  I make a query that return to me the count of Stored Procedure that created everyday as follow SELECT convert(varchar, crdate, 103) as Date,Count(*) as Counter FROM sysobjects WHERE (xtype = 'p') AND (name NOT LIKE 'dt%') Group by convert(varchar, crdate, 103) and its already work but dates appear in string format that i can't order it such as below 01/03/2010 3 01/04/2008 4 01/05/2010 5 01/11/2008 1 01/12/2008 4 02/03/2008 1 02/03/2010 2 02/04/2008 4 02/05/2010 2 02/11/2008 2 02/11/2009 2 02/12/2008 4 03/01/2010 1 03/02/2010 2 03/03/2010 2 03/04/2008 2 03/04/2010 2 03/05/2008 1 03/05/2010 2 I want to make that in which date is in datetime format that i can make order by successfully, i tried convert(datetime, crdate, 103) but it show Full date any idea of how to do ?

  Hi there, I learned that when executing commands in Python, I should use subprocess. What I'm trying to achieve is to encode a file via ffmpeg and observe the program output until the file is done. Ffmpeg logs the progress to stderr. If I try something like this: child = subprocess.Popen(command, shell=True, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) complete = False while not complete: stderr = child.communicate() # Get progress print "Progress here later" if child.poll() is not None: complete = True time.sleep(2) the programm does not continue after calling child.communicate() and waits for the command to complete. Is there any other way to follow the output?

  Hello, This is what I want to do, insert USB flash drive. mount it. record uniquie identifer string to a file. format the drive to FAT32. copy a text file to the drive. unmount it. remove the drive. 30 times The situation is this, I have bought 30 usb drives. I need to format each one to ensure they are clean, I need the unique string from each device. I need to put the same txt file on each one. I am not great at writing scripts but can read and follow bash and python. Any pointers would be appreciated.

  hi, I had to comment these lines from the htaccess files in my main Drupal folder and in sites folder # Don't show directory listings for URLs which map to a directory. #Options -Indexes # Follow symbolic links in this directory. #Options +FollowSymLinks ...in order to not get a 500 Internal Error on the new server. Can I leave them uncommented or am I going to have security issues ? ps. I've also set all content in files folder 777 permission. Is this ok ? thanks

She's been c/ping entire site maps by hand, and I know I could slap something together with Python to follow links and dump full text (with line numbers) for her, but I've never actually done anything quite like this. • How to migrate a codebase from one svn repo to another preserving history?

  I have a branch in a badly structured svn repo that needs to be stripped out and moved to another svn repository. (I'm trying to clean it up some). If I do an 'svn log' and not stop on copy/rename I can see all 3427 commits that I care about. Is there some way to dump the revisions out, short of writing some major scripts? I would follow the advice in this question but this branch has been moved all over the place and I would like to preserve the moves as well. Any ideas?

  My application has a feature that parses text using a regular expression to extract special values. I find myself also needing to create strings that follow the same format. Is there a way to use the already defined regular expression to create those strings? For example, assume my regex looks something like this: public static Regex MyRegex = new Regex( @"sometext_(?<group1>\d*)" ); I'd like to be able to use MyRegex to create a new string, something like: var created = MyRegex.ToString( new Dictionary<string, string>() {{ "group1", "data1" }}; Such that created would then have the value "sometextdata1".

  Hi there, I have written a while ago an application used by multiple users to handle trades creation. I haven't done development for some time now and can't remember how I managed the concurrency between the users and so would have liked your advices in term of design. The application was as follow: - One heavy client per user - A single database - Access to the database for each user to insert/update/delete trades - A grid in the application reflecting the trades table. That grid being updated each time someone changes a deal. My questions: 1- Do you confirm I shouldn't care about the connection to the database for each application. Considering that there is a singleton in each, I would expect on connexion per client with no issue. 2- How preventing the concurrency of the accesses? I guess I should lock when modifying the data, however don't remember how to. 3- How to have the grid automatically updated whenever the database is (by another user for example)?   Hi all, I'm curious for those of you who are building iPhone apps based on REST/SOAP/XML-RPC or simply pulling down a dynamic XML feed, what does it mean exactly to you when a user says 'refresh' the feed? The straight forward way is to populate some collection, say an NSMutableArray, with whatever you bring down from the feed. If a widget on the UI is available to refresh, I typically do something like: [myMutableArray removeAllObjects]; // follow steps to repopulate myMutableArray It seems this is the least efficient algorithm for refreshing an XML feed. For instance many folks who are building Twitter clients, are appending changes to their existing feed, versus bringing down the entire feed in its complete form again. What kind of algorithms are you using to "refresh" your models when speaking to a server-side data source? Thanks all.

  So I know the convention for naming M-M relationship tables in SQL is to have something like so: For tables User and Data the relationship table would be called UserData User_Data or something similar (from here) What happens then if you need to have multiple relationships between User and Data, representing each in its own table? I have a site I'm working on where I have two primary items and multiple independent M-M relationships between them. I know I could just use a single relationship table and have a field which determines the relationship type, but I'm not sure whether this is a good solution. Assuming I don't go that route, what naming convention should I follow to work around my original problem?

• Is there any way around the Chrome 5 breakage of Ajax for local files?

  The recent Chrome 5.0 release completely blocks XMLHTTPRequest requests for local files comming from a local file. Here is just one of the many related bug reports and here is the code change (there is also a SO question caused by this). This breaks a lot of production code, e.g. for documentation systems. Users must be able to browse local documentation without the need to install anything or run executables. My question is if there is any way around this restriction? I'm only interested in solutions that don't require any fancy actions on the users side (nothing beyond a confirmation dialog). Is there any way the HTML5 File API could be used, or maybe postMessage()? Of course this whole issue is very frustrating for many people. Firefox takes a fare more reasonable approach and allows requests inside the directory. So it seems unlikely that other browser vendors will follow Chrome.

• Matlab: plotting frequency distribution with a curve

  I have to plot 10 frequency distributions on one graph. In order to keep things tidy, I would like to avoid making a histogram with bins and would prefer having lines that follow the contour of each histogram plot. I tried the following [counts, bins] = hist(data); plot(bins, counts) But this gives me a very inexact and jagged line. I read about ksdensity, which gives me a nice curve, but it changes the scaling of my y-axis and I need to be able to read the frequencies from the y-axis. Can you recommend anything else?

• WhatsApp - writing a clone (iphone, android, wp7)

  I am trying to create a instant messaging app very much like whatsapp I suppose. My resources I have available to me are Server development in C# (REST Service, dedicated server app etc) And currently an android development platform using eclipse (iphone, wp7 to follow later). I have done some development in Android before but I don't have any idea where to start an application like this. My guess would be it would work with UDP / TCP or similar ? I currently have a shared server for an asp.net website but I presume this wouldn't be ideal, I could essential setup a web service on the server and get a client to publish his messages there but then this would mean that the receivers would have to POLL (PULL) every 5 minutes or so - so I guess this wouldn't be real time Do I need to use UDP here ? And I presume platforms like Iphone, Android and WP7 will not have any issues sending msgs by UDP - if that is how its done. I look forward to any help or guidance.

• MySQL log files deletion

  I have a master and slave database running on different nodes. The master DB is subjected to huge no. of inserts/updates. The master DB size is close to 6 GB, while the log files are now occupying a space of more than 120 GB. I am running out of disk space and need to get rid of the log files. Will deleting the log files in anyway affect the slave DB ? Presently, the slave is just a couple of seconds behind the master. Is there someplace where I can see what steps I need to follow to delete those files eg. 1)Shut down the slave 2)Shut down the master 3)Delete the log files 4)Start the Master 5)Start the Slave Do I need to inform the slave that the log files have been deleted ??   In my application i'm declaring a string variable near the top of my code to define the name of my window class which I use in my calls to RegisterClassEx, CreateWindowEx etc.. Now, I know that an LPCTSTR is a typedef and will eventually follow down to a TCHAR (well a CHAR or WCHAR depending on whether UNICODE is defined), but I was wondering whether it would be better to use this: static LPCTSTR szWindowClass = TEXT("MyApp"); Or this: static const TCHAR szWindowClass[] = TEXT("MyApp"); I personally prefer the use of the LPCTSTR as coming from a JavaScript, PHP, C# background I never really considered declaring a string as an array of chars. But are there actually any advantages of using one over the other, or does it in fact not even make a difference as to which one I choose? Thank you, in advanced, for your answers.

I run apache2 on a Ubuntu 9 system... If you know of any good statistics apps for servers please let me know. And a follow-up question: All statistics are saved in log-files right? So how large would these log-files become then? Possibility to split them would be good, dont know if this is possible with Webalyzer though...

I've now borrowed the book "Agile Web Development with Rails, Third Edition" from a friend, and want to follow the setup instructions in that. Firstly, do I need to remove what I've setup previously? If yes, how do I do it? I can't seem to find instructions anywhere. • Private vs. Public members in practice (how important is encapsulation?)

  One of the biggest advantages of object-oriented programming is encapsulation, and one of the "truths" we've (or, at least, I've) been taught is that members should always be made private and made available via accessor and mutator methods, thus ensuring the ability to verify and validate the changes. I'm curious, though, how important this really is in practice. In particular, if you've got a more complicated member (such as a collection), it can be very tempting to just make it public rather than make a bunch of methods to get the collection's keys, add/remove items from the collection, etc. Do you follow the rule in general? Does your answer change depending on whether it's code written for yourself vs. to be used by others? Are there more subtle reasons I'm missing for this obfuscation?
