ODAC offers two connection modes to the Oracle server: connection through the Oracle Call Interface in Client mode and direct connection over TCP/IP in Direct mode.   • Is there a browser-agnostic way to detect client-side script errors with Watin?

    We're using WatiN to test our web portals. During the course of an E2E test, we'll occasionally see client-side script errors on the IE status bar. I'd like to chain a handler onto the script error event and record the error for later analysis and bug filing. Problem is, I don't know that there's a global script error event or how to chain into it. And if there's not a browser-agnostic way to accomplish this, I can create MyIE and MyFF subclasses but then this becomes two browser-specific questions. In essence, I'm thinking of something like this entirely made-up call: browser.ScriptEngine.SetCustomErrorHandler(LogScriptingError); ... where LogScriptErrors is my code that does the obvious. Many of our client-side scripting errors don't necessarily prevent the test from continuing (a pretty UI element didn't animate, for example, but the underlying form is still submittable), so I'd like to log the error and forge ahead in most cases.

  • Shared WCF client code between .NET and Silverlight apps?

    I'm developing a .NET application that will have both a WinForms and a Silverlight client. Although the majority of code will be in the server, I'll need to have quite a bit of logic in the clients as well, and I would like to keep the client library code the same. From what I could figure out so far, I need to have two different project types, a class library and a Silverlight class library, and link the files from one project to the other. This seems kind of lame, but it works for simple code. My problem, though, is that the code generated by the SVCUtil.exe to access WCF services is different from the code generated by the slsvcutil.exe, and the silverlight code is actually incompatible with the .NET one: I get a bunch of problems with the System.ServiceModel.Channel classes when I try to import the class into .NET. Has anybody done anything similar to this before? What am I doing wrong?

Now, My Question is . I have to display these lines in a textarea. But these lines should not be displayed at once . Each line should be appended in textarea with some delay. (Use of setInterval is required as per my knowledge) . Also I am using jquery in my templates. The server used is Django . Please provide some solution as in some sample code will be quite helpful .

    I am using wcf with self tracking entity framework objects. On the client side i have bound an entity to an edit form (which has multiple textboxes and comboboxes). After the user hits Save, the entity is sent through wcf to the server wcf service which will attempt to save the entity. If there is a failure (say a network failure), I need to reset the current entity back to original values. How best can I do this client side? (I recognize with Self Tracking objects there is a property OriginalValues however that collection seems to have count=0) so not sure how to get the original values? Thanks-

    I have an API which looks like /summary/yyyy/mm Which returns the summary of their data for the year and month requested. One of the things it returns the number of days left if this is current year and month. For example: days_left: 9 for 2013 and 10 and current date on server is 21 Oct 2013 How I calculate remaining days? This is implemented in python as def current_financial_month_details(self): time_from, time_to = self \ .get_start_end_time_current_financial_month() today = datetime.today() from_time = datetime(year=today.year, month=today.month, day=today.day) return { 'time_from': time_from, 'time_to': time_to, 'remaining_days': (time_to - from_time).days } The problem? The server is in east coast and the client(me with browser) is on pacific time zone When its 9PM PST the time changes in east coast, so if I run hit /summary/2013/10 and if it is Oct 21 2013 for me on PST, the date has already changed on EST, so days_left: 8 which is incorrect on client end. right? How do I handle this situation?

    Hi, We are presently working for a client who is new to working with distributed teams. We have teams spread across India and the UK. Although we have decent project tracking tools (Mingle), would it be a good idea to the give the PM at the client access to our git hub repo. Would this be make it easier for them (see what the devs are working on and an insight into what the team has been developing). I agree that noot all commit messages would make sense to them but would this be a good way to boost their confidence in what we are doing? They already can check out our fortnightly releases on our QA and UA environments, but this still is behind dev by 5-6 days. Also, is there any reporting for git hub which makes it easier for PM types to make sense of it all? Thanks

I'm delivering a site to a client and I want to send them high-quality HTML/CSS/JS, fully validated, accessible etc. So I'm compiling a list of things to check, and useful tools for doing so, before I hand the code over. Here's a partial list, but what am I missing? Link checking for any broken links I might have missed - W3C link checker HTML validation for accessibility and broken-ness - W3C HTML validator CSS validation - W3C CSS validator Check for slow-loading page elements - Firebug and YSlow plugin What's missing - if you were a client, what else would you want to be sure has been checked? I'm wondering about the etiquette of things like comments, indentation, and minification; is it good practice to sort out all these? And what else have I missed? Thanks :)

    Our application uses a lot of configuration options. Those options need to be reflected on the client side in the form of User preferences, site wide preferences, etc. Currently, we pass server side settings down to the client side in the form of JSON that is stored in custom attributes in the markup for a specific element (and no, our application currently doesn't worry about W3C validation). We then retrieve the data from the custom attribute, and parse it into a JSON object for use in script using jQuery. One drawback to this is referencing attributes on elements from within event handlers. I know this is frowned upon, as it can create circular references, and subsequently memory leaks. I would much prefer to use jQuery's data function, but you can't invoke this from the server side at page render time. What does everyone else do in this type of scenario?

    I have a partial view that is rendered within a main view. The partial view takes advantage of System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations and Html.EnableClientValidation(). A link is clicked, and div containing the partial view is displayed within a JQuery.Dialog(). I then click the save button without entering any text in my validated input field. This causes the client side validation to fire as expected, and display the '*required' message beside the invalid field. When the cancel button is clicked, I want to reset the client side MVC validation back to it's default state and remove any messages, ready for when the user opens the dialog again. Is there a recommended way of doing this?

    How do I keep Xubuntu 11.10 from overwriting resolv.conf everytime I reboot my machine? Everytime I reboot, I get an overwritten resolv.conf that has the words # Generated by Network Manager and no nameservers specified.     Preface I'm building a virtualization environment with Ubuntu 14.04 and LXC. I don't want to write my own template since the upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 has shown that backwards compatibility is not guaranteed. Therefore I'm deploying my virtual machines via lxc-create, using the default Ubuntu template. The DNS for the servers is provided by Amazon Route 53, so no local DNS server is needed. I also use Puppet to configure my servers, so I want to keep the manual effort on the deployment minimal. Now, the default Ubuntu template assigns IP addresses via DHCP. Therefore, I need a local DHCP server to assign IP addresses to the nodes, so I can SSH into them and get Puppet running. Since Puppet requires a proper DNS setup, assigning temporary IP addresses is not an option, the client needs to get the right hostname and IP address from the start. Question What DHCP server do I use and how do I get it to assign the IP address based only on the host-name DHCP option by performing a DNS lookup on that very host name? What I've tried I tried to make it work using the ISC DHCP server, however, the manual clearly states: Please be aware that only the dhcp-client-identifier option and the hardware address can be used to match a host declaration, or the host-identifier option parameter for DHCPv6 servers. For example, it is not possible to match a host declaration to a host-name option. This is because the host-name option cannot be guaranteed to be unique for any given client, whereas both the hardware address and dhcp-client-identifier option are at least theoretically guaranteed to be unique to a given client. I also tried to create a class that matches the hostname like this: class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; fixed-address my-client-name.my-domain.com; } Unfortunately the fixed-address option is not allowed in class statements. I can replace it with a 1-size pool, which works as expected: subnet 10.103.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 { option routers 10.103.1.1; class "my-client-name" { match if option host-name = "my-client-name"; } pool { allow members of "my-client-name"; range 10.103.1.2 10.103.1.2; } } However, this would require me to administer the IP addresses in two places (Amazon Route53 and the DHCP server), which I would prefer not to do. About security Since this is only used in the bootstrapping phase on an internal network and is then replaced by a static network configuration by Puppet, this shouldn't be an issue from a security standpoint.
