• Error on installing xdebug via MacPorts

  I wanted to install xdebug via MacPorts, trying the terminal command sudo port install php5-xdebug But after a while the installation breaks, giving me an error ---> Configuring php5 Error: org.macports.configure for port php5 returned: configure failure: command execution failed Error: Failed to install php5 Please see the log file for port php5 for details: /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_lang_php5/php5/main.log Error: The following dependencies were not installed: php5 To report a bug, follow the instructions in the guide: http://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets Error: Processing of port php5-xdebug failed I checked with phpinfo(), that my version of php is 5.3.1 What am I missing?   We have Tomcat 6 connecting to a Win2k3 Server running AD. The realm is configured as such <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.JNDIRealm" debug="99" referrals="follow" connectionURL="<url>" connectionName="CN=Query Account,OU=Service Accounts,DC=company,DC=com" connectionPassword="<pwd>" userBase="OU=Users,DC=company,DC=com" userSubtree="true" userSearch="(sAMAccountName={0})" userRoleName="member" roleBase="OU=Security Groups,DC=company,DC=com" roleName="cn" roleSearch="(member={0})" roleSubtree="true"/> Our groups in AD are such Security Groups (OU) IT (OU) IT Support (OU) Support Staff (CN) The LDAP security works if in the web.xml, I speficy Support Staff. i.e works for Common names. We want ANY user under Security Groups OU to have access to the application and not just the CN. Tomcat does not search OU's and it just searches CN's in our case. How do we configure our settings so we can do OU level authorization and not just CN level ? thanks Mat

  What is the most efficient way to find all entries which do overlap with others in the same table? Every entry has a start and end date. • Simulating brush strokes for painting application

  I'm trying to write an application that can be used to create pictures that look like paintings using simulated brush strokes. Are there any good sources for simple ways of simulating brush strokes? For example, given a list of mouse positions that the user has dragged the mouse through, a brush width and a brush texture, how do I determine what to draw to the canvas? I've tried angling the brush texture in the direction of the mouse movement and dabbing several brush texture images along the path, but it doesn't look great. I think I'm missing something where the brush texture should shrink and grow on corners. Any simple to follow links would be appreciated. I've found complex academic papers on simulating e.g. oil paints but I just want a basic algorithm to use that produces OK results if possible.

• XML Schema Header & Namespace Config

  Migrating from DTD to XSD and for some reason the transition is a bumpy one. I understand how to define the schema once I'm inside the <xs:schema> root tag, but getting past the header & namespace declaration stuff is proving to be especially confusing for me. I have been trying to follow the well-laid out tutorial on W3S but even that tutorial seems to assume a lot of knowledge up front. I guess what I'm looking for is a King's English explanation of which attributes do what, where they go, and why: xmlns xmlns:xs xmlns:xsi targetNamespace xsi:schemaLocation And in some cases I see different variations of these elements/attributes, such as xsi which seems to have two different notations like xsi:schemaLocation="..." and xs:import schemaLocation="...". I guess between all these slight variations I can't seem to make heads or tails of what each of these does. Thanks in advance for bringing any clarity to this confusion!

• Google App Engine - About how much quota does a single datastore put use?

  The latency for a datastore put is about 150ms (http://code.google.com/status/appengine/detail/datastore/2010/03/11#ae-trust-detail-datastore-put-latency). About how much CPUTime is used by a single datastore put with data size of 100 bytes, into an entity that has only 2 columns, and no indexes? I plan to do some testing with this later today to figure it out, but if anyone already knows that would help me out :). Also, does anyone know about how much extra overhead in CPUTime doing this datastore put through the task queue would be? • Displaying a collection of controls in a specific way in WPF

  I have a collection of controls "MyCollection" wich changes in the Runtime. And I have to follow some constraints for that, for example: If my parameter "MyCollection.Count = 4" the property "NumberOfcolumns" will have the value 2, in order to create new Lines, and show the controls Two per Two. • How to capture a click on a link on a temporary layer that is hidden when the focus changes

  We have a layer that appears when a certain text input has the focus and that should dissappear when the input loses the focus. I tried to do it like this: <input type="text" onblur="document.getElementById('hideme').style.display='none'" /> <div id="hideme">Textextext <a href="http://disney.com/">disney</a> text</div> My problem is: when the user clicks on the link link, the browser does not follow this link. It seems the layer disappears before the browser checks where the click goes. What can I do here? One idea would be to watch whether the mouse enters the hideme div and not to close it when the mouse cursor is in there, but this seems way to complicated. Do you have a better idea? By the way: you can try it out very easy by pasting this into the Tryit Editor of w3schools. :-)

  i wonder if there are tutorials/books explaining how you create a library/plugin/module for other to implement? libraries/frameworks like solr, doctrine, codeigniter etc. cause it seems that they follow the same pattern. having one "bootstrap" file to load configurations, other classes and so on. i aim to understand the basics, so i can create a such library. cause at the moment i want to code an address book that other can use. just include a bootstrap file and they are ready to use my classes (like Doctrine). recommendations of sources to learn these things of stuff? you experienced guys, how did you learn it? thanks.

• What is branched in a repository?

  Ok I hope that this will end up sounding like a reasonable question. From what I understand of subversion if you have a repo that contains multiple projects, then you can branch individual projects within that repo (see SVN Red book - Using Branches) However what I don't quite follow is what happens when you create a branch in one of the distributed systems (Git, Hg, Bazaar - I don't think it matters which one). Can you branch just a sub-directory of the repo, or when you create the branch are you branching the entire repo? This question is part of a larger one that I posted on superuser (choice and setup of version control) and has come about as I am trying to figure out how to best version control a large hierarchal layout of independent projects. It may be that for distributed systems that what I would like to do is best handled by a sub-project mechanism of some sort - but again that is something I am not clear on although I have heard the term mentioned in regards to git.

  This is mostly a follow-up to this question. I decided to just keep YAGNI in mind and created a global variable (libpython). I set it to #f initially, then set! it when init is called. I added a function that should handle checking if that value has been initialized: (define (get-cpyfunc name type) (lambda args (if libpython (apply (get-ffi-obj name libpython type) args) (error "Call init before using any Python C functions")))) So now here's what I want to do. I want to define a macro that will take the following: (define-cpyfunc Py_Initialize (_fun -> _void)) And convert it into this: (define Py_Initialize (get-cpyfunc "Py_Initialize" (_fun -> _void))) I've been reading through the macro documentation to try figuring this out, but I can't seem to figure out a way to make it work. Can anyone help me with this (or at least give me a general idea of what the macro would look like)? Or is there a way to do this without macros?

• Can't find netbooted for Kerrighed pxe boot with Ubuntu Lucid Server

  I'm following installtion guides for pxe booting and kerrighed. I can't find the package nfsbooted for Ubuntu 10.04. Where did it go? Context: At work I have access to 8 mini-ITX PCs and am trying to build a cluster. My plans include trying Condor, GridGain, Hadoop, and recently Kerrighed has caught my eye. (I reaslise these are all for different kinds of things, I'm just evaluating). Ideally, I'd like to have all the nodes network boot from a single server, since that seems so much easier to manage, plus I can 'borrow' additional PCs for a while without touching their HD. I've been getting on great with Ubuntu Lucid Server (10.04), trying to follow the only guides I can find to get pxe booting (and ultimately kerrighed) to work. This guide is for Ubuntu 8.04 and this one is for Debian. They both refer to a package I can't seem to find, nfsbooted. Has this package been replaced? Am I doing something daft?

  I just started the Plugin development for the Wordpress, but finding it little difficult to understand. Looks like everything should be hooked with the wordpess to get it run and moreover are there all the global variables that i need to use. I am making a video plugin and designed some of the forms and display page, but didn't went through the templates, is it compulsory to follow the template structure or we can design our on layout. • Drag a UIView from one UIScrollView to another

  I have two UIScrollViews on my screen and I need to be able to drag a UIView from one scrollview to the other. At the moment, I have a UILongGestureRecognizer on the UIView that I want to move, such that when the user starts dragging it, I make the view follow the touch: - (void)dragChild:(UILongPressGestureRecognizer *)longPress { [[longPress view] setCenter:[longPress locationInView:[[longPress view] superview]]]; } But when I get the boundary of the starting UIScrollView, the view disappears because it's locked into that scrollview's bounds. Is there a way to "pop" it out of the scrollview when I start dragging such that I can carry it over to the other scrollview? Also, how do I test for the "drop" location? I want to know if it's been dropped over a certain other view. Or am I going about this all the wrong way? Thanks guys

• Updating or inserting high scores in SQL

  I've been racking my brain over this for the past few days and I'm not sure it's possible, but figured I ask here. Is it possible for a single SQL statement to update a high score if your score is greater or insert it if your first score? My Score table has a UserID, Level and Score columns and I like it to follow the following logic: If your new score is greater than your last score for this Level, then replace it. If you don't have a score for this Level then add it. If your score for this Level is less than your highest score for this Level then do nothing. Is this possible in a single SQL statement or do I have to use two, one to see if you have a new high score and if so, replace it? Each UserID would have only one score in the table for each Level. I'm using MySQL.

• Conventional Approaches for Passing Data to Back-End?

  Hi guys, I'm fairly new to web development, so please pardon the painfully newbie question that's about to follow. My computer science class group and I are developing a web application for class, which is built in Python (under Django) and uses jQuery on the front end. It's primarily an AJAX-ified application, and passing data from the backend to the front end is done through AJAX calls to specific URLs which return JSON. This is probably a stupid question, but what's the conventional approach for passing data in the opposite direction? We don't want to reload the page or anything, so is it an AJAX pass going the other way or something? Thanks in advance for your help!

• Is window.location.href = 'some_page.html' followed by search engines?

  Currently our website uses links to allow the user to change their locale. The problem with this is that you get a lot of random outlinks from each page on the site to... the same page, in other languages. When a search engine traverses this, it gets an excessively complex view of the site. We were going to change it to a form post to avoid this. However, it seems to me that we should just be able to change it to an onclick="window.location.href='change_my_language.php'" rather than an href="change_my_language.php". Am I right? Or do the major search engines scan for and follow this sort of thing nowadays?

• amp is included in url struts tag

  Hi, In my web application, I use strust2 url tag to pass parameters like id etc., For example, I use a link to delete an entity and I use param to pass the id of the entity to be deleted. And I follow this throughout my web app for adding, editing, deleting an entity. During run time, sometimes, I don't get the params to be stored in my action's bean properties. When I see the link that is generated, I get something like <a href='/projit1/p/discuss/viewDiscussion.action?d=11&amp;amp;amp;projid=11&amp;amp;disid=4'> What are these amps for ? why do they sit in between the action calls (made by link via url tag actions ) ? By the time I traverse back and forth in my web app, I get 10s and 20s of amp sitting in the request URL. What is the problem here ? Please help.
