• New PC, Keyboard and OS and I can't do a Screen Image Capture

  I just got a new PC, Windows 7 Ultimate with a: fancy MS keyboard. I am puzzled why ALT+PRTSCN keyboard combo seems to put nothing on my keyboard. No lights are on the keybd (SCROLL LOCK, SHIFT, etc)-yet, when I paste into Word Pad or Paint or some program that should be able to hande images, no image is on the clipboard. Any idea what to try? This is embarrassing...

• Dell E6400 Display issue - "doubling up" intermittently

  I've got a Dell E6400 It's suddenly developed an intermittent fault with the display Every now and again, it seems to boot up with "double vision" By that I mean, its split horizontally, with each half showing the same thing, but with low resolution, and looks grainy - if that makes sense (I will try to get a couple of pictures if I can) I haven't changed any hardware or anything. I have re-built windows, to see if that fixed the problem, it didn't. I've upgraded the BIOS to see if that would help, still same problem. I'm out of ideas :-(

• Sharepoint database connection issue after upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2

  I took a backup of all our Sharepoint WSS 3.0 databases and restored them to a new Windows 2008 R2 server. The new SQL server has the same name and IP address as the old one. The only difference between the two is the new one has SQL 2008 R2 and the old one has SQL 2005. When I navigate to the sharepoint url I get this error: Cannot connect to the configuration database. I checked the logs at this location: "%commonprogramfiles%/Microsoft Shared/web server extensions/12/Logs" and found this error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. Any ideas?

• Share one monitor with another user and display their screen as well

  My housemate and I just started playing the original RollerCoaster Tycoon again - what a nostalgia trip! Anyways, we both have two monitors, and would like to view the other's game on the secondary monitor while playing, since we're in different rooms. VNC-like applications sorta work, but they require two separate instances running (one to share each direction), and as a whole are rather slow and clumsy. We don't need any remote control at all, just viewing. I'm using XP, he Win7. We could probably get it to run through some means in Linux, if necessary.

• After enabling raid0, blue screen of death

  Hi! Im trying to get a raid0 setup going. I have a 750 gb hdd with the OS on it and two 80gb HDD. For right now, I just want to raid0 on the two 80Gb hdd. When I enable raid in my Bios, Win7 has a BSOD during boot. As far as I understand I need to install raid drivers. However how can I do this? The win7 DVD doesnt seem to have a driver install option. Any suggestions? Thanks EDIT: I saw that there was as seperate setting for the 4th and 5th sata ports. So I pluged in my OS drive into there and left it on IDE. Still didnt work though, am I miss understanding that idealogy?

• Issue with multiple bridging for KVM hosts

  I'm using KVM and libvirt on my host (Debian lenny) + 2 bridges per guest (one for mgmt, one for public traffic). That setup isn't stable at all, sometimes I can do pings to a management ip, sometimes not. I don't know if my bridging paramateres are correct, could you check ? or if there is anything wrong ... Please also note that interface on guest doesn't flap and that I got not logs on my host. • What's the issue with this Samba setup?

  I asked this on superuser, but I realized that may be the wrong place. I am duplicating the question here, I hope this is allowed. I am trying to share a directory through samba. In smb.conf I have the following: [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP security = user passdb backend = tdbsam netbios name = <hostname> [share_name] path = </path/to/share> writable = yes valid users = <username> <username>, the user in question, is the owner of directory /path/to/share. Permissions on the directory are 755. If I try to connect from another computer, the connection attempt is unsuccessful (I assume it's an authentication error, because it re-prompts me for the password). The client requires a domain name for authentication, I tried both WORKGROUP and the hostname/netbios name of the samba server. Samba logs on the server have no mention of the failed connection attempt. Firewall on the server is down. What am I doing wrong? Update: have since run smbpasswd -a <username> and now I am getting a clear error message, "not enough permissions to view contents of share".

• Solaris 10 opencsw git package issue with bitbucket git hosting

  Has anyone tried using `git' from opencsw package in order to work with bitbucket source hosting service (under solaris10)? I tried to use git as the bitbucket documentation explains, and - under Debian GNU/Linux, it worked flawlessly as described, but - under Solaris 10, I got Authentication Failed message. I even tried to run truss to see anything is suspicious but could not find any smoking gun under solaris why it failed. ldd git-binary didnd't show anything suspicious either (except for the libcrypt library which could be a suspicious to think about export restrictions. Have they shipped incompatible version? BUT since the password is typed into https: connection, I suspect it is only a matter of web-level cryptography and should be universal these days.) I am now tempted to compile git suite under solaris 10, but I did find people who seem to be using git with bitbucket under solaris 10 and am wondering what could be wrong.

  I am assembling a custom PC. The configuration is below: Motherboard: Supermicro X8SIL-F Processor: Intel Xeon 3430 Power Supply: Enermax Modu82+ 625W. Memory: Kingston KVR1333D3LQ8R9S/8GEC 8GBx1 installed in DimmA1 This power switch: Frozen CPU switch When I turn on the PSU, the motherboard tries to start itself before I even push the power switch. The following happens: The CPU fan rotates like once or twice, and then stops. After 1-2 seconds, the CPU fan tries to rotate again and stops after about one or two rotations. Finally, after another 1-2 seconds, it again starts and this time it rotates for about 3-4 seconds before stopping. If I pull out the Power switch, and turn on the PSU, again the MB turns on itself and the following happens: The CPU fan rotates like once or twice, and then stops. After 1-2 seconds, the CPU fan tries to rotate again and stops after about one or two rotations. Finally, after another 1-2 seconds, it again starts and the system boots properly I am sure there is nothing wrong with any of the components, because I have two sets of identical components (2 MBs, 2 CPUs, 2 PSUs, 2 switches and so on). And both of the systems show the same symptoms. Why is the MB booting up by itself? Why does it fail to boot when the Power Switch is installed? Is something wrong with the type of Power Switch I am using? PS: the power switch is installed correctly, I have double checked the MB manual to make sure its connecting the right pins.

• PHP 5.4.9 Mysqli issue

  On Ubuntu 12.04 server I had PHP 5.4.9 installed from the source: ./configure --prefix=/etc/php --with-apxs2=/etc/apache2/bin/apxs --with-config-file-path=/etc/php --with-config-file-scan-dir=/etc/php/conf.d --with-libxml-dir=/usr/local/libxml2 --with-xsl=/usr/local/libxslt --with-mysql --with-zlib --with-pdo-mysql --enable-calendar --with-gd --with-iconv-dir --enable-mbstring --enable-soap --enable-sockets --enable-zip --with-curl --with-openssl --with-kerberos --with-tidy' Then, using apt-get, I had mysql server and phpMyAdmin installed. Unfortunatelly phpMyAdmin keep saying that 'mysqli' and 'mcrypt' not installed. php -m | grep mysqli just confirms it. So I tried to install mysqli with "apt-get install php5-mysqli", but just got message to do it by means of "php5-mysqlnd" or "php5-mysql". Even though they are already installed (according to phpinfo()) I tried - doesn't work. However, in php.ini, there's mysqli staff like "extension=php_mysqli.dll", but no "extension=mysqli.so". And block [MySQLi] with some uncommented settings also present. Since this is my first attempt to build php from source I reckon I did some silly mistake. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Apache Virtual host (SSL) Doc Root issue

  I am having issues with the SSL document root of my vhosts configuration. Http sees to work fine and navigates to the root directory and publishes the page fine - DocumentRoot /var/www/html/websites/ssl.domain.co.uk/ (as specified in my vhost config) However, https seems to be looking for files in the main apache document root found further up the httpd.conf file, and is not being overwritten by the vhost config. (I assume that vhost config does overwrite the default doc root?). DocumentRoot: The directory out of which you will serve your documents. By default, all requests are taken from this directory, but symbolic links and aliases may be used to point to other locations. • TeamViewer: How to disable color dithering for low-bit-depth screen settings

  I am using Terminal Services and TeamViewer a lot to access other computers, partly over slow networks. The problem described below is not affected by which of the two remote access services I am using. When accessing Windows 7 Professional machines, a great deal of text is hard to read as the background is dithered. Even for exactly the same colors, Windows 2003 does not seem to dither at all, but to choose the closest available color. I strongly prefer the latter, as I don't care for the exact colors, I just want to be able to read easily. I am not sure whether this is operating system-related. The programs on the remote systems do not allow me to change the color choices for the various backgrounds to anything sane. Is there a way to disable this color dithering using some target operating system setting that will do the trick for both Terminal Services and TeamViewer?

• Cisco 3560+ipservices -- IGMP snooping issue with TTL=1

  I've got a C3560 with Enhanced (IPSERVICES) image, routing multicast between its VLANs with no external multicast router. It's serving a test environment where developers may generate multicast traffic on arbitrary addresses. Everything is working fine except when someone sends out multicast traffic with TTL=1, in which case the multicast packet suppression fails and the traffic is broadcast to all members of the VLAN. It looks to me like because the TTL is 1, the multicast routing subsystem doesn't see the packets, so it doesn't create a mroute table entry. If I send out packets with TTL=2 briefly, then switch to TTL=1 packets, they are filtered correctly until the mroute entry expires. My question: is there some trick to getting the switch to filter the TTL=1 packets, or am I out of luck? Below are the relevant parts of the config, with a representative VLAN interface. • Weird (?) issue with Exchange Forwarding

  Hello everyone. Here is the long and short of it: the company I work for was purchased by another company who uses Gmail for domains as their email provider. We use an in house Exchange box. No big deal, I dropped into Active Directoy and created several Contact objects that represented our new email addresses at Gmail. I then went through each employees record and have their mail set to forward to this new address and not deliver locally. So I am forwarding email for me@domain1 to me@domain2 and this works great as long as I don't send an email from me@domain2 to me@domain1. If I log into my personal Gmail account and send an email to me@domain1 the email is properly forwarded to me@domain2. The mail coming from me@domain2 to me@domain1 seems to just get lost in the ether. Have I done something wrong or is this a quark with Exchange? Thanks!

• Python and mod_wsgi path issue

  I have an AIX 6.1 system that I've compiled and installed: Apache 2.2.21 (into /usr/local/mercurial) Python 2.7.2 (into /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/lib) mod_wsgi 3.3 (with the AIX fix #1 described here) Mercurial 2.0 (system-wide) However, when Apache starts, I get the following message in error_log: IOError: invalid Python installation: unable to open /usr/local/bin/lib/python2.7/config/Makefile (No such file or directory) See the problem? bin/lib doesn't exist. /usr/local/lib/python2.7/config/Makefile does exist though. However, I can't figure out where it's getting that path from. • Apache on Mac Mavericks issue

  Trying to run Apache so that I can create a testing server on my mac.When I start apache it starts, but it doesn't run (no connection to local host. Ill upload the unix,you'll see that after starting there is no processes, and I did a check to show you what was running on my port 80... I don't entirely know that means. • My iPhone is stuck at screen with USB cable and iTunes logo

  I just tried updating the iPhone's firmware, and things went haywire. iTunes informed the update had failed and linked me to this page. The iPhone is stuck on the image from the top of that page. I held down the sleep and home buttons until it turned off and turned it back on, and then went through the iPhone's 'restore' mode. It then error'd again and I'm stuck back with the logos on the iPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

• CC.NET + SVN : Server certificate issue

  I am trying to setup Continuous Integration in our office. Being a puny little developer I am facing this supposedly infamous problem: " Source control operation failed: svn: OPTIONS of 'https://trunkURL': Server certificate verification failed: issuer is not trusted" So I tried the following solution - Run CC.NET service (server running as win service) using a domain account (rather than default LOCAL SYSTEMS) and accept cert permanently using command prompt under that user by using svn log/list on the repo. Doesn't help :(.
