    I am currently working with the jQuery validation plugin, and I want to show only one error-message before the form itself.   • Syntax error results in blank page

    I am new to wicket and trying to get some things working. One thing that annoys me a lot is that I get a blank (0 chars of text) page whenever there is a syntax error on a page. Striped down example: Test.html header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html Test.java public class Test extends WebPage { public Test() { add(new Label("msgTest", "Hello, World!")); } } This will output the page as expected. Now, lets introduce an error: header stuff: doctype ... html ... head ... body ... <span wicket:id="msgTest2" id="message">MSG</span> footer stuff: /body ... /html I changed the label-id to something different then what the source-file expects. If I run this code I get the already mentioned blank page. However, for every request to a page with such a syntax error I get an error report in the log-file of around 1000+ lines. This error-report is basically just wicket-generated html of a page which describes the error. This makes me wonder why wicket isn't displaying the error-stuff instead of the blank page. I'm not very experienced with wicket but to me it somehow looks like wicket is having trouble rendering its own error-page code. It would be nice to know how one goes about finding syntax-errors with wicket. Reading through a 1000+ line error-report for a small error like a misplaced character seems a bit tedious.   • Server Crash Diagnosis...Are there any 'black box recorder' style programs available.

    My redhat server is crashing every three weeks or so at 4:15am ish on Sunday mornings. (well it was sundays the last two have been Thursday mornings at 4:15ish) Looking at the logs (mysql, httpd, messages) there are no clues as to why. They just seem to stop. I ran a little script to take memory readings every 15 minutes and it too stops (with normal readings) at this time. The server is remote at a provider so I can only access it via the web. I use Plesk. It appears to be a set job or something that is causing the issue. I can see nothing in crontab. So my question is...has anyone else had this and can offer advice? Failing that. Does any one know of a way to get more detailed logging than that offered by the messages file? I was thinking of a black box style recording program or maybe something as simple as an option somewhere to increase the level of reporting in the messages log. Thanks

    One of our web-projects was hacked. Malefactor changed some template files in project and 1 core file of the web-framework (it's one of the famous php-frameworks). We found all corrupted files by git and reverted them. So now I need to find the weak point. With high probability we can say, that it's not the ftp or ssh password abduction. The support specialist of hosting provider (after logs analysis) said that it was the security hole in our code. My questions: 1) What tools should I use, to review access and error logs of Apache? (Our server distro is Debian). 2) Can you write tips of suspicious lines detection in logs? Maybe tutorials or primers of some useful regexps or techniques? 3) How to separate "normal user behavior" from suspicious in logs. 4) Is there any way to preventing attacks in Apache?     I upgraded to 14.04 and now gstreamer is not working. What I am trying to accomplish is to hear the audio input on my computer coming from a ham radio. This is the command that I am using: gst-launch pulserc ! pulseink. This is the error message that I am receiving: ERROR: pipeline could not be constructed: no element "pulserc". I am wondering if I should purge gstreamer, or if there is another command that I should put it. Thank you again everyone for all of your help.

    My web hosting company recently replaced suPHP with fcgi on my dedicated server because I needed opcode functionality. Since then I see loads of 500 errors in apache error and php error log is empty. I have no way to figure out whats the root cause. One reason I found out was time out so my hosting company changed FcgidConnectTimeout and FcgidIOTimeout to a value of 200. I believe there are no more timeout errors in my php script. My question is how do I capture PHP error before 500 internal server error page display to user?   • How to log out with a command in a gnome-less environment?

    I installed various window managers (Awesome, dwm, etc.) from which I am not able to log out back to the login screen (gnome-session) in order to switch to another window manager. I need to reboot to do that, which is a waste of time. Question How can you log out via the terminal? didn't work.. dbus-send --session --type=method_call --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager /org/gnome/SessionManager org.gnome.SessionManager.Logout uint32:1 ..neither did this: gnome-session-save --force-logout ..nor that: gnome-session-quit --force-logout they all returned: Failed to call logout: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files Is there a quick way to log out back into Gnome's session manager from a non-Gnome desktop manager using a terminal emulator? I know that CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE can be configured to restart X, but I'm looking for the easiest way to log out.

    I have Ubuntu 10 as the guest OS on a Windows 7 machine. I have been trying to setup shares through VirtualBox, but nothing is working. First, I create the share in VirtualBox and point it to a Windows folder. Then I try to mount the drive in Linux, but I keep getting /sbin/mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: Protocol error I have read so many solutions to this, but none seem to work. I have tried: Using the mount.vboxsf syntax Reinstalling VBox additions Rebooting Enabling and trying as root account Any other ideas? In case I am doing something dumb, here are more details: I made a share called "Test" in VBox Shared folders. Then I made a directory in ubuntu named "test2". Then I tried to execute this command: sudo mount -t vboxsf Test /mnt/test2 Thank you!

    The initial install on my laptop was Windows 7. I installed Wubi on Sunday - the install seemed fine. I was able to log in and use both Ubuntu and Windows. On Monday I started receiving the following error in Windows: windows cannot access the specified device path or file This occurs on every link I click on - essentially rendering Windows unusable. I do not experience the same problem when Windows is started up in safe mode. I have tried numerous virus scans (Malware bytes, Avg, AdAware) and have removed various trojans etc. Windows is still unusable. Ubuntu seems fine so far. My question is, can this error be attributed to the Wubi install?

  • What are these isolated resource requests in Apache's access_log?

    I was looking at my Apache access log and came across some strange requests. A single IP address will access several resources (mostly css style sheets and images), but no actual pages. Sometimes they are requesting a resource that no longer exists on the server, or one that is still under the web root but no longer used (e.g. a resource in an old WordPress theme). Also: The requests list no referrer I get no useful information on the IP address by looking it up There doesn't seem to be any pattern among the IP addresses that are making these requests (e.g. different countries) Are these just links from a stale cache somewhere? Could it be a sign of an attack of some sort? Here is a typical example: GET /wp-content/themes/my-theme/images/old-image.gif HTTP/1.1" 500 809 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible;)" This was one of about 10 similar requests, some for existing resources, some for older resources. There is no other sign of this IP address in access_log. Note the internal server error, which is a topic for a different thread. What I'm asking here is where would isolated requests like this come from?

I had earlier upgraded to ubuntu 12.04 from ubuntu 11.10. And encountered the same issue. Hence i uninstalled the OS and reinstalled using wubi.     I have downgrade my xorg drivers, so I can hibernate and stand by my ubuntu smoothly. However, in some case, there's a problem. My ubuntu get hang. When I tried to switch to console mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1), then I cannot login. The system always reply with an error whenever I tried to press a key. When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del to perform a softreset, here what's it said: [80141.320122] end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 193687181 init: control-alt-delete main process (5660) terminated with status 2. This error is not even recorded in syslog. I guess this should be a problem with my hard disk since it said something about a bad sector. Exactly, what kind of error is this?

  • Intermittent FTP login issues (Microsoft IIS FTP Service)

    I've got a somewhat weird problem which I'm not sure how to troubleshoot. We have a FTP running on a Windows Server 2003 machine using the IIS FTP Service, this is for our clients and is configured with IP-restrictions. However, now ONE of the clients starts complaining that they can't log in to the server from time to time. This is just ONE of 10+ clients that have this issue, which makes me think it's a problem on their side. Just to be on the safe side I had a peek into the FTP logs and found something strange. Whenever succeed in loggin in this is what I can find in the logs: nnn.nnn.nnn.70, userxxx, 2012-06-11, 09:22:32, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 331, 0, [191747]USER, userxxx, -, nnn.nnn.nnn.70, userxxx, 2012-06-11, 09:22:32, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 230, 0, [191747]PASS, -, -, However, if the login fails I see the following events: nnn.nnn.nnn.70, userxxx, 2012-06-11, 09:16:33, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 331, 0, [191739]USER, userxxx, -, nnn.nnn.nnn.70, -, 2012-06-11, 09:16:33, MSFTPSVC1, SERVERNAME, nnn.nn.nn.11, 0, 0, 0, 530, 1326, [191739]PASS, -, -, When you look at the event where the clients sends the PASS in the successful login it seems to know that it is infact "userxxx" that is coupled to that PASS, but when it fails it seems to be lost since user in the PASS event is set to "-".   • Improve Log Exceptions

    I am planning to use log4net in a new web project. In my experience, I see how big the log table can get, also I notice that errors or exceptions are repeated. For instance, I just query a log table that have more than 132.000 records, and I using distinct and found that only 2.500 records are unique (~2%), the others (~98%) are just duplicates. so, I came up with this idea to improve logging. Having a couple of new columns: counter and updated_dt, that are updated every time try to insert same record. If want to track the user that cause the exception, need to create a user_log or log_user table, to map N-N relationship. Create this model may made the system slow and inefficient trying to compare all these long text... Here the trick, we should also has a hash column of binary of 16 or 32, that hash the message and the exception, and configure an index on it. We can use HASHBYTES to help us. I am not an expert in DB, but I think that will made the faster way to locate a similar record. And because hashing doesn't guarantee uniqueness, will help to locale those similar record much faster and later compare by message or exception directly to make sure that are unique. This is a theoretical/practical solution, but will it work or bring more complexity? what aspects I am leaving out or what other considerations need to have? the trigger will do the job of insert or update, but is the trigger the best way to do it?

It need to return as error message back to php. The stored procedure should return as abc,def,xyz are duplicate. I tried something like this. This will not work it has more than 1 set of duplicate records.     I was trying to install a Linux OS to an partition alongside Windows 8 and Ubuntu, but I got confused and I just canceled the installation. Then I booted into Windows 8 and deleted the 20GB partition that I created. When I restarted the computer I got stuck at the following error message: error: no such partition grub rescue> I don't know what to do. I do not want to lose any data. Please help!   • Learning by doing (and programming by trial and error)

    How do you learn a new platform/toolkit while producing working code and keeping your codebase clean? When I know what I can do with the underlying platform and toolkit, I usually do this: I create a new branch (with GIT, in my case) I write a few unit tests (with JUnit, for example) I write my code until it passes my tests So far, so good. The problem is that very often I do not know what I can do with the toolkit because it is brand new to me. I work as a consulant so I cannot have my preferred language/platform/toolkit. I have to cope with whatever the customer uses for the task at hand. Most often, I have to deal (often in a hurry) with a large toolkit that I know very little so I'm forced to "learn by doing" (actually, programming by "trial and error") and this makes me anxious. Please note that, at some point in the learning process, usually I already have: read one or more five-stars books followed one or more web tutorials (writing working code a line at a time) created a couple of small experimental projects with my IDE (IntelliJ IDEA, at the moment. I use Eclipse, Netbeans and others, as well.) Despite all my efforts, at this point usually I can just have a coarse understanding of the platform/toolkit I have to use. I cannot yet grasp each and every detail. This means that each and every new feature that involves some data preparation and some non-trivial algorithm is a pain to implement and requires a lot of trial-and-error. Unfortunately, working by trial-and-error is neither safe nor easy. Actually, this is the phase that makes me most anxious: experimenting with a new toolkit while producing working code and keeping my codebase clean. Usually, at this stage I cannot use the Eclipse Scrapbook because the code I have to write is already too large and complex for this small tool. In the same way, I cannot use any more an indipendent small project for my experiments because I need to try the new code in place. I can just write my code in place and rely on GIT for a safe bail-out. This makes me anxious because this kind of intertwined, half-ripe code can rapidly become incredibly hard to manage. How do you face this phase of the development process? How do you learn-by-doing without making a mess of your codebase? Any tips&tricks, best practice or something like that?
