• HTML anchor #bottom, only going half-way down page

I tried to solve this by using a unique id and name for the attributes: <a href="#bottom" id="4656" name="4656"> But this hasn't worked. Suggestions? P.S. Don't use the URL bar, yes that works. Visit the page and click on a link in a post that says "Bottom of the page". This is where it isn't working.

• How online-game clients are able to exchange data through internet so fast?

  Hello, Let's imagine really simple game... We have a labirinth and two players trying to find out exit in real time through internet. On every move game client should send player's coordinates to server and accept current coordinates of another client. How is it possible to make this exchange so fast (as all modern games do). Ok, we can use memcache or similar technology to reduce data mining operations on server side. We can also use fastest webserver etc., but we still will have problems with timings. So, the questions are... What protocol game clients are usually using for exchanging information with server? What server technologies are coming to solve this problem? What algorithms are applied for fighting with delays during game etc. PS: Sorry for my English and I hope that my question is clear. Thank you.

• Shift from Java to c++

  Hello, I have been developing applications based on C# (.net) and Java (J2EE) from the last 3 years. But, now I feel, Java, C# makes you lame (from learning point of view) and you can develop your apps quickly but you fail to understand the basic underlying concepts of programming. So, I am trying to learn C++, but I find it a little "confusing" due to pointer, multiple inheritance, some conventions and other concepts of C++ which don't exist in Java. So, what do you guys suggest? How should I got about it? Thanks PS: I am a student, so have all the time in the world and actually shift.

• java multiple connections between server and one client

  I'm trying to make like a skype-instant messager, my idea for it is to have one server which handles multiple connections for the clients. What I now have is a friend list etc, but now I want to create Threads both for server and client to handle a conversation. The problem is that I need multiple connections between a server and one client for every conversation(I think). but i dont think it's possible. Does someone have another way for doing this or maybe a way to make multiple connections between the server and a client? • how can i query a table that got split to 2 smaller tables? Union? view ?

  hello friends, I have a very big table (nearly 2,000,000 records) that got split to 2 smaller tables. one table contains only records from last week and the other contains all the rest (which is a lot...) now i got some Stored Procedures / Functions that used to query the big table before it got split. i still need them to query the union of both tables, however it seems that creating a View which uses the union statement between the two tables lasts forever... that's my view: CREATE VIEW `united_tables_view` AS select * from table1 union select * from table2; and then i'd like to switch everywhere the Stored procedure select from 'oldBigTable' to select from 'united_tables_view'... i've tried adding indexes to make the time shorter but nothing helps... any Ideas? PS the view and union are my idea but any other creative idea would be perfect! bring it on! thanks!

So functions containing macros have their information printed multiple times (which is of course undesired). Is there anything to detect that a macro is being processed? Or is is possible to turn off instrumenting macros at all? PS Same problems occur with sizeof()

I don't want to take the short path by learning how to apply algorithms "as-is" but would rather like to know the foundation and fundamentals behind them. For that I need Math, at which I'm pretty "basic". I'm considering getting tuition's for that. What I would like is to have a concise syllabus/set of topics/book which I could hand over to my math tutor to get started. HIGHLY DESIRED: one book. the silver bullet. (fingers crossed!) • Why do I have to use the "origin" for the pull to be successfull

  when I do : git pull BranchName it tells me everything is up to date but I know that is not true. When I do: git pull origin BranchName then I get the files I was expecting. Is there an easy way to answer this or do I need to provide more details. PS One thing I did do just to understant themechanics of git is give the branch name in my cloned repo a different name than on the remote repo. I did however put the right name in the config file like so: [branch "myUDPspinoff"] remote = origin merge = refs/heads/UDPspinoff this worked before on another repo but not this one. And when I put everything in the same name thenI did not need to use origin anymore.

PS, I know I can use a for loop to loop though the lines then count up the lines that way, but I was hoping for a simpler solution like wc

• Visual studio 2010 doesn't make the changes when i do a build/compile

  Ok so i change some code, re-build it and then, say for arguments sake i had a print statement outputting 'test2', well if i change it to 'test3' its still re-producing the old code 'test2'. Ive deleted the debug folder and rebuilt but no good. Then randomly about 10 builds later it will catch up. Ive also closed VS2010 and then re-opened the project but that doesnt help. What can i do as i need to see the changes asap? ps it's definitely the correct file

• Using the same cookie in two logins

  Hi everyone, I need your help I've a MVC project that uses Jquery, where I've implemented a mechanism of "Remember Me" using cookies to save, clear and retrieve the login and password. I also have two screens where the user does the login. I want that both logins manipulate the same cookie. I've got to implement it, but I've realized that each one has a different behaviour. I mean, the cookie's value I save in the first login is not the same than the value that retrieves the second login (when I open it). In other words, if I mark "remind me" on the first login, it isn't reflected on the second login and viceversa. What can I do to make that both of them manipulate and read the same values from the same cookie? Is it possible? PS: For this situations I'm using the same web navigator: Firefox or IE.   Hi, I've gotten extremely interested into coding trainers (Program that modifies value of a different process) for video games. I've done the simple 'god-mode' and 'unlimited money' things, but I want to do alot more than that. (Simple editing using WriteProcessMemory) There are memory addresses of functions on the internet of the video game I'm working on, and one of functions is like "CreateCar" and I'm wanting to call that function from an external program. My question: How can I call a function from an external process in C/C++, provided the function address, using a process handle or other method. PS: If anyone could link me to tools (I've got debuggers, no need for more..) that help with this sort of thing, that'd be nice.

• Prototype setStyle not working in IE6.

  Hi, I'm using prototype and setStyle in IE6 is just messing everything up. It's throwing a big error. I've Googled it but cant find a solution. • Did anybody use the constream (constrea.h) lib?

  Two years ago, I used the conio.h (actually conio2.h for Dev-C++) to create a console form interface. Now I want to make the same thing, but C++ std lib does not provide the needed functions and I don't want to use the old C conio lib. I found some websites which highlights the constream lib, but I have no idea to use it on VS! I tried just copying the header file into my project, but VS show several erros.   How to acces each element in macro if the definition is like MACRO(name, seq) and the code is like: MACRO("TheName", (Elem1) (Elem2) (Elem3) ) I want to generate the next code: MACRO("TheName", ELEMMACRO(Elem1) ELEMMACRO(Elem2) ELEMMACRO(Elem3) ) Or something like that. In other words, I want to process every parameter separately (I don't care of definition, even if it will be something like MACRO("TheName", Elem1, Elem2, Elem3 ) There could be more elements, there could be less. I have tried V_ARGS (I need it only for gcc), but I can only copy all the elements by that, not to process them separately. What can I do? P.S. Because of some reasons, I can't use Boost.

• Extending folder (LiveFolder?) class

  So, I noticed that I can organize apps into folders (HTC Incredible). However these folders are fairly limited in their capabilities. I want to implement an activity that extends the "base" folder activity (at the very least I want to add the ability to rearrange items in folders), but I can't figure out the class name... So, what's the name of the class that is used when adding a "New Folder" to the Home screen? PS I did take a look at the Android developer website. But the discussion there revolves mostly around content providers. I assume that's not quite what I need since I'd have to create a separate content provider for each new folder, or am I misunderstanding something?

• When should I define an hash code function for my types?

  Is there any other reason for implementing an hash code function for my types other than allowing for good use of hash tables? Let's say I am designing some types that I intend to use internally. I know that types are "internal" to the system, and I also know I will never use those types in hash tables. In spite of this, I decide I will have to redefine the equals() method. Theory says I should also redefine the hash code method, but I can't see any reason why, in this case, I should do it. Can anyone point me out any other reason? This question can be rephrased to : in which situations should we implement a hash code method in our types. PS : I am not asking how to implement one. I am asking when.

• Best way to handle different panels occupying same area

  I have this application: I want to change the marked area when the user is clicked one of the navBarItems (like Microsoft OUTLOOK). I've been doing some research and a lot of people said that I can add several panels and show/hide them when user is clicked a navBarItem. But the area will contain a lot of gridviews and a lot of other controls. I don't know if I want to initialize all of them when application starts because it's gonna be hard on the cpu and memory to keep all the controls running at the same time. And I don't think it's an elegant solution for this kind of situation. But if I choose to initialize controls when user is clicked to corresponding navBarItem, it's gonna be laggy for the user. What is the best design approach for this situation? PS: I can use commercial libraries too. Thank you.

  I'm working on context-free grammars, and I have a function that returns the (terminal values of grammar) for example: i have non-terminal function that results in (A B) , from calling say ((A cat) (B happy np) (A B sad)) so technically A and B are non terminals of the grammar. Now I want to be able to get the terminals (cat happy np sad) (define terminals (lambda (lsts) (cond ((null? lsts) lsts) ((not(member? (car(car lsts)) (n-terminals lsts))) (cons (car(car lsts)) (terminals (car (cdr lsts))))) (else (terminals (cdr lsts)))))) PS: functionality of n-terminals is described above. member? is a boolean function that returns true if an item is a member of the list, false otherwise. My function returns an empty lst. What am I missing here?

• Find where a variable is defined in PHP (And/or SMARTY)?

  I'm currently working on a very large project, and am under a lot of pressure to finish it soon, and I'm having a serious problem. The programmer who wrote this last defined variables in a very odd way - the config variables aren't all in the same file, they're spread out across the entire project of over 500 files and 100k+ lines of code, and I'm having a hell of a time figuring out where a certain variable is, so I can fix an issue. Is there a way to track this variable down? I believe he's using SMARTY (Which I can not stand, due to issues like this), and the variable is a template variable. I'm fairly sure that the variable I'm looking for was initially defined as a PHP variable, then that variable is passed into SMARTY, so I'd like to track down the PHP one, however if that's impossible - how can I track down where he defined the variable for SMARTY? P.S. I'm in Vista, and don't have ssh access to the server, so 'grep' is out of the question.

It'll contain both characters with int or decimal numbers eg A12B32.25C-456D-75.E75 I'll know that this will start with A and ends with E I think I can use "^" and "$" right? but i'm bit lost in other parts to check for character and int or decimal.   I found some helpful stuff on this site but my input file is different from the examples already posted and I cannot make the leap in an efficient manner. My input file looks like this: sample_dude data1 data2 data3 data4 sample_lady data5 data6 data7 data8 sample_dude data9 data10 data11 data12 sample_child data13 data14 data15 data16 I want to create a separate file for each sample with all the data columns. For example, one file would be called sample_dude.txt and look like this: data1 data2 data3 data4 data9 data10 data11 data12 There is an unknown number of samples but always just four data columns. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you. PS: I'm trying to do this in python.
