I always get messages saying line 5: syntax error near unexpected token 'fi' line 5: 'fi' when I try to execute this script. #!/bin/sh rm /opt/file_name if $? -ne 0 then echo 'error' fi exit I am running this on Red Hat Linux if that makes any difference. If any one can help identify what is wrong with the if statement I'd really appreciate it. Bill

  • shell script to start multiple Java programs from a directory at boot

    - by zcourts
I'm not sure if this is the best approach to this, It's my first time doing all of this (including writing shell scripts). OS: Centos My problem: I want to start multiple shell scripts at boot. One of the shell scripts is to start my own services and 3 others are for third party services. The shell script to start my own services will be looking for jar files. I currently have two services (will change), written in Java. All services are named under convention prefix-service-servicename What I've done: I created the following directory structure /home/username/scripts init.sh boot/ boot/startthirdprtyservice1.sh boot/startthirdprtyservice2.sh boot/startthirdprtyservice3.sh boot/startmyservices.sh /home/username/services prefix-lib-libraryname.jar prefix-lib-libraryname.jar prefix-service-servicename.jar prefix-service-servicename.jar prefix-service-servicename.jar In init.sh I have the following: #!/bin/sh #This scripts run all executable scripts in the boot directory at boot #done by adding this script to the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local #nohup #run-parts /home/username/scripts/boot/* #for each file in the boot dir... # ignore the HUP (hangup) signal for s in ./boot/*;do if [ -x $s ]; then echo "Starting $s" nohup $s & fi done echo "Done starting bootup scripts " echo "\n" In the script boot/startmyservices.sh I have #!/bin/sh fnmatch () { case "$2" in $1) return 0 ;; esac ; return 1 ; } ##sub strin to match for SUBSTRING="prefix-service" for s in /home/username/services/*;do if [ -x $s ]; then #match service in the filename , i.e. only services are started if fnmatch "$SUBSTRING" "$s" ; then echo "Starting $s " nohup $s & fi fi done echo "Done starting Services" echo "\n" Finally: Usually you can stick a program in /etc/rc.d/rc.local for it to be run at boot but I don't think this works in this case, or rather I don't know what to put in there I've just learnt how to do this by reading up a bit so I'm not sure its particularly the best thing to do so any advice is appreciated. When I run init.sh nohup.out contains Starting the thirdparty daemon... thirdparty started... .... but nothing from myservices.sh and my Java services aren't running I'm not sure where to start debugging or what could be going wrong. Edit Found some issues and got it to work, used -x instead of -n to check if the string is none zero, needed the sub string check to also be if [[ $s = $SUBSTRING ]] ; then and this last one was just stupid, missing java -jar in front of $s Still unsure of how to get init.sh to run at boot though

  • Windows 7 fails to install on KVM with qemu

    - by kief_morris
I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a virtual machine on my 64 bit Ubuntu Karmic box. I get to the point of selecting my language settings and clicking 'install now', but a short while later I get a blue screen of death. I've tried a few variations, including using the 32 bit (fails very quickly). The virt-install command I've tried includes this: sudo virt-install --connect qemu:///system -n ksm-win7 -r 2048 \ --disk path=/home/kief/VM-Images/ksm-win7.qcow2,size=50 \ -c /var/Software/Windows7/Full/64bit/SW_DVD5_SA_Win_Ent_7_64BIT_English_Full_MLF_X15-70749.ISO \ --vnc --os-type windows --os-variant vista --hvm The limited info I could find suggested that 'vista' should work as the --os-variant, I haven't found any values specific to windows 7. Here's my blue screen: I've found very little by Googling, so I'm guessing this isn't a case of KVM simply not supporting Windows 7. Thanks for any help. Update: I have been able to successfully create a Windows 7 VM using the graphical "Virtual Machine Manager" app, although I don't really understand the cause of the problem with the VM created with virt-install. Comparing the configuration files under /etc/libvirt/qemu provides some clues, although I don't know enough to interpret them properly. The interesting differences in the two VM configurations are: --- win7-virt-install.xml +++ win7-vmm.xml -<domain type='qemu'> +<domain type='kvm'> @@ -21 +21 @@ - <emulator>/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64</emulator> + <emulator>/usr/bin/kvm</emulator> @@ -23 +23 @@ - <source file='/home/kief/VM-Images/ksm-win7.qcow2'/> + <source file='/var/lib/libvirt/images/ksm-win7x64.img'/> I'm not sure if this means the working VM is not using qemu at all, or if there is some other difference in the way it's used with kvm. Update2: So I've answered my own question (mostly) below. A KVM VM needs to use KVM's own CPU emulation rather than qemu's in order for me to get Windows 7 installed. I'm not sure whether there is something that can be done to get it working on a qemu-emulation CPU, or whether a newer version will support it. But at least it is possible to get it running on a KVM VM.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server - RemoteApp - Option "Start in" available?

    - by Frank
we have set up a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server. On this server, we want to run an application which needs another path for the option "Start in" than the application itself. In a shortcut, this is no problem (for example, the "Target" is C:\app\bin\application.exe and the "Start in:" is C:\app\users\user1). But I have no option for "Start in" when I configure the RemoteApp so the application fails to start. Is there any possibility? Thank you in advance Frank

  • Setting up Apache and PHP on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    - by Martin Bean
I've recently purchased an Apple iMac. Unfortunately, enabling Apache and PHP has thrown up some problems. I enabled Mac's built-in Web Sharing through System Preferences, at which point I got an output and could add HTML files to my user directory. However, PHP files were being displayed rather than interpreted. I then discovered this is because PHP isn't enabled by default on Mac's Apache set-up. After a quick Google search, I came across this page: http://developer.apple.com/mac/articles/internet/phpeasyway.html I proceeded to the section, Enabling PHP in Apache, copying and pasting the following code snippet into a new Terminal window and hitting Return: set admin_email to (do shell script "defaults read AddressBookMe ExistingEmailAddress") user_www=$HOME/Sites filename=php-test user_index=${user_www}/${filename}.php user_db=${user_www}/${filename}-db.sqlite3 # NOTE: Having a writeable database in your home directory can be a security risk! conf=`apachectl -V | awk -F= '/SERVER_CONFIG/ {print \$2}'| sed 's/"//g'` conf_old=$conf.$$ conf_new=/tmp/php_conf.new touch $user_db chmod a+r $user_index chmod a+w $user_db chmod a+w $user_www echo "Enabling PHP in $conf ..." sed '/#LoadModule php5_module/s/#LoadModule/LoadModule/' $conf | sed "s^[email protected]^<b>\$admin_email</b>^" > $conf_new echo "(Re)Starting Apache ..." osascript <<EOF do shell script "/bin/mv -f $conf $conf_old; /bin/mv $conf_new $conf; /usr/sbin/apachectl restart" with administrator privileges EOF Unfortunately, this has completed thrown Apache and now nothing is being served; instead I'm receiving "Failed to open page" errors because it cannot connect to the server, despite Web Sharing still being active in System Preferences. So therefore I guess my question is this: how can I undo the changes made by the copy-and-pasting of the above code snippet? Admittedly, I don't understand what the above did; I just thought it looked like a Terminal command and tried it. I have no experience in setting up Apache on Mac OS X (and I've only installed XAMPP and WampServer on Windows). So any points on reversing the aforementioned, and then successfully enabling PHP would be great. EDIT: I've discovered, via Console, the following error message is being recorded when trying to browse to 127.0.0.1... (org.apache.httpd) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs (org.apache.httpd[13453]) Exited with exit code: 1 Does this point any more to the issue? EDIT #2: I'm now getting this in Console... 15/02/2010 21:24:14 osascript[3597] Error loading /Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types: dlopen(/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types, 262): no suitable image found. • Printing fails after first print with Centos 6 and HP LaserJet P3015dn printer

  • How to check if Emacs is in GUI mode (and execute `tool-bar-mode` only then)?

    - by dehmann
I have this line in my .emacs file: (tool-bar-mode 0) because I hate the toolbars in my GUI emacs (/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs). But when I start up my other, text-based emacs in the terminal (/opt/local/bin/emacs) it complains about that command: Symbol's function definition is void: tool-bar-mode How can I add an if condition so that it executes the tool-bar-mode command only when I'm in the GUI emacs? Thanks!

  • Configure error when installing php

    - by Emenims
When installing php I configure it like so: ./configure --prefix=/wwwroot/php --with-apxs2=/wwwroot/bin/apxs --with-configure-file-path=/wwwroot/php --with-mysql --with-gd And a configure error shows up saying this: xml2-config not found. Please check your libxml2 installation. What's this all about? And how settle the problem?
