• Multiple video overlay - need advice

  Hi, I'm working on a project and I need some advice. Just some background, Im not a programmer though at times I do some fiddling and I am generally comfortable with more specific terms. Now for the actual issue, I have a folder with 10 small videos (4/7 secs max each) and I would like to display them full screen looping and overlaid. I'm not too sure on at what should I be looking at, I thought maybe processing but my most serious issue if that I cant even ask for help since I don't know what I need. Thank you for your time.

  Hi, I am trying to send database mail when error occurs inside the transaction.My setup for dbo.sp_send_dbmail is correct , when I execute the proc I do get an email within 1 min. However when I try to use dbo.sp_send_dbmail inside another proc within transactions than I do not get the email. Sql server does show in the result window that "Mail queued" but I never receive it. • Do you know a good and efficient FFT?

  Hi, I am trying to find a very fast and efficient Fourier transform (FFT). Does anyone know of any good ones. I need to run it on the iPhone so it must not be intensive. Instead, maybe you know of one that is wavelet like, i need frequency resolution but only a narrow band (vocal audio range up to 10khz max...even 10Khz might be too high). Im thinking also of truncating this FFT to keep the frequency resolution while eliminating the unwanted frequency band. This is for an iphone ...I have taken a look at the FFT in Aurio touch but it seems this is an int FFT but my app uses floats.....would it give a big performance increase to try and adapt program to an int FFT or not(which i really dont feel like doing...plus aurio touch uses a radix 2 FFT which is not that great).

• android custom map marker bounds

  Hello i am using a resized version of this marker( http://www.clker.com/clipart-orange-pin-4.html ) for showing markers in google maps on android. The problem is i don't know how to make the marker point match the coordinates.   Hey guys, I am working on a game, and wanted to add a screen that would open when the user clicked on certain objects. The screen would be laid out to have an image on the left, a title on the top right, and text below the title. I have a few problems with this, 1) How would I create the popup box? (preferably with rounded edges) 2) How would I wrap the text (in front of the picture, but not outside the popup-box, I may even need vertical scroll bars) 3) How would I account for different screen resolutions (would they even make a difference?) • How To Aggregate API Data?

  Hi, I have a system that connects to 2 popular APIs. I need to aggregate the data from each into a unified result that can then be paginated. The scope of the project means that the system could end up supporting 10's of APIs. Each API imposes a max limit of 50 results per request. What is the best way of aggregating this data so that it is reliable i.e ordered, no duplicates etc I am using CakePHP framework on a LAMP environment, however, I think this question relates to all programming languages. My approach so far is to query the search API of each provider and then populate a MySQL table. From this the results are ordered, paginated etc. However, my concern is performance: API communication, parsing, inserting and then reading all in one execution. Am I missing something, does anyone have any other ideas? I'm sure this is a common problem with many alternative solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul

• Simple MySQL Query taking 45 seconds (Gets a record and its "latest" child record)

  I have a query which gets a customer and the latest transaction for that customer. Currently this query takes over 45 seconds for 1000 records. This is especially problematic because the script itself may need to be executed as frequently as once per minute! I believe using subqueries may be the answer, but I've had trouble constructing it to actually give me the results I need. SELECT customer.CustID, customer.leadid, customer.Email, customer.FirstName, customer.LastName, transaction.*, MAX(transaction.TransDate) AS LastTransDate FROM customer INNER JOIN transaction ON transaction.CustID = customer.CustID WHERE customer.Email = '".$email."' • WCF: limit number of calls per hour - per user

  Hi guys, I've got a WCF service (basicHttpBinding, basic authentication, IIS 6.0) on which I want to restrict the number of calls per hour - on user basis. For example, max 1000 calls per user, per hour (a la Google Maps, etc). I also want to implement some sort of subscription mechanism, so that users can upgrade their call-limit across various 'price plans'. I know that I could achieve this with a custom Inspector, backed by a DB containing some sort of 'subscription' table and a counter, but I'd like to avoid reinventing the wheel. Does anyone have experience doing this? Are there 3rd party projects/libraries that support this out of the box? Thanks. Eric

• jQuery UI Autocomplete with scrollbar z-index help

  I have a textbox that I am attaching jQuery UI's Autocomplete functionality to and I am using CSS to give it a max height via the example here. My problem is that doing this causes the z-index problem that bgiframe solves to come back again, but in a different way. The initial autocomplete menu is above all the controls underneath it, but when I begin to scroll the autocomplete menu falls behind them. Any suggestions? EDIT: This is purely an IE6 bug. As you can see, after scrolling down the autocomplete falls behind the other controls.

• Exception design: Custom exceptions reading data from file?

  I have a method that reads data from a comma separated text file and constructs a list of entity objects, let's say customers. So it reads for example, Name Age Weight Then I take these data objects and pass them to a business layer that saves them to a database. Now the data in this file might be invalid, so I'm trying to figure out the best error handling design. For example, the text file might have character data in the Age field. Now my question is, should I throw an exception such as InvalidAgeException from the method reading the file data? And suppose there is length restriction on the Name field, so if the length is greater than max characters do I throw a NameTooLongException or just an InvalidNameException, or do I just accept it and wait until the business layer gets a hold of it and throw exceptions from there? (If you can point me to a good resource that would be good too)

  We want to get a row from a table using Hibernate a la: select max(id) from mytable where date = <date> Then select * from mytable where id = <max_id> We are currently using Hibernate to map mytable to Java domain objects. I know how to load the domain object based on an id. So I could just do #1 using JDBC and then load the domain object using Hibernate the "normal" way. But.. is there a way to do this with one single Hibernate logical query?

• Java HotSpot 1.6 VM, Garbage Collection - Scary PermGen

  Hi, My app shows rising 'Old Generation'/'Tenured Generation' size, and when this reaches the max limit for 'Old Gen', then suddenly PermGen size increases. Here are my generation sizings: -Xmx1200m -Xms1200m -Xmn450m -XX:MaxPermSize=600m -XX:+UseParallelGC This is on 32 bit Fedora so can't have a bigger heap than this. The app is not doing any fancy classloading, though it is using Spring IOC and Hibernate, the Spring App-context.xml defines some 1000 Beans. This app starts with 175MB PermGen, which steadily increases to ~250MB in few hrs, stays that way till Tenured Generation reached ~780 MB, then permgen jumps to ~500MB while Old Gen drops to ~500MB. This forces me to restart the App on daily basis, and gives me real scare of looming OutOfMemory Error.. Any insights would be very helpful. Thanks Gala101

• Would a Socket Connection Outperform an Intarvaled Database Sweep and Requests?

  I'm building a small chat application to add to an existing framework. There will only be 20-50 users MAX at any one time. I was wondering if I could get away with updating a cache file containing (semi) live chat data for whichever users happen to be chatting just by performing timed queries and regular AJAX refreshes for new data as opposed to learning how to open and maintain a socket connection. I'm sure there are existing chat plug-ins out there. But I just had a hell of a time installing one and I could see building the whole damn thing taking just as much time as plugging one in.   In locales, e.g. French, with comma as decimal indicator (where "5,2" means five and two-tenths), how do users separate function arguments from each other? For example, in many programming/scripting languages, I could specify MAX(1.5, X) in a EN-US locale. How do you avoid the ambiguity between the comma as decimal indicator, and as argument separator? In particular, I'm interested in how software that's perceived as user-friendly in the foreign locale does it. Obviously, it's a no-brainer to say, "thou shalt use decimal POINTs", but that's not particularly "friendly".

  Hello Guys, I'm a total noob when it comes to iPhone development and have been tasked to create a database app that can download and upload sqlite data to and from a server via http using web services. So far I already have a form for retrieving and saving data to a SQLite database and now I need some information on how I can upload the SQLite data to a server. • How to validate ToCheckList jQuery plugin (or multiple select fields)?

  Anyone ever use the toChecklist jQuery plugin? It basically turns a multi-select box into a list of checkboxes. Makes it easier for users to understand that they can choose more than one item - excellent plugin. However, I'm trying to make sure that users on my site pick at least 1 item in the list. ToChecklist has the capability of limiting the selection to a max value, but not minimum. I'm already using the jQuery validate plugin to validate the whole form, any ideas to get it to work against a multi-select box (which would then hopefully just work with toChecklist)? • More specific NSNumberFormatter failure behaviour

  I have an NSTextField into which I need the user to enter a number between a max and min, and it would be nice if I could detect when the NSNumberFormatter fails that particular test so I can either display a nicer message ("The number is too large" is not very helpful, it needs to display the valid range) or simply set the field automatically to the nearest valid value. I've looked at the NSTextField delegate's -control:didFailToFormatString:errorDescription: method which doesn't seem to allow you to modify the error, and I've looked at overriding the NSNumberFormatter's -getObjectValue:forString:range:error: method which does give me an NSError that I can modify, but there doesn't seem to be any way to determine which specific error was returned. Since I am just entering a simple integer, I don't need most of the functionality in NSNumberFormatter, would I be better off just writing my own formatter from scratch?

Up until now I have been programming this locally, now I need to publish the program onto the website; the issue is that FileStream can only access local files with elevated permissions.
