• Master Typing Productivity when Programming/SysAdmin [closed]

  I try to learn how to type fast and have managed to learn a lot. I am quite good at typing english text now. I do a lot of programmation though and if QWERTY seems fitted for english text, it doesn't seem fitted to type Ruby, Python, Javascript, Command Line or C++... I have read plenty of articles and if I respect their guidelines/tips, I am using a lot my right pinky specially to type []{}|\;:'"/?=+ enter delete. As you can see this symbols are the ones which are the most used when you are programming and we are using only one weak finger to reach them. Am I learning wrong? Is there is a way to be more productive? (I don't really want to switch to DVORAK) Have you some experiences/tips to share regarding this issue? • Manage own framework

  I have developed my own little framework for webpages. And for different websites I had to change some parts of the framework respectively developed new features / improvements. But in some cases I missed to copy the changes in the original framework code. How do you manage your frameworks? I copy the complete framework to a library folder in my projects folder structure. So I have a copy of the framework in every project. I would like to have it on one place in order to modify / improve / bugfix it once and then distribute it on the projects.

Our articles write by high level processionals in the field that they write about - we also pay them high salary. In recent google algorithm change my main site rating down very seriously. What should we do to restore company main site google rating? our solution and ideas that not working well: rel="canonical" to source website (we already have it before google change without results) meta "original-source" but not have rating influence (we already have it before google change without results) Edit:: maybe we should delete rel="canonical" from main website articles that refer to our other small websites (because this articles in main website not indexed in google)? • How to redirect keeping the referral without server-side redirects?

  I have an HTML page hosted in Dropbox that some external websites link to. I want to redirect to a different page using only HTML or Javascript, since I can't use any server-side redirects. My goal is to be able to keep the original referral information for analytics. I've tried different ways but they all end up showing up with no referral. So if a blog that I have no control over (B) links to my public static page on Dropbox (D), and I want a redirect to the new page hosted elsewhere (N), I would like for the analytics for N to be shown as B, not D. Is that even possible?

  So I was searching for different ways that could suit me in programming and came across LibGDX. Naturally I looked at the tutorial. As I was doing it, I was following the steps word for word, except naming the classes. In the end, I was able to create the desktop launcher for the game but not the android launcher. The following error is my error: Cannot instantiate the type Game (Game is the name of the class) I got the tutorial from http://steigert.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/1-libgdx-tutorial-introduction.html The link in the tutorial is the original but it uses jogl instead of lwjgl.

• Is there other ways to do insert/update/delete on a remote oracle database?

  I asked a question recently concerning the speed of execution of insert/update/delete using JDBC driver in a remote machine, but the problem cannot be solved easily. I would like to ask, is there any other way to execute the insert/update/delete to the oracle? The current situation is this: the DB is on a seperate machine than the java program used to update the DB. I looked up the internet and found people suggesting using pure sql or pl/sql to do the update, is that possible? And do we need to operate the sql or pl/sql in a local machine? Because I have no knowledge about pl/sql, so I am not sure if we can create some kind of script and call it on a remote machine. Let say the situation is like this: the input data is on machine A, and the original java program are also on machine A, but the oracle is on machine B. is there any other approach other than JDBC?

  Having read many books, there is a basic contradiction: Some say, "the goal of testing is to find bugs" while other say "the goal of the testing is to equalize the quality of the product", meaning that bugs are its by-products. I would also agree that if testing would be aimed primarily on a bug hunt, who would do the actual verification and actually provided the information, that the software is ready? Even e.g. Kaner changed his original definiton of testing goal from bug hunting to quality assesement provision but I still cannot see the clear difference. I percieve both as equally important. I can verify software by its specification to make sure it works and in that case, bugs found are just by products. But also I perform tests just to brake things. Also what definition is more accurate?

It worked fine under 11.10 and did so for two weeks on 12.04. But since yesterday, I am unable to connect to my wireless network at home. First I have to connect via Cisco VPN using my university account. This is quite annoying and I'm unable to download apps via the software center when using the Cisco VPN client. I really don't know what happened, because it worked fine for two weeks and I did not change a thing.

• How do I get the Java plugin in Firefox 3.6 working?

  I have Ubuntu 10.10. I needed the Sun Java so I added Sun Oracle as supplier of packages and installed java-6. However, I haven't been able to persuade Firefox to use this Java for the browser. In fact I managed to turn off the original Java plugin (I can't remember exactly how) and I can't see any way to re-enable it. Ie. it doesn't appear in the "plugins" page of the Add-ons option. (I'm in Firefox 3.6.13) Any suggestions for how to re-enable Java in FF 3.6, and make sure it's using the Sun version? thanks phil

  We're moving a UBB forum from one host to another. (This is temporary; we're going to replace the forum eventually, but moving hosts has a higher priority.) We don't have a lot of experience with UBB, so we're feeling our way along in the dark. We got the UBB code installed on the new host, and we've done a dry-run database export from the original site to the new site. However, almost everything set in UBB's Control Panel section didn't come with the database export. If UBB doesn't store this data in the database, where is it stored? And if it is in the database, why would it not show up in a new forum when the database is imported? Did we somehow miss a table?

  This happened at least once to me. I'm working on some part of the code base and find a small bug in a different part, and the bug stops me from completing what I'm currently trying to do. Fixing the bug could be as simple as changing a single statement. What do you do in that situation? Fix the bug and commit it together with your current work Save your current work elsewhere, fix the bug in a separate commit, then continue your work [1] Continue what you're supposed to do, commit the code (even if it breaks the build fails some tests), then fix the bug (and the build make tests pass) in a separate commit [1] In practice, this would mean: clone the original repository elsewhere, fix the bug, commit/push the changes, pull the commit to the repository you're working on, merge the changes, and continue your work.   I am animating a sprite. The sprite has 7 different frames, but the animation is 10 frames long. This is because 3 of the original frames appear twice in the animation: 3 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6 -> 4 -> 3 -> 2 -> 1 -> 0 -> 2 Frames 2, 3 and 4 appear twice. This avoids having to store duplicate frames in the spritesheet. How can I render the animation in this sequence with repeated frames?

• Trouble with Libreoffice 4.0.* in Ubuntu 12.04

  I have used Libreoffice Impress to give presentations at meetings for some time now. The current version of Libreoffice in Ubuntu 12.04 is 3.5.7.2 and this works fine for me. Recently, following a recommendation from a colleague, I installed Libreoffice 4.0.something using the Libreoffice PPA. This worked, but I discovered when going into slide show mode most of the graphics (line graphs) disappeared, even though they were perfectly visible in the original. Lettering, drawings, and pictures came over, but not the line graphs (which were originally inserted in .eps format most likely). With some effort I managed to uninstall the more recent version of Libreoffice, and reinstall the version in the Ubuntu repositories (3.5.7.2) and the graphs now appear as expected in the slide show mode. Is there any explanation for this behaviour?
