  I have 2 HDs in my machine: Drive 1 with grub and my Windows XP OS Drive 2 with only Ubuntu 9.04 I would like to be able to boot directly from drive 2. I am missing grub on drive 2... how do I add it? EDIT: I ended up reinstalling the whole OS.

• Raspberry Pi can't see external hard drive

  My Raspberry Pi (Model B) can't see my external hard drive. It was working before without a problem, until I disconnected and reconnected the drive. It is a self-powered hard drive. When I put another image on a different SD card the Raspberry Pi can see the hard drive no problem, so there is some sort of configuration issue in the current image on the SD card. Any advice will be gratefully received.

The “Set up offline viewing of Google Docs” dialog will appear Step 3:  Authorize Google Chrome to store your Google Drive content by clicking on “Allow offline docs” and then install “Docs Chrome web app” by clicking on “Install from Chrome web store”. You’ll be taken to the Chrome web store, where you’ll need to click Install on the right-hand side of the browser window. Step 4: Once the app is installed, you’ll be taken to a Chrome page with the Google Docs app icon. Click the icon to go back to your Documents List. • Installing Ubuntu Desktop on usb stick

  trying to install Ubuntu Desktop on a USB stick but I do not succeed. First time I tried, the USB stick contained an installation of USB server and I wanted to start over again. However, it complained about partioning. Removed all the partitions from the stick and tried again, hoping that the installer would help me out with partioning... But now the USB stick did not show up at all... Created one partion NTFS on the USB stick and tried again but the only "automated" alternative I get for installing is to overwrite or add Ubuntu to my HDD which already contains Windows, something that I do not want... Do I need to manually create partions on the stick in the installer? Which partitions should I create? The USB stick is 8GB and the machine that I will test it on has 8GB memory.   I'm trying to install Ubuntu on a Samsung ultrabook via a usb stick. I've tried 12.04 both regular and alternate on 3 different USB sticks but not having success. The laptop just keeps booting into windows. I used unetbootin to create the USB image as this worked for when when doing a toshiba ultrabook installation. I reset my Boot Menu to be 1 USB HDD 2 USB CD 3 USB FDD 4 SATA HDD SanDisk SSD u100 128GB Then F10'd but no success, still boots windows. I've tried changing UEFI boot support to be enabled and I've tried changing PXE OPROM to be enabled but neither has helped.

  I am using Beagleboard-xm with 3.12 Kernel and ubuntu rootfs from Robert Nelson's site. I use a Telit HE910 GPS+GSM modem along with my project .So as per the HW user guide i have to apply a logic high for 5s on the input of this modem for enabling it So when I does this by toggling the gpio pin for 5s using a script I'm getting some messages on the terminal I am sure this message comes from the driver in usb/class/cdc-acm.c but couldn't find the reason behind this? • Tool to test USB sticks?

  Some of the files I copy to a USB stick seems to be corrupted? Maybe the stick is bad but I haven't used it much and want to know for sure. Is there a Windows utility to test the stick? Mark bad areas as bad so the file system doesn't save to them? I format before I copy but I still get corrupted files? Does chkdsk work on USB sticks reliably?

  I have two devices I want maximum throughput and latency with. (Midi drums and midi keyboard for example) Would connecting both to the same USB port via a hub effectively limit the maximum data transfer rate to 1/2 to each of them? I am assuming yes, but I didn't know if USB hubs had a handshaking and priority giving protocol available (e.g. let the device with the longer built up buffer of data communicate first) Thanks

• IDE <-> SATA Adapter Issue - Hard Drive Not recognized

  I was trying to use one of these IDE to SATA adapters (Syba SD-ADA50016 IDE/SATA Converter Bi-directional IDE to SATA) and I connected a working hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 500 GB SATA 3.5 Inch 7200 RPM Version 12 Desktop Internal Hard Drive ST3500418AS). I could get the drive to be recognized by the BIOS, but I couldn't boot a Linux disc or install to the drive. I tried to install pfSense to this drive and the install failed because the setup couldn't recognize the file. Has anyone heard of these adapters giving trouble and/or not working properly? I would like to be able to use this device for newer drives on older boards.

  I am looking to create a USB flash drive that I can put multiple LiveCD iso's on and select which boots from startup. The ideal candidate supports linux and windows based iso's, and is relatively simple. It also must have some reasonable process for adding and removing iso from the drive/list. Things that I'm not looking for this specific question: UBCD or other swiss-army knife livecd's. The point is to boot any one of multiple CD's, not to boot a (certainly useful) utility CD. Installing a single LiveCD to a USB drive. I'd like to have multiple iso images, selectable at startup. I don't have a specific purpose in mind, possibilties include a single drive with a knoppix variant, ubuntu desktop, UBCD for dos, UBCD4Win, the Offline NT Password Cracker, etc. Flexible and easy to use are the name of the game!

The very next day, the drive wouldn't show up in My Computer and Windows gave him error code 43 (Unknown device). I tried others few systems that once detected his flash drive but the problem still persisted. I don't know whether or not his flash drive is damaged but when plug/un-plugging, there are still sounds coming out though. Tried solutions: [On Vista Home Premium/HIS COME]Uninstalled -- Restarted com -- Re-installed (ERROR 43) [Windows 7/MY COM] Uninstalled --- Restarted com --- Can't install (ERROR 43) It seems that my com (Windows 7) had the lastest drivers already but still can't detect it. • External hard drive doesn't appear in Computer

  I cannot work out why this is happening. I have an external hard drive (which is an old laptop hard drive with an IDE to USB adapter). Plugging it into my computer powers it up. It spins correctly and the lights on the adapter flash normally. Uninstalling from hardware manager and plugging it back in causes Windows to "install new software", and it says it has installed properly. In Disk Management it comes up in the bottom part as Disk 2 with the right size (~60 GB), but not in the top half. There are three empty drives in the top half. They don't have titles or drive letters. Right clicking them bring up slightly varying context menus, but all with the options disabled. Here is a picture of my Disk Management screen: How do I make this drive show up in My Computer? I need to format it and use it as an external hard drive.

• Partition Bootable Flash Drive

  I created a bootable flash drive with Chromium OS installed on it. However, Chromium OS only needs about 4GB of space, and my flash drive is 8GB. I wanted to make the rest of the 4GB a FAT32 partition, but when I look at GParted, I have 12 different partitions on the flash drive with unallocated space scattered everywhere. I made the bootable flash drive with Ubuntu Linux's usb-imagecreator I run Ubuntu Linux 11.04 x86_64 and Windows 7 Professional x64 If any of you have experience with this, any help would be appreciated. • External USB disk drive cannot be remounted in Windows XP

  I have Maxtor Basics Desktop 1TB external USB drive connected to Windows XP. The dirve's firmware puts it to sleep after 10-20 min of inactivity and then the drive cannot be mounted unless I reset it via power connector. While in sleep mode I can see the device in the Device Manager under both Disk drives and USB sections. Is there a way to get the drive out of sleep mode without hard reset? Thanks

  Windows 7 loses its drive letters and I have to keep manually assigning a drive letter everytime I plug in a hard drive, whether it's internal or external. The only way to get around it is to reinstall Windows 7 but the problem will come back after a few months. We are a PC repair company and plug in many drives during the say and it can be very frustrating having to keep assigning a drive letter every time a drive is plugged in. Windows Updates are turned off so it can't be that. Any reason why this would have happened?

  I can access the server in safe mode. I have a Proliant 360 Hp server with Windows server 2003 R2. The event viewer is completely filled up with this error: the driver detected a controller error on Device\Harddisk3\DR3 I individuated the drive affected. It is drive H that is a secondary non mirrored drive. When I access anything on that drive I receive: "the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" What should I do? Is this just a driver issue or a hard drive failure? Please give me a quick help as my websites are offline due to this. Any suggestion is welcome!

• Vista is showing contents of flash drive that was previously connected

  Today, after I clicked "folder X" in my external hard drive, instead of seeing the contents of "folder X", I see the contents of my flash drive (the last time it was connected)...which is not connected to my computer. My flash drive's files show for a couple of seconds before I am brought to "folder X" which was the folder I wanted to go to as mentioned in the beginning of this post. Any idea why this happened? I'm using Vista 32-bit business edition.

  There's this school software on a USB drive. It only runs, when the stick they gave is plugged in. Cloning the drive with dd command didn't work. I'm guessing it checks the hardware ID of the flash drive. Is there any way to change drives information? I guess not, but is it possible to create a virtual flash drive with exactly same hardware id and all other read-only information that the software is most probably checking. EDIT: The paper math books we have dont' have answers. So when I'm doing homework I have no idea if did it right. The electronic version does have the answers. The publisher didn't put them into paper version because of simple reason - money. They would have to republish the book if some answers are found to be wrong. So I feel no shame trying to pirate that software, because publishers are ruining our math education.
