    I'm getting really confused, reading tutorials from SAMBA howto, which is hell of a mess. Could you write step-by-step, what events happen upon NetLogon? Or in particular, I can't get these things: I really can't get the mechanism of action of LDAP and its role. Should I think of Active Directory LDS as of its superset? What're the other roles of AD and why this term is nearly a synonym of term "domain"? What's the role of LDAP in the remote login sequence? Does it store roaming user profiles? Does it store anything else? How it is called (are there any upper-level or lower-level services that use it in the course of NetLogon)? How do I join a domain. On the client machine I just use the Domain Controller admin credentials, but how do I prepare the Domain Controller for a new machine to join it. What's that deal of Machine trust accounts? How it is used? Suppose, I've just configured a machine to join a domain, created its machine trust, added its data to the domain controller. How would that machine find WINS server to query it for Domain Controller NetBIOS name? Does any computer name, ending with <1C type, correspond to domain controller? In what cases Kerberos and LM/NTLM are used for authentication? Where are password hashes stored in, say, Windows2000 domain controller? Right in the registry? What is SAM - is it a service, responsible for authentication and sending/storing those passwords and accompanying information, such as groups policies etc.? Who calls it? Does it use Active Directory? What's the role of NetBIOS except by name service? Can you exemplify a scenario of its usage as a "datagram distribution service for connectionless communication" or "session service for connection-oriented communication"?     I have a set of CSV files with about a 100k records in them. The records need to be visualized in an x-y diagram. Because of the huge amount of data, Excel is not gonna cut it. Specifically, I'm looking for: Seamless zooming in and out of the data Navigation on both axis A "trace mode" where I can trace the line with the cursor and the value under the cursor is displayed as text. Does anyone know a tool capable of this?

  • How to get Gmail/browser to remember login?

    I am using firefox 3.6.22. I have several Gmail accounts. In the past, when I would go to the Gmail login, it would remember all my logins. All I would need to do would be to enter first letter and it would pick up the rest. Now it has stopped doing this. I can still type the whole login (if I remember it) and the password and get in. Why did it lose the ability to remember, and how do I get it back?

    I'm remotely investigating issue with my friend's WIN XP computer. The browsers (Chrome and IE) won't show any pages but message with err_connection_reset in details. I've tried to perform "telnet google.com 80" and send there "HEAD / HTTP/1.0" from console and everything went fine, but browsers refused to give me anything. I've checked for presence of firewalls and proxy servers in the settings, but nothing seems to be there. What else to check?

  • Home movie video browser

    I have a bunch of home movies that don't have useful filenames because they came straight off the camera. (I'm using Vista 64, by the way.) Picasa is pretty good for browsing through them and watching them, but it doesn't use my video card for rendering the videos. My CPU gets pegged at max usage, and full screen barely works. Windows Media Player or Quicktime works fine. Is there another application (like Picasa) that can be used for browsing through movies that both uses my video card and shows thumbnails of all the movies in my collection? I'd rather have something nicer than Windows Explorer. (The movies are h.264 AAC 1280x720.)

  • objects don't snap in browser window

    I've recently upgraded from XP Pro to Windows7 Pro - In XP Pro (and previous OS versions) you could move Thumbnails around in a window and they would snap/shuffle up/re-order themselves and be viewable as a slide show - it was unbelievably useful - I used it EVERY day, Windows 7 doesn't do this? Is there some setting I can change or is it just not there anymore? I use it for organising photo libraries for archiving - I haven't found any other way of doing this that suits my work. Does anyone know a way to get this feature back? Thanks

However, having logged in as the users myself, the messages cannot be found either through searching or by browsing the folder detailed in the log entry. The server returns the following error to the client: "The message could not be retrieved using the IMAP4 protocol. The message has not been deleted and may be accessible using either Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access. You can also try contacting the original sender of the message to find out about the contents of the message. Retrieval of this message will be retried when the server is updated with a fix that addresses the problem." Messages were transferred in to Exchange by copying them from the old Apple Xserve, accessed using IMAP. So my question, finally: 1. Is there any way to get the IMAP Exchange connector to rebuild its cache of messages since it doesn't seem to be pulling them directly from the MAPI store? 2. Alternatively, if there is no database, any ideas on why these messages don't appear in Outlook or OWA would be gratefully received. Many thanks, Mike

  • I lost the menu inside of Explorer (file browser) under Windows XP

    The question says it all. Inside of the file explorer under Windows XP, I lost all menu items from the top, as well as the toolbars. And right-clicking only gives me the file/directory context menu, nothing to restore the toolbar or the menu. Help. I don't use Windows so much (I much prefer linux), so I don't know all the latest tricks and hacks. Merci :-)

  • How to install wordpress without a web browser

    What I am trying to do is to automate wordpress website creation for the company I am working on. We have lots of information in our database for our customers and we want to create a wordpress website for each customer. The process works great and we have no trouble with the creation of websites/transfer of data or anything like that. The problem we do have is when we buy a new domain (http://www.newdomain.com) our process breaks (we call a stored procedure which installs all the data after the URL is called to install wordpress) if the domain takes more than 15min to resolve. We have tried doing looping (where the process checks to see if the domain resolves and keeps trying - but eventually if fails). So what we are looking for is to see if there is a way to install an URL without actually having the domain resolve yet. I have seen where possibilities where you can change the wp-config file but this doesn't work since we have more than one domain and it changes the source URL for all the domains. What we really need is just a way for us to manually start the install script through a call either through a database or some other way that doesn't check to see if the domain is resolved or pointing at the server or not. Thank for any suggestions. EDIT: All we do to install wordpress is call this URL: http://"newdomain".com/wp-admin/install.php?step=2 - if you change settings in the backend calling this URL will install wordpress without having to go through the wp-admin/install.php form

But since we got a new system administrator who installed some policy to terminate disconnected sessions after some hours, I never again could reconnect to to an unexpectedly terminated session (usually VPN problem) I found the following link which shows a similat scenario.

  • web services access not being reached thru the web browser [closed]

    I am trying to reference my .asmx webservices in .NET but my server is not exposed to the internet. When I put on the following address I get the message mentioned below. What's the reason for not being able to see the directory? Am I missing something in my IIS configuraction? Am I missing anything in my permissions? Just as reference I have other folders with webservices and I have the same issue. When I login to the server I am doing it with my windows user and password (I am using windows authentication). It's necessary to mention that when I put the URL I am getting a popup screen to put in my userid and password but it seems that's not able to validate since keeps asking me a couple of times.     Hi, I have an excel sheet for groceries. One column is the name, another is whether to buy it or not (checkbox) and another is the amount. I'd like to have a widget in the top row so that I start typing an item's name and it shows a list of matching items that I can select from, or if I continue to type and there's only one item, completes its name. When the last item is selected, other widgets show the amount, which I can edit and clicking 'check' will check the item in the list. I know this is kind of very specific, but am hoping someone can at least get me started. Thank you, Ittay

  • Fresh install of nginx causes browser to download index.html instead of opening it

    When I view this in Chrome, http://localhost:90 the file is downloaded instead of displayed in Chrome. This question has been asked a lot of times on SO, but about index.php files. My problem is a plain jane HTML file, not a PHP file. That hasn't been asked yet. I was hoping the solution would be similar, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Here's my example.com.conf: server { server_name localhost; listen 90; root /var/www/example.com/html index index.html location / { try_file $uri $uri/ =404; } } My index.html file contains only two words, no markup Hello World I think it's the mime.types. The mime.types file has the entry for html in it. This is a fresh nginx install. nginx -t reports "test is successful"

Edit: For those of you asking why I asked such an obvious question, I tried trickle -u 10 -d 20 firefox and I'm getting an error trickle: Could not reach trickled, working independently: No such file or directory firefox opens right after, but is definitely not rate limited...

  • Why is my browser using so much memory?

    Hi. I've recently had problems with Firefox running very slowly when I have many tabs open; say 20 tabs. My whole system would slow down. I decided to give Google Chrome a try, and it started out fine. But lately I am finding that it too, slows down my whole system. Looking at Task Manager, chrome.exe is using about 250MB of memory in about 6 different entries in task manager. However, when I shut Chrome down, memory usage is reduced by about 600MB. How can this be? (shows drop in memory usage after ending Chrome.) When my system locks up with Chrome having many tabs open, it takes 10 seconds to load the Start Menu, 10 seconds to expand All Programs, and each folder and subfolder, and 30 seconds for the program to be highlighted under my mouse. It also takes 10 seconds to switch to Notepad. Why is Chrome appearing to use so much more memory than Task Manager indicates? Why is my pagefile being used when I have around 1.1GB of memory? Can I set Chrome to run in RAM and not in the pagefile? How can 20 tabs use 600MB? That's 30MB per tab. Thanks for your help.

    I am having a very hard time debugging this issue, I may as well find out if others have seen anything similar. I am finding that Webkit browsers are rendering extra space in a stacked menu I'm using for the mobile layout on a site I'm developing. The best way to describe this is with the following images: You can see that the is selected and shown with the padding. There is no margin, and yet there is some space between the top of the padding and the bottom border of the sibling. Here is how it is supposed to look in Firefox: I am interested to see if the community knows what in the world is going on! As I move through the inspector, I am not able to highlight the offending area, making this very hard to diagnose, as I've said.

  • Is the guideline: don't open email attachments or execute downloads or run plug-ins (Flash, Java) from untrusted sites enough to avert infection?

    I'd like to know if the following is enough to avert malware as I feel that the press and other advisory resources aren't always precisely clear on all the methods as to how PCs get infected. To my mind, the key step to getting infected is a conscious choice by the user to run an executable attachment from an email or download, but also viewing content that requires a plug-in (Flash, Java or something else). This conscious step breaks down into the following possibilities: don't open email attachments: certainly agree with this. But lets try to be clear: email comes in 2 parts -the text and the attachment. Just reading the email should not be risky, right? But opening (i.e. running) email attachments IS risky (malware can be present in the attachment) don't execute downloads (e.g. from sites linked from in suspect emails or otherwise): again certainly agree with this (malware can be present in the executable). Usually the user has to voluntary click to download, or at least click to run the executable. Question: has there ever been a case where a user has visited a site and a download has completed on its own and run on its own? don't run content requiring plug-ins: certainly agree: malware can be present in the executable. I vaguely recall cases with Flash but know of the Java-based vulnerabilities much better. Now, is the above enough? Note that I'm much more cautious than this. What I'm concerned about is that the media is not always very clear about how the malware infection occurs. They talk of "booby-trapped sites", "browser attacks" - HOW exactly? I'd presume the other threat would be malevolent use of Javascript to make an executable run on the user's machine. Would I be right and are there details I can read up on about this. Generally I like Javascript as a developer, please note. An accepted answer would fill in any holes I've missed here so we have a complete general view of what the threats are (even though the actual specific details of new threats vary, but the general vectors are known).

  • Software to automate event notifications

    I maintain a small web site and people can send an email to request information about new events. I would like to automate the process of updating people about new events via email. Is there some easy existing software package to do this? Where I can configure events with a date/description/etc... and have mails get sent automatically? The alternative is to build a MySql database and have some python script in a cron job that does it. I'd like to know if this is a solved problem though. I'm running on a shared host (dreamhost if it matters)
