  • How do I enable Flash 11.2 in Chrome?

    I'm trying to force Chrome to use Flash 11.2 rather than the packaged Pepper version because it doesn't support DRM and I want to be able to use Amazon Instant Video/HBO GO. I followed Adobe's instructions to a tee but when I restart Chrome and view the plugins, the Pepper flash version is still the only one available. I have expanded the details and am certain I have not just missed the other version. I checked the directories where the files were being copied to verify that it worked and it appears that they successfully copied without issue. Unfortunately, since I didn't run into any problems until finding that it just didn't work, I don't have many other details that might help shed some light on this. I'm crossing my fingers though and hoping that someone else might have had some experience with this. Thanks in advance. Let's say my site is www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com and each customer has urls like this www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/frances www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/eden www.bestsitebuildingwebsite.com/john And a customer has a domain called widgets.com Is it actually possible domain widgets.com to go to my site somehow and have HASHES on the URL still work (my site makes use of hashes for AJAX queries).   • SSAS: Utility to check you have the correct data types and sizes in your cube definition

    This blog describes a tool I developed which allows you to compare the data types and data sizes found in the cube’s data source view with the data types/sizes of the corresponding dimensional attribute.  Why is this important?  Well when creating named queries in a cube’s data source view, it is often necessary to use the SQL CAST or CONVERT operation to change the data type to something more appropriate for SSAS.  This is particularly important when your cube is based on an Oracle data source or using custom SQL queries rather than views in the relational database.   The problem with BIDS is that if you change the underlying SQL query, then the size of the data type in the dimension does not update automatically.  This then causes problems during deployment whereby processing the dimension fails because the data in the relational database is wider than that allowed by the dimensional attribute. In particular, if you use some string manipulation functions provided by SQL Server or Oracle in your queries, you may find that the 10 character string you expect suddenly turns into an 8,000 character monster.  For example, the SQL Server function REPLACE returns column with a width of 8,000 characters.  So if you use this function in the named query in your DSV, you will get a column width of 8,000 characters.  Although the Oracle REPLACE function is far more intelligent, the generated column size could still be way bigger than the maximum length of the data actually in the field. Now this may not be a problem when prototyping, but in your production cubes you really should clean up this kind of thing as these massive strings will add to processing times and storage space. Similarly, you do not want to forget to change the size of the dimension attribute if your database columns increase in size. Introducing CheckCubeDataTypes Utiltity The CheckCubeDataTypes application extracts all the data types and data sizes for all attributes in the cube and compares them to the data types and data sizes in the cube’s data source view.  It then generates an Excel CSV file which contains all this metadata along with a flag indicating if there is a mismatch between the DSV and the dimensional attribute.  Note that the app not only checks all the attribute keys but also the name and value columns for each attribute. Another benefit of having the metadata held in a CSV text file format is that you can place the file under source code control.  This allows you to compare the metadata of the previous cube release with your new release to highlight problems introduced by new development. In my local business full page, I have a carousel with several images, so what I did is that on the container of this carousel i have written the following: "itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"", i.e. <div class="tourism-product-media-gallery" itemprop='photos' itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject"> and then on each and every image i have written the following: "itemprop="contentURL"", i.e. <img src="@mediaItem.NormalImage" alt="@mediaItemCaption" itemprop="contentURL"/> But i am not convinced that this is the way it should be.     I am running an Arch Linux (latest, up-to-date) box, and attempting to get MySQL to start at boot. This post defines it as: yak shaving is what you are doing when you're doing some stupid, fiddly little task that bears no obvious relationship to what you're supposed to be working on, but yet a chain of twelve causal relations links what you're doing to the original meta-task. I personally prefer the final definition because it contains the word "fiddly" which I think perfectly describes a typical yak shaving task.     I don't quite know how these things are called, so a search did not product any help. I've got two computers, a desktop and a netbook. The netbook is really weak, and there's hardly any fun doing work with it, especially after ubuntu software swallows so much cpu power for nothing. But my desktop is good, but uncomfortably positioned. So I know you can use any linux system as a server to give logins. I want to be able to login and work on my desktop, from my netbook. No VNC, no SSH, full X-server, I want to be able to choose "Login on Desktop" in my login menu on the netbook and have everything as if I was there. I hope I could make my point. Is it possible in a local network? And if so, how can I easily set it up?

    I am using a 4x4 matrix to transform verts in a shader. I multiply an identity matrix by a rotation matrix by a translation matrix. I am trying to first rotate the verts and then translate them, however in my result, it appears that the verts are being transformed and then rotated. My matrix looks something like this: m00 m01 m02 tx m10 m11 m12 ty m20 m21 m22 tz --- --- --- 1 I am not using OpenGL's fixed function pipeline, I am multiplying matrices on the client side, and uploading the matrix to a GLSL shader. If it helps, I am using my own matrix multiplication code, but I have recreated this problem using matrices on my graphing calculator, so I don't believe my matrix code has errors.. I'll include a visual aid if needed.

Once I managed to lose my wired connection as well and had to reinstall.     I just upgraded my netbook thus: Lucid - Maverick - Natty. (I skipped Maverick other than as an upgrade step due to issues with Unity.) Now, I seem to be stuck with something that looks like Emerald but apparently isn't (see note below). Compiz is running, as is gtk-window-decorator, but my title bars aren't following Ubuntu's theme. I was using the Ambiance theme with no problems until the upgrade to Natty. Here's a screenshot: How can I get the default theme? Note: I never installed Emerald, and as far as I can tell it isn't installed. There's no running process containing the string emerald. So I'm not sure where gtk-window-decorator is getting its configuration from.

  • Guiding Management to the Correct Decision

    My supervisor (also a developer) and I have a running joke about writing a book called "Managing From Beneath: Subversively Guiding Management to the Right Decision" and including a number of "techniques" we've developed for helping those who make the decisions to make the right ones. So far, we've got (cynicism warning!): BIC It! BIC stands for "Bury In Committee." When a bad idea comes up that someone wants to champion, we try to get it deferred to a committee for input. Typically it will either get killed outright (especially if other members of the committee are competing for you as a resource), or it will be hung up long enough that the proponent forgets about it. Smart, Stupid, or Expensive? When someone gets a visionary idea, offer them three ways to do it: a smart way, a stupid way, and an expensive way. The hope is that you've at least got a 2/3 shot of not having to do it the way that makes a piece of your soul die. All-Pro. It's a preemptive pro/con list in which you get into the mind of the (pr)opponent and think what would be cons against doing it your way. Twist them into pros and present them in your pro list before they have a chance to present them as cons. Dependicitis. Link pending decisions together, ideally with the proponent's pet project as the final link in the chain. Use this leverage to force action on those that have been put off. Preemptive Acceptance. Sometimes it's clear that management is going to go a particular direction regardless of advice to the contrary, and it's time to make the best of it. Take the opportunity to get something else you need, though. Approach the sponsor out of the blue and take the first step: "You know, I've been thinking about it, and while it's not the route I would advise, as long as we can get the schedule and budget for Project Awesome loosened up, I can work some magic to make your project fly." So ... what techniques have you come up with to try to head off the problem projects or make the best of what may come?
