• Print job leaves queue but document isn't printed

  I'm dealing with an HP Deskjet F380 All-in-One printer. It's connected via USB to a desktop running Windows 7 Enterprise x64. If I attempt to print something like a web page or a word document, the print job will show up in the print queue and the printer would stir. By stir, I mean, it would seem to prepare itself to print. However, the print job would then leave queue (I'm thinking the computer sees it as completed) and the printer would never actually print anything. However I went into Printers and Devices under the Windows start menu, into printer properties, and print a test page, the test page would print out successfully. I attempted to uninstall and re-install the printer drivers for the printer, but the printer would continue the same behavior afterwards. I also connected the printer to another computer and the printer will print just about anything. I also checked to make sure that the computer the printer needs to be connected to was update to date as far as the OS. The machine is fully up to date. I played with the way the computer handles printer spooling. Under the printer properties, under the "Advanced" tab, I had the print job print directly to the printer. In all these instances, the same behavior continues. I've restarted the printer spooling service. I've also gone under C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and deleted files that were sitting in the folder. I have ran SFC /scannnow and the system found no errors in the system's integrity. I had the computer and printer make a cold reboot individually. The only lead I really have going for me is that since the printer prints on other PCs, I can only assume that there is something wrong with the way the PC is configured.

• Atheros wireless not working

  I have been struggling hard since i have installed Ubuntu 10.10 but it has been difficult for me to get my wifi working. So here is what i tried. First i checked whether i have the driver using the ifconfig command and it shows the wireless lan driver as wlan0. Next, i tried the command iwlist wlan0 scanning by becoming the root which gave me the output as no scan results. Next, i visited this link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Atheros to see as to what problem my laptop may have. I do own have an ath5k chipset. And as i followed the instructions in the above link in one of the blacklist-ath_pci.conf file had this written in it. For some Atheros 5K RF MACs, the madwifi driver loads buts fails to correctly initialize the hardware, leaving it in a state from which ath5k cannot recover. To prevent this condition, stop madwifi from loading by default. Use Jockey to select one driver or the other. (Ubuntu: #315056, #323830 I am not that good at Linux but i have given it a try. I am desperate to have my wifi working and i would be glad if this community could help. • Force windows video driver reload. Is it possible at all?

  Hi there, Some drivers use parameters written in the registry to configure themselves when they get loaded at boot time. I can modify those values and then reboot, but I would like to know if it is possible to force the driver reload, making the changes effective without rebooting. Specifically, I am talking about the video driver (nvidia). I read somewhere, that calling through pINvoke() [User32.ll]::ChangeDisplaySettings() with a 640x480x8bits resolution,(which is so low that it should not be supported by a modern driver) will force windows to load the "Standard VGA driver", and making another call with the current resolution will load the nvidia driver again. This does not work though. At least in Windows 7, even if the low res is not displayed as "supported" the system reduces the screen to a little square in the center of the screen, showing the low res wihtout unloading the nvidia driver. So, is there any .NET/Win32 API, service to restart, or any way at all to force a video driver reload? Perhaps programatically disabling the device (as you could do from the Device Manager) and reenabling it again? Any idea? Thanks a lot.

• Microsoft signed driver appears as publisher not verfied

  Task at hand: Microsoft sign drivers on Win 7. I microsoft signed my driver package 3 times every time thinking I might have missed a step or something. However, I cannot seem to get rid of the Windows Security error message "Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software'. This is not the first time I have signed the driver packages. I was successfully able to sign other driver packages a few months ago. However, with this driver package I keep getting Windows security dialog box. Here's the procedure I follow - Create a new cat file using INF2CAT tool. Self sign the driver using a Versign Class 3 Public Primary Certification Authority - G5.cer. Run the microsoft tests on DTM Servers and clients with the devices that use this driver. Create WLK submission package. Self sign the cab file. Submit the package for certification. The catalog file that comes back after successfully passing tests says Name of signer "Microsoft Windows Hardware Comptibility Publisher". When I check the validity of signature using SignTool, it says the signature is vaild. However, when I try to install the driver with new signed catalog file the windows complain. Any ideas? Edit 11/12/2012: Reply to Eugene's comment Thanks for the help, Eugene. Yes. I did sign two other driver packages before. One of them was modified version of WinUSB driver. I am using the same certificate I used when I signed those two driver packages a few months ago. It costs $250 per signing from Microsoft. I would think that Microsoft would complain about it during certification if the certificate is wrong. I use the following command to self sign the CAT file.   I have a small problem when I reinstalled my notebook with Windows 7 or Windows XP home edition. the problem is I can't reboot my system if I didn't install display driver (ATI-Radeon). I can't reboot my system because of the restart's button on shut down menu disappear, thats mean the system cant be rebooting. And when I install display driver, the reboot button in shutdown menu will be appear, thats mean I cant access reboot menu. I just want to know, Why does it happen? Does the display driver have influence with the reboot process?

• Sony Ericsson Windows driver problem

  I've installed Update Service and MediaGo for my Sony Ericsson phone but one of the drivers that was installed along with the software is causing problems in Windows 7 x64. Looking in the Event Log I see the following warning: Detected unrecognized USB driver (\Driver\seehcri) This is the driver corresponding to the Sony Ericsson seehcri Control Device. The failure to recognize the USB driver is causing problems with other services, namely the VMware USB Arbitration Service. It should normally start automatically but, due to the failure to recognize the seehcri USB driver, it fails with the following error: Error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning. Disabling the driver has not helped at all. The VMWare service still refuses to start and I keep getting both warnings in the Event Log. I would like to remove the Sony Ericsson driver but unfortunately, that's not possible. Uninstalling the Sony Ericsson seehcri Control Device from Device Manager causes Windows to almost completely freeze up while trying to look for drivers for unrecognized hardware. Windows tries over and over again to locate and install drivers for an Unknown device, failing every time. Looking in Device Manager, it simply fills up with hundreds of unknown devices, also using up the CPU to almost 85% in the process. What should I do? How can I safely remove the driver without causing Windows to look for a new driver?

• SATA Driver for Acer Aspire One D257

  i have a Acer Aspire One D257. In this netbook the hard disk is defect so i bought a new one. Now i want to reinstall Windows 7. Im using an external DVD Drive plugged into USB. The Windows 7 DVD is staring, Win7 setup is starting and when it comes to Hard Drive options it says that no drive was detected and i should try search for drivers. It shows me this window: Screenshot from web Now i cant find the right drivers for this netbook to continue with the installation. The laptop has the newest BIOS - 1.15, it is reset to factory default settings except that i enabled the Boot Menu prompt with F12. From the Acer Support Website i've downloaded the SATA AHCI Driver and the Chipset Driver. I unpacked both to a USB flashdrive in seperate folders. When i select the SATA AHCI Driver it does not find any drivers. When i uncheck the checkbox "Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer" it shows one driver: Acer HWID (path_to\1.inf). When i continue with this driver i got an error message that says something like: No new devices found. Check if the driver files are on the installation disk. When i show him the Chipset Driver it sees a lot more driver. When i uncheck the checkbox "Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer" it show some drivers: Intel N10 Family DMI Bridge Intel N10/ICH7 Family PCI Express Root Port Intel N10/ICH7 SMBUS Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family USB Universal Host Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family Interface LPC Controller When i uncheck this checkbox i get a lot more drivers, and some SATA Drivers but the also do not work. I get the same error message as before. Can someone help me find a driver that should work or am i doing anything else wrong?

• Can't upgrade NVIDIA GeForce 310M display driver on Acer Aspire 5745PG

  I've been for days already trying to update my video driver. I have an Acer Aspire 5745PG with a "NVIDIA GeForce 310M" board, and I was trying to run Sony Vegas video editor with Boris Continunn plugins. It happened that some of the plugins, like BCC Text Extrude wouldn't work, showing the message "Insufficient depth resolution to run Blue". I then read somewhere that updating the display driver would do the trick. That was when my nightmares started, I lost already good 3 nights trying to sort this out, without success :( The display driver that was before (and that I current have after restoring) was the version 8.16.11.8997. First thing I tried was downloading the 8.17.12.6619 driver directly from Acer, which was shown as the latest version from Acer website: http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=2466 Running it would say "Diver Package Failure - Setup failed to read the required Display Driver to be used with this package" I then tried directly the NVIDIA own driver, which the latest was version 296.10: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/296.10/296.10-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe That gave me similar error message :/ So after some researching I found out that some people had the same issue and they had to change the configuration file to allow the installer to recognize this NVIDIA board: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=222904 That topic said to look for the "Device Instance Id" property of the "NVIDIA GeForce 310M" display , which I couldn't find, instead I found the "Hardware Id", which seemed to be the right one. I followed the instructions and changed the inf file first for the Acer installation, and after for the NVIDIA own driver. It actually managed to go ahead with the installation in both instances, but the only thing I got was a black screen, while the computer still apeared to be running fine. I had to hard reset, and then it would come back with generic vga driver. I could only get my display back using the recovery function. I imagine thousands of this notebook was sold, and it can't have its driver updated?? Could someone help me with this?? Thanks Echo

• Known USB 2.0 devices don't install driver, but must be manually forced

  When a known USB 2.0 device is plugged in and detected, it doesn't install the driver correctly but shows a Code 28 error and lists the device under "Other Devices" in Device Manager. When view properties of this device , it shows the following status; The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver. When updating the driver manually and selecting the appropriate driver Windows doesn't believes it's the correct driver, but you can force the installation and it works! The other condition the driver will auto-install is when the same USB device is plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Power related issues are not also causing this as I have tried vi a Docking station, USB hub. etc..   My device /dev/my_inc is meant to take a positive integer N represented as an ascii string, and store it. Any read from /dev/my_inc will produce the ascii string representation of N + 1.   I'm searching for a tool that will take a source directory and produce a single PDF containing the source code, preferably with syntax highlighting. I would like to read the PDF on my phone, in order to get familiar with a code-base, or just to see what I can learn by reading a lot of code. I will most often be reading Ruby. I would prefer if the tool ran on Linux. I don't mind paying for a tool if it is particularly good. Any suggestions?

  I am receiving some strange begaviour in IE6 when printing a page. For some reason it is printing out parts of a CSS background image sprite. I have overridden all background-image declarations with: * {background-image:none !important;} But to no avail. I didn't think background images were supported by default anyways so this is a new one on me.

• Using an ODBC application with a JDBC driver

  My company uses Vertica. We have Python applications that connect to it with pyodbc. I do most of my development on a Mac (Snow Leopard) and unfortunately Vertica has not released ODBC drivers for Mac. They do have JDBC drivers though. I don't think developing in Jython is a good compromise. Is there any way to use JDBC drivers with an ODBC application? Some kind of ODBC connector?

  Hi. In my page there's only one image. Kind of 1500x3000 px. In the printer, I need that this image's maximum width to be the width of the page, so I did: width 100% in the css, and it works. But the height... the old bullshit of height 100% will never work. Because it always will be 100% of the parent container, then someone must have height defined. Or html or body. So, my question is: make this image fit in one page. Any ideas?

• Team Leaders & Authors - Manage and Report Workflow using "Print an Outline" in UPK

  Did you know you can "print an outline?" You can print any outline or portion of an outline. Why might you want to "print an outline" in UPK... Have you ever wondered how many topics you have recorded, how many of your topics are ready for review, or even better, how many topics are complete! Do you need to report your project status to management? Maybe you just like to have a copy of your outline to refer to during development. Included in this output is the outline structure as well as the layout defined in the Details View of the Outline Editor. To print an outline, you must open either a module or section in the Outline Editor. A set of default data columns is automatically included in the output; however, you can configure which columns you want to appear in the report by switching to the Details view and customizing the columns. (To learn more about customizing your columns refer to the Add and Remove Columns section of the Content Development.pdf guide) To print an outline from the Outline Editor: 1. Open a module or section document in the Outline Editor. 2. Expand the documents to display the details that you want included in the report. 3. On the File menu, choose Print and use the toolbar icons to print, view, or save the report to a file. Personally, I opt to save my outline in Microsoft Excel. Using the delivered features of Microsoft Excel you can add columns of information, such as development notes, to your outline or you can graph and chart your Project status. As mentioned above you can configure what columns you want to appear in the outline. When utilizing the Print an Outline feature in conjunction with the Managing Workflow features of the UPK Multi-user instance you as a Team Lead or Author can better report project status. Managing Workflow: The Properties toolpane contains special properties that allow authors to track document status or State as well as assign Document Ownership. Assign Content State The State property is an editable property for communicating the status of a document. This is particularly helpful when collaborating with other authors in a development team. Authors can assign a state to documents from the master list defined by the administrator. The default list of States includes (blank), Not Started, Draft, In Review, and Final. Administrators can customize the list by adding, deleting or renaming the values. To assign a State value to a document: 1. Make sure you are working online. 2. Display the Properties toolpane. 3. Select the document(s) to which you want to assign a state. Note: You can select multiple documents using the standard Windows selection keys (CTRL+click and SHIFT+click). 4. In the Workflow category, click in the State cell. 5. Select a value from the list. Assign Document Ownership In many enterprises, multiple authors often work together developing content in a team environment. Team leaders typically handle large projects by assigning specific development responsibilities to authors. The Owner property allows team leaders and authors to assign documents to themselves and other authors to track who is responsible for a specific document. You view and change document assignments for a document using the Owner property in the Properties toolpane. To assign a document owner: 1. Make sure you are working online. 2. On the View menu, choose Properties. 3. Select the document(s) to which you want to assign document responsibility. Note: You can select multiple documents using the standard Windows selection keys (CTRL+click and SHIFT+click). 4. In the Workflow category, click in the Owner cell. 5. Select a name from the list. • Canon Mx772 printer recognized, drivers loaded...but all print jobs "Held"

  BRAND NEW to Ubuntu but loving it so far. I have a Canon MX772 wireless printing running on my network and am able to print fine from a PC and Mac. Using the printers IP, Ubuntu was able to find it and I accepted all of the "recommended" items (it found a Canon MX770 driver). Everything seems to load fine...but the test page does not print, nor does any print commands make it to the printer. If I open the print dialogue jobs are shown as "held" and when I look at the jobs attributes, I see "Job printer state message=cannot specify model number" and then a few lines down "job state reasons=aborted by system". If I try to "resume" it immediately goes back to "held". I can successfully ping the IP of the printer. Would be very appreciative of other ideas...printing is the last check in the box before I am all set up. Thanks!

• How Do I Print Photos?

  Other than for Windows in Ubuntu there are no fancy utilities provided from printer manufacturers to print photos. I am aware of Gnome Photo Printer and of Photoprint, the first being easy to handle, the latter having more options. However I wonder if there are any other or maybe even better alternatives (including plugins) to perform the following tasks: Print photos in the best photo-resolution the driver offers Adjust paper size for standard values of photo papers Choose paper tray if the printer has more than one Print out multiple photos on one page including mixed sizes (grids) Multiple prints with same settings Borderless printing if the printer is capable of this Any additional options like pre-processing for color correction or noise reduction would be nice to have but are not so essential. Update According to this spec it seems not to so easy to accomplish the simple task of printing photos. Indeed all applications I have gone through have major drawbacks that make printing photos almost impossible. Below I will list what put me off using them for photo printing: Gnome Photo Printer: no thumbnails, no grids Photoprint: does not keep settings, GUI broken, no standard photo size, no thumbs Eye Of Gnome: no multiple pages, no grids Gimp + Images Grid Layout: far too many steps to finally find that prints are always different to their previews. F-Spot: no grids Picasa 3: no grids, very few fixed paper sizes, 300 dpi only flPhoto: strange GUI, no thumbs, no printer settings, did not print at all Windows: Ooops - everything works fine! But I want Ubuntu to do this! After half a pack of ink cartridges and half a pack of photo paper cards I am getting tired of testing. At least Gimp and Picasa looked promising but both don't keep their promise when it comes to printing. I'd already be happy to quickly print a few photos with EOG if bug #80220 was fixed - but it's still on "wishlist".
