  • How do I add a Rigid body and a box collider component to a Texture2D?

    - by gamenewdev
I am making a snake game. I'm basing it on a basic tutorial game, which does no collision detection, wall checking or different levels. All snake head, piece, food, even the background is made of Texture2D. I want the head of the snake to detects 2D collisions with them, but Rect.contains isn't working. I'd prefer to detect collisions by onTriggerEnter() for which I need to add BoxCollider to my snakeHead.

  • Would there be any negative side-effects of sharing /var/cache/apt/ between two systems?

    - by ændrük
In the interest of conserving bandwidth, I'm considering mounting a VirtualBox host's /var/cache/apt as /var/cache/apt in the guest. Both host and guest are Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit. Would there be any negative consequences to doing this? I'm aware of the more robust solutions like apt-proxy, but I'd prefer this simpler solution if it's possible in order to spare the host the overhead of running extra services.

I am aware that the HTC already works with it but i would prefer to buy the samsung. I already have the phone hardware specifications and have checked but i am not sure with the samsung or the nexus. So which of these phones work for Ubuntu 12.04's 'Ubuntu for Android' feature?

  • Do you know a good web CMS to manage a sports team?

    - by benjamin'''''42
I'm looking for a web based CMS that enables me to manage a sport team, I need the following features: Calendar** Schedule events (sync with the calendar, RSS feed), it would be great if I could schedule a weekly event too, so that I don't have to schedule it by hand each week** Announcements (same RSS feed as events)** A place where I can put some documentation, rules** Keep track of the matches and scores Photo and video gallery ** means feature is required; otherwise optional Any technology for the CMS is probably fine, though I would prefer an SQLite-based CMS.

  • Save File Contents to Variable in Python3.3 [migrated]

    - by Neo_Programmer
I have a Python3.3 script that seems to not work. The script will search for an XML pattern and then print the results to the screen. I am using Ubuntu 12.10 (AMD64) and python3.3. I prefer to use regex with XML, so please disregard this unconventional form of programming. #!/usr/bin/python3.3 import io, re openfile = open('./temp/xaiml/temp_db1.xaiml', 'r') TEMPDB = openfile.read() OUTPUT = print(''.join(re.findall('<cgy><prn>.*_.*<\/prn>.*<\/cgy>', TEMPDB, flags=re.I)))

  • Recommended readings for a sofware construction mini-course [on hold]

    - by Aivar
I'm going to organize a mini-course for CS students who have completed CS1 (Python) and CS2 (Java). I'd like to show them more principled approach to programming practice and design, something along the lines of McConnel's Code Complete. If I had enough copies of Code Complete, I would assign some readings from that book. Can you recommend some freely available material (books, blog posts, articles, essays) for such a course? (I'd prefer to avoid topics specific to OOP and focus on more universal principles.)

  • How to install new system (with new applications) without removing /home

    - by Innuendo
I'd like to update to 11.04 from 10.10 (but I don't like upgrading system, I prefer full reinstalling) I'd like to install whole new system, but I want to keep my /home folders (Music, Movies, Documents and so on). If I keep /home while installing - this will keep all my program settings too (but I have lots of trash there too, and 'd like to clean it too). Can I delete all .folders in /home and then reinstall system (keeping old /home) ?

  • Quality Backlinks Are Essential For Search Engine Optimization!

Quality backlinks are essential for search engine optimization. Backlinks are links that start on another website and they point to your page, which means that you have very low control on them. Many web developers prefer to go into negotiations when it comes to backlink building, discussing various matters and aspects with the web masters of the other sites.

  • Best approach to creating self-updating content - i.e. chat rooms, shoutboxes and so on

    - by Anonymous -
The only way I can think of to have a shoutbox or similar element update itself when somebody posts a new 'shout' and it needs to be loaded in everyone else's browsers is to have Javascript check every x seconds for any updates... This could get a bit resource intensive though I expect if many people were to leave their browsers open on the page, idling. Is this the only way or am I missing something? I've prefer to stick to only html, css, javascript (AJAX) and php.

  • Image captions and wrapping [migrated]

    - by Charles
What's the best way to add a caption below an image? The image and its caption will be floated right, and the text on the caption needs to wrap -- a 200x200px image shouldn't have a caption of width 800px. I would strongly prefer a solution that allows me to update images (with different widths) without changing the CSS or markup. For reasons beyond my control the image itself will also be floated right, but this should not be too problematic.

  • Help yourself . if you like

    - by rachelp
At Red Gate we enjoy talking to our customers. Really! If you've read recent blog posts by members of some of our customer-facing teams, you'll have spotted the pleasure they take in their work. In case you missed those posts, here they are: From our Finance team: Finance: Friends, not foes! From our reception desk: The Front line of Communication However, we recognise that sometimes our customers would like to be able to solve their problems or answer their questions without talking to us - they're in a hurry, it's outside office hours . or perhaps they just prefer not to pick up the phone and call.   Self-service customer care So we've begun a programme of work to enable more self-service; whether it's finding the answer to a "how do i.?" question or getting access to a record of what product licenses they own, we want to make it much easier for our customers to get hold of this information for themselves. If they want to.   Phase 1: make it easier to find information We decided to start by tackling findability. We've got loads of useful information on our website, but it's sometimes difficult to find, so we've been working on improving our site search. Step 1 has been to replace the search engine, clean up the search UI, and make it consistent across the site. We're nearly there! The idea is that if we improve the site search it will be easier - and much more pleasant - for people to find the information they need. The new search will go live some time in April, and then we'll be gathering feedback, looking at web analytics (more about this in an earlier article), and working out what improvements we still need to make. We'd love to hear what you think, so do give your feedback or drop us a line. Or pick up the phone and call, if you like.   What do you think? While I've got your attention, I'd love to hear what people think about self-service customer care. Do you like to call, email, live chat . or do you prefer to dig around and find out answers yourself? Who's getting it right: what self-service sites do you like? p.s. Watch this space for news of phase 2.

  • Is there a canonical book on parallel programming with focus on C++ ?

    - by quant_dev
I am looking for a good book about parallel programming with focus on C++. Something suitable for a person reasonably good in C++ programming, but with no experience in concurrent software development. On the other hand, I'd prefer a practical book, without loads of silly examples about philosophers eating lunch. Is there a book out there that's the de-facto standard for describing best practices, design methodologies, and other helpful information on parallel programming with focus on C++ ? What about that book makes it special?

  • Middle mouse button stopped working after most recent update [10.04 LS]

    - by Vero
After the last time my Ubuntu 10.04 installed updates, my mouse middle button stopped working. The mouse is Toshiba and has three buttons (the middle one below the wheel). I activated the emulation in the meanwhile, but I prefer to keep using the button. I really don't know what update ruined it. Now I have kernel 2.6.32-43-generic. The only configuration file I found is: /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/05-evdev.conf

A example is like I like C# (It's My First Language) and I'm really good at it and used to how it works, I'm not as good with C++ but I'm kinda slow at it because I don't prefer how you systems work like I think int a[] is not as good as int[] a. • Localising Your SEO - How to Do This Successfully

Getting to the top of the search engines for some businesses and niches can be easier than others, but sometimes it is better to concentrate your Search Engine Optimisation efforts on local searches, especially if your products are more suited to a local base. Not only is this easier than going for the national searches, it means your conversion is going to usually be higher due to the fact that local people generally prefer to purchase or use services from local businesses.
