  • Explorer's preview push Word in background window

    I have a Windows 7 computer which have a strange behavior: when preview is enabled in explorer, I double-click on any Word document, Word is launched, the document is loaded, and immediatly explorer is in the foreground window (so Word is in the background). The whole process take less than one second. Only with Word. Not Excel or anything. Only on one computer (5 others are identical and installed the same day).

  • AutoHotKey script not recognizing Windows Explorer

    I've made a script that will set an environment variable to the path in the current Explorer windows when its hotkey is pressed. However, I want this to only trigger if the active window is an Explorer window. This should do it: #IfWinActive ahk_class ExploreWClass|CabinetWClass #p:: SetPath() return #IfWinActive But for some reason it isn't. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

  • dsl modem problem in ubuntu 11.10

    Earlier I used Windows 7 and the modem used to work absolutely fine. Even when it disconnected it used to reconnect automatically without any trouble. But then I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on dual boot and set up the modem connection properly but the modem now disconnects much more frequently(eariler it disconnected once in 5 hours or so and after ubuntu in 5 minutes!!). Also once disconnected it does not reconnect even when i have checked the connect automatically button. I have to restart the system to reconnect it. Also then I clean installed windows and modem works perfectly fine again. What is the reason for this and how can I solve this? I really want to use ubuntu but due to this problem I cant. Sorry for my poor English.

  • Domain forwarding to a IE "trusted site" opens a blank page

    My employer, a University, regularly hosts conferences and other events. While websites for these sites are hosted on our domain, they frequently request customized .com urls. We then forward these domains to the specific site. Recently, we discovered a problem, where a page will not load if the following conditions are met(using a current example): website is created on our CMS for a conference http://continue.weber.edu/nulc a domain is created http://www.nulc2012.com and forwarded to http://continue.weber.edu/nulc The user enters http://www.nulc2012.com into their address bar using IE7 or IE8 The user has *.weber.edu listed as a "trusted site" in IE security settings (the case for nearly all on-campus computers) When this happens, their browser will correctly transfer to the page http://continue.weber.edu/nulc/index.php, however the page is blank, returning only: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv=Content-Type></HEAD> <BODY></BODY></HTML> Is there any know solution to this problem? Or am I missing something completely? Note: Tested websites do load correctly in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari

  • Can't get lines around table borders/cells [migrated]

    I have several web pages containing tables, for which I'd like to have line-borders around the tables and the cells. In fact, some of these pages existed for several years already, and rendered acceptly in IE6, IE7. We switched about 6 months ago to a completely different set of style sheets to change our site look and feel. We also switched to "modern" browsers such as IE8 (and because I couldn't stop Vista) to IE9. Now the borders don't render at all. I spent a day fighting with this about a month ago, and failed to fix it. It seemed that I could reduce the page down to just the barest table and IE8 would still not render the border. I think I decided IE8 was just buggy, but I'm not an HTML expert so it is more likely that I'm buggy. (I'm just getting back to this; I'll go see if I can find that reduced page).   • Why are Win7 IE browers running in IE7 mode?

    On our site we currently have approx. 50% of our IE7 users running Windows 7. However, Win7 was released with IE8 meaning that something is not right. Based on this, we made the assumption that the modern IE browsers enter IE7 compatibility mode on our site. So we placed the "X-UA-Compatible=edge" meta tag on our site in hope to kill off IE7 support. However, after a week, the percentage of IE7 (and IE8) users have gone up for the first time since the start of this year. When looking at the X-UA-Compatible documentation, it is meant to be used for putting your site into an older mode. Is there any other way to make sure that IE doesn't enter compatibility mode? Is there something else we need to look for? And yes, we have so many users on our site that we can't kill off IE7 until it goes down under 2% of unique visitors. EDIT: We use <!doctype html> EDIT2: We haven't been able to reproduce the compatibility mode in our environments either

  • Some notebooks can connect to internet via certain wireless router, some can't

    I take a class in the building of a business and we sometimes use their internet via Wi-Fi. In the last few weeks, though, some notebooks haven't been able to connect to the internet even though they are connected to the router. It affected first a few of us and then all of us. Last week I tweaked around the network settings on the router (yes, the admin password is the same as the network key) and even moved the internet cable on the router from port 1 to the internet port. None of this really worked so I put things more or less back as I found them and alerted someone that someone who knew more than me had better have a look at the router. So, I don't know if anybody has had a look at it but now 2 of us can again connect to the internet. I had a look at the router settings last week and I really couldn't see what might be creating this issue. What might be the problem?

    At home, we have a router. From router goes the internet connection into the desktop PC (Windows 7) and Macbook Pro. The problem is, that on Mac OS is incredibly slow internet connection - is not possible to use the laptop for surfing on the internet. The same as for WiFi as for cable. On the PC with Windows 7 is working the internet connection properly. Is there any tool for testing, if on my Mac is a virus or just something, what slowing down the internet connection?   • mshtml.dll latest version for Internet Explorer 8, Windows XP Service Pack 3

    Many applications in my system (Internet Explorer 8, Yahoo Messenger, Skype 10) are crashing and error details shows module name mshtml.dll. I checked the version of mshtml.dll in system32 folder. It is 8.0.6001.19170. My Internet Explorer version is 8.0.6001.18702. I am not concerned about crash of IE, because I generally use Firefox, but how do I solve the crashes in other applications, which are due to mshtml.dll? I have moved to Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32 bit). I have tried to update Internet Explorer 8 (from Tools-Windows Update), but again it crashes. I can not migrate to IE 9, as it requires Vista or Windows 7. I have applied Cumulative Security update for IE8, which has this file name: IE8-WindowsXP-KB2618444-x86-ENU.exe I could not get much info from Microsoft sites or Google. I do not want to use Automatic Updates feature of Windows. Can somebody give the download links for mshtml.dll and any associated files, which I can replace in system32 folder? Thanks.

  • TortoiseSVN client slows Explorer to a crawl in Windows XP running in Parallels

    I thought I'd make my first SuperUser question relatively simple, though it's the kind of question that may not get many responses as I'm not directly involved with the issue. A colleague does his development in Windows XP running in Parallels on his Mac. We've just migrated our VSS repository to SVN, and we've gone with TortoiseSVN as our client of choice with the Ankhsvn plugin for Visual Studio. On his XP instance, after installing TortoiseSVN, browsing through folders using Explorer is extremely slow; about 15 - 30 seconds before the contents of the next folder displays. It's the slowest when opening My Computer. Once he reaches a folder that contains the working content of an SVN project, Explorer behaves quickly again as expected. It seems that TortoiseSVN may be spending a bunch of time searching subfolders for stuff so it can do its icon-overlay thing, but that's just a guess. I've used TortoiseSVN for years on both XP and Vista on far less powerful machines without any issues with Explorer, so I'm attributing the slowness to it being run in a VM, though that may not be the actual issue. So has anyone encountered similar performance issues, and/or know of a fix? Keep in mind that any requests to make changes to his configuration will need to be communicated and thus my response time might be slow. Thanks everyone!

  • Windows Explorer Keeps On Crashing

    Hey Folks. I'm lost... I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. My Pc is up to date(windows updates) and I've used Winutilities to scan my registry. My explorer.exe keeps on crashing. Just randomly it seems. I don't even need to be doing anything particular. I do have experience with pc in general as I'm a software developer. I know you will require additional info, but i don't know what, so just leave a comment and I'll update. Additional info I think i should also mention that explorer is the only app that crashes on my pc.   • Router not connecting to the internet

    I had a weird problem this morning with my router - it's an Alice Gate VoIP 2 Plus WI-FI - not connecting to the internet after more or less 1 hour online (I'm always connected with the ethernet cable). The led status lights for Power, WI-FI, ADSL, Internet, Service should be on in order to be connected and navigate online. The problem was that the leds ADSL, Internet were off and I did not know why because it never happened before. I looked at the stats in the settings and the numbers for Bytes/Packages for both Sent/Received were there and increasing but I couldn't connect to the internet. I called tech support, they checked and told me to keep the router on for 48 hours because they were checking it. I've reset it twice before and after I called tech support and it still did not work so after about 2 hours of waiting I tried connecting using WI-FI and the leds 'magically' turned on, first the ADSL and Internet(Internet led always turns on last). At this point I'm curious what could of caused this and I'm doubting that the tech-support guys did something. What could of been the problem with the ethernet cable not connecting in the first place? It always works. What do the tech support guys normally do when they tell me to keep the router on so they can 'check it'? PS: I'm using ubuntu 32 bit

    Dear all, This is not a programming issue, just want to ask any one having Internet Explorer Javascript disabled issue. I try go to Internet Option enable everything, including javascript restart it. But all the javascript still disabled. I go to jQuery API website, test the javascript, at the Demo part nothing show. Even I write a alert("hello"); in a html file, nothing come out. I am not sure what happen to my Internet Explorer. Initially I am using IE8, I try to update to IE9Beta, IE9RC, the problem start from IE8-IE9RC still haven't resolved. I am not sure what application crash with the IE. Please advice! It is Urgent.   • Internet Explorer cannot download rss.php

    Whenever I try to go to an RSS feed in IE7 directly, I get a very strange error. IE 7 tries to download the page, but fails. It throws an error, Internet Explorer cannot download rss.php from www.example.com. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. But when I click a link to view the same feed, it doesn't throw an error but displays the XML instead. Are there any ways I caan fix this, that don't involve OS hacks? Also, if I try to put an xsl stylesheet on it, it tries to download the file no matter what and still errors.

  • "javascript: void(0)" links sometimes break event handlers in internet explorer

    A while back I ran in to a problem where after clicking an anchor with "javascript: void(0)" events just stopped firing. I read that following a link puts the page in a different state and in that different state events don't fire. Even though the link is not real, it sometimes confuses IE. Anyway, I removed the "javascript: void(0)"'s and the problem has not been seen again. Now, in a different application I am seeing the same thing... kinda. Clicking the "javascript: void(0)" sometimes has no ill effect. But then for some reason or another after clicking the bad link the page will stop working. Once this happens it will continue to happen consistently until the client machine is rebooted. After reboot, you are back to it sometimes happening. Crazy right? Reboot fixing a web page!?!?! So, my question is has anyone seen this before? Can anyone give an explanation for this issue? Any documentation on this issue? I can't seem to find anything on it again. Does this even make sense? I already know "javascript: void(0)" is bad practice... I am just looking to understand the issue. Specifically, this is IE7. Thanks for reading!
