  • OS X 10.6 won't automatically connect to wireless even though remember network is checked

    Upgraded to 10.6 recently. 10.5 would connect to my home network whenever I was home. 10.6 constantly pops up the network selection dialog and asks me what network I want to join. I click my home network and the password is already entered (so it "remembers" the network). "Remember network" is checked... but it does it every time. How do I get 10.6 to connect to networks automatically whenever it sees them?

  • SSH login very slow on OS X Leopard

    My SSH sessions take a very long time to initiate. This applies for logins with and without passwords, interactive and non-interactive. I have tried setting 'GSSAPIAuthentication no' and 'IPQoS 0x00' on the client side, and 'UseDNS no' on the server side, but no dice. I'm really stumped and frustrated. The worst part is that it SFTP takes forever to establish connections too, making file transfer much longer than it would be otherwise. I thought the problem might be something with PAM, because of where the hang is in the sshd log below, so I tried commenting out each line one-by-one in the /etc/pam.d/sshd file. Some caused login to be impossible, some had no apparent effect. I can't really tell if PAM is stalling for other services, but I can say that su'ing into my account from another account with 'su -l' has no apparent delay. I tried creating a new user account, just to see if there was something wrong with my existing account, and the same problem persisted. Any ideas of what's going on?   • Mac OS X kernel panic after TM restore

    I changed my HD in my MacBook Pro, and restored from Time Machine backup. Now I keep getting kernel panic error everytime I restart. I booted from the DVD and ran a few tests, noticed that HD and RAM are being detected, also did a repair on the disk through disk utility, still getting same error. Any suggestions?

  • Macro To Choose "Don't Save" on pop-up window (Mac OS X)

    I was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut to choose "Don't Save" when an alert comes up. I'm talking specifically about Photoshop but the same action happens in many applications. It's the standard pop up that shows when you are canceling out of a window and haven't saved the document or project. To be clear it says "Don't Save", "Cancel" and "Save". Save is generally the default but I was just curious if there's a way to choose "Don't Save" without clicking. I know this may be a pretty simple question but I was curious about it and it's surprisingly hard to Google... Thanks!

  • User cannot access a system DSN on Windows Server 2008

    We run our SQL Server services using a low privileged domain account. That account is NOT a local admin on the OS. Only access I give the user account is assigned during install of SQL: full control over its mount points and then everything else is granted by the SQL Server 2005/2008 installer. I need to create a linked server in SQL Server 2008 to an ODBC data source. So I remoted into the computer using my domain account, which is part of a group that DOES have local admin privs to the OS. I created a system DSN and configured it to connect to another SQL Server. The DSN works perfectly when I test it. However, when I try to create the linked server, I get an error. It appears to me that the DSN is invisible to the domain account that SQL Server is running as. It seems that this problem is only happening to me on Windows 2008 servers. Does anybody know whether there's anything that you need to do after creating a DSN to make it visible for other users to access?

    So, I broke a website with some server changes oops. I roll back the changes I made, hit cmd-R, and oh noes, it is still broken. But I relax thinking, there must be something held in safari's cache so I press the handy 'Empty Cache' button. Hit cmd-R for refresh it is still broken. I'm really worried that I've done it and broken something bigtime. But first decide to check on a hand win xp computer, and voila it works. So the question is how do you "really" clear the cache w/o restart safari, I have many browser windows open a restart every time I make a server side change will ruin me. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Multiple SSL Certificates Running on Mac OS X 10.6

    I have been running into walls with this for a while, so I posted at stackoverflow, and I was pointed over here... I am attempting to setup multiple IP addresses on Snow Leopard so that I can develop with SSL certificates. I am running XAMPP - I don't know if that is the problem, but I guess I would run into the same problems, considering the built in apache is turned off. So first up I looked into starting up the IPs on start up. I got up an running with a new StartupItem that runs correctly, because I can ping the ip address: ping 127.0.0.2 ping 127.0.0.1 And both of them work. So now I have IP addresses, which as you may know are not standard on OSx. I edited the /etc/hosts file to include the new sites too: 127.0.0.1 site1.local 127.0.0.2 site2.local I had already changed the httpd.conf to use the httpd-vhosts.conf - because I had a few sites running on the one IP address. They do use the same certificate, which is why they are on different IP addresses. I also included the NameVirtualHost information at the top of the file: NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.2:80 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:443 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.2:443 I can ping site1.local and site2.local. I can use telnet ( telnet site2.local 80 ) to get into both sites. But in Safari I can only get to the first site1.local - navigating to site2.local gives me either the localhost main page (which is included in the vhosts) or gives me a Access forbidden!. I am usure what to do, any suggestions would be awesome.

  • PDF rendering issue os OSX

    I came across some very odd rendering when trying to view a PDF file that needed to print out. I was wondering anyone has come across a similar problem before or has any ideas as to what might be causing this. PDF when viewed on OSX 10.7.4 - Preview version 6.0. I've tried opening the file in Skim but that doesn't work either. PDF as it should be, and as Chrome renders it in browser, but not if I download it onto my machine. Illustrator complains about "an unknown imaging construct" when I open the file, but renders it fine nevertheless, Photoshop doesn't have any problems either.

  • Howto manage website and user permissions with apache on Mac os X

    I have lots of different websites in a Development directory in my home dir. While developing, files get saved under my username but websites configured under apache it's permission need to be set as _www user and group. What's the best way to handle this? Do I run apache under a different user/group? Do I run my development tools under a different user? Do add myself to the _www group? (seems like it doesn't work btw) I've just switched to a mac and I'm trying to find a smooth development workflow, so it would be best if i could just run the necessary tools, save some files and be able to test the website without much hassle. Thanks!

    I'm using Windows 7 on my HP ProBook 4250s. The problem I face is that my system halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds. These jerks are not letting me concentrate or work properly. This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. I tried to install every driver from HP's website and there's no item in device manager marked with yellow icon.     I have a HP MediaSmart Server (EX 490) with Windows Home Server out of the box. It comes with a single 1.0 TB drive partioned 20 GB for the System disk. The system disk keeps filling up. I haven't installed anything but McAfee. Without getting into the philosophical discussions of why they would partition it thus, what is the likely culprit of this debacle? My D: Partition has plenty of space. I can get into the server only through Remote Desktop.

Because I got this error while I tried following this instruction: Give the IP address, username and password of the remote machine that you would like to convert and then hit next I got this error in vmware converter: Unable to connect the specified host 10.0.2.15 which is the ip address of the xp machine inside virtual box. It also said that there is a network configuration problem. And when I inputted the ip address from whatismyip.com which should be the same as the ip address on local machine. I didn't get the previous error but I got another one, it said that: insufficient permissions to connect to "ip address" What solution can you suggest for this problem?

  • Misconfigured external monitor on Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3

    I have an external monitor (specifically, an HDTV) hooked up to my 2.53GHz 13" macbook pro. This display works fine and I use it with my mac in clamshell mode (eg. with an external keyboard/mouse and the laptop closed and the built-in mac screen turned off) My Mac has multiple users on it. For User A I can use the mac with the external monitor in both clamshell and dual-monitor setups. For User B, I can use the monitor in a dual-monitor setup, but whenever I switch to clamshell mode the Mac switches to an incorrect output resolution or frequency setting that my HDTV doesn't recognize, resulting in a blank screen and a message about Unsupported Resolution. Chances are I did this to myself by misconfiguring my display settings at some point in the past, but I have no idea how to undo it. I (obviously) can't seen the display to change the settings when it's borked. I can see the display settings if I switch to Dual-monitor mode, but those settings only affect the dual monitor setup; no matter how I change the settings in dual-monitor mode, the clamshell mode setup remains borked. How can I dig myself out of this hole?

All the directions I found do not work because I think my user name is not recognized by pg as having authority to change the password.     Here's my problem: I use Google Chrome as my web browser on MacOS X Snow Leopard. I am a keyboard shortcut addict, and I use QuickSilver to create keyboard shortcuts for anything I can. One of the most common things that I do is to open a new web browser window. But I use Spaces frequently to partition my tasks that I am currently working on, and when I open a web browser or web page with a QuickSilver trigger, spaces switches to the last space that I used Chrome on and opens a new tab, which often distracts me for hours because it brings me to a different space and thus a different task. I can fix this by right-clicking on the Google Chrome icon and clicking the "New Window" option, which opens a new window on the current space. I have tried to compose an AppleScript to do something like this, with no success. It has become a serious problem. Back when I used Firefox, I solved the problem by changing a preference item that says "Always open pop-up links in a new window" or something like that, which was kind of a sledge hammer approach, but it worked. I can always go back to Firefox, but I thought I'd ask my question here first. Anyone with any ideas?
