    So I'm a dual-booter. I'm looking for an easy way to keep up-to-date symlinks in my Linux home folder pointing to every file and folder in the root of Windows personal directory. So, say I have foo.txt and bar.txt in C:\Windows\Documents and Settings\Nathaniel. I want symlinks of those files to automatically be made in /home/nathaniel/ (while I'm running Linux, of course).

Regrettably, this is far from easy to do without introducing a lot of overhead; ideally, the whole encryption process should done automatically.     I"m running OS X 10.6.8 and I would like to use gparted to resize a partition on my SD card by following instructions on this page: http://mitchtech.net/easy-gui-install-re-partition-raspberry-pi-on-ubuntu/ However, it appears like gparted is suitable only for linux environment. I was wondering what alternatives do I have on os x to achieve increasing the size of the partition on my SD card? Would appreciate all / any advice.

  • How can I open Outlook Calendar to a 2-3 week view by default?

    I use Outlook 2007, and I like to view my calendar 2 (or sometimes 3) weeks at a time. Its relatively easy to do, by dragging my mouse across several weeks in the mini calendar. BUT... it never stays that way. As soon as I change to Contacts and back to Calendar, the view resets to showing a whole month. Any ideas about how to change to default view?

    The Windows 7 menu item highlight effect is quite subtle - on my machine, menu items go from light grey to having a light blue shading. This makes it quite hard to tell at a glance which exact menu item is highlighted at any one time.   • How can I easily test connectivity to external sources with WinHTTP?

    I've got an server application that uses Winhttp to fetch information from an external source. Occasionally, I'll need to troubleshoot connectivity issues and I'd like an easy way to test connections through winHTTP (on the off-chance that there's something that is specifically impeding winHTTP and not other unrelated connectivity commands like telnet). Does IE use WinHTTP? If not, are there any tools (preferably already integrated into Windows) that I can use? Occasionally I'll use IE but I'm not sure if that's quite the same.

  • Server 2012, ADFS 2.1, and Office 365

    Has anyone gotten ADFS 2.1 on Server 2012 working with o365 SSO? I have it working up to a point, I tweaked the registry to allow the powershell commands to run, user accounts syncs fine. Even the remote connectivity analyzer shows no errors. But SSO itself does not seem to be passing the credentials correctly. Microsoft claims that ADFS 2.1 is not supported to work with o365, but I'm just being stubborn and not giving up that easy.

    I'm trying to find a list of all sql servers on the network using the osql -L command in the command prompt. This command only works when SQLServer is installed on the computer that I'm working on. Is there any way to run this command when SQLServer is not installed on that particular computer, but is installed somewhere on the network? Thank you! EDIT: I'm writing a program in java, so the easy enumerations that you can do in the .NET framework won't work for me.

After working a bit lately with Netgears ReadyNAS's units, I have become really spoiled with how easy it was to set up network shares and giving a specific user different levels of network access to a specific share (forbidden access, read, read/write).   • Centralized logging for JBoss / log4j? [closed]

    Does anyone have advice or a pointer to articles on how to centralize logs in JBoss? JBoss will log to syslog, which makes it easy, but doing so breaks multi line debug messages (and Jboss loves dropping exception stack traces in the logs). I can rsync the logs, but that isn't realtime. Log4j has appenders for TCP and multicast sockets, so it seems like something probably exists for streaming logs, but I haven't found a receiver for the data. Thanks

    We have two lists of users (about 1000 each) that we need to add to groups in Active Directory (Windows Server 2003...one list will be in one group, one in the other). All the users currently exist in the directory, but we just need to assign them properly. Is there an easy way to do this without scripting? If not, can it be scripted with Ruby, Perl or Python?
