  • Is it unprofessional to leave game resources to the open eye?

    I'm still having problems packing my resources, after going through complicated APIs and basically just zip files which are exhausting my brain, I thought I could also pack the game with the resources visible to the human eye, in a simple folder. Would that be unprofessional? Personally, I've never even seen games do that, it would basically mean that the player could just edit whatever he wants in the game, like go in map1.txt and add an X somewhere to create a wall, or change the player sprite to a pony in MS PAINT.

    Jens Hofschröer, who has one of the very best NetBeans Platform blogs (if you more or less understand German), and who wrote, sometime ago, the initial version of the Import Statement Organizer, as well as being the main developer of a great gear design & manufacturing tool on the NetBeans Platform in Aachen, commented on my recent blog entry "Viewing the NetBeans Central Registry", where the root Node of the Central Registry is shown in a BeanTreeView, with the words: "I wrapped that Node in a FilterNode to provide the 'position' attribute and the 'file extension'. All Children are wrapped too. Then I used an OutlineView to show these two properties. Great tool to find wrong layer entries." I asked him for the code he describes above and he sent it to me. He discussed it here in his blog, while all the code involved can be read below.   • Installing Windows Platform SDK Problem [on hold]

    I cannot seem to install the windows platform sdk when i have visual studio 2010 installed,i followed the error code the sdk was getting and it said i need to unistall the 2010 redistribute runtimes,i did that and it has still not fixed the problem,this is very anoying as i have tried different things and been at it for atleast 5 hours now,did anyone else get this problem and know a work around? This is the order i tried install vs 2010, remove redis runtimes, install platform sdk (failed), install redis x86/x64, install service pack 1 for vs Thanks

  • UBS drive on Ubuntu on VM Virtualbox

    OSX is my host OS I have windows xp and Ubuntu 10.10 on guest OS. They both work great. When I eject USB flash drive from host OS, it appears in windows guest OS but it does not appear in Ubuntu Guest OS. I never run both guest OS at the same time. its always either or. I am running, VM virtualbox 4.1.10 and installed latest guest additions and also installed VM virtualbox extension pack. Thanks for your help

  • System Information (msinfo32.exe) Can't Collect Information

    I have Windows XP Pro, service pack 1, IE 6 and 32GB of free space, 75GB total. I have had nothing but trouble after trying to install service pack 2 even though I used System Restore. The installation was incomplete and my computer has never been the same. I attempted to install sp2 four or five times and sp3 once, always with the same result. I've tried reinstalling XP Pro but that didn't fix the problem. My XP Pro disk now has a scratch on it and refuses to work. Dell would not replace it stating that my computer was out of warranty. I'm currently trying Reimage which is supposed to return a computer to the original configuration and replace missing or damaged files. Believe it or not, Ripley, it stops in the middle of the operation and, so far, the Reimage techs haven't been able to figure out why. Of the many problems that I still have is that System Information can't collect information. The Help and Support sections that display system info also don't work. Is there some way that I can fix this? I can't afford to throw my computer away, yet. Thank you for listening, Pam Galvin

  • Why are my Windows 7 updates continuously failing?

    I'm an advanced level user here with an odd issue. I have two Windows Updates that are failing to install, every single time. I'm getting a mysterious "Code 1" error on both updates, an error for which I'm having difficulty finding a solution. The updates in question are: Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243) System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [May 2011] Because these updates are failing, the Shut Down button in my start menu always has the shield icon next to it, indicating that "new" updates will be installed on shut down. But, of course, they'll fail and when the PC is restarted, the shield icon is still there.     I have been researching all day. Here is what I have done: In C:/PHP/php.ini and C:/PHP/php-cgi-fcgi.ini I have made the extension_dir = "C:/PHP/ext" I uncommented extension=php_openssl.dll I went to http://windows.php.net/download/ and got the thread safe version with the PHP 5.4 (5.4.8) version of DLL's In C:/PHP/ext I replaced the php_openssl.dll with the one I downloaded In System32 and SysWOW64 I added the following DLL's ssleay.dll libeay.dll I restarted the IIS server in the Server Manager under Web Server and stopped and started the World Wide Web Publishing Service That didn't work, so I tried same thing with the unthreaded versions.   • Data Protection Manager System Protection Backups Failing

    I'm just starting to setup DPM 2010 in a test environment with a Domain Controller and a File Server. Everything seem to be working fairly well and I can get all of my backup jobs to succeed except for the "Computer\System Protection" backups. Both servers are running fully up to date 64 bit Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Service Pack 1. The error that is being provided is: DPM cannot create a backup because Windows Server Backup (WSB) on the protected computer encountered an error (WSB Event ID: 517, WSB Error Code: 0x8078001D). (ID 30229 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909FB) This Microsoft Knowledge Base article describes the issue perfectly and provides a hotfix. I downloaded the hotfix, moved it onto the affected server, attempt to run it and receive the following error: The update is not applicable to your computer. I've verified that I have indeed downloaded the 64 bit version. According to this thread the hotfix got rolled into Service Pack 1, yet I'm still experiencing the issue. Both machines do have the Windows Server Backup feature installed. Can anybody point me in the right direction? What am I missing?
