  • Why does the Mac OS X (10.6) Finder stop being able to connect to Windows computers?

    - by Drarok
    We have one Mac (a MacBook Pro Unibody) amongst our Windows machines which connects to the "server" (actually a Dell running Windows XP Pro) to access documents. This works just fine most of the time, but sometimes after waking from sleep, it cannot connect to any Windows computer on the network. There are no errors (nor even any messages) in the Console application when attempting to connect either by the Finder's network browsing, nor when using the "Connect To Server" menu. I have tried "Relaunch" on Finder, toggled File Sharing, disabled and re-enabled the Airport, but nothing makes the Mac able to connect again until I reboot it! Other computers can connect to the machines, so it is definitely the Mac at fault. Are there any workarounds that anyone has found? Is there perhaps a way to re-start the samba client?

  • What's static.ak.fbcdn.net that appears on the status bar of my browser everytime Facebook is loading?

    - by Maverick
    I find the message: "waiting for static.ak.fbcdn.net..." on the status bar of my browser everytime I load Facebook and many a times even while loading other websites. I searched on net and found out that static.ak.fbcdn.net stands for static akamai facebook content delivery network. I reckon that static.ak.fbcdn.net is the server URL from where Facebook delivers contents to our browser. Am I right? Can anyone elaborate? Also, why does the above mentioned message appear while loading other websites too?

  • rails accessing value from facebooker hash/array

    - by Ben
    This is my first time using the facebooker plugin with rails, and I'm having trouble accessing user info. The website uses FB connect to authenticate users. I am trying to get the name of the university that the logged in user attends. When I use the command <%= facebook_session.user.education_history[:name] %>, I get an error "Symbol as array index". I have also tried using education_history[1], but that just returns "# Facebooker::EducationInfo:<some sort of alphanumeric hash value>" When I use something like <%= facebook_session.user.relationship_status %> , it returns the relationship status just fine. Similarly, <%= facebook_session.user.hometown_location.city %> returns the city name just fine. I've checked out the documentation for facebooker, but I can't figure out the correct way to get the values I need. Any idea on how to get this to work? Thanks!

  • The Kids Are Alright. With Facebook and SMS. But Not Twitter

    - by ultan o'broin
    I delivered a lecture to business and technology freshmen (late teens, I reckon) in Trinity College Dublin recently. I spoke about user experience in enterprise applications, trends that UX pros need to be aware of such as social media, community support, mobile and tablet platforms and a bunch of nuances around those areas (data and device security, privacy, reputation, branding, and so on). It was all fairly high level stuff given the audience, and I included lots of colorful screenshots. Irish-related examples helped to get the message across. During the lecture I did a quick poll. “How many students here use Twitter?” Answer: None. “How many use Facebook?” All (pretty much). So what do these guys like to use instead of Twitter? Easy - text messaging (or SMS if you like). They all had phones. Perhaps I should not have been so surprised about Twitter, but it’s always great to have research validated by some guerilla UX research on the street. There’s already quite a bit of research about teen uptake (or lack) of Twitter, telling us young adults don’t tweet. Twitter is seen as something for er, older people. Affordable devices and data plans that allow students to text really quickly are also popular (BlackBerry, for example). Younger people just luuurve to text each other. A lot.  Facebook versus Twitter for younger folks? Well, we know the story. No contest. I would love to engage more with students like these. I’ll plan for it. It will also be interesting to see if Twitter becomes more important to them over time. There were a few other interesting observations about the lack of uptake of Foursquare, Gowalla and mobile apps like that. I  don’t think there’s a huge uptake in these kind of apps in Ireland anyway, but maybe students have different priorities anyway?   I’ll return to that another day. • If the net is required to install an Atheros 8161 driver,how do I connect to the net without the driver?

    - by Paul
    If Ubuntu does not recognize hardware to connect to the net, and a net connection is necessary in order to install drivers for hardware that connects to the net, then how is such a system ever going to connect to the net? You can see the situation in this thread: How do I install drivers for the Atheros AR8161 Ethernet controller? and in this thread: build-essential and linux-headers-generic gives abort message Surely, surely, there is a way out of this catch-22.

  • Why can't a device connect through a wireless after router restart?

    - by Kalmar
    My laptop with lubuntu 12.04 used to connect to the wifi. But after the router (Cisco E4200) was restarted I cannot connect anymore through wireless connection. (No problem using a cable.) The network is hidden and secured by WPA/WPA2 Personal, I am the only person having this problem, so I guess it's somewhere on my side. What could cause such a problem, how to diagnose it and finally how to fix it?

  • Pourquoi tant de panique en cas de panne des services en ligne ? Et vous, comment réagissez-vous sans Gmail ou Facebook ?

    Pourquoi les gens ont-ils tant tendance à paniquer en cas de panne des services en ligne ? Et vous, comment réagissez-vous sans Gmail ou Facebook ? Hier, Twitter et Skype ont connu une grosse panne. Simultanée. Et, déjà, certains ont commencé à paniquer. Tout comme lorsque, la semaine dernière, Facebook a rencontré quelques 30 minutes d'indisponibilité générale. Que se passerait-il alors, si tous ces services web tombaient en panne en même temps, le même jour, à la même heure ? Plus de Twitter, ni de Skype, ni de Facebook, ni de Tumblr ou de Gmail ou de MSN. Horreur. En cas d'indisponibilité, les utilisateurs ont tendance à migrer en masse vers un autre moyen de communication. Mais que faire si aucun n...

    Google, Microsoft et Facebook sont-ils comparables ? Ou bien ces entreprises sont-elles trop uniques en leur genre ? Don Dodge, un passionné d'économie numérique travaillant chez Google et ayant travaillé pour Microsoft, se demande si trois grandes firmes de l'IT peuvent être comparables. En effet, Microsoft, Google et Facebook sont toutes trois très importantes, pour ne pas dire colossales, et elles sont toutes apparues comme innovantes à leur création. A leurs débuts, elles étaient nettement moins imposantes et les investisseurs hésitaient même à y investir. C'est un peu le cas de Facebook aujourd'hui, la firme surévaluée à outrance. Tous en veulent leur part, mais peu sont sûr de ce que cela va leur rapporter.

I have posted my code below if anyone can help me see my problem. string pgTitle = txtPageTitle.Text; Uri address = new Uri("http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php"); HttpWebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(address) as HttpWebRequest; request.Method = "POST"; request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; string action = "query"; string query = pgTitle; StringBuilder data = new StringBuilder(); data.Append("action=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(action)); data.Append("&query=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(query)); byte[] byteData = UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(data.ToString()); request.ContentLength = byteData.Length; using (Stream postStream = request.GetRequestStream()) { postStream.Write(byteData, 0, byteData.Length); } using (HttpWebResponse response = request.GetResponse() as HttpWebResponse) { // Get the response stream StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()); divWikiData.InnerText = reader.ReadToEnd(); }

  • Usage of Biztalk SAP Adapter without Biztalk Server to connect .NET and SAP

    - by Kottan
    Is it possible to use the Biztalk adapter pack whithout a Biztalk installation (Biztalk license is available)? I want to use the Biztalk Adapter for SAP RFC calls within a .NET Application (as a replacement of the SAP Connector for .NET, which is unfortunately no longer maintened by SAP and I don't can use third party products like "ErpConnect"). Makes this idea sense or not ? This questions can be also seen in conjunction of my question concerning connecting SAP and Microsoft (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2198168/microsoft-and-sap)

  • How to connect to SQL Server using activerecord, JDBC, JTDS and Integrated Security

    - by Rob
    As per the above, I've tried: establish_connection(:adapter => "jdbcmssql", :url => "jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://myserver:1433/mydatabase;domain='mynetwork';", :username => 'user', :password=>'pass' ) establish_connection(:adapter => "jdbcmssql", :url => 'jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://myserver:1433/mydatabase;domain="mynetwork";user="mynetwork\user"' ) establish_connection(:adapter => "jdbcmssql", :url => "jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://myserver:1433/mydatabase;domain='mynetwork';", :username=>'user' ) establish_connection(:adapter => "jdbcmssql", :url => "jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://myserver:1433/mydatabase;domain='mynetwork';integratedSecurity='true'", :username=>'user' ) .. and various other combinations. Each time I get: net/sourceforge/jtds/jdbc/SQLDiagnostic.java:368:in `addDiagnostic': java.sql.SQLException: Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (NativeException) Any tips?
