  • Looking for an application that scrolls or pans netbook screens running Windows

    - by therobyouknow
I'm looking for a Windows 7 and XP compatible Windows desktop panning/scrolling tool. This is to solve a problem where some applications for example MSN have settings/preference Windows that are not resizeable. I have a Netbook with a small maximum screen resolution e.g. 1024x600. The fixed non-resizeable windows are too large for this display screen size so I cannot see all of the items on these windows, particularly the OK button to save settings. What I would like is a desktop scrolling/panning tool where if I move my mouse pointer to any edge of the display, it pans to show the region of the too-large-fixed window that I could not see. I use a Samsung N110 and Toshiba NB100 netbooks. I'm looking for: A general program that provides desktop panning/scrolling/expanded resolution to allow all regions of a non-resizeable fixed window Preferably a non-graphics hardware specific program but will accept a solution that works with both the above machines I'm NOT looking for (i.e. unsatisfactory answers others have asked that I've already searched and found): Advice on what programs to use that DON'T have the problem of fixed windows Alternative operating system solutions Plugging in an external monitor with larger resolution - I use this option but I need a solution when one is not available, e.g. while travelling etc Advice about not using small screen netbooks - I enjoy the compact convenience of them Advice about change the dpi settings in the Control Panel Display settings Advice about guesswork with the tab key to move the focus the off-screen item I cannot see Thank you in advance.

  • Why is my global security group being filtered out of my logon token?

    - by Jay Michaud
While investigating the effects of filtered tokens on my file permissions, I noticed that one of my global security groups is being filtered in addition to the regular system-defined filtered groups. My Active Directory environment is a single-domain forest on the Windows Server 2003 functional level. I'll call the domain "mydomain.example.com". I am logged onto a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition machine (not a domain controller) as a member of the "MYDOMAIN\Domain Admins" group and the "MYDOMAIN\MySecurityGroup" global security group (among others). When I run "whoami /groups" from an elevated command prompt, I see the full list of groups to which my account belongs as expected. When I run "whoami /groups" from a regular, non-elevated command prompt, I see the same list of groups, but the following groups are described as "Group used for deny only". BUILTIN\Administrators MYDOMAIN\Schema Admins MYDOMAIN\Offer Remote Assistance Helpers MYDOMAIN\MySecurityGroup Numbers 1 through 3 above are expected based on Microsoft documentation; number 4 is not. The "MYDOMAIN\MySecurityGroup" global security group is a group that I created. It contains three non-built-in global security groups, and these security groups contain only non-built-in user accounts. (That is, I created all of the accounts and groups that are members of the "MYDOMAIN\MySecurityGroup" global security group.) There are other, similar groups of which my account is a member that are not being filtered out of my logon token, and this group is not granted any specific user rights in the security settings of this computer or in Group Policy. What would cause this one group to be filtered out of my logon token?

  • ASP.NET AJAX Problem

    - by Rich Andrews
I've updated some code to use the Ajax Control toolkit 0911 beta and for some reason code that dynamically added collapsable panel extenders in the code behind now causes the following error in the client side jscript... Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.ArgumentException: Value must not be null for Controls and Behaviors. • Need help redirecting http://website.com/ to http://www.website.com/

    - by Matt
What I'm trying to do is to redirect my website visitors who enter "website.com" to "www.website.com". I would do this with a standard redirect, but I don't know how to make a site specific to WWW or non-WWW addresses. I see that Firefox thinks my site is clearly different at the WWW version, because it reloads it without using the cache. How can I make a non-WWW specific index.html page to redirect them to www.website.com?

  • c# - can you make a "weak" assembly reference to a strong named assembly

    - by Tim
hi, for various reasons i would rather not use strong named (signed) assemblies in my project. however, one of the projects is referenced by a sharepoint web part which means it must be signed. is it possible to have this assembly signed but when I reference it from other projects, to do so using a non-strong reference. this would give me the advantages of having a non-signed assembly for the rest of my code but still allow it to be loaded by sharepoint Tim

  • Optional parameters with PHP SoapClient class on wsdl mode

    - by Maraino
With the SoapClient class on PHP5.x and working against a SOAP web service that has optional parameters in its methods, you won't have any problem if you use the non-wsdl mode. But, at least by default, with the wsdl mode, if you don't fill all the parameters you will get an error like: SOAP-ERROR: Encoding: object hasn't 'xxx' property Is there any way to avoid that error without working with the non-wsdl mode and without filling all the parameters?

  • SOAP client generator for ruby/ruby on rails

    - by Sohan
I have been looking for a fully functional WSDL client generator for ruby. I tried the one called wsdl2ruby and it didn't work. I think it has problems with detecting complex types correctly. Can someone point me to the right library if there is one? I am specifically looking to generate a full functional client for SOAP API provided by jira. I looked into jira4r but it seems to be dead now and not up to date. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Why does filter: blur(0) still cause text to blur under Webkit?

    - by johnkavanagh
I've come across a bug today that's taken far longer than I would like to admit to identify. Essentially: setting a filter: blur(0) (or the vendor-specific -webkit-filter) on an element should - I believe - mean that no form of blur is applied. However, having tested this today, it would appear that Webkit based browsers still blur the text within any element with either blur(0) or blur(0px) assigned to it. I've knocked together a quick Fiddle here: http://jsfiddle.net/f9rBE/ These are three identical dixs containing text (no custom fonts): This has absolutely nothing assigned Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Aliquam facilisis orci in quam venenatis, in tempus ipsum sagittis. Suspendisse potenti. One has no styles at all assigned, the other two have blur(0) and blur(0px): .no-blur{} .zero-px-blur{ -webkit-filter: blur(0px); -moz-filter: blur(0px); -o-filter: blur(0px); -ms-filter: blur(0px); filter: blur(0px); } .zero-blur{ -webkit-filter: blur(0); -moz-filter: blur(0); -o-filter: blur(0); -ms-filter: blur(0); filter: blur(0); } If you preview this under Chrome/Safari you'll see that the text in the second two are still blurred: A few things worth noting: This unintentional blurring occurs in Safari on iOS7 devices (both iPhones and iPads); It also occurs on Chrome and Safari under OSX; It doesn't happen under FireFox in OSX. Of course, this isn't supported at all in Firefox just yet so it's hard to tell whether the behaviour I'm seeing is intentional/expected behaviour, or whether this is a bug in Webkit? Is it possible that this is only prevalent in higher-density resolution devices (ie: retina MacBook/iPhone/iPad)? With this in mind, how do you actually overwrite an item that has blur applied to it to set it back to non-blurred?

  • Compile error with acml.h

    - by Aslan986
I'm having some problem compiling a Visual Studio 2008 project in which I use acml.h. I correctly installed amcl package on my computer, version 5.1.0-ifort64. I added the reference to the acml.h directory in Visual Studio Compiler Properties, but when i try to compile i get these errors: 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' I apologize for italian language; however they are all sintax errors. • Model Based Testing Strategies

    - by Doubt
What strategies have you used with Model Based Testing? Do you use it exclusively for integration testing, or branch it out to other areas (unit/functional/system/spec verification)? Do you build focused "sealed" models or do you evolve complex onibus models over time? When in the product cycle do you invest in creating MBTs? What sort of base test libraries do you exclusively create for MBTs? What difference do you make in your functional base test libraries to better support MBTs?

  • Opt-out of copy constructor

    - by sheepsimulator
This might be a silly question, but... I've been writing a number of classes that utilize non-copyable members. These classes are never initialized via the copy constructor in my source. When I try to compile without supplying my own copy-constructor, g++ throws out many errors about how it can't build a default copy constructor, due to the non-copyable member objects. Is there a way to tell the compiler to just not give me a copy constructor?

  • Why does one loop take longer to detect a shared memory update than another loop?

    - by Joseph Garvin
I've written a 'server' program that writes to shared memory, and a client program that reads from the memory. The server has different 'channels' that it can be writing to, which are just different linked lists that it's appending items too. The client is interested in some of the linked lists, and wants to read every node that's added to those lists as it comes in, with the minimum latency possible. I have 2 approaches for the client: For each linked list, the client keeps a 'bookmark' pointer to keep its place within the linked list. It round robins the linked lists, iterating through all of them over and over (it loops forever), moving each bookmark one node forward each time if it can. Whether it can is determined by the value of a 'next' member of the node. If it's non-null, then jumping to the next node is safe (the server switches it from null to non-null atomically). This approach works OK, but if there are a lot of lists to iterate over, and only a few of them are receiving updates, the latency gets bad. The server gives each list a unique ID. Each time the server appends an item to a list, it also appends the ID number of the list to a master 'update list'. The client only keeps one bookmark, a bookmark into the update list. It endlessly checks if the bookmark's next pointer is non-null ( while(node->next_ == NULL) {} ), if so moves ahead, reads the ID given, and then processes the new node on the linked list that has that ID. This, in theory, should handle large numbers of lists much better, because the client doesn't have to iterate over all of them each time. When I benchmarked the latency of both approaches (using gettimeofday), to my surprise #2 was terrible. The first approach, for a small number of linked lists, would often be under 20us of latency. The second approach would have small spats of low latencies but often be between 4,000-7,000us! Through inserting gettimeofday's here and there, I've determined that all of the added latency in approach #2 is spent in the loop repeatedly checking if the next pointer is non-null. This is puzzling to me; it's as if the change in one process is taking longer to 'publish' to the second process with the second approach. I assume there's some sort of cache interaction going on I don't understand. What's going on?

  • What's a regular language?

    - by Javier Badia
I've read that you can't parse HTML with regular expressions because HTML is not a regular language. I tried searching Wikipedia, but I didn't understand a word of what the various related articles said. Can someone explain, in simpler terms, what's a regular (or non-regular) language, and why non-regular languages can't be parsed with regexes?

  • Is O_NONBLOCK being set a property of the file descriptor or underlying file?

    - by Daniel Trebbien
From what I have been reading on The Open Group website on fcntl, open, read, and write, I get the impression that whether O_NONBLOCK is set on a file descriptor, and hence whether non-blocking I/O is used with the descriptor, should be a property of that file descriptor rather than the underlying file. Being a property of the file descriptor means, for example, that if I duplicate a file descriptor or open another descriptor to the same file, then I can use blocking I/O with one and non-blocking I/O with the other. Experimenting with a FIFO, however, it appears that it is not possible to have a blocking I/O descriptor and non-blocking I/O descriptor to the FIFO simultaneously (so whether O_NONBLOCK is set is a property of the underlying file [the FIFO]): #include <errno.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <unistd.h> int main(int argc, char **argv) { int fds[2]; if (pipe(fds) == -1) { fprintf(stderr, "`pipe` failed.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } int fd0_dup = dup(fds[0]); if (fd0_dup <= STDERR_FILENO) { fprintf(stderr, "Failed to duplicate the read end\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if (fds[0] == fd0_dup) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should not equal `fd0_dup`.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if ((fcntl(fds[0], F_GETFL) & O_NONBLOCK)) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should not have `O_NONBLOCK` set.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if (fcntl(fd0_dup, F_SETFL, fcntl(fd0_dup, F_GETFL) | O_NONBLOCK) == -1) { fprintf(stderr, "Failed to set `O_NONBLOCK` on `fd0_dup`\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if ((fcntl(fds[0], F_GETFL) & O_NONBLOCK)) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should still have `O_NONBLOCK` unset.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; // RETURNS HERE } char buf[1]; if (read(fd0_dup, buf, 1) != -1) { fprintf(stderr, "Expected `read` on `fd0_dup` to fail immediately\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } else if (errno != EAGAIN) { fprintf(stderr, "Expected `errno` to be `EAGAIN`\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } return EXIT_SUCCESS; } This leaves me thinking: is it ever possible to have a non-blocking I/O descriptor and blocking I/O descriptor to the same file and if so, does it depend on the type of file (regular file, FIFO, block special file, character special file, socket, etc.)?

  • Which Programming Language Should I Learn?

    - by Esteban Araya
I've decided, for educational purposes, I want to learn a new language every 2 years or so. Which language should I learn first? Why? I'm proficient with C, C# and Java. Other than that, I really haven't done much with any other languages. Thanks! Edit: Thanks to all of those that recommended functional languages. Making the mental switch to a functional language seems hard. How did you overcome your instinct to keep doing things in a procedural manner?

  • Traceability with XSD

    - by blastthisinferno
    I am trying to let my XML schema handle a little traceability functionality as I'm gathering requirements while I read through some functional specifications. (Not ideal for requirement management, but at least its a start.) What I'm doing is creating a <functionalSpec tag for each functional specification I am currently reading through. I create a <requirement tag for each requirement I find. Since I want to be able to trace where the requirement came from, I create a <trace element with the id of the <functionalSpec element. Instead of allowing myself to enter any plain-old-text in the <functionalSpecId tag, I want the XSD to validate and make sure that I only enter in an id that exists for an existing functional spec. My problem is coming in where it seems the XML Schema W3C Recommendations documentation says that what I want to do is not possible. (about 1/2 way down) {selector} specifies a restricted XPath ([XPath]) expression relative to instances of the element being declared. This must identify a node set of subordinate elements (i.e. contained within the declared element) to which the constraint applies. I'm using Oxygen to create this since I'm fairly new to XSD files, and it gives me the following error: E [Xerces] Identity Constraint error: identity constraint "KeyRef@1045a2" has a keyref which refers to a key or unique that is out of scope. So my question is does anyone know of a way that will allow me to use the same XML structure that I have below through using XSD? Below is the XML file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <srs xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="srs req2.xsd" xmlns="srs"> <requirements> <requirement DateCreated="2010-06-11" id="1"> <Text>The system shall...</Text> <trace> <functionalSpecId>B010134</functionalSpecId> </trace> <revisions> <revision date="2010-06-11" num="0"> <description>Initial creation.</description> </revision> </revisions> </requirement> </requirements> <functionalSpecs> <functionalSpec id="B010134" model="Model-T"> <trace> <meeting></meeting> </trace> <revisions> <revision date="2009-07-08" num="0"> <description>Initial creation.</description> </revision> <detailer>Me</detailer> <engineer>Me</engineer> </revisions> </functionalSpec> </functionalSpecs> </srs> Below is the XSD file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <xs:schema xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="srs" xmlns="srs" xmlns:srs="srs" elementFormDefault="qualified"> <!-- SRS --> <xs:element name="srs" type="SRSType"> </xs:element> <xs:complexType name="SRSType"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element ref="requirements" /> <xs:element ref="functionalSpecs" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <!-- Requirements --> <xs:element name="requirements" type="RequirementsType"> <xs:unique name="requirementId"> <xs:selector xpath="srs/requirements/requirement" /> <xs:field xpath="@id" /> </xs:unique> </xs:element> <xs:complexType name="RequirementsType"> <xs:choice maxOccurs="unbounded"> <xs:element name="requirement" type="RequirementType" /> </xs:choice> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="RequirementType"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:extension base="RequirementInfo"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="trace" type="TraceType" maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="1" /> <xs:element name="revisions" type="RequirementRevisions" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:extension> </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="RequirementRevisions"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="revision" type="RevisionInfo" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="RequirementInfo"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="Text" type="Description" /> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="DateCreated" type="xs:date" use="required" /> <xs:attribute name="id" type="xs:integer" use="required" /> </xs:complexType> <!-- Functional Specs --> <xs:element name="functionalSpecs" type="FunctionalSpecsType"> <xs:unique name="functionalSpecId"> <xs:selector xpath="srs/functionalSpecs/functionalSpec" /> <xs:field xpath="@id" /> </xs:unique> </xs:element> <xs:complexType name="FunctionalSpecsType"> <xs:choice maxOccurs="unbounded"> <xs:element name="functionalSpec" type="FunctionalSpecType" /> </xs:choice> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="FunctionalSpecType"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:extension base="FunctionalSpecInfo"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="trace" type="TraceType" maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="1" /> <xs:element name="revisions" type="FunctionalSpecRevisions" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:extension> </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="FunctionalSpecRevisions"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="revision" type="RevisionInfo" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded" /> <xs:element name="detailer" type="xs:string" /> <xs:element name="engineer" type="xs:string" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="FunctionalSpecInfo"> <xs:attribute name="id" type="xs:string" use="required" /> <xs:attribute name="model" type="xs:string" use="required" /> </xs:complexType> <!-- Requirements, Functional Specs --> <xs:complexType name="TraceType"> <xs:choice> <xs:element name="requirementId"> <xs:keyref refer="requirementId" name="requirementIdRef"> <xs:selector xpath="srs/requirements/requirement" /> <xs:field xpath="@id" /> </xs:keyref> </xs:element> <xs:element name="functionalSpecId"> <xs:keyref refer="functionalSpecId" name="functionalSpecIdRef"> <xs:selector xpath="srs/functionalSpecs/functionalSpec" /> <xs:field xpath="@id" /> </xs:keyref> </xs:element> <xs:element name="meeting" /> </xs:choice> </xs:complexType> <!-- Common --> <xs:complexType name="RevisionInfo"> <xs:choice> <xs:element name="description" type="Description" /> </xs:choice> <xs:attribute name="date" type="xs:date" use="required" /> <xs:attribute name="num" type="xs:integer" use="required" /> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="Description" mixed="true"> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute name="Date" type="xs:date" /> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:schema>

  • How much of Grails GORM to test?

    - by Lloyd Meinholz
Is there a "best practice" or defacto standard with how much of the GORM functionality one should test in the unit/functional tests? My take is that one should probably do most of the domain testing as functional tests so that you get the full grails environment. But what do you test? Inserts, updates, deletes? Do you test constraints even though they were probably more thoroughly tested by the grails release? Or do you just assume that GORM does what it is supposed to do and move to other parts of the application?

  • Is there an Unobtrusive Captcha for web forms?

    - by KP
What is the best unobtrusive CAPTCHA for web forms? One that does not involve a UI, rather a non-UI Turing test. I have seen a simple example of a non UI CAPTCHA like the Nobot control from Microsoft. I am looking for a CAPTCHA that does not ask the user any question in any form. No riddles, no what's in this image.

  • What are logical and path queries

    - by NomeN
I'm reading a paper which mentions that a language for refactoring has three specific requirements. functional features (like ML) logical queries (like Datalog) path queries (like Datalog) I know what they mean by functional features, but I'm not totally clear on the latter two and can't find a clear explanation either. Although I have a good idea after what I could find on the subjects, I need to be sure so here goes: Could the SO-community please clearly explain to me what logical queries and path queries are? Or at the very least what the people from the paper meant?
