  • Perform manual test, automate after - or never?

    In my current company, we have one tester. Having spoken to this tester, she says that in testing, before implementing any automation systems, the scripts (steps to take) are manually written and performed (performed at least once). Is this the way things work in testing? To make me laugh, this has been done in this case, yet no automation. It makes me laugh to see the lead tester perform loads of different combinations of usernames and passwords for a login form (which she is not overly keen on having automated) when I could easily automate that (but politics in the company won't allow that). This doesn't seem like the environment where a junior tester (not me, I'm a SDET) cannot learn anything. Thanks

  • VLC 2.0: can't enable UPnP support

    I'm attempting to use VLC 2.0.1 (Intel 64 bit) to connect to a UPnP server (Serviio 0.6.2 on OS X Snow Leopard). I've tried to enable the feature by right clicking the "Universal Plug 'n Play" node in the LOCAL NETWORK section of the Main Window. While I am able to select 'Enable', the setting doesn't seem to 'stick'. Moreover, UPnP isn't listed in the Playlist Service discovery section of the preferences. The 'Service discovery modules' is currently set to upnp_intel:sap. I am able to connect to the UPnP server with my Samsung TV, so I know that the service works.

    Following situation: I'm developing an windows mobile application using the sdk 6. Target machine is a nautiz x7. To improve the error reporting I want to catch the structured exceptions (SEH) and do a stack backtrace to store some information for analysis. So far I have the information where the exception was thrown (windows core.dll) and I can backtrace the return adresses thru the stack. But what I want to know is, which instruction in my code caused the exception? Does anyone know how to use the available exception and context information to get the appropriate function/instruction address? Unfortunately windows mobile 6 sdk for pocketpc does not support all the helper functions to do stackwalks or mini dumps.

  • Does UIActivityIndicator require manual threading on iPhone

    I am running creating an iPhone application which performs a costly operation and I wanted to create an activityIndicator to let the user know the application has not frozen. The operation is performed entirely in one event call... so there is no chance for the UI framework to receive control to actually display and animate this indicator. The sample apps which use the UIActivityIndicator (or any other similar animation) start and stop the animation in different events, triggered separately at different stages of the program. Do I need to manually create a separate thread to run my operation in, or is there already default support for this kind of behavior?

    As IT Support, my team is taking so much time reseting passwords. So, we thought it would be interesting to enable some sort of Password Challenge in Active Directory so users could reset their own passwords, after correctly answering some questions. Despite we alert users by mail when their passwords are going to expire, they just delete the mail and go on so we think it should be a great idea. I've seen some commercial products but I'm not sure if there is something built-in or GPL to enable this kind of feature. Could someone shed some light about it?

    We all know how to enable a website using apache on linux. I'm pretty sure that we all agree on using the a2ensite command. Unfortunately there is no default equivalent command comes with Nginx, but it did happens that I installed some package on ubuntu that allowed me to enable/disable sites and list them. The problem is I don't remember the name of this package. Anybody knows what I'm talking about? Please tell me name of this package and the command name.

  • Something like a manual refresh is needed angularjs, and a $digest() iterations error

    (post edited again, new comments follow this line) I'm changing the title of this posting since it was misleading - I was trying to fix a symptom. I was unable to figure out why the code was breaking with a $digest() iterations error. A plunk of my code worked fine. I was totally stuck, so I decided to make my code a little more Angular-like. One anti-pattern I had implemented was to hide my model behind my controller by adding getters/setters to the controller. I tore all that out and instead put the model into the $scope since I had read that was proper Angular. To my surprise, the $digest() iterations error went away. I do not exactly know why and I do not have the intestinal fortitude to put the old code back and figure it out. I surmise that by involving the controller in the get/put of the data I added a dependency under the hood. I do not understand it. edit #2 ends here. (post edited, see EDIT below) I was working through my first Error: 10 $digest() iterations reached. Aborting! error today. I solved it this way: <div ng-init="lineItems = ctrl.getLineItems()"> <tr ng-repeat="r in lineItems"> <td>{{r.text}}</td> <td>...</td> <td>{{r.price | currency}}</td> </tr </div> Now a new issue has arisen - the line items I'm producing can be modified by another control on the page. It's a text box for a promo code. The promo code adds a discount to the lineItem array. It would show up if I could ng-repeat over ctrl.getLineItems(). Since the ng-repeat is looking at a static variable, not the actual model, it doesn't see that the real line items have changed and thus the promotional discount doesn't get displayed until I refresh the browser. Here's the HTML for the promo code: <input type="text" name="promo" ng-model="ctrl.promoCode"/> <button ng-click="ctrl.applyPromoCode()">apply promo code</button> The input tag is writing the value to the model. The bg-click in the button is invoking a function that will apply the code. This could change the data behind the lineItems. I have been advised to use $scope.apply(...). However, since this is applied as a matter of course by ng-click is isn't going to do anything. Indeed, if I add it to ctrl.applyPromoCode(), I get an error since an .apply() is already in progress. I'm at a loss. EDIT The issue above is probably the result of me fixing of symptom, not a problem.   • Enable/disable wireless interface in a bat file

    Is there a way to enable/disable a wireless network interface via the command line (so I can put it in a bat file)? When I'm in the office I use a wired connection, but Windows still occasionally bugs me about my wireless connection not being connected (even though I turned off the option for notifying me when there's no connectivity). I'm guessing the only way to stop it from bugging me is to disable the interface, but I'd rather not have to go into the network settings every time I need to do so. I'd like to set up a bat file or a shortcut that I can use to enable/disable the wireless (preferably a single one that toggles the current state), and then just set up a keyboard shortcut for that. I just have no idea how to do so from the command line.

For an average 250mb video file it takes about an hour to encode.   • What are the pros and cons of using manual list iteration vs recursion through fail

    I come up against this all the time, and I'm never sure which way to attack it. Below are two methods for processing some season facts. What I'm trying to work out is whether to use method 1 or 2, and what are the pros and cons of each, especially large amounts of facts. methodone seems wasteful since the facts are available, why bother building a list of them (especially a large list). This must have memory implications too if the list is large enough ? And it doesn't take advantage of Prolog's natural backtracking feature. methodtwo takes advantage of backtracking to do the recursion for me, and I would guess would be much more memory efficient, but is it good programming practice generally to do this? It's arguably uglier to follow, and might there be any other side effects? One problem I can see is that each time fail is called, we lose the ability to pass anything back to the calling predicate, eg. if it was methodtwo(SeasonResults), since we continually fail the predicate on purpose. So methodtwo would need to assert facts to store state. Presumably(?) method 2 would be faster as it has no (large) list processing to do? I could imagine that if I had a list, then methodone would be the way to go.. or is that always true? Might it make sense in any conditions to assert the list to facts using methodone then process them using method two? Complete madness? But then again, I read that asserting facts is a very 'expensive' business, so list handling might be the way to go, even for large lists? Any thoughts?   • Confusion over manual/automatic sizing of Flash Sprite Objects

    If I have a custom class subclassing Sprite and it draws some simple objects, how does this work with respect to the Sprite.width & Sprite.height properties? It seems I can draw (for example) a rectangle of any size, bigger than the Sprite size. Similarly if I set the width/height properties, what happens to the content already drawn? As a use-case, I might have a stick-man which is drawn as a set of lines, I want to set the man's height and the rendering is scaled to this. Are there any issues with width/height being auto-calculated or am I misunderstanding what these properties actually mean?

But after update can't enable 3d monitor, only 2 could be enabled at the same time. Did current things before write question here: Remove all drivers, reboots, re-installs Different cable input's and orders of enabling Tried to enable each monitor from Catalyst and Windows Screen Resolution Spec's: Windows 8.1 Pro XFX HD7970 3 of LG E2442 Cables: 2 DVI 1 HDMI Googled for many time and found one of possible solution is to buy ACTIVE mini DisplayPort to DVI/HDMI, but maybe there are some another more simple solutions?

  • Do I make the correct difference between spwan-cgi and mod_fcgi

    First of all im configuring an webserver with nginx and apache2 working together. Having only nginx is no options for me, neither is lighttdp. I am reading a tutorial 'Nginx -Apache -Proxy configuration on Centos-Plesk server' where this is exaplained in some detail. One thing i don't really understand. They are talking about installing spawn-fcgi to spawn the fastcgi process. Now if i understand this correct this program is only for nginx apache will run as normal. Apache will just run the mod_php5.c. If i want to have apache also work as fastcgi i have to confirgure that seperately, and let apache use mod_fcgi. Do I have this correct or am I talking utter nonsense. Nginx usses spawn-cgi as frontend Apache usses mod_fcgi in the back Inbetween there is a proxy that ports port 80(nginx) to port 8080(apache)

  • What is the correct dependency rpm for libcurl.so.3

    So I have a failed dependency and I am having trouble downloading the correct rpm. The error is libcurl.so.3()(64bit) is needed. I have Centos 6 and I have looking in this site for the correct rpm. The problem though is, and this is another place where linux fails in being intuitive, is that the rpm name is different than the dependency name. So it might be a curl3 rpm or a libcurl3 rpm or I have no idea. Anyone know which one it is?

    I'm trying to setup a batch file to execute a set of stored procs and dump the output to a timestamped text file. I'm having problems finding the correct format for the timestamp. Here is what I'm using osql.exe -S <server> -E -Q "EXEC <stored procedure> " -o "c:\filename_%date:~-0,10%_%time:~-0,10%.txt" The error I get is: Cannot open output file - x:\filename_Thu 06/25/_16:26:43.1.txt No such file or directory I can't find the documentation and I've played around with it but can't find the correct format.
