  This belongs on Meta but I can't ask it there since, well, I can't log in :-) I'm unable to log into my account using my OpenID, josh.gitlin.name on either StackOverflow or Meta. The error message I receive after entering my OpenID on the login page and pressing "Login" is: Unable to log in with your OpenID provider: Error occurred while sending a direct message or getting the response My alternate OpenID hmblprogrammer.pip.verisignlabs.com doesn't work either. Anything I can try? (And is there any way this question can be associated with my account even though I'm not logged in?)

  If I were to extricate my current membership provider from my solution, i.e. as a dll and expose it as a web service with it's own db, how would I model the relationships with regards to SOA design. For example I have a table: USER id, name, lastname, username, password, role. and table PRODUCT id, name, price, createdate, userid the foreign key being userid to table user. How would I model the relationship and/or query the db. If I wanted to get all products that were uploaded today for example, before I would query: SELECT u.name, u.lastname, u.username, p.* FROM PRODUCT p INNER JOIN USER u ON p.userid = u.id WHERE createdate = '05/05/2010' Now that I don't have the table within the database how would I perform this query?   I am able to auto-generate a SQL Server CE 4.0 *.sdf file using code-first generation as explained by Scott Guthrie here. What am I doing wrong ? I use a PostGreSQL database and a Hibernate as JPA provider.

  Referencing http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1827997/is-facebook-an-openid-provider here. This is kind of an additional question based on it. I have also read the article at : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2264266/what-is-the-openid-url-of-facebook - but I am still pretty confused on the whole ordeal. The goal is for people who use facebook to easily login to our website, not to neccessarily integrate with facebook and add things to it (yet). I have read the documentation on facebook connect and am still having trouble grasping exactly what we need to do to accomplish this. I notice that it says that facebook accepts openid logins - so in theory someone with a facebook account could login to a site that took other openid logins, correct? Or do I have to code a separate 'facebookconnect' system just to accept logins from facebook accounts?

  using ASP.NET I need to update an excel template. Our server is running Windows 2008 in 64 bit mode. IF the application pool is set to Enable 32 bit applications the code works as expected; however the oracle driver I am using fails as it is only 64 bit. • What's the difference between the 'DES' class and The 'DESCryptoServiceProvider' class?

  All I can make out is that one of them is the BC for all 'DES' algorithms to be derived from and the later is a wrapper for the Cryptographic service provider implementation of the DES algorithm. The reason why I ask is that I am going over .Net Security and the MS official training book simply refers to the DES class but the another official MS book refers to the DESCrypto' class. What's the difference between these two? When would you use either of them? What do I need to know as far as the 70-536 exam is concerned. I am expecting to use JMS (with MDBs), Session beans (stateful and stateless), JPA and I am really excited about using JSF with Seam. Now, given choices above, are there any advantages in using one or another embedded EJB provider?

• How should I compensate for a bad WSDL?

  I've come across several examples of SOAP-based web services where automated tooling fails to build a client that works. Investigating these examples leads me to believe that the WSDL the service uses to describe itself doesn't quite match the service that's being provided. Maybe a wrong type somewhere, a different data structure - something. I'm unsure what the most appropriate response is - if we assume that the obvious one (get the provider to fix their stuff) isn't available. Some options I can think of: Make a fixed WSDL? Hack the generated code? Any other options? No good options? What good experiences have people had? What works in a real environment? Thanks

  I'm building a payment page in asp.net, however the page where you order your items is run in HTTP (non-secure) on my domain. When redirecting the user to the payment site, I have to go through a different domain (my payment provider, from whom I borrow the SSL certificate), so my payment url ends up like https://www.paymentprovider.com/somescript.cgi/www.mydomain.com/mypaymentpage.aspx Now the problem is my session is lost, but I store the order in session, so I desperately needs it. Can I somehow send the SessionID in querystring, and restore the session from it - or do I need to stuff the entire order into querystring ? (Not too certain it'll fit though, it's rather long) Any help will be highly appreciated :-)

• ASP.NET MVC UpdateModel - fields vs properties??

  I refactored some common properties into a base class and immediately my model updates started failing. UpdateModel() and TryUpdateModel() did not seem to update inherited public properties. I cannot find detailed info on MSDN nor Google as to the rules or semantics of these methods. The docs are terse (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd470933.aspx), simply stating: Updates the specified model instance using values from the controller's current value provider. SOLVED: MVC.NET does indeed handle inherited properties just fine. This turned out to have nothing to do with inheritance. My base class was implemented with public fields, not properties. Switching them to formal properties (adding {get; set; }) was all I needed. This has bitten me before, I keep wanting to use simple, public fields. I would argue that fields and properties are syntactically identical, and could be argued to be semantically equivalent, for the user of the class.

  Is there any way to use PHP code to query a DNSBL (block list) provider and find out if the IP address submitted is a bad actor? I would like to take an existing IP address out of a registration database, then check whether it's a known block-listed IP address by performing a lookup on it, then if it's a blacklisted, do an action on it (such as, delete entry from registration database). Most of the instructions I have seen assume you are trying to query the blocklist via a mail server, which I can't do. I tried querying via web browser by typing in queries such as "58.64.xx.xxx.dnsbl.sorbs.net" but that didn't work.

  I have an application I am converting over from vb6 to vb.net 2.0/3.5. Using Subsonic 2.2 and the vb.net Interop Toolkit 2005. Cannot seem to get the .net form using subsonic to work inside the interop environment. It keeps saying it cannot find the subsonic service provider in the app.config. But I know it is there. • ODBC Linked server in sql 2005 doesn’t work from remote box

  I have a dev workstation with sql 2005 installed and in it I created a linked server to a odbc connection to a clarion database. I can run select statements against it inside sql Mgt studio. When I take a second workstation and connect to the sql on the first box using sql mgt studio, then try the exact same query I get OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "liveclarion" returned message "[SoftVelocity Inc.][TopSpeed ODBC Driver][ISAM]ISAM Table Not Found". Any thoughts? It appears to have the same functionality on a second sql server. No remote sql mgt studio connect success in queries against my linked ODBC clarion DB. All done with windows authentication and the same AD user.

  I'm working on an automatic trading system. What sorts of safe-guards should I have in place? The main idea I have is to have multiple pieces checking each other. I will have a second independent little process which will also connect to the same trading account and monitor simple things, like ensuring the total net position does not go over a certain limit, or that there are no more than N orders in 10 minutes for example, or more than M positions open simultaneously. You can also check that the actual open positions correspond to what the strategy process thinks it actually holds. As a bonus I could run this checker process on a different machine/network provider. Besides the checks in the main strategy, this will ensure that whatever weird bug occurs, nothing really bad can happen. Any other things I should monitor and be aware of?

• What considerations should be made for a web app to be released on a cloud hosted system?

  I have a web app that is primarily a WordPress app, but it pulls content from a Django app, simply by calling a service that uses Django models. My understanding of cloud computing is a bit vague. If the site needs to scale up with short notice, does the cloud provider (Amazon, Rackspace, whomever) simply spin up new instances (copies) of my initially configured server? How is state managed between all of them? Are there any good primers on this subject? It's hard to find much out there without getting caught up in the marketing.
