• "Recursive" Wildcard DNS for Amazon Route 53

  The title of the question might be misleading because I'm not an expert and I'm trying to learn the proper terminology. That being said, I'm wondering if it's possible to setup a wildcard DNS record for any number of dot separation in domain names and have them all point to the network root. This is for WordPress multisite, users will have the option of choosing a mapped domain name, I want to configure my DNS so that both mysite.co.uk.network.com and mysite.com.network.com are valid (I realize this is a but ugly, but WordPress multisite requires that each site have a unique site_url and I'd prefer to preserve the period-delimited appearance if it's possible).

  I have a dedicated server with multiple IP adresses. I run them on Plesk but some of the names are confusing me. One ip has a subnet mask of 225.225.225.192, another has 225.225.225.0. What does this mean and what happens if i change that. Another thing i got a gateway. What is that and when will that come in handy. Another thing I see sometimes behind the ip's is /number. For example: 200.20.20.20/24 200.20.20.20/16 200.20.20.20/8 What will these numbers say.

• I want to move columns in a gradebook based on the column header title to another gradebook

  I have to average grades based on each objective for a new report card we have to complete this year. For example Column one has students names, each additional column will have the objective associated with the assignment. I would like to move the entire column to another sheet for each objective. Is there a formula or macro that will do that. For example objective 3.1A is in columns 2, 5, and 7, objective 3.2B is located in columns 1, 4, 10, and 12, objective 3.4c is in column 3, 6, 9, and 11. I would like to have a spreadsheet for each objective.

There is "MX" record for domain3 and no "A" records for domain3, only one for "www.domain3" Update" all domains are public and have fully-qualified names, all dns's are accessible." Update2: domain1 has only "A" record, but not the MX one. Can it be a problem?

We've changed some of the structure our our support system and need to replace the links inside the folder. Some of the links have different names and some are being completely removed. • Centos Virtual host loading default page

  I have asked a question which was related to this but not same, I have a centos VPS, which has two wordpress websites, one is mbas.co.in and another is onlinemba123.com, now for virtual hosting using just ONE IP ADDRESS, first I started mbas.co.in, which is working fine, when I added onlinemba123.com then, it is loading default Centos page instead of my website, and I am just testing my onlinemba123 website, I haven't configured DNS for it, I am testing it through editing my PC's hosts file, My website folder names are also same as in the conf file below Now my question is how can I load my website instead of Default page, is my virtual host config fine?   Im using Web Deploy with IIS7 and I want to grant permissions on a web site physical folder. Ive done this before (as I have another physical folder with r/w for WMSvc) but I have forgotten how I did it! When I go to the physical folder Security Tab Edit Add Object Name = WMSvc Check Names, I get 'An object named WMSvc cannot be found'?? I have the 'WMSvc' object listed fine in the 'Groups or usernames' on the other Folder I mentioned above. I feel a bit daft, what am I doing wrong, how can give folder permissions to WMSvc object on a physical folder?

  I need to configure windows NLB on 2 dedicated servers I have. My main machine has been running for some time, with several domain names pointing to the servers primary IP address. Both servers have 2 NIC's installed, and both have several secondary public IP addresses available if needed? What IP address would I use for the cluster IP, does this IP need to be added to the IP list of both public NIC's ip address list? What IP addresses do I use for the host's dedicated IP?   Some of my servers collect a lot of packet data. Is there a utility (or patch to tcpdump(1)) to log a pcap stream to disk which: Rotates based on size of data written Prunes written files, keeping only the N most recent Does not re-use output filenames Is self-contained (Ruling out, e.g., a rotation with external pruning via crond(8)+tmpwatch(8)) Basically I want a multilog or svlogd that groks the pcap record format. The -W filecount option of tcpdump-4.0.0 "prunes" by recycling old filenames, which violates #3 above, forcing me to consult mtimes to determine recency and providing no guarantees against surprise truncation of the log file. The -G option introduces strftime(2)-specifier support in output filenames, which would give me at least second-precision in file names, but I can't figure out how to get pruning to work with this scheme.

• OSX: Undeletable files

  So via what I suspect is a cron'd rsync gone awry, I noticed that I have ~25000 variants of .DS_Store in a directory that's on an external disk, they're named "..DS_Store.FOO" where FOO varies. The problem is that I can seem to delete them, even using the various tricks I've seen over the years for removing files with oddball names. No problem, I said - I moved all of the real files into another directory and then just tried to do an 'rm -r' on the original directory ... no luck, it fails to delete those files and says directory not empty. Tried it again with 'rm -rf' and still no luck. I have no idea how to get rid of this thing, does anyone have any idea?

• sqlcmd won't execute - Claims Native Client not installed properly

  I'm trying to use sqlcmd to execute some SQL scripts. Using a test command with a simple query like: sqlcmd -S HOSTNAME -d MYDATABASE -Q 'SELECT Names FROM Customers' sqlcmd does not appear to make any attempt to connect to the server as it displays this message: Sqlcmd: Error: Connection failure. SQL Native Client is not installed correctly. To correct this, run SQL Server Setup. The native client was presumably installed as part of the SQL Server setup and likely correctly. I actually get this message on any machine with SQL server installed trying to use sqlcmd so it's not a matter of the installation being corrupt. Unfortunately the message really tells me nothing about the problem so I don't know what the real issue is. I know the SQL Native client is working properly since a vbscript was able to execute SQL queries against the database. Is there some additional configuration needed to use sqlcmd?

• Reliable cheap or free DNS service?

  I'm looking for a reliable free or cheap DNS service. I've used FreeDNS at FreeDNS.Afraid.org in the past, but it doesn't always seem reliable... sometimes people say they can't access my website (sometimes I can't access it either) by domain name, and yet if I type in the IP address it works fine, so I assume it's some sort of DNS problem. Are there any other cheap or free DNS services out there? I need something reliable that I can manage via a web interface (or scripts if they have an API) that I can use to manage the DNS for ~100 domain names. EDIT: To be clear, I'm looking for DNS hosting, not DNS servers to use for my WAN connection.

• How would I setup reverse DNS for 2 email servers?

  I have an interesting DNS question (well interesting to me atleast). I just installed an hmail server in our remote office to act as an MX backup in the event our exchange server goes down. The 2 host names are mail.campbellsurvey.com mail2.campbellsurvey.com mail points to the address 98.XXX.91.XXX mail2 points to the address 70.XXX.190.XXX How would I setup a PTR record on the ISP end to reflect both hostnames? Does the PTR have to point to EXACTLY mail.campbellsurvey.com or can it point to just campbellsurvey.com? because right now anything passing through the primary static address in our pool (the one used for standard internet) is identified as mail.campbellsurvey.com. My only idea to fix this was to move the mail server to the next available address and give it only it the name mail.campbellsurvey.com but I wanted to see if there was another way. • Mercurial hgwebdir configuration URL

  I'm setting up an hgwebdir configuration for the first time with Mercurial on apache2. I can see the three repositories I've set up in the first page, and I've figured out how to modify their names so they don't resemble the directory path. But when I click to go to one of the repositories, the URL becomes http://localhost/hg/hgweb.cgi/path/to/repos. I would like the directory to be http://localhost/hg/name instead as that is easier to remember for people who want to clone the repository. Is there anyway to do that with hgwebdir?

  I have a machine with two harddrives. I have installed OpenSolaris on one of them and now I want to add the other one as a mirror-drive in my zpool. But to do that I have to know the name of my drive, something like c7d0s0. Using the command zpool status can I see the harddrives already in use in my zpool but not the hard-drives that are not in use. How can I list the names of the hard-drives that are not in use in any zpool or list the name of all my hard-drives?

• Ubuntu whois package and request limits

  I'm writing a django app with a form that accepts an IP and does a whois lookup on the discovered domain names. I've found the Ubuntu package whois which I plan to call from a python subprocess, and read the stdout into a StringIO, then parse for things like Registrar, Name Servers, etc. My question is, it seems that there are many paid whois services, which means that there must be a reason why people don't just use this Ubuntu package. I'm wondering if there's a request limit on the number of requests from a single IP to the package's whois server? I will probably be making 250 domain lookups per IP or maybe more. Also, I've found that some domains aren't searchable: qmul.ac.uk is searchable kat.ph is not searchable ahram.org.eg is not searchable Any particular reason for that?

  According to the cluster documentation, you can either define data nodes with: [ndbd] NodeId=n HostName=1.2.3.4 or [ndbd] NodeId=n ExecuteOnComputer=m [computer] Id=m HostName=1.2.3.4 I don't see a substantial difference between the two. The documentation has this to say: The [computer] section has no real significance other than serving as a way to avoid the need of defining host names for each node in the system. I'm stumped. If I have to define a hostname, what benefit is there to defining it in [computer] instead of [ndbd]?

• IDN and HTTP_HOST

  So, when I want to link my users to a specific page I always use (in php): "http://" . $_SERVER["HTTP_HOST"] . "/page.php", to be sure that the link points to the page they're currently surfing (and not one of the server aliases). But with IDN names, HTTP_HOST is set to "xn--hemmabst-5za.net" (for example) - which of course works but doesn't look very nice. Is there a way to have HTTP_HOST set to the correct IDN name in these cases (in this case - "hemmabäst.net")? I rather do it in Apache before it comes to PHP, because otherwise I'd have to replace all my usage of $_SERVER["HTTP_HOST"]. Any ideas?

• Redirect URL using Mac OS X Server Lion

  I have just set up a Mac Mini with OS X Lion Server to host my own website. I have registered multiple domain names, but I would like the user to be automatically redirected to my main domain name if they type in one of the others (i.e. if the user types in www.myotherdomain.com the URL will be forwarded instantly to www.mymaindomain.com). In the Web settings of Server.app, you can easily add additional domains (which works) but it does not change the URL in the browser to www.mymaindomain.com. It keeps www.myotherdomain.com whilst still displaying the correct pages. Does the redirects or alias options do what I want? I can't seem to work out how to use them (there seems to be no documentation that I can find). In Redirects, you need to enter: 'Redirect Type' (Exact Match or Regular Expression) 'Redirect Path' 'Destination URL' 'Redirect Status' (Original was permanently moved, etc) In Alias, you need to enter: 'Alias Type' (Exact Match or Regular Expression) 'Alias Path' 'Destination Folder' Any help would be great.

• Excel Help: Userforms

  I have developed a macro that does a whole bunch of things for me based on a few things. (Importing files). The file names are dated dd_mm_yyyy and right now I enter them into a sheet where the macro can call the information. Not really wanting this I designed a userform where the user could enter the "dd", "mm", "yyyy" and how many consecutive days of files there were. Ex. Say 28_06_2011.txt 29_06_2011.txt there would be one consecutive day. I want to be able to call the information entered in the user-form (day, month, year, and consecutive days) to use in the macro and have been unsuccessful because I don't know how to call that information. Is it similar to referring to a range in a worksheet? Thanks in Advance for any Help.

• Fast user switching is logging users off instead of switching users

  I have a netbook running Windows 8.1 Pro that will no longer allow more than one user to be logged in at the same time. The steps necessary to reproduce this are as follows: The current user presses WIN to bring up the start screen. The user clicks his name in the corner and a list of other users appears. As soon as one of the other names is clicked, the user is unceremoniously logged off without any prompts. This behavior seems to have started some time after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. Before that point, everything worked fine and more than one user could be logged in at the same time. I've tried searching for others experiencing similar problems but this appears to be unique. System Details: CPU: Intel Atom N455 @ 1.66 GHz RAM: 1 GB OS: Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center 32-bit

• What's the difference between the BitTorrent clients named "BitTorrent" and "µTorrent"?

  A similar question was asked but never really addressed the question, I think in part because of terminology confusion. So to be very clear: what's the difference between the two BitTorrent client, one named "BitTorrent" and the one named "µTorrent"? They look to have identical UIs, right down to the same checkboxes in the prefs dialogs. Why are there two programs with different names that appear to be identical? Is one superior to the other? (Are they different in any way?) Thanks.
