  • Only receiving one document at a time from new web server.

    We're trying to move our internal ticketing system from a Microsoft Small Business Server in the server closet to a Rackspace Cloud Server. The install is Fedora 11 LAMP, and should be default out of the box, except for the vhosts appended to the bottom of the httpd.conf. The new server is suffering from crippling load times, and watching the page load in Firebug it's easy to see the problem occurring, but I can't figure out the cause. Here is the [old server] (http://rkuykendall.com/uploads/old.server.png). I was expecting something like this, but a little slower since it was no longer hosted locally. Instead, the [new server] (http://rkuykendall.com/uploads/new.server.png) appears to only serve one file at a time. Here's another example of this [staircase load time effect] (http://rkuykendall.com/uploads/staircase.png) and another very clear example of the [staircase effect] (http://rkuykendall.com/uploads/staircase2.png). I talked to some guys on Freenode #httpd with no luck. I created a duplicate server to play with, and also created a fresh server with Fedora Core 13 and moved over just the database and web files with no luck. Any suggestions?     I am looking for where the default Amazon AMI linux image sets up the privileges for the default ec2-user account. After logging in with this account I can use sudo successfully. Checking via the sudoers file, which I open by running visudo (with no other options) I see a few default settings and permissions for root ALL ALL So ... Where is the permissions for ec2-user assigned? I have not yet tried to add a new permission but ultimately I want to resign ec2-user for systems management tasks and use a non-full root user for administering the applications (stop and start mysql, httpd, edit apache's vhost files, and upload / edit web content under the web root)

    I m learning about server, and I'm configuring nginx mysql php wordpress. the server distro is debian 6. I created a new user and I wish each user is the owner of the site folder /var/www/site.one so I chown -R kossel:kossel site.one my problem is, my wordpress only work if I chmod 644 wp-config.php, which all can read wordpress site suggest that file should be 640. and my question is: when someone open mydomain.com, wordpress has to access wp-config.php file, but which user is it actually using to "read" that file? root? user kossel? anyone else? how can I properly give it permission or owner??

  • Creating an Exchange mail user

    With Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003, I'm trying to set up a mail user. I've tried to create them with the New User procedure avaliable when right clicking the "My server"/Users and "My server"/MyBusiness/Users/SBSUsers folders but then I can't read its mail. I telnet my server to check the accounts at the pop3 port and when I pass it the user and the pass, I just get "-ERR Unspecified error." Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? I can access without problems the users created by my predecessor, and I've compared my user to match his.

    I am using a pre-made social networking script where all user uploads go to site.com/public/user/ How can I make /public/user/ my secondary hard drive so all user uploads are uploaded to my second harddrive and not the primary hard drive.     This is a recurring problem for some reason... Using mysql 5.5, I am simply trying to create a user that can connect to the database remotely, have access to all databases, and create databases. I have created a user using: create user 'dev'@'%' identified by 'abcdefg'; then granted all permissions using: GRANT ALL ON *.* to 'dev'@'192.168.%' IDENTIFIED BY 'abcdefg' WITH GRANT OPTION; and the result is that the user cannot create databases, and can only see information_schema database for some reason.     Although in Windows F5 is the common (though not at all mnemonically appropriate!) keystroke to refresh the contents of a window, I've seen at least two different applications that use F9. One is the much-maligned Lotus Notes (which is actually quite good if you can overlook the abysmal user interface ;), and the other is muCommander. Since Lotus Notes has other non-standard conventions that apparently are borrowed from other places (such as Esc to close a Window) and because it's unlikely to be a source of influence for many applications, I'm betting both apps borrow from a common source (even if indirectly). What is that source? Where does F9 as the refresh key come from?

From what I can understand is that although sudo should use the ubuntu user to execute the commands, it still uses the environment of the root user, which isn't configured to run ruby or unicorn. Does anybody have any experience with this?

  • Revoke directory access for a particular user in Solaris

    I have a need to allow directory access to a particular user on my file system. I want this user to be unable to access any other directory in my file system (initially anyway. It may need access to some directories later). For example: I have a directory called /opt/mydir. - I want my dedicated user to only be able to access this directory, and nothing else. - I want all other users to be able to access this directory as normal. I'm new to Linux and its permissions. I've read a fair bit of background material but I'm a little confused. Is there anyway to revoke permissions to /opt/mydir for a single dedicated user? A possible flawed method would be to only allow access to /opt/mydir and exclude every other user. This won't work because I want all other users to work as normal; accessing the directory. I'm working on Solaris 10. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Very, very simple asp.net page takes forever to load

    I've got a page that couldn't be more simple: <%@ Page Trace="true" %> <html> <head></head> <body> <h1>Hello World</h1> <a href="/OtherPage.aspx"/>Other Page</a> <p><%=DateTime.Now.ToString()%> </body> </html> ... but it takes forever to load. There is no database or web service call to slow it down. The trace command reveals that the time from Begin PreInot to End Render is .000049 seconds, but the page itself takes several seconds to load. It is a new web site I just created for this test, and just has a web.config & two test files. The only thing in the web.config is access control: <authorization><allow users="domain\me" /><deny users = "*"/></authorization> What else could IIS be doing with all of that time?

  • Allow more websocket connections

    I want to load balance my node.js (DerbyJS to be specific) application on a basic Linode (512MB ram). It can probably take more than one process running at once. The querys/database does not concern me as I'm not doing anything intensive. The problem at the moment is that it can only handle up to ~40 websocket connections at once. I would love if I could get that number in the few hundred+ range. I anticipate a lot of traffic on launch due to the fact that it's a highly niche community with an engaged audience, but after it should be fine with just ~20-40 connections at once, which it handles perfectly as of now. I don't mind spending a bit of money for a week or two worth of running, but I also don't want to switch production environments. How can I test the process to see how many instances I am able to run on the box? Will increasing the number of processes increase the amount of websockets I can handle, or is that a limitation of the server's network? I have an old Macbook Pro running Linux sitting next to me that has 2GB ram and a 2.8 Dual Core Processor. Could I use this to handle some of the extra load? I could probably load balance with nginx to its IP. I'm on a FiOS home network. If you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

  • Setup SSH key per user for Git access

    I'm setting up a site that will have multiple development instances running on the same server. Essentially, we'd have dev-a.whatever.com, dev-b.whatever.com, etc.. all running off a single server. I want to give each user some bit of SSH access in order to update and check in code from our Git repository and to manage files via SFTP. However, I want to restrict each user to their own site as well. So if you have access to dev-a.whatever.com, you don't also have access to dev-b.whatever.com and so on. The restriction is already in place if I login via FTP as a certain user, I can't navigate outside my own site -- but if I grant SSH access to that account I can immediately navigate to any file on the server in SFTP. Is RSSH part of the solution? And how can I assign the correct SSH pub key to the corresponding user? We're using BeanStalk for our Git repository management if that makes any impact.

    I have a very basic domain that I use for development. I want to create a GPO that provides users in the Backup Operators group with start/stop permissions for two specific services on a specific server. I have read several articles about this, and they all indicate that this is very easy. Create a GPO, give the user start/stop permissions to the services under Computer Configuration Policies Windows Settings Security Settings System Services, and voila. Done. Not so much, but I have to be doing something wrong. My install is pretty much the default. The domain controller is in the Domain Controllers OU, the Backup Operators group is under Builtin, and I created a user called Backup under Users. I created a GPO and linked it to the Domain Controllers OU. In the GPO I give the Backup user permission to start/stop two specific services on the server. I forced an update with gpupdate. I used Group Policy Results to verify that my GPO is the winning GPO giving the user the permission to start/stop the two services. However, the user is still unable to start/stop the services. I attempted different loopback settings on the GPO to no avail. I'm sort of at a loss here.

Load allows the entity to be loaded lazily, meaning the actual call to the database is made only when properties on the entity being loaded is first accessed. Additionally, if the entity has already been loaded into NHibernate Cache, then the entity is loaded directly from the cache instead of querying the underlying database. ISession.Get<T> instead makes the call to the database, every time it is invoked. With this background, it is obvious that we would prefer ISession.Load<T> over ISession.Get<T> most of the times for performance reasons to avoid making the expensive call to the database. let us consider the impact of using ISession.Load<T> when we are using the Table per Hierarchy implementation of NHibernate. Thus we have base class/ table Animal, there is a derived class named Snake with the Discriminator column being Type which in this case is “Snake”. If we load This Snake entity using the Repository for Animal, we would have a entity loaded, as shown below: public T GetByKey(object key, bool lazy = false) { if (lazy) return CurrentSession.Load<T>(key); return CurrentSession.Get<T>(key); } var tRepo = new NHibernateReadWriteRepository<TPHAnimal>(); var animal = tRepo.GetByKey(new Guid("602DAB56-D1BD-4ECC-B4BB-1C14BF87F47B"), true); var snake = animal as Snake; snake is null As you can see that the animal entity retrieved from the database cannot be cast to Snake even though the entity is actually a snake. The reason being ISession.Load prevents the entity to be cast to Snake and will throw the following exception: System.InvalidCastException :  Message=Unable to cast object of type 'TPHAnimalProxy' to type 'NHibernateChecker.Model.Snake'. Thus we can see that if we lazy load the entity using ISession.Load<TPHAnimal> then we get a TPHAnimalProxy and not a snake. =============================================================== However if do not lazy load the same cast works perfectly fine, this is since we are loading the entity from database and the entity being loaded is not a proxy. I can add the controls, but when trying to use the controls in the added control, they all return null.
