  Basic example, if I bought a chipset with a light socket and bulb soldered to the chipset; then put a USB cable with the mini-USB plug on the end to get plugged into the android phone. Can I write a Java application to turn on/off the light, get the status of the light(on/off) and maybe power a super-small led/bulb with power from the phone itself? I'm not familiar with graphic frameworks, I just used CoreGraphics, which I think is not optimized for that.   Hello. I have a problem validating data on view that is not strongly typed. I'm updating data from 3 different models on that view, and I have validation methods that work on them, but I don't know how to display the validation message. Where should I put validation messages (on strongly typed views I put them in ModelState, I presume that does not make sense in this case), and how should I display them (I doubt that I will be able to use "validationmessagefor", maybe "validationmessage" somehow)?

• Are there any solutions for translating measurement units on Rails?

  I'd like to implement measurement unit preferences in a Ruby on Rails app. For instance, the user should be able to select between displaying distances in miles or in kilometers. And, obviously, not only displaying, but entering values, too. I suppose all values should be stored in one global measurement system to simplify calculations. Are there any drop-in solutions for this? Or should I maybe write my own?

  Hi all, I'm aware of the Argotic framework for .Net that assists in the collation and management of Atom data, but does anybody know of a .Net application/framework that implements the Atom Publishing Protocol (APP)? Creating a .Net APP server from scratch seems a daunting task, even if it 'stands on the shoulders' of Argotic. Maybe a .Net rewrite of Apache Abdera (or other O/S implementation) would be easier. • 2 roles, admin and user. Is using anything other than basic http auth overkill?

  I'm building my first website with rails,it consists of a blog, a few static pages and a photo gallery. The admin section has namespaced controllers. I also want to create a mailing list, collecting contact info, (maybe a spree store in the future too.) Should I just use basic http authentication and check if the user is admin? Or is a plugin like authlogic better, then define user roles even though there would only be two; admin and user?

• Why do encodeXxx methods in UIComponent accept FacesContext parameter?

  I haven't ever before created custom components in JSF so I've noticed only now that methods like encodeBegin(), encodeEnd() etc accept FacesContext parameter. FacesContext instance can usually be received with FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(). So, I wonder whether these methods have FacesContext parameter just for convenience or some different objects can be passed there (maybe from external resources..). If the latter is possible then could you give an example pls.

  I'm trying out capybara with cucumber to get some better javascript test coverage. I have a lot of steps that check or use things from the Rails integration test helpers, for instance: assigns(:current_user).should_not be_nil No matter how I call assigns, even if I say something like p assigns it errors with: undefined method `template' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) So, it seems that I can't do that anymore. Is there an alternative to introspecting what's going on in the controller, or maybe some way of at least running those steps in such a way that I have the integration test stuff back?

• How do I preserve installed applications when migrating Ubuntu to another platform?

  I'm looking at maybe moving from an older AMD64 to a new Intel dual-core which is 32 bit. Installation isn't a problem but can I transfer all the installed apps? I haven't been able to find anything so far on Google except where the migration is to a similar platform and file-system. I won't change the filesystem but the platform will be different. Is there something on the lines of the "World" file in Gentoo?

• OpenGL: Implementing transformation matrix stack

  In a newer OpenGL there is no matrix stack. I am working on a simple display engine, and I am going to implement the transformation stack. What is a common strategy here? Should I build a push/pop stack, and use it with a tree representing my model? I suppose this is the "old" approach, that was deprecated in the newer OpenGL versions. Maybe then it is not the best solution (it was removed for some reason)
