  • 20 lines of code you're working on right now [closed]

    - by Anton Gogolev
    Out of sheer curiosity. Hope none of you NDAs are violated or whatever. Here are mine. I'm currently refactoring a massively coupled webapp. As it usually is, no comments and no documentation whatsoever. if (paymentMethod == PaymentMethod.InAgency ) { EmailController.SendBookingCreateEmails(booking); this.DC.SubmitChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Result", new { id = booking.Id }); } else if (paymentMethod == PaymentMethod.CreditCard) { return RedirectToAction("Pay", new { id = booking.Id }); } else if(paymentMethod == PaymentMethod.MostravelBank || paymentMethod == PaymentMethod.MostravelCallback || paymentMethod == PaymentMethod.MostravelCardCredit || paymentMethod == PaymentMethod.MostravelCourierCash || paymentMethod == PaymentMethod.MostravelCourierPlasticCard) { isExclusive = true; Log.TraceInformation("Started booking for Mostravel. Payment method: {0}", paymentMethod); try { Log.TraceInformation("Sending emails"); EmailController.SendBookingCreateEmailsEx(booking); Log.TraceInformation("Sent emails. Started booking"); MakeRealBooking(booking, DC.MailRuAgencies.First(a => a.Id == MvcApplication.DefaultMailRuAgencyId)); Log.TraceInformation("Finished booking"); } catch(Exception ex) { Log.TraceEvent(TraceEventType.Error, 0, "Error while booking: {0}", ex.ToString()); } What are you working on right now?

  • Prototype Element.remove() not working in IE

    - by Gonçalo Queirós
    Hi there. I have a javascript function that gets a DIV by an ID and makes a clone. Then, removes the original DIV from DOM and inserts the cloned object..Everything works fine, except in IE, because the original DIV is never removed... var loadingDiv = $(Sybil.conf.loadingDivId), loadingClone = loadingDiv.clone(true); console.log($$('.loadingImg')); loadingDiv.remove(); //Insert the loading div on the page again elt.insert({after: loadingClone}); [loadingClone].invoke(func); console.log($$('.loadingImg')); The div also has a span inside with the class "loadingImg", so i just used the console.log to check how many elements there are. FF always prints [span.loadingImg] but IE prints [span.loadingImg,span.loadingImg] on the second console.log... Any idea of what might be happening? Thanks

  • Creating a form with floats, what is the general design when you need 2 columns, p and label?

    - by Blankman
    I want to design a form. The form has 3 sections: user info, shipping and billing. Each section will have 2 columns, so form fields and their labels with be on both the left and right side. What technique should I use? How does this look? <div id="forms"> <div id=contact> <div class=left> <p><label>Firstname<label><input type=text /></p> </div> <div class=right></div> </div> <div id=shipping></div> <div id=billing></div> </div> Any tricks with the css i should know about?

  • C program giving incorrect output for simple math!

    - by DuffDuff
    (all are declared as ints, none are initialized to anything beforehand. I have included math.h and am compiling with -lm) cachesize = atoi(argv[1]); blocksize = atoi(argv[3]); setnumber = (cachesize/blocksize); printf("setnumber: %d\n", setnumber); setbits = (log(setnumber))/(log(2)); printf("sbits: %d\n", setbits); when given cachesize as 1024 and blocksize as 16 the output is as follows: setnumber: 64 sbits: 5 but log(64)/log(2) = 6 ! It works correctly when given cachesize 512 and blocksize 32. I can't seem to win. I'm really hoping that it's a stupid mistake on my part, and I'd be grateful if anyone could point out what it is! Thank you! PS: I posted this in Yahoo Answers first but that was probably silly. Won't be doing that again.

  • Is it OK to put a standard, pure C header #include directive inside a namespace?

    - by mic_e
    I've got a project with a class log in the global namespace (::log). So, naturally, after #include <cmath>, the compiler gives an error message each time I try to instantiate an object of my log class, because <cmath> pollutes the global namespace with lots of three-letter methods, one of them being the logarithm function log(). So there are three possible solutions, each having their unique ugly side-effects. Move the log class to it's own namespace and always access it with it's fully qualified name. I really want to avoid this because the logger should be as convenient as possible to use. Write a mathwrapper.cpp file which is the only file in the project that includes <cmath>, and makes all the required <cmath> functions available through wrappers in a namespace math. I don't want to use this approach because I have to write a wrapper for every single required math function, and it would add additional call penalty (cancelled out partially by the -flto compiler flag) The solution I'm currently considering: Replace #include <cmath> by namespace math { #include "math.h" } and then calculating the logarithm function via math::log(). I have tried it out and it does, indeed, compile, link and run as expected. It does, however, have multiple downsides: It's (obviously) impossible to use <cmath>, because the <cmath> code accesses the functions by their fully qualified names, and it's deprecated to use in C++. I've got a really, really bad feeling about it, like I'm gonna get attacked and eaten alive by raptors. So my question is: Is there any recommendation/convention/etc that forbid putting include directives in namespaces? Could anything go wrong with diferent C standard library implementations (I use glibc), different compilers (I use g++ 4.7, -std=c++11), linking? Have you ever tried doing this? Are there any alternate ways to banish the math functions from the global namespace? I've found several similar questions on stackoverflow, but most were about including other C++ headers, which obviously is a bad idea, and those that weren't made contradictory statements about linking behaviour for C libraries. Also, would it be beneficial to additionally put the #include <math.h> inside extern "C" {}?

  • Concatenate, sort and swap array in Java

    - by sblck
    I am trying to concatenate two arrays into new array, sort in order, and swap two values of index. I'm kind of new to java and only use C before so having a hard time handling an Object. In main method it declares two object arrays IntVector vector = new IntVector(3); and IntVector vector2 = new IntVector(3); I can only do this if the types are int[], but I want to use as an object How should I code the concat, sort, and swap method? public class IntVector { private int[] items_; private int itemCount_; private IntVector(int[] data, int n) { items_ = data.clone(); itemCount_ = n; } public IntVector(int itemSize) { itemCount_ =0; if(itemSize<1) itemSize =10; items_ = new int[itemSize]; } public void push(int value) { if(itemCount_ + 1 >= items_.length) overflow(); items_[itemCount_++] = value; } public void log() { for (int i=0 ; i<itemCount_; ++i) { System.out.print(items_[i]); if(i<itemCount_ -1) System.out.println(); } } public void overflow() { int[] newItems = new int[items_.length * 2]; for(int i=0 ; i<itemCount_; ++i) { newItems[i] = items_[i]; } items_=newItems; } public int getValue(int index) { if(index < 0 || index >= itemCount_) { System.out.println("[error][IntVector][setValue] Incorrect index=" + index); return 0; } return items_[index]; } public void setValue(int index, int value) { if(index < 0 || index >= itemCount_) { System.out.println("[error][IntVector][setValue] Incorrect index=" + index); return ; } items_[index] = value; } public IntVector clone() { return new IntVector(items_, itemCount_); } public IntVector concat() { return null; } public IntVector sort() { return null; } public IntVector swap() { return null; } public static void main(String[] args) { IntVector vector = new IntVector(3); IntVector vector2 = new IntVector(3); vector.push(8); vector.push(200); vector.push(3); vector.push(41); IntVector cloneVector = vector.clone(); vector2.push(110); vector2.push(12); vector2.push(7); vector2.push(141); vector2.push(-32); IntVector concatResult = vector.concat(vector2); IntVector sortResult = concatResult.sort(); IntVector swapResult = sortResult.clone(); //swapResult.swap(1,5); System.out.print("vector : "); vector.log(); System.out.print("\n\ncloneVector : "); cloneVector.log(); System.out.print("\n\nvector2 : "); vector2.log(); System.out.print("\n\nconcatvector : "); concatResult.log(); System.out.print("vector : "); vector.log(); System.out.print("vector : "); vector.log(); } }

  • How to convert a string to variable name

    - by p1xelarchitect
    I'm loading several external JSON files and want to check if they have been successfully cached before the the next screen is displayed. My strategy is to check the name of the array to see if it an object. My code works perfectly when I check only a single array and hard code the array name into my function. My question is: how can i make this dynamic? not dynamic: (this works) $("document").ready(){ checkJSON("nav_items"); } function checkJSON(){ if(typeof nav_items == "object"){ // success... } } dynamic: (this doesn't work) $("document").ready(){ checkJSON("nav_items"); checkJSON("foo_items"); checkJSON("bar_items"); } function checkJSON(item){ if(typeof item == "object"){ // success... } } here is the a larger context of my code: var loadAttempts = 0; var reloadTimer = false; $("document").ready(){ checkJSON("nav_items"); } function checkJSON(item){ loadAttempts++; //if nav_items exists if(typeof nav_items == "object"){ //if a timer is running, kill it if(reloadTimer != false){ clearInterval(reloadTimer); reloadTimer = false; } console.log("found!!"); console.log(nav_items[1]); loadAttempts = 0; //reset // load next screen.... } //if nav_items does not yet exist, try 5 times, then give up! else { //set a timer if(reloadTimer == false){ reloadTimer = setInterval(function(){checkJSON(nav_items)},300); console.log(item + " not found. Attempts: " + loadAttempts ); } else { if(loadAttempts <= 5){ console.log(item + " not found. Attempts: " + loadAttempts ); } else { clearInterval(reloadTimer); reloadTimer = false; console.log("Giving up on " + item + "!!"); } } } }

  • How to detect invalid route and trigger function in Backbone.Controller

  • Improved technique to store a filename in a variable?

    - by SDGuero
    Greetings, I need to store the filename of a log into a variable so my script can perform some checks on the daily log files. These logs always have a different name because they have a timestamp in the name. Currently I'm using a hodge podged method that pipes an ls command to sed, sort, cut, and tail in order to get the name out. CRON_LOG=$(ls -1 $LOGS_DIR/fetch_cron_{true,false}_$CRON_DATE*.log 2> /dev/null | sed 's/^[^0-9][^0-9]*\([0-9][0-9]*\).*/\1 &/' | sort -n | cut -d ' ' -f2- | tail -1 ) UPDATE: $CRON_DATE is supplied as an argument to the script. It is the date (to the day) that the log was created on. Sometimes multiple logs will exist for the same day so I want this to get the most recent one. A typical filename is fetch_cron_false_031810090452.log I'm pretty sure I kluged this together from some stuff I found google a few months ago. it works now but I'm not really happy with the technique. I have some ideas about how to do this better but I have had great success on this site before and thought it might be best to refer to the stackoverflow gods first. All answers are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ryan

  • Apache - Restrict to IP not working.

    Hi all, I'm trying to setup a simple logging framework in my shell scripts. For this I'd like to define a "log" function callable as log "LEVEL" $message Where the message is a variable to which I have previously redirected the outputs of executed commands. My trouble is that I get errors with the following {message=command 2&3 1&3 3&-} &3 log "INFO" $message There's something wrong isn't there? TIA

  • Check for element equality in an animation function.

    - by Zardoz
    I have the the below code and would expect that in the first pass of the fadeTo function "yes" would be printed as those first two console logs tell me it is the same element. But it doesn't recognize them as equal. What do I miss here? var tds = self.element.find("td:nth-child(" + (columnIndex + 1) + ")"); tds.fadeTo(options.columnFadeOutTime, 0, function() { window.console.log(tds.first()); window.console.log($(this)); if ($(this) == tds.first()) { window.console.log("yes"); } else { window.console.log("no"); } }

  • Reference an object, based on a variable with it's name in it

    - by James G
    I'm looking for a way to reference an object, based on a variable with it's name in it. I know I can do this for properties and sub properties: var req = {body: {jobID: 12}}; console.log(req.body.jobID); //12 var subProperty = "jobID"; console.log(req.body[subProperty ]); //12 var property = "body"; console.log(req[property][subProperty]); //12 is it possible for the object itself? var req = {body: {jobID: 12}}; var object = "req"; var property = "body"; var subProperty = "jobID"; console.log([object][property][subProperty]); //12 or console.log(this[object][property][subProperty]); //12 Note: I'm doing this in node.js not a browser. Here is an exert from the function: if(action.render){ res.render(action.render,renderData); }else if(action.redirect){ if(action.redirect.args){ var args = action.redirect.args; res.redirect(action.redirect.path+req[args[0]][args[1]]); }else{ res.redirect(action.redirect.path); } } I could work around it by changing it to this, but I was looking for something more dynamic. if(action.render){ res.render(action.render,renderData); }else if(action.redirect){ if(action.redirect.args){ var args = action.redirect.args; if(args[0]==="req"){ res.redirect(action.redirect.path+req[args[1]][args[2]]); }else if(args[0]==="rows"){ rows.redirect(action.redirect.path+rows[args[1]][args[2]]); } }else{ res.redirect(action.redirect.path); } }

  • Review of a locked part of an function in C#.NET

    - by Lieven Cardoen
    Is this piece of code where I lock a part of the function correct? Or can it have use drawbacks when multiple sessions ask concurrently for the same Exam? Purpose is that client that first asks for the Exam will assemble it, all next clients will get the cached version. public Exam GetExamByExamDto(ExamDTO examDto, int languageId) { Log.Warn("GetExamByExamDto"); lock (LockString) { if (!ContainsExam(examDto.id, languageId)) { Log.Warn("Assembling ExamDto"); var examAssembler = new ExamAssembler(); var exam = examAssembler.createExam(examDto); if (AddToCache(exam)) { _examDictionary.Add(examDto.id + "_" + languageId, exam); } Log.Warn("Returning non cached ExamDto"); return exam; } } Log.Warn("Returning cached ExamDto"); return _examDictionary[examDto.id + "_" + languageId]; } I have a feeling that this isn't the way to do it.

  • implementing user tracking (logging) in Rails 3

    - by seth.vargo
    Hi, I'm creating a Rails application in which logging individual user actions is vital. Every time a user clicks a url, I want to log the action along with all parameters. Here is my current implementation: class CreateActivityLogs < ActiveRecord::Migration create_table :activity_logs do |t| t.references :user t.string :ip_address t.string :referring_url t.string :current_url t.text :params t.text :action t.timestamps end end   class ActivityLog < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end In a controller, I'd like to be able to do something like the following: ... ActivityLog::log @user.id, params, 'did foo with bar' ... I'd like to have the ActivityLog::log method automatically get the IP address, referring url, and current url (I know how to do this already) and create a new record in the table. So, my questions are: How do I do this? How do I use ActivityLog without having to create an instance everytime I want to log? Is this the best way? Some people have argued for a flat-file log for this kind of logging - however, I want admins to be able to see a user's activity in the backend as well, so I thought a database solution may be better?

  • JS Split ( ) to check if substring exists in Array

    - by Javacadabra
    I have an array of products that are stored as Strings in this format productname:quantity. The issue I am running into is that if a user adds one product with a quantity of x it is inserted into the array as it should. However, if they then decide to add more of a particular product a new entry is made into the array instead of checking if the product already exists and adjusting the quantity to the new value. oldQty + newQty. For example this is my array: ["CBL202659/A:1","OUTER9:1","PALLET CARDS:1"] If I add another PALLET CARDS product it creates a new entry rather than updating the quantity of the existing item to 2. New array ["CBL202659/A:1","OUTER9:1","PALLET CARDS:1","PALLET CARDS:1"] I would like the array to end up like this: - updating the quantity ["CBL202659/A:1","OUTER9:1","PALLET CARDS:2"] Currently this is my code: I use the split() method to seperate the String where a colon occurs and store the product name and quantity in two seperate variables. $(".orderBtn").click(function(event){ //Show the order Box $(".order-alert").show(); event.preventDefault(); //Create the Array var productArray = []; //Get reference to the product clicked var stockCode = $(this).closest('li').find('.stock_code').html(); //Get reference to the quantity selected var quantity = $(this).closest('li').find('.order_amount').val(); var item = stockCode + ":" + quantity; var itemCheck = stockCode + ":"; if(quantity == 0){ console.log("Quantity must be greater than 0") }else{ //If no Cookie exists, create one and add the Array if ($.cookie('order_cookie') === undefined) { console.log("CREATE NEW COOKIE"); //Add items to Array productArray.push(item); //Add Array to Cookie $.cookie('order_cookie', JSON.stringify(productArray), { expires: 1, path: '/' }); //If the Cookie already exists do this } else { productArray = JSON.parse($.cookie('order_cookie'));//get ref to array if(productArray.indexOf(itemCheck)!= -1){//It exists so update qty console.log("EXISTS... updating item: " + itemCheck); //var index = productArray.indexOf(item); //var update = productArray[index].split(":"); //var name = update[0]; //var oldQty = update[1]; //console.log(name + ":" + oldQty); //productArray[index] = item; }else{//It does not exist, so add to array console.log("Does not exist... adding new item: " + item); //Append items onto the Array productArray.push(item); } //Update the Cookie $.cookie('order_cookie', JSON.stringify(productArray), { expires: 1, path: '/' }); console.log($.cookie('order_cookie')); } //Display the number of items in the Array in the Order Box $('#order_counter').html(productArray.length); } }); I suppose the real question I am asking here, is if it is possible to search the array for a subString - containing productname: ??

  • What language should I use to parse a lot of text?

    - by BicMan
    My company's proprietary software generates a log file that is much easier to use if it is parsed. The log parser we all use was written by another employee as a side project, and it has horrible performance. These log files can grow to 10s of megabytes very quickly, and the parser we currently use has issues if a log file is bigger than 1 megabyte. So, I want to write a program that can parse this massive amount of text in the shortest amount of time possible. We use Windows exclusively, so running on Windows is a must. Our current implementation runs on a local web server, and I'm convinced that running it as an application would have to be faster. All suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.

  • Python - How can I make this code asynchronous?

    - by dave
    Here's some code that illustrates my problem: def blocking1(): while True: yield 'first blocking function example' def blocking2(): while True: yield 'second blocking function example' for i in blocking1(): print 'this will be shown' for i in blocking2(): print 'this will not be shown' I have two functions which contain while True loops. These will yield data which I will then log somewhere (most likely, to an sqlite database). I've been playing around with threading and have gotten it working. However, I don't really like it... What I would like to do is make my blocking functions asynchronous. Something like: def blocking1(callback): while True: callback('first blocking function example') def blocking2(callback): while True: callback('second blocking function example') def log(data): print data blocking1(log) blocking2(log) How can I achieve this in Python? I've seen the standard library comes with asyncore and the big name in this game is Twisted but both of these seem to be used for socket IO. How can I async my non-socket related, blocking functions?

  • Select distinct ... inner join vs. select ... where id in (...)

    - by Tonio
    I'm trying to create a subset of a table (as a materialized view), defined as those records which have a matching record in another materialized view. For example, let's say I have a Users table with user_id and name columns, and a Log table, with entry_id, user_id, activity, and timestamp columns. First I create a materialized view of the Log table, selecting only those rows with timestamp some_date. Now I want a materliazed view of the Users referenced in my snapshot of the Log table. I can either create it as select * from Users where user_id in (select user_id from Log_mview), or I can do select distinct u.* from Users u inner join Log_mview l on u.user_id = l.user_id (need the distinct to avoid multiple hits from users with multiple log entries). The former seems cleaner and more elegant, but takes much longer. Am I missing something? Is there a better way to do this?

  • sequencing function calls in javascript - are callbacks the only way?

    - by tim
    I read through various threads like this one for example. But it really escapes me how to accomplish the following: I have 4 functions, and want them happen one after another in sequence. Notice they are in incorrect order, to get my point across. I want the result that will output "1, 2, 3, 4' function firstFunction(){ // some very time consuming asynchronous code... console.log('1'); } function thirdFunction(){ // definitely dont wanna do this until secondFunction is finished console.log('3'); } function secondFunction(){ // waits for firstFunction to be completed console.log('2'); } function fourthFunction(){ // last function, not executed until the other 3 are done. console.log('4'); } I tried to figure out callbacks but am getting lost :( Isn't there some simple way to do this? Like looping through an array...

  • appending and reading text file

    - by Rod
    Environment: Any .Net Framework welcomed. I have a log file that gets written to 24/7. I am trying to create an application that will read the log file and process the data. What's the best way to read the log file efficiently? I imagine monitoring the file with something like FileSystemWatcher. But how do I make sure I don't read the same data once it's been processed by my application? Or say the application aborts for some unknown reason, how would it pick up where it left off last? There's usually a header and footer around the payload that's in the log file. Maybe an id field in the content as well. Not sure yet though about the id field being there. I also imagined maybe saving the lines read count somewhere to maybe use that as bookmark.
