• Fancy dynamic list in Android: TableLayout vs ListView

  There is a requirement to have not-so-trivial dynamic list, each record of which consists of several columns (texts, buttons). It should look something like: Text11 Text12 Button1 Button2 Text21 Text22 Button1 Button2 ... At first obvious way to accomplish that seemed to be TableLayout. I was expecting to have layout/styling data specified in res/layout/*.xml and to populate it with some dataset from java code (as with ListView, for which its possible to specify TextView of item in *.xml and bind it to some array using ArrayAdapter). But after playing for a while, all I found to be possible is fully populating TableLayout programatically. Still, creating TableRow by TableRow and setting layout attributes directly in java code doesn't seem elegant enough. So the questions are: Am I at the right path? Is TableLayout really best View to accomplish that? Maybe it's more appropriate to extend ListView or something else to meet such requirements? Is it possible to have TableLayout/TableRow template specified in *.xml and data bound to this template in java side?

• C# Windows Media Player - Repeat single song in a playlist

  I have a PlayList loaded into my WMP instance, and I want it to loop just one song. Everything I've Googled up so far tells me to do this: private AxWindowsMediaPlayer wmp; wmp.settings.setMode("loop", true); However, this only seems to make the entire PlayList repeat. The behavior I want is that, if I enable "repeat" when song 5 in the PlayList is playing, then song 5 will keep automatically repeat when it finishes (instead of proceeding to song 6). Most car MP3 players already work this way; is there a nice native way to do this in my C# program, or will I have to devise a "hack" solution, like intercepting the event that fires when the next song is loaded?

• Custom HTML attributes on SelectListItems in MVC2?

  I have a need to add custom HTML attributes, specifically classes or styles to option tags in the selects generated by Html.DropDownFor(). I've been playing with it, and for the life of me I can't figure out what I need to do to get what I need working. Assuming I have a list of colors that I'm generating the dropdown for, where the option value is the color's identifier, and the text is the name... here's what I'd like to be able to see as output: <select name="Color"> <option value="1" style="background:#ff0000">Red</option> <option value="2" style="background:#00ff00">Green</option> <option value="3" style="background:#0000ff">Blue</option> <!-- more here --> <option value="25" style="background:#f00f00">Foo Foo</option> </select

• X509 Certificates, DigitalSignature vs NonRepudiation (C#)

  We have been handed a set of test sertificates on smart cards for developing a solution that requires XML messages to be signed using PKI. Each (physical) smart card seems to have two certificates stored on it. I import them into the Windows certificate store using software supplied by the smart card provider, and then use code resembling the following to iterate over the installed certificates: foreach (X509Certificate2 x509 in CertStore.Certificates) { foreach (X509Extension extension in x509.Extensions) { if (extension.Oid.Value == "one we are interested in") { X509KeyUsageExtension ext = (X509KeyUsageExtension)extension; if ((ext.KeyUsages & X509KeyUsageFlags.DigitalSignature) != X509KeyUsageFlags.None) { // process certs here We have been told to use the certificates that have the NonRepudiation key usage flag set to sign the XMLs. However, the certificate that has the NonRepudiation flag has this flag only, and not for instance the DigitalSignature flag which I check for above. Does this strike anyone but me as slightly odd? I am in other words told to sign with a certificate that does not (appear to) have the DigitalSignature usage flag set. Is this normal procedure? Any comments? Thanks.

  Hello. I'm playing a little bit with the new StackOverflow API. Unfortunately, my JSON is a bit weak, so I need some help. I'm trying to deserialize this JSON of a User: {"user":{ "user_id": 1, "user_type": "moderator", "creation_date": 1217514151, "display_name": "Jeff Atwood", ... "accept_rate": 100 }} into an object which I've decorated with JsonProperty attributes: [JsonObject(MemberSerialization.OptIn)] public class User { [JsonProperty("user_id", Required = Required.Always)] public virtual long UserId { get; set; } [JsonProperty("display_name", Required = Required.Always)] public virtual string Name { get; set; } ... } I get the following exception: Newtonsoft.Json.JsonSerializationException: Required property 'user_id' not found in JSON. Is this because the JSON object is an array? If so, how can I deserialize it to the one User object? Thanks in advance!

• Removing offline/defunct files in SQL server 2008

  How to remove traces of files marked as OFFLINE or DEFUNCT in Microsoft SQL server 2008? I have been playing around with a setup where I create a database with 3 file-groups which are: Primary, FileGroupData and FileGroupIndex. The clustered index is using FileGroupData and a non-clustered index is set to use FileGroupIndex. To simulate a disk failure I've shut down SQL server and manually deleted the files in index file-group. To start the database I'll mark the files 'OFFLINE', but after that I can't delete the index files, which are now offline. I don't have backup of the files as they are merely indices, but that has the implication that I can't restore the files and have their status as "ONLINE". How would you recommend removing the files and the file-group as they still show up in management studio under files/file-groups. Management studio is not able to delete them. • fast forward/streaming in html5 video? RTSP?

  right now I've got a few .mp4's hosted on Amazon S3. I know that S3 has support for RTMP, which is useful for streaming Flash. I'd like to accomplish something similar with html5 video; my biggest issue is that I need the ability to seek (fast forward) to a particular part of the video. Right now when I query the video, it loads the entire video before playing, which is a waste of bandwidth/dealbreaker. In what manner could this be implemented? Is this even possible? Looks like RTSP would be a good bet, but I haven't found whether anyone has rolled this out successfully.

• MPMoviePlayerController on large videos causes massive memory spike, and a level 1 memory warning

  When viewing images my application hums along nicely with low memory consumption, once I try to watch a video using MPMoviePlayerController memory usage spikes way up, dwarfing the previous memory graph and if I play the video it causes a 'memory warning. Level=1' message. The video files (mp4) aren't even that big, 40MB or so, and it doesn't matter if I play the file streamed from a URL or loaded from a local file, actually the memory spike is even worse if I try to stream it. • How do I use local memory in OpenCL?

  I've been playing with OpenCL recently, and I'm able to write simple kernels that use only global memory. Now I'd like to start using local memory, but I can't seem to figure out how to use get_local_size() and get_local_id() to compute one "chunk" of output at a time. For example, let's say I wanted to convert Apple's OpenCL Hello World example kernel to something the uses local memory. How would you do it? Here's the original kernel source: __kernel square( __global float *input, __global float *output, const unsigned int count) { int i = get_global_id(0); if (i < count) output[i] = input[i] * input[i]; } If this example can't easily be converted into something that shows how to make use of local memory, any other simple example will do.   I've just started playing with The Django Form Validation Framework on Google App Engine (from google.appengine.ext.db import djangoforms) and I got stuck googling how to customize forms using it. I was wondering whether the following are possible using the package: Add help texts beside/below input/select fields and textareas (e.g. "This field is required", "Example: qwerty123") Add/modify attributes for the input/select fields and textareas (e.g. adding the following attributes: class, id, name, maxlength, minlength, etc.) Add custom validations like checking whether a particular field should be unique or checking a value against a regular expression Modify the error messages Add another column to the table generated by the form Also note that djangoforms.ModelForm is different from django.forms.Form.

• Audio recording error kAudioQueueErr_CannotStart on iPhone OS 3.0

  I'm working on a couple different iphone apps that both record and play sounds concurrently. Think multitrack mixing... play one sound a save it then listen to that sound while recording the next sound to another file. My mechanism for this has been to start up two different audio queues, one for recording, and one for playing. This was working A-OK until the release of OS 3.0... Since then, however, the following happens: If I start the recording queue first, it supposedly starts fine, but the call to AudioQueueStart for the playback queue returns kAudioQueueErr_CannotStart. If I start the playback queue first, it also supposedly starts fine, but the call to AudioQueueStart for the record queue returns the same error, kAudioQueueErr_CannotStart. Anyone have any luck debugging this error? Seems like maybe the two queues are stomping on each other's memory or something? The official description is: "The audio queue has encountered a problem and cannot start." Not super helpful... Jeremy

  OK, so I've been working on this for hours. I've found a couple of posts here, but nothing that actually resolves the problem. So, let me try it again... I have an MVC2 app using Ninject and a custom membership provider. If I try and inject the provider using the ctor, I get an error: 'No parameterless constructor defined for this object.' public class MyMembershipProvider : MembershipProvider { IMyRepository _repository; public MyMembershipProvider(IMyRepository repository) { _repository = repository; } I've also been playing around with factories and Initialize(), but everything is coming up blanks. Any thoughts/examples?

We have implemented the logic for that and already two or more player are able to play the game simultaneously on single device. Now we want to upgrade our application so that two or more user can compete each other playing from different device and different locations. • Read Song Title/Artist from a live audio stream with Silverlight 4?

  I have a SL4 project that is successfully streaming a great sounding WMA audio stream from a remote location. All of the MediaElement actions are straight forward. What I want to do is read the attributes that are passed as text along with the Audio stream. For instance the encoder of the stream embeds the title of the stream, the title of the song playing and the name of the artist for the current song. How would I pick this out using Silverlight 4 and then display it in a Label to the user? It sure would be easier than writing a bunch of web services to do the same thing. Windows Media Player and WinAmp all get the information I am just not seeing it in the MediaElement object collection.

• Best way to learn iphone audio queue services, step by step tutorial

  Hi Everyone, I'm trying to learn how to handle audio at a fairly low level with audio queue services. I have been progrmaing in memory managed languages for quite a while, and have just completed the c programing tutorial by vtc (2007). This has left me comfortable with the understanding of pointers and memory allocation, but the apple documention still leaves me wanting for a simpler implenation and explaination. Maybe I need to learn objective c and cocoa better. I have heard that this book is good. Cocoa(R) Programming for Mac(R) OS X (3rd Edition) Could someone suggest a learning path that is going to help me get an better understanding of working with audio and an iphone. I want to be able to play mp3 files back and also alter the pitch of them as they are playing. I am prepared that I may have to temporarily convert the mp3 files into pcm files to do things like that to them. Thanks everyone.

• Rails: Single Table Inheritance and models subdirectories

  I have a card-game application which makes use of Single Table Inheritance. I have a class Card, and a database table cards with column type, and a number of subclasses of Card (including class Foo < Card and class Bar < Card, for the sake of argument). As it happens, Foo is a card from the original printing of the game, which Bar is a card from an expansion. In an attempt to rationalise my models, I have created a directory structure like so: app/ + models/ + card.rb + base_game/ + foo.rb + expansion/ + bar.rb And modified environment.rb to contain: Rails::Initializer.run do |config| config.load_paths += Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/**"] end However, when my reads a card from the database, Rails throws the following exception: ActiveRecord::SubclassNotFound (The single-table inheritance mechanism failed to locate the subclass: 'Foo'. This error is raised because the column 'type' is reserved for storing the class in case of inheritance. Please rename this column if you didn't intend it to be used for storing the inheritance class or overwrite Card.inheritance_column to use another column for that information.) Is it possible to make this work, or am I doomed to a flat directory structure?

• AdMob and UINavigationControllers

  I'm playing around with AdMob and I"m trying to get something going with an auto-rotating view inside a uinavigationcontroller. I have the ad at the top of the screen. Not sure if this is the right approach, but in my LoadView method I have: self.navigationController.view.frame = CGRectMake(0,48,320,432); The navbar appears below the ad. When I rotate the phone to landscape is there a way to get the navbar (which is now across the top) to be 432px wide so it doesn't get cut off under the ad? I tried writing a method that is called when the device orientation changes, but it seems like manipulating the view on the navigationcontroller screws things up for every orientation except portrait. The view keeps getting shorter until it disappears. Thanks, Howie

• jQuery UI Tabs force delay before changing tab on mouseover

  Using the jQuery UI Tabs 1.7.2 with jQuery 1.4.2, is there a way to make it so that when you mouseover a tab, there is a delay before the tab switches? I've been looking into using the hoverIntent plugin to do this, but cannot figure out how it would fit in. Right now my code looks like: var tabs = $('.tabs').tabs({ event: 'mouseover' }); I've tried playing around with a callback on the show event, but I think I'm doing it wrong or not clear on when the callback happens: $( ".tabs" ).tabs({ show: function(event, ui) { setTimeout("FUNCTION_TO_CHANGE_TAB?", 200); } }); Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• application: didFinishLaunchingWithOptions doesn't execute, but RootViewController: viewDidLoad does

  I'm playing around with the iPad SplitView template and it was working fine before I started swapping out view objects in my RootViewController. When it was working fine, the application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method would be called and would setup my persistant store objects, then the RootViewController:viewDidLoad method would be called to populate my rootView with data from my store. I opened up IB and started swapping out view objects in my RootView and now the application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method never gets called, but the RootViewController:viewDidLoad method still does. Obviously, the app crashes because the viewDidLoad method depends on the successful execution of the didFinishLauchingWIthOptions method to setup the persistent store objects. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is causing this or how I can go about investigating what's causing this? I'm obviously new to iPhone OS development, so I apologize if this questions is absurd in any way. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

  Hey Guys I'm playing around with Interops and I thought: "Hey let's code something that accesses the clipboard ..." so I googled and found some articles (yeah I'm doing it with WPF - .Net 3.5). • How do I make silverlight button transparent while showing the image?

  I have a button that is programatically created, it's content is a stack panel with an image and a textblock. This all works great. I want to make the button behind the image and text transparent, so that the image and text looks like it's sitting on the background, but still have all the properties of the button (i.e. someone clicks in the button region it still registers the button click event). I have been playing with opacities, but every opacity I play with dealing with the button seems to set the whole button (image and text included) to that opacity value as well. How can I make the button opaque while making the text and image content still visible? Oh, this is silverlight 3. Thanks in advance.
