• R storing a complex search as a string

  Hi I'm working with a large data frame that I frequently need to subset in different combinations of variables. I'd like to be able to store the search in a string so I can just refer to the string when I want to see a subset. x = read.table(textConnection(" cat1 cat2 value A Z 1 A Y 2 A X 3 B N 2"),header=T,strip.white=T) search_string="cat1== 'A' & cat2=='Z'" with(x,subset(x,search)) doesn't work. What I'd be looking for is the result of a search similar to the one below. with(x,subset(x,cat1=='A' & cat2=='Z')) I'd prefer not to just create multiple subsetted data frames at the start if another solution exists. Is there a simple way to do what I'm trying?

  Assume you want to read an image file in a common file format from the hard drive, change the color of one pixel, and display the resulting image to the screen, in C++. Which (open-source) libraries would you recommend to accomplish the above with the least amount of code? Alternatively, which libraries would do the above in the most elegant way possible? A bit of background: I have been reading a lot of computer graphics literature recently, and there are lots of relatively easy, pixel-based algorithms which I'd like to implement. However, while the algorithm itself would usually be straightforward to implement, the necessary amount of frame-work to manipulate an image on a per-pixel basis and display the result stopped me from doing it.

Note that this is not just a syntax issue, I also need to index new_referrals somehow so that I'm able to do this. Either this, or if I can somehow add a new_referral_count to the first query, that'd work too.

  I am working in Flash CS5 and I have placed a text field (dynamic, classic text) on the stage. The H, Ls, and D are gone. Mysteriously. Without warning. I am sitting here utterly confused. Is this just me? PS. • How to save an image in it's original format?

  I am trying to figure out how I can get the original format of an image so that I can store it with the same encoding. It seems that the only way to save an Image is by using a BitmapEncoder but I don't know how I can get the correct format from the image. Example: Clipboard.GetImage() returns a InteropBitmap which doesn't seem to contain any information about the original format. Suppose a table of weekly movie Earnings as below, MovieName MovieGross WeekofYear Year So how do I get the names of top grossers for each week of this year If I do select MovieName , Max(MovieGross) , WeekofYear from earnings where year = 2010 group by WeekofYear; Then obviously query wont run, select Max(MovieName) , Max(MovieGross) , WeekofYear from earnings where year = 2010 group by WeekofYear; would just give movies starting with lowest alphabet Is using group-concat and then substring-index the only option here? select substring_index(group_concat(MovieName order by MovieGross desc),',',1), Max(MovieGross) , WeekofYear from earnings where year = 2010 group by WeekofYear ; Seems clumsy.. Is there any better way of acieveing this?

  Hi..:) For documentation and presentation purposes, we often find professionals/students creating SRS, coding guidelines etc. for these things there is some kind of a checklist which one could use to appropriately match what could relate to a specific case and accordingly one does a documentation for each. On those grounds could you please give me some sort of a checklist( any points/guidelines) one could use for going about Implementation( in the form of Implementation Details) in Python and C++ . Although this might sound specific as the query is "Implementation Details" and is different for different cases as one goes about the REAL implementation, I just want a SET of guidelines one should follow ( Preferably In Python, C++ specific, even for any other language is Welcome) if this( Implementation Details ) has to also be documented or presented. Hope the question is clear, I am sorry if it still sounds ambiguous, I guess this is the best I could do to frame my query. Thank you for your time...:)

  I tried (but nothing happens) self.txt.SetBackgroundColour ((255,0,0)) As said in the title I'm trying to change the background colour StyledTextCtrl. Does anyone know a method that could be used? I've checked the API docs but I couldn't seem to find one, http://wxpython.org/docs/api/wx.stc.StyledTextCtrl-class.html (by background colour, I mean the whole writing area, of course) Does anyone know a way I could do this?   I'm going to make a game for the iPhone, and I'm mostly going to be using images. I've read that using Quartz only is slow for actual games with high frame rates, so I was wondering if you guys had any good ideas for using OpenGL for rendering a game scene? I'm going to be using a lot of images, and I want to be able to freely rotate them. I've looked at Apple's examples GLSprite and GLPaint, but I don't really see anything I could use. All I want to do is be able to render images at specific positions, and want to be able to rotate them. I'm a noob at OpenGL, but I know Quartz.

• Can I set a style for the content of an iframe from the main page?

  We have a page the embeds a Google Calendar in an iframe. Recently, a warning box div began appearing on the calendar that looks like this: <div id="warningBox" style="color:#aa0000;">Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them.</div> Obviously the best solution here is to find the private events and remove them, but so far the search for those events has proved fruitless. This calendar is an aggregate of several calendars, including a few we don't control (ie weather). We're still looking, but in the meantime, I would like to try to hide that div. I know that iframes enforce the separation between the pages, such that the child page is pretty much a law unto itself. But surely there must be some way to set a style on an element inside the frame?

• plot only x and y axis (no box) in ggplot2

  The convention of some journals is to show only the x and y axis in a plot not a box around the entire plot area. How can I achieve this in ggplot2? • How can I collapse a dataframe by some variables, taking mean across others

  I need to summarize a data frame by some variables, ignoring the others. This is sometimes referred to as collapsing. E.g. if I have a dataframe like this: Widget Type Energy egg 1 20 egg 2 30 jap 3 50 jap 1 60 Then collapsing by Widget, with Energy the dependent variable, Energy~Widget, would yield Widget Energy egg 25 jap 55 In Excel the closest functionality might be "Pivot tables" and I've worked out how to do it in python (http://alexholcombe.wordpress.com/2009/01/26/summarizing-data-by-combinations-of-variables-with-python/), and here's an example with R using doBy library to do something very related (http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg02643.html), but is there an easy way to do the above? And even better is there anything built into the ggplot2 library to create plots that collapse across some variables?

  is there a way to run gwt on a proxy loaded web page ? ex) using proxy script on myexamplesite.com that loads finance.google.com, and running GWT on the newly loaded page. I've been doing the above before I found about GWT, using LAMP stack + Jquery (UI), which quickly turned out to be crap and inefficient. All this trouble to bypass browser's default Single Origin Policy. So, right now, is it possible to overcome this problem with GWT ? Is it possible to some how, run javascript on a html page from finance.google.com loaded into myexamplesite.com's frame with GWT or other solution? I am not looking to do JSON or RSS related topics. What I need is high lighted in bold. Is GWT + Gears what I should be using ? Thank you.

• A faster alternative to Pandas `isin` function

  I have a very large data frame df that looks like: ID Value1 Value2 1345 3.2 332 1355 2.2 32 2346 1.0 11 3456 8.9 322 And I have a list that contains a subset of IDs ID_list. I need to have a subset of df for the ID contained in ID_list. Currently, I am using df_sub=df[df.ID.isin(ID_list)] to do it. But it takes a lot time. IDs contained in ID_list doesn't have any pattern, so it's not within certain range. (And I need to apply the same operation to many similar dataframes. I was wondering if there is any faster way to do this. Will it help a lot if make ID as the index? Thanks!

• FFmpeg + iPhone - Interesting (incorrect?) video encoding results

  I'm encoding some video on the iPhone by running the png image data through swscale to get YUV420P data then encoding that frame using the MSMPEG4V1 codec. In the api docs, avcodec_encode_video should return the number of bytes used from the output buffer by that encode operation. There are 234,000 bytes going into the encoder, but the result returned by avcodec_encode_video is simply "4". The result is exactly the same over 24 frames. Something seems fishy here...any insight? Here's a pastebin link to the code: http://pastebin.com/ht94FWva (sorry for the link away from SO, I just didn't want to have the code duplicated in several places) EDIT: Also, I've set up a custom log callback for ffmpeg to use and I have the log level set to "Verbose" (libavutil/log.h), so libavcodec should be logging any goofs to the console, but avcodec is quiet throught he whole operation. (note: I did test to make sure my log callback was working)

• Writing Resources from filesystem in Android

  Hi, as I need to get a specific Frame from a Website I want to display in an WebView, I decided to grab the .html from the net and save it under file:///data/data//files/file.html. Stroed there I can edit it using regex or String methods. Now two questions: Is there a way to bind this file to an resource. e.g. to /res/raw/file.html and get it updated dynamically as i edit it? Or can i write the File directly to the resources? Is this whole stuff I do there any good or performant at all? I mean maybe there is a better way to get the .html code between two tags from a Webpage and display it via WebView. Kind regards Markus
