  • Serializing C# objects to DB

    I'm using a DB table with various different entities. This means that I can't have an arbitrary number of fields in it to save all kinds of different entities. I want instead save just the most important fields (dates, reference IDs - kind of foreign key to various other tables, most important text fields etc.) and an additional text field where I'd like to store more complete object data. the most obvious solution would be to use XML strings and store those. The second most obvious choice would be JSON, that usually shorter and probably also faster to serialize/deserialize... And is probably also faster. But is it really? My objects also wouldn't need to be strictly serializable, because JsonSerializer is usually able to serialize anything. Even anonymous objects, that may as well be used here. What would be the most optimal solution to solve this problem?

    Hi Folks I've read through a lot of the "Learn C# .Net" questions just to see if this question was answered already (directly or indirectly). I program mostly in C++ so I find the website http://www.cplusplus.com/ invaluable and there's rarely a day when it is not open in my browser! However, I'm just wondering is there an C# .Net equivalent that people find themselves constantly referencing?   • Where should Nhibernate IPostInsertEventListener go in the 3 tier architecture

    I have a IPostInsertEventListener implementation like public class NHibernateEventListener : IPostInsertEventListener, IPostUpdateEventListener which catches some entity inserts and does an additional insert to another table for ETL. Essentially it requires references to the Nhibernate, Domain entity and Repository<> Now where do I go about adding this class? If I add it to ApplicationServices I’ll end up referencing Nhibernate at that layer. If I add this to the Data layer, I’ll have to reference Domain (circular). How do I go implementing this class with S#arp principles? Any thoughts?

  • Silverlight 4 Assembly Sharing Problem

    I have a WPF .NET 4.0 class library referencing a Silverlight 4 class library. The SL library compiles fine but when I compile the WPF class library, I get: Error 2 Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event.' MyProj.Presentation.Wpf I figure the problem must be similar to the one mentioned here: http://markti.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D92CF278F0F91957!273.entry but my WPF library doesn't contain any XAML that references a user control from my SL library. In fact, my SL library doesn't have any XAML in it at all. It does, however, have several shared DependencyObjects, such as an EventCommander (binding UI element events to Commands), and some DataTemplate helpers. Is there any way I can narrow down the problem here? And has anyone found a way of effectively referencing UI elements in a SL4 project from .NET 4.0? Thanks.

    From a method, I can pass a struct which contains an array of integers, and change the values in the array. I am not sure I understand fully why I can do this.     J2EE as I understand is used to build Enterprise applications. My question is :What are the most popular public facing(internet) sites using j2ee stack. The one's that I know of are : linkedIn.com ,evite.com and sun ibm and oracle (obviously) Eclipse.org uses php, I wonder why? If you have worked on/know any other sites, can your share your experience and also the technologies used(if that's not an issue)? EDIT:It doesn't have to use the full stack. EDIT : There are quite a few ecommerce websites like bestbuy.com. I know this bcos I worked with the ATG(atg.com) ecommerce suite and their website lists their clients. Now I remember something about this at school but that was not for writing procedures. Also, doing some googling I observed that most tutorials where using it a lot.     If I change the type to const char str[Len], I get the following error: error: no matching function for call to ‘static_strlen(const char [5])’ Am I correct that static_strlen expects an array of const char references? My understanding is that arrays are passed as pointers anyway, so what need is there for the elements to be references? When I say "home" I mean the go-to place for official documentation, specifications, source code of the language, examples, etc.

The Client gives the name of the DVD he wants to rent. ... n. ...I will later have to form an association between a new instance of "RentDVD" class concept to the current Client c. My Domain Model is something like: I've made the Contract for the first and second operations as: Preconditions: none Postconditions: there exists a Client c such that c.clientNumber = clientNumber. Now, I don't know if I should form an association between this Client c and the DVDStore(that I intend to use as front-end). If I don't make the association, how will I later be able to "reference" this same Client? Should I be making an association between Client and a different concept? Thanks

Overload resolution won't call functions accepting arguments by non-const ref, right? Why doesn't it reject in the following because the constructor wants a Test&?   • Getters and Setters: Code smell, Necessary Evil, or Can't Live Without Them [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Allen Holub wrote “You should never use get/set functions”, is he correct? Is there a good, no, a very good reason, to go through all the trouble of using getters and setters for object-oriented languages? What's wrong with just using a direct reference to a property or method? Is there some kind of "semantical coverup" that people don't want to talk about in polite company? Was I just too tired and fell asleep when someone walked out and said "Thou Shalt Write Copious Amounts of Code to Obtain Getters and Setters"? Follow-up after a year: It seems to be a common occurrence with Java, less so with Python. I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of a cultural phenomena (related to the limitations of the language) rather than "sage advice". The -1 question score is complete for-the-lulz as far as I am concerned. It's interesting that there are specific questions that are downvoted, not because they are "bad questions", but rather, because they hit someone's raw nerve.

    I am using a IoC Container (Castle Windsor) to instantiate classes accordingly to the configuration file. If I want to add classes from a new dll that didn't exist when I compiled the project, there is any way to do that without recompiling? Edit: As this project is a Service Host for WCF service, and the classes that I want to include after compilation are WCF Services I would like also to know if I can include endpoint information about new services without recompiling.

  • app.config files of referenced dlls

    I have a Web Project (VS 2008) that references a bunch of DLLs. The DLLs are built separately, so the project references binaries and not DLL projects. Some of the DLLs have their own app.config, which I want to be copied autmatically to the web project's output directory. Is there any suitable generic way to achieve this?
