  • Apache2 default vhost in alphabetical order or override with _default_ vhost?

    I've got multiple named vhosts on an Apache web server (CentOS 5, Apache 2.2.3). Each vhost has their own config file in /etc/httpd/vhosts.d and these vhost config files are included from the main httpd conf with... Include vhosts.d/*.conf Here's an example of one of the vhost confs... NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.domain.biz ServerAlias domain.biz www.domain.biz DocumentRoot /var/www/www.domain.biz <Directory /var/www/www.domain.biz> Options +FollowSymLinks Order Allow,Deny Allow from all </Directory> CustomLog /var/log/httpd/www.domain.biz_access.log combined ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/www.domain.biz_error.log </VirtualHost> Now I when anyone tries to access the server directly by using the public IP address, they get the first vhost specified in the aggregated config (so in my case it's alphabetical order from the vhosts.d directory). Anyone accessing the server directly by IP address, I'd like them to just get an 403 or a 404. I've discovered several ways to set a default/catch-all vhost and some conflicting opinions. I could create a new vhost conf in vhosts.d called 000aaadefault.conf or something but that feels a bit nasty. I could have a <VirtualHost> block in my main httpd.conf before the vhosts.d directory is included. I could just specify a DocumentRoot in my main httpd.conf What about specifying a default vhost in httpd.conf with _default_ http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/examples.html#default Would having a <VirtualHost _default_:*> block in my httpd.conf before I Include vhosts.d/*.conf be the best way for a catch-all?

    I've been having a complete nightmare trying to configure proftpd. I've got proftp server working with an sql database. However I want to have any files uploaded able to viewed by the webserver running on the same box. The folders get created in /var/tmp/ as rwx------ 2 ftpuser ftpgroup 4096 Oct 8 20:35 50730c4346512 drwx------ 2 ftpuser ftpgroup 4096 Oct 8 20:38 50730f3a811ca I've tried adding www-data to group with the following usermod -g www-data ftpuser But this doesn't allow the web server access. In proftpd.conf I have the following umask set Umask 0022 It doesn't seem to make a difference what I set that value to. /etc/group (sure I've messed up one of these two but I'm getting desperate) ftpgroup:x:2001:www-data www-data:x:33:ftpgroup /etc/passwd www-data:x:33:33:www-data:/var/www:/bin/sh proftpd:x:108:65534::/var/run/proftpd:/bin/false ftp:x:109:65534::/srv/ftp:/bin/false ftpuser:x:2001:33:proftpd user www-data:/bin/null:/bin/false The ftpuser table in the database has uid / gid set to 2oo1 for both. I'm going absolutely crazy trying to solve this any help would be greatly appreciated. p.s Also, although if I manually connect to the ftp server I can upload files via FileZilla. Although this isn't working for the web-camera, although there is talky talky going on between the server and the camera.

So I'm trying to have any incoming requests for the second domain to be proxied to the other server to access the webmail, whether its port 80 or 443. IMAP and POP3 are no problems, I can just forward the ports directly to the correct server. The results of the above configuration is that requests to domain2.com.au (port 80 or 443) are forwarded to https://domain1.com.au. Am I headed in the right direction?

  • trouble executing php scripts with nginx

Now as per my understanding of nginx config rules, when i am in my webroot(/) which is /var/www the value of $document_root becomes /var/www so when i request for localhost/hi.php the fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME becomes /var/www/hi.php and that is the actual path of the php script. Similarly when i request for localhost/folder1/hi.php the $document_root becomes /var/www/folder1 because this is specified as the root in folder1's location block so again the fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME becomes /var/www/folder1/hi.php. But because the above configuration does not work so there is something wrong with my understanding. Please help?

    This is a Canonical Question about File Permissions on a Linux web server. I have a Linux web server running Apache2 that hosts several websites. Each website has its own folder in /var/www/. /var/www/contoso.com/ /var/www/contoso.net/ /var/www/fabrikam.com/ The base directory /var/www/ is owned by root:root. Apache is running as www-data:www-data. The Fabrikam website is maintained by two developers, Alice and Bob. Both Contoso websites are maintained by one developer, Eve. All websites allow users to upload images. If a website is compromised, the impact should be as limited as possible. I want to know the best way to set up permissions so that Apache can serve the content, the website is secure from attacks, and the developers can still make changes. One of the websites is structured like this: /var/www/fabrikam.com /cache /modules /styles /uploads /index.php How should the permissions be set on these directories and files? I read somewhere that you should never use 777 permissions on a website, but I don't understand what problems that could cause. During busy periods, the website automatically caches some pages and stores the results in the cache folder. All of the content submitted by website visitors is saved to the uploads folder.

  • 2 Web Servers, 2 Domains, 1 WAN IP configuration

    The Problem: I have 2 domains, 2 web servers, 1 WAN IP. This is on a home network, so I don't have any crazy router or anything with the right tools, at least I don't think I do. I have a Dlink DIR-655 router. I need to be able to forward the website to the right box. 1 server is hosting www.site1.com, and the other should be hosting, www.site2.com. I forwarded the domain, to a port that is forwarded to that box. wanip:1235, 1235 is then forwarded to the internal IP of site2's server. But when I go to www.site2.com I get the 404 page of www.site1.com. I need www.site2.com to go to the right server. Is this something I can do in the virtual hosts of www.site1.com or is it something else. Also, if this isn't entirely possible, or if its a big process, I can just move www.site1.com to the www.site2.com's server, and use virtual hosts, that is an option that I would be okay with.

    I have a managed server (unable to control apache settings) with the default document root of: /var/www I have a web app running in: /var/www/subdomains/app/webroot I have a dedicated domain managed by the host that has the aforementioned webroot which works perfectly. I would like to allow externally provisioned domains to point to the server/web app via A Record config. If I access the site via IP, it takes me to the index located in /var/www. I would like to configure the .htaccess in my /var/www directory to rewrite requests from the external subdomain to the /var/www/subdomains/app/webroot directory. I've done so using the following rules: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} external\.domain\.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /var/www/subdomains/app/webroot/index.php?url=$1 [L,QSA] When accessing external.domain.com, the app loads properly, but the paths to things like CSS files, images, etc. are prefixed with "/subdomains/app/", causing broken links. I've tried changing the RewriteBase (both in /var/www and /var/www/subdomains/app/webroot), as I believe that's what it's designed for - but no luck. Any ideas? FYI the app is built on CakePHP.     Hello, Looking for someone to either confirm or refute my theory that deploying two iframes pointing to two different stateful pages on the same domain can lead to JSESSIONIDs being overwritten. Here's what I mean: Setup suppose you have two pages that require HttpSession state (session affinity) to function correctly - deployed at http://www.foo.com/page1 and http://www.foo.com/page2 assume www.foo.com is a single host running a Tomcat (6.0.20, fwiw) that uses JSESSIONID for session id's. suppose these pages are turned into two iframe widgets to be embedded on 3rd party sites: http://www.site.com/page1" / (and /page2 respectively) suppose there a 3rd party site that wishes to place both widgets on the same page at http://www.bar.com/foowidgets.html Can the following race condition occur? a new visitor goes to http://www.bar.com/foowidgets.html browser starts loading URLs in foowidgets.html including the two iframe 'src' URLs because browsers open multiple concurrent connections against the same host (afaik up to 6 in chrome/ff case) the browser happens to simultaneously issue requests for http://www.foo.com/page1 and http://www.foo.com/page2 The tomcat @ foo.com receives both requests at about the same time, calls getSession() for the first time (on two different threads) and lazily creates two HttpSessions and, thus, two JSESSIONIDs, with values $Page1 and $Page2. The requests also stuff data into respective sessions (that data will be required to process subsequent requests) assume that the browser first receives response to the page1 request. Browser sets cookie JSESSIONID=$Page1 for HOST www.foo.com next response to the page2 request is received and the browser overwrites cookie JSESSIONID for HOST www.foo.com with $Page2 user clicks on something in 'page1' iframe on foowidgets.html; browser issues 2nd request to http://www.foo.com/page1?action=doSomethingStateful. That request carries JSESSIONID=$Page2 (and not $Page1 - because cookie value was overwritten) when foo.com receives this request it looks up the wrong HttpSession instance (because JSESSIONID key is $Page2 and NOT $Page1). Foobar! Can the above happen? I think so, but would appreciate a confirmation. If the above is clearly possible, what are some solutions given that we'd like to support multiple iframes per page? We don't have a firm need for the iframes to share the same HttpSession, though that would be nice. In the event that the solution will still stipulate a separate HttpSession per iframe, it is - of course - mandatory that iframe 1 does not end up referencing httpSession state for iframe 2 instead of own. off top of my head I can think of: map page1 and page2 to different domains (ops overhead) use URL rewriting and never cookies (messes up analytics) anything else? thanks a lot, -nikita

    I'm a beginner in ruby-on-rails and I spent my last hour trying to do the following thing: I have a ruby-on-rails application - the blog with posts and categories. I want to have another URL for the posts (I would like to have http://localhost:3000/news instead of http://localhost:3000/posts) First I tried to replace the controller and classes from Posts to News, but I gave up(because of the annoyng singular-plural thing). Then in my I replaced map.resources :posts (case 1) to map.resources :news, :controller => "posts" #case 2 or map.resources :posts, :as => 'news' #case 3 in routes.rb as I saw on some websites. It doesn't work either. How can I do this?   • SQL query mixing aggregated results and single values

    I have a table with transactions. Each transaction has a transaction ID, and accounting period (AP), and a posting value (PV), as well as other fields. Some of the IDs are duplicated, usually because the transaction was done in error. To give an example, part of the table might look like: ID PV AP 123 100 2 123 -100 5 In this case the transaction was added in AP2 then removed in AP5. Another example would be: ID PV AP 456 100 2 456 -100 5 456 100 8 In the first example, the problem is that if I am analyzing what was spent in AP2, there is a transaction in there which actually shouldn't be taken into account because it was taken out again in AP5. In the second example, the second two transactions shouldn't be taken into account because they cancel each other out. I want to label as many transactions as possible which shouldn't be taken into account as erroneous. To identify these transactions, I want to find the ones with duplicate IDs whose PVs sum to zero (like ID 123 above) or transactions where the PV of the earliest one is equal to sum(PV), as in the second example. This second condition is what is causing me grief. So far I have SELECT * FROM table WHERE table.ID IN (SELECT table.ID FROM table GROUP BY table.ID HAVING COUNT(*) > 1 AND (SUM(table.PV) = 0 OR SUM(table.PV) = <PV of first transaction in each group>)) ORDER BY table.ID; The bit in chevrons is what I'm trying to do and I'm stuck. Can I do it like this or is there some other method I can use in SQL to do this? Edit 1: Btw I forgot to say that I'm using SQL Compact 3.5, in case it matters. Edit 2: I think the code snippet above is a bit misleading. I still want to mark out transactions with duplicate IDs where sum(PV) = 0, as in the first example. But where the PV of the earliest transaction = sum(PV), as in the second example, what I actually want is to keep the earliest transaction and mark out all the others with the same ID. Sorry if that caused confusion. Edit 3: I've been playing with Clodoaldo's solution and have made some progress, but still can't get quite what I want. I'm trying to get the transactions I know for certain to be erroneous. Suppose the following transactions are also in the table: ID PV AP 789 100 2 789 200 5 789 -100 8 In this example sum(PV) < 0 and the earliest PV < sum(PV) so I don't want to mark any of these out. If I modify Clodoaldo's query as follows: select t.* from t left join ( select id, min(ap) as ap, sum(pv) as sum_pv from t group by id having sum(pv) <> 0 ) s on t.id = s.id and t.ap = s.ap and t.pv = s.sum_pv where s.id is null This gives the result ID PV AP 123 100 2 123 -100 5 456 -100 5 456 100 8 789 100 3 789 200 5 789 -100 8 Whilst the first 4 transactions are ok (they would be marked out), the 789 transactions are also there, and I don't want them. But I can't figure out how to modify the query so that they're not included. Any ideas?

  • GoogleTv video using VideoView is clipped, even though its in a separate layout of its own

    Wrote an application for GoogleTV box to play a video. The video is a separate activity to the main activity. Wired up a button on my main layout/activity to to start the video activity up (using its own video.xml layout), the video activity loads and starts playing, but the video is clipped, only showing a few centimetres of the bottom. The clipped region looks like the views that occupied the previous layout (main.xml) . The intriguing thing is that if I push the back button, before returning to the main activity the full video frame is shown. Not sure what I am doing wrong here. Any suggestions welcome.   • Strange issues with view switcher after object animator animations

    I have two LinearLayout views that contain a number of edit texts and checkboxes for entering user information (name, email address etc). When a validation fails on one of these fields a gone textview is displayed showing the validation error. I have enclosed the two layouts within a ViewSwitcher and I animate between the two views using the ObjectAnimator class. (Since the code needs to support older versions of Android I am actually using the nineoldandroids backwards compatibility library for this). The bulk of the work is performed in my switchToChild method. If I flip the views more than twice then I start to run into strange errors. Firstly although the correct child view of the view animator is displayed it seems that the other view has focus and I can click on the views beneath the current one. I resolved this issue by adding a viewSwitcher.bringChildToFront at the end of the first animation. When I do this however and perform a validation on the 2nd view the "gone" view that I have now set to visible is not displayed (as if the linearlayout is never being re-measured).   • @Transactional in Spring+Hibernate

    I an using Spring 3.1 + Hibernate 4.x in my web application. In my DAO, i am saving User type object as following sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().save(user); But getting following exception: org.hibernate.HibernateException: save is not valid without active transaction I googled and found similar question on SO, with following solution: Session session=getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession(); Transaction trans=session.beginTransaction(); session.save(entity); trans.commit(); That solves the problem. But in that solution, there is lot of mess of beginning and committing the transactions manually. Can't i use sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().save(user); directly without begin/commit of transactions manually? I try to use @Transactional on my service/dao methods too, but the problem persists. I also have this big image and when you click on one of the thumbnails, the image is replaced by the thumbnail and thats really the thumbnail I want to exclude...Could I possible just say if one of the 3 images src = this one image = src remove the class from this thumbnail? Which way would be better? I am very new at jquery :( I hope this makes sense.
