• Network Logon Issues with Group Policy and Network

  I am gravely in need of your help and assistance. We have a problem with our logon and startup to our Windows 7 Enterprise system. We have more than 3000 Windows Desktops situated in roughly 20+ buildings around campus. Almost every computer on campus has the problem that I will be describing. I have spent over one month peering over etl files from Windows Performance Analyzer (A great product) and hundreds of thousands of event logs. I come to you today humbled that I could not figure this out. The problem as simply put our logon times are extremely long. An average first time logon is roughly 2-10 minutes depending on the software installed. All computers are Windows 7, the oldest computers being 5 years old. Startup times on various computers range from good (1-2 minutes) to very bad (5-60). Our second time logons range from 30 seconds to 4 minutes. We have a gigabit connection between each computer on the network. We have 5 domain controllers which also double as our DNS servers. Initial testing led us to believe that this was a software problem. So I spent a few days testing machines only to find inconsistent results from the etl files from xperfview. Each subset of computers on campus had a different subset of software issues, none seeming to interfere with logon just startup. So I started looking at our group policy and located some very interesting event ID’s. Group Policy 1129: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. Group Policy 1055: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). NETLOGON 5719 : This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain OURDOMAIN due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. E1kexpress 27: Intel®82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection – Network link is disconnected. NetBT 4300 – The driver could not be created. WMI 10 - Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. More or less with timestamps it becomes apparent that the network maybe the issue. 1:25:57 - Group Policy is trying to discover the domain controller information 1:25:57 - The network link has been disconnected 1:25:58 - The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has successfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator. 1:25:58 - Making LDAP calls to connect and bind to active directory. DC1.ourdomain.edu 1:25:58 - Call failed after 0 milliseconds. 1:25:58 - Forcing rediscovery of domain controller details. 1:25:58 - Group policy failed to discover the domain controller in 1030 milliseconds 1:25:58 - Periodic policy processing failed for computer OURDOMAIN\%name%$ in 1 seconds. 1:25:59 - A network link has been established at 1Gbps at full duplex 1:26:00 - The network link has been disconnected 1:26:02 - NtpClient was unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of discovery error.   Hi, I would like to run apache as a limited user on Windows 2008 R2 for security reasons. I've created a user in the user group (let's call it apache), and set the user to run as in the services pane, but then I am unable to start the service (probably not enough permission to bind to port 80). What is the minimum privileges needed to run apache on windows 2008, or what should I do to allow the user apache to bind apache 2.2 to port 80? Thanks!

• Slow tab completion for paths in`make' arguments

  When I'm specifying an argument for make like PREFIX_PATH=/some/path/to/prefix/ I sometimes experience very slow completion for my directories (a few seconds). It's annoying when I've got several variables to specify. To get around the problem I've been typing out the variables first to get regular completion speed, then hitting home' to insertmake` that the start of my command line. What is happening and how can I fix it?

  I've got a TreeView to which I associate a ContextMenu. That contextmenu has an item whose IsChecked property I want to bind to my ViewModel. Since I am using a tree each treeitem is bound to a subproperty of my ViewModel. In the VS2010 output window I am seeing this databinding error: BindingExpression path error: 'IsAutoStart' property not found on 'object' ''HostMgmtViewModel' (HashCode=12565727)'. BindingExpression:Path=IsAutoStart; DataItem='HostMgmtViewModel' This clearly shows it is trying to bind to my ViewModel and not to the treeitem's associated data. How do I bind to the correct object? Remember my contextmenu is associated with the whole TreeView not to the specific treeitem.

  Hi. We have dynamically created (i.e. during runtime, via code-behind) UserControls inside a Canvas. We want to bind the position (Canvas.Left and Canvas.Top) and width of those sizable and draggable UserControls to a ObservableCollection<. How would we achieve this if the Usercontrol is contained in a DataTemplate which in turn is used by a ListBox whose DataContext is set to the collection we want to bind to? In other words, how do we bind a control's position and size that doesn't exist in XAML, but in code only (because it's created by clicking and dragging the mouse)? Notice that the collection can be empty or not empty, meaning that the size and position stores in a collection item must be correctly bound to so that the UserControl can be sized and positioned correctly in the Canvas - via DataBinding. Is this possible?

  I found a neat SVG parser at http://bkp.ee/atirip/ which parses an SVG file and outputs it into javascript that uses the Raphael JS library (raphaeljs.com).   I am trying to bind a dictionary as a DataSource to a ListBox. The solution in How to bind a dicationary to a ListBox in winforms will not work for me because my dictionary is a class-level variable and not a method-level variable, so I can not use var. When you put a class-level variable into new BindingSource(...) with null as the second argument I get an ArgumentNull exception. How do I bind a class-level dictionary as a data source for a list box? I don't like the List< KeyValuePair< string, string work-around becuase Where(...) and First(...) are ugly, complicated, and confusing compared to TryGetValue(...) and other Dictionary functionality.

• Double interpolation of regular expressions in Perl

  I have a Perl program that stores regular expressions in configuration files. They are in the form: regex = ^/d+$ Elsewhere, the regex gets parsed from the file and stored in a variable - $regex. I then use the variable when checking the regex, e.g. $lValid = ($valuetocheck =~ /$regex/); I want to be able to include perl variables in the config file, e.g. regex = ^\d+$stored_regex$ But I can't work out how to do it. When regular expressions are parsed by Perl they get interpreted twice. First the variables are expanded, and then the the regular expression itself is parsed. What I need is a three stage process: First interpolate $regex, then interpolate the variables it contains and then parse the resulting regular expression. Both the first two interpolations need to be "regular expression aware". e.g. they should know that the string contain $ as an anchor etc... Any ideas?

• Why Does .Hide()ing and .Show()ing Panels in wxPython Result in the Sizer Changing the Layout?

  As referenced in my previous question, I am trying to make something slightly wizard-like in function. I have settled on a single frame with a sizer added to it. I build panels for each of the screens I would like users to see, add them to the frame's sizer, then switch between panels by .Hide()ing one panel, then calling a custom .ShowYourself() on the next panel. Obviously, I would like the buttons to remain in the same place as the user progresses through the process. I have linked together two panels in an infinite loop by their "Back" and "Next" buttons so you can see what is going on. The first panel looks great; tom10's code worked on that level, as it eschewed my initial, over-fancy attempt with borders flying every which way. And then the second panel seems to have shrunk down to the bare minimum. As we return to the first panel, the shrinkage has occurred here as well. Why does it look fine on the first panel, but not after I return there? Why is calling .Fit() necessary if I do not want a 10 pixel by 10 pixel wad of grey? And if it is necessary, why does .Fit() give inconsistent results? This infinite loop seems to characterize my experience with this: I fix the layout on a panel, only to find that switching ruins the layout for other panels. I fix that problem, by using sizer_h.Add(self.panel1, 0) instead of sizer_h.Add(self.panel1, 1, wx.EXPAND), and now my layouts are off again. So far, my "solution" is to add a mastersizer.SetMinSize((475, 592)) to each panel's master sizer (commented out in the code below). This is a cruddy solution because 1) I have had to find the numbers that work by trial and error (-5 pixels for the width, -28 pixels for the height). 2) I don't understand why the underlying issue still happens. What's the correct, non-ugly solution? Instead of adding all of the panels to the frame's sizer at once, should switching panels involve .Detach()ing that panel from the frame's sizer and then .Add()ing the next panel to the frame's sizer? Is there a .JustMakeThisFillThePanel() method hiding somewhere I have missed in both the wxWidgets and the wxPython documents online? I'm obviously missing something in my mental model of layout. • Binding a nullable int to an asp:TextBox

  I have a property int? MyProperty as a member in my datasource (ObjectDataSource). Can I bind this to a TextBox, like <asp:TextBox ID="MyTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("MyProperty") %>' /> Basically I want to get a null value displayed as blank "" in the TextBox, and a number as a number. If the TextBox is blank MyProperty shall be set to null. If the TextBox has a number in it, MyProperty should be set to this number. If I try it I get an exception: "Blank is not a valid Int32". But how can I do that? How to work with nullable properties and Bind? Thanks in advance!

• jQuery event handlers always execute in order they were bound - any way around this?

  It can be anoying that jQuery event handlers always execute in the order they were bound. For example: $('span').click(doStuff1()); $('span').click(doStuff2()); clicking on the span will cause doStuff1() to fire, followed by doStuff2(). At the time I bind doStuff2(), I would like the option to bind it before doStuff1(), but there doesn't appear to be any easy way to do this. I suppose most people would say, just write the code like this: $('span').click(function (){ doStuff2(); doStuff1(); }); But this is just a simple example - in practise it is not always convienient to do that. There are situations when you want to bind an event, and the object you are binding to already has events. And in this case you may simply want the new event to fire before any other existing events. So what is the best way to achieve this in jQuery?

• CLR debugger and 'var'

  I'm using the CLR debugger (version 8, from "Visual Studio 2005") to debug some C# code. I can step through my code, but for many variables, the debugger won't show me its value. That is, if I type it in the "Immediate" frame or add it to the "Watch" frame, it says "Unable to evaluate the expression.". It seems to do this a lot for var variables, but I'm also seeing it for parameters and properties, too. I have not been able to figure out what the pattern is. Is there a rule for when it can display the value of a variable? Is there something I need to do to my code, or in my build script, to make the debugger able to view variables? Or is there a hidden debugger setting?

• Collection View Item binding issue

  I have two entities in a Data Model, ENTITY_A, and ENTITY_B, that are related (ENTITY_A with a one-to-many relationship to ENTITY_B named DetailItems). I have set up a NSCollectionView with its appropriate bindings to ENTITY_A, and have placed on a Collection View Item a label. If I bind the label to [Collection View Item] and with a Model Key Path of [representedObject.FIELD_NAME], it works great. If I bind it to a Model Key Path [representedObject.DetailItems.@count], again it works great. If I bind it to a Model Key Path [[email protected]_NAME], I get the following error on the console: addObserver:forKeyPath:options:context:] is not supported. Key path: @sum.FIELD_NAME.   I have 2 comboBoxes in my View of Griffon App (or groovy swingBuilder) country = comboBox(items:country(), selectedItem: bind(target:model, 'country', value:model.country), actionPerformed: controller.getStates) state = comboBox(items:bind(source:model, sourceProperty:'states'), selectedItem: bind(target:model, 'state', value:model.state)) The getStates() in the controller, populates @Bindable List states = [] in the model based on the country selected. The above code doesn't give any errors, but the states are never populated. I changed the states from being List to a range object(dummy), it gives me an error MissingPropertyException No such property items for class java.swing.JComboBox. Am I missing something here? There are a couple of entries related to this on Nabble but nothing is clear. The above code works if I had a label instead of a second comboBox.

  hi, i am having this hard time figuring what is needed to do, i am using URLVariables to send/recieve values between flash and PHP the problem is, i am unable to access nested arrays ( array inside an array ) with flash heres an example: $dgresult = array("total" = $results); echo http_build_query($dgresult,"flf_"); in flash, all i need to do is to use: var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables(e.target.data); then i can access it with : variables.total the problem now is when i have nested arrays: $dgresult = array("total" = $results); array_push($dgresult,$another_array); http_build_query($dgresult,"flf_"); i can still access variables.total but what about anything that has flf_ ? how is that possible?

  Hi, I'm using MVP in WPF and I came across a design doubt and I would to get your opinion on this: At some point I need to refresh my view and perform the same initial queries, like when the view was loading. The view's DataContext is my presenter and I have a couple of collections and other variables that are bound to the view. When I need to refresh the view, I'm clearing the collections and the variables and setting the DataContext to null. After that I fetch new data, populate the collections and set the DataContext. Is this the best way to achieve this? The issue with this, is that i'm affraid that when my app grows bigger I forget to reset some variable...the ideal would be to reload the view again in some way without having to worry with the variables I have. • Modern way to handle and validate POST-data in MVC 2

  There are a lot of articles devoted to working with data in MVC, and nothing about MVC 2. So my question is: what is the proper way to handle POST-query and validate it. Assume we have 2 actions. Both of them operates over the same entity, but each action has its own separated set of object properties that should be bound in automatic manner. For example: Action "A" should bind only "Name" property of object, taken from POST-request Action "B" should bind only "Date" property of object, taken from POST-request As far as I understand - we cannot use Bind attribute in this case. So - what are the best practices in MVC2 to handle POST-data and probably validate it. UPD: After Actions performed - additional logic will be applied to the objects so they become valid and ready to store in persistent layer. For action "A" - it will be setting up Date to current date.
