Square Bullet in XSL-FO

I am attempting to create a list in XSL-FO using a square bracket. I have been able to get it working using the standard unicode bullet character (•) but I just can't seem to get it working for square brackets. I have tried using ■, but that does not seem to work. I had been trying to extract links from a class called "tim_new" . I have been given a solution as well. Both the solution, snippet and necessary information is given here The said XPATH query was "//a[@class='tim_new'], my question is, how did this query differentiate between the first line of the snippet (given in the link above and the second line of the snippet). More specifically, what is the literal translation (in English) of this XPATH query. Furthermore, I want to write a few lines of code to extract the text written against NSE: <div class="FL gL_12 PL10 PT15">BSE: 523395   |   NSE: 3MINDIA   |   ISIN: INE470A01017</div> Would appreciate help in forming the necessary selection query. Hey guys, I'm trying to parse an xml file to return a item with a specific id only, but having trouble making it work. here's what I have in php $xml_str = file_get_contents("test.xml"); $xml = simplexml_load_string($xml_str); $albid = $_GET['id']; $nodes = $xml->xpath('//library/book[@id=1]'); foreach($nodes as $node) { echo $node['title'].'<br/>'; } First, the php is not returning anything from the xml file. What would I need to fix to return the data? Also, how would I enter $albid into the xpath so that the id will be retrieved from the link? Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. How to read XML using XPath in Java

Hi guys, I want to read XML data using XPath in Java, so for the information I have gathered I am not able to parse XML according to my requirement. here is what I want to do: Get XML file from online via its URL, then use XPath to parse it, I want to create two methods in it. xPath Groupings how?

OK So, I'm learning/using xpath for a basic application thats effectively ripping data off another website. I need to gain the knowledge of each persons Countryy/Suburb/area. In some instances you can get Australia/Victoria/melborne for instance. Others may just be Australia/Melbourne. Or even just Melbourne OR just AUSTRALIA. who knows. So I'm current able to view the below code and rip all of the information with the string xpath search:@" //table/tr/td/tabke/tr/td/font/a, this returns every entry, but what I really want is to group each lot separately. I hope someone out there on planet earth knows what I just tried to explain... and can help... I need to loop through the Ancestors nodes in order to get corresponding BrowseNodeId and Name values. How do I do this using XPath? I'm trying something like the the following, but it's not working: //BrowseNode[1]//Ancestors[1]/BrowseNode/BrowseNodeId/text() //BrowseNode[1]//Ancestors[1]/BrowseNode/Name/text() I think the //Ancestors part of the XPath is actually searching the entire XML tree. What I need to do is visit each node to get the needed values. How do I do this? In the example below, I want: Europe - History - Subjects - Books. Is it possible to navigate to the parent node of a matched node during XSLT processing?

I'm working with an OpenXML document, processing the main document part with some XSLT. I've selected a set of nodes via <xsl:template match="w:sdt"> </xsl:template> In most cases, I simply need to replace that matched node with something else, and that works fine. BUT, in some cases, I need to replace not the w:sdt node that matched, but the closest w:p ancestor node (ie the first paragraph node that contains the sdt node). The trick is that the condition used to decide one or the other is based on data derived from the attributes of the sdt node, so I can't use a typical xslt xpath filter. I'm trying to do something like this <xsl:template match="w:sdt"> <xsl:choose> <xsl:when test={first condition}> {apply whatever templating is necessary} </xsl:when> <xsl:when test={exception condition}>  <xsl:apply-templates select="(ancestor::w:p)/.." mode="backout" /> </xsl:when> </xsl:choose> </xsl:template>  <xsl:template match="node()" mode="backout"> {CUSTOM FORMAT the node appropriately} </xsl:template> This whole concept works, BUT no matter what I've tried, It always applies the formatting from the CUSTOM FORMAT template to the w:p node, NOT it's parent node. It's almost as if you can't reference a parent from a matching node. And maybe you can't, but I haven't found any docs that say you can't Any ideas?

XPath: limit scope of result set

Given the XML <a> <c> <b id="1" value="noob"/> </c> <b id="2" value="tube"/> <a> <c> <b id="3" value="foo"/> </c> <b id="4" value="goo"/> <b id="5" value="noob"/> <a> <b id="6" value="near"/> <b id="7" value="bar"/> </a> </a> </a> and the Xpath 1.0 query //b[@id=2]/ancestor::a[1]//b[@value="noob"] is there some way to limit the result set to the <b> elements that are ONLY the children of the immediate <a> element of the start node (//b[@id=2])? For example the Xpath above returns both node ids 1 and 5. The goal is to limit the result to just node id=1 since it is the only @value="noob" element in the same <c> group as our start node (//b[@id=2]). In English, "Starting at a node whose id is equal to 2, find all the elements whose value is "noob" that are descendants of the immediate parent c element without passing through another c element".

I have a list grouped by Region and it currently shows all the items for each city. I want to reduce to only the most recent advisory for each city. I have tried to use an xsl:for-each statement but I am messing up the names/parameters. List is called mlc The list contains the fields: Title City Region Advisory DateCreated TT (calculated number field to find the number of minutes from the DateCreated to end of today which I intended to use the smallest to find the most recent) I have the list grouped by Region and it currently shows all the items for each city. I want to reduce to only the most recent advisory for each city.

Something like that //b[text()="5"]/.. but with check of all children's tags. Please note that number of children tags can be different from node to node. It's possible with only xpath query? thanks

Let's assume all needed teachers and students are well defined. What is the XPath query that returns the teachers' NAMES, that have at least one student that took more than 10 lessons with them? I was looking at many XPath sites/examples. Nothing seemed advanced enough for this kind of question... Thank you

XPath and XML: Multiple namespaces

So I have a document that looks like <a xmlns="uri1" xmlns:pre2="uri2"> <b xmlns:pre3="uri3"> <pre3:c> <stuff></stuff> <goes></goes> <here></here> </pre3:c> <pre3:d xmlns="uri4"> <under></under> <the></the> <tree></tree> </pre3:d> </b> </a> I want an xpath expression that will get me <under>. This has a namespaceURI of uri4. Right now my expression looks like: //ns:a/ns:b/pre3:d/pre4:under I have the namespace manager add 'ns' for the default namespace (uri1 in this case) and I have it defined with pre2, pre3, and pre4 for uri2, uri3, and uri4 respectively. I get the error "Expression must evaluate to a node-set." I know that the node exists. I know that everything up until the pre4:under in my xpath works fine as I use it in the rest of the document with no issues. It's the additional pre4:under that causes the error, and I'm not sure why. Any ideas? Thanks.

Iterate Through JSON Data for Specific Element - Similar to XPath

I am working on an embedded system and my theory of the overall process follows this methodology: 1. Send a command to the back end asking for account information in JSON format. 2. The back end writes a JSON file with all accounts and associated information (there could be 0 to 16 accounts). 3. Here's where I get stuck - use JavaScript (we are using the JQuery library) to iterate through the returned information for a specific element (similar to XPath) and build an array based on the number of elements found to populate a drop-down box to select the account you want to view and then do stuff with the account info. So my code looks like this: loadAccounts = function() { $.getJSON('/info?q=voip.accounts[]', function(result) { var sipAcnts = $("#sipacnts"); $(sipAcnts).empty(); // empty the dropdown (if necessarry) // Get the 'label' element and stick it in an array // build the array and append it to the sipAcnts dropdown // use array index to ref the accounts info and do stuff with it } So what I need is the JSON version of XPath to build the array of voip.accounts.label. The first account info looks something like this: { "result_set": { "voip.accounts[0]": { "label": "Dispatch1", "enabled": true, "user": "1234", "name": "Jane Doe", "type": "sip", "sip": { "lots and lots of stuff": }, } } } Am I over complicating the issue? Any wisdom anyone could thrown down would be greatly appreciated.

Combine XML elements with xsl

I have the following xml: <RowSet> <Row> <Number>12345</Number> <Quantity>42</Quantity> </Row> <Row> <Number>12345</Number> <Quantity>12</Quantity> </Row> <Row> <Number>54321</Number> <Quantity>37</Quantity> </Row> </RowSet> I want to use an xsl to combine the elements with the same Number and the resulting should sum the Quantity elements. So the output should look like this: <RowSet> <Row> <Number>12345</Number> <Quantity>64</Quantity> </Row> <Row> <Number>54321</Number> <Quantity>37</Quantity> </Row> </RowSet>
