• How do I install on an UEFI Asus 1215b netbook?

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 on a UEFI netbook Asus 1215b using an USB stick. I created a fat32 efi partition of 100MB, 2GB swap, and 2 ext4 partitions (for root (/ ) and /home, respectively). While installing, Ubuntu switches to CLI and starts running efibootmgr. After a few commands (sadly I don't have a screen grab), it stops displaying text but it's still running judging by the HDD led. Then, there's a weird graphic glitch and the screen turns off (HDD led still indicating activity). Finally, it just stops, but doesn't turn off. Not even a hard reboot works (holding down the power button a few secs). I have to plug the netbook off and remove the battery. After that, it still doesn't boot Ubuntu... Anyway, what can I do? I'm considering following the footsteps here and here. • Bluetooth is always on after waking from hibernate

  I have a problem that whenever my machine, Lenovo W520, wakes from hibernate the bluetooth starts. It does not matter what the situation was before hibernate. After hibernate the bluetooth is always on. Even in bluetooth settings it says that the bluetooth is off, but I can clearly see that the bluetooth LED is on. I would like to know what the problem is.   Closely related to: Foreign key restrictions -> yes or no? I asked a question on SO and it led me to ask this here. If I'm faced with a choice of having a circular reference or just not enforcing the restraint, which is the better choice? In my particular case I have customers and addresses. I want an address to have a reference to a customer and I want each customer to have a default billing address id and a default shipping address id. I might query for all addresses that have a certain customer ID or I might query for the address with the ID that matches the default shipping or billing address ids. I'm not sure yet how the constraints (or lack of) will effect the system as my application and it's data age.

• Is there a simple, safe way to trigger a GPU lockup on a susceptible computer?

  Answers to my previous question, Ubuntu 12.04 froze, requiring powercycle. What should I look / grep for in the logs?, have led me to suspect that my computer is experiencing an intermittent GPU lockup. It has been happening about once a week, usually when I am using Chrome. Today it happened when I was creating a diagram on lucidchart I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT and dual monitors running in Xinerama mode. I am using 12.04 with the proprietary ATI driver installed. When the computer locks-up, I can still ssh in. And I would like to follow the instructions on reporting this provided at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze Is there a (safe) way to cause a GPU lockup so that I can go ahead and file a bug, rather than waiting until it happens again?

• How can I prevent Google mistakenly offering to translate a page?

  Several of my site's pages are appearing in search results with [Translate this page] next to it. When I click that it takes me to Google Translate and translates my page "from Catalan to English". The pages are in English but have a couple of foreign words (actually Japanese romanisations, not Catalan) that appear to be tripping Google up. A few weeks ago I set the html tag to <html lang="en"> which from research appears to be the best method to specify the language of a document. Google has cached the pages with this attribute but it is still offering to translate. More research led me to a "notranslate" attribute which prevents translation entirely: <html lang="en" class="notranslate">. The problem now is users cannot translate from English to their desired language! Are there any other solutions that force Google to parse my site as English only?

• Suspend fails (reboot on resume) and no hibernate option

  Upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 removed hibernate option for me and introduced the problem where by after entering standby (being indicated by blinking amber LED on my laptop) I cannot resume my session. Instead I get a crash and system reboots (crash comes instantly on trying to resume). Tried clean install to eliminate possibility of an upgrade issue but its still persistent. All latest updates installed. Tried looking for an answer to this but still no joy. Laptop is Sony VGN-FW41E.

• Mouse Not Working on Boot

  I have seen several topics regarding this situation, but none of them truly address my issue (that, or there are no answers that solve the issue.) Upon booting into Ubuntu 12.04.1 x64 my mouse wired USB mouse (Steelseries Sensei if that makes any difference) either doesn't work or stops working immediately after the grub menu, prior to the login screen appearing. The cursor is present, but obviously not reactive to any mouse movement; even the LED on my mouse turns off (or fails to turn on.) The only way I've found to activate the mouse is to restart the computer, and even then it's 50/50 at best as to whether or not the mouse will be powered. This issue has never happened in Windows 7, so the mouse is operating properly on the hardware and connection side. Forgive my ignorance of Ubuntu (and Linux in general), but I was hopeful that someone would have some suggestions, or could at least instruct me on what to check in order to provide any further information for diagnoses.

I opened the known_hosts file, and other han understanding that the file contains fingerprints for a given machine, I dont understand anything. Below is the message I faced, which led me to ask this question. Add correct host key in /home/wissen16/.ssh/known_hosts to get rid of this message. Offending key in /home/wissen16/.ssh/known_hosts:1 RSA host key for foo.com has changed and you have requested strict checking. Host key verification failed. Thanks.

• Current state of the art for holographic displays?

  In another thread I was asking about independent arcade system development, and partly it was because I'm interested in using available 3D holographic technology for the displays. I saw one which involved a rotating mirror at very high speeds, so that's probably not going to be too feasible (I'd hate to think of what happens when something goes wrong). • Strange 401 (Unauthorized) when calling a WCF Service

  A WCF Service we call from BizTalk using WCF BasicHTTP usually works fine but all of a sudden it started returning 401 errors for some calls while others continued working as expected so it could not have been a "real" 401. The difference was the size of the message. One parameter of the service is a rather complex object. In the cases we got a 401 it got quite big (containing a lot of customer-data), say 5 MB. So we turned on tracking. The messages we traced out where about 20MB. Not too big for WCF one should suppose... A bit of research led us to increasing maxItemsInObjectGraph in the behaviours but that did not help. The service we call is in the same network as we are and is a WCF service. So we tried changing from BasicHTTP to net.tcp and Bingo! Ok, we had to use CustomBinding in BizTalk to set all the Quotas, etc. but it worked in the end.

• Java EE@Princeton Java Meetup

• Faulty memtest result

  I've been a bit suspicious about my RAM lately. They seem not work like i expect them to. For instance i run a lot of Virtual Test Environments in VMware Workstation and lately Ubuntu starts to lag just running 4 virtual machines each dedicated 512 MB. BTW im having 6GB memory on my laptop. This did not use to be a problem for me on my last laptop that even had a lot lower CPU resources. So i was led to try a memtest after reading some websites about RAM testing. So i did a memtest overnight but when i woke up this morning i was just looping and i could not Exit or do anything. It was just looping the number of errors besides test 7 which you can see in the lower right part of the screenshot. Can anyone interpret this screenshot for me? Do i have a faulty set of RAMs?
