  When deciding on a technology to use for web apps, it's become a difficult choice between GWT and Dart and I am looking for guidance in deciding. GWT is a java programmer's dream because they don't have to learn a new language or have to worry about a separate IDE or extra plugin etc. GWT was sold using this value proposition - one didn't need to program in Javascript. But are Google making a U-turn and saying "go through the hassle of learning a new language" afterall? Or is it intended for there to be a Java to Dart compiler so that Java developers do not have to learn a new language? (this is not a rant, so I don't know why you are down-voting the question) Note: "the syntax is very similar" is not a justification. You could say why bother with GWT and just work with Java + Javascript directly.

• Uploading Files Using ASP.NET Web Forms, Generic Handler and jQuery

  In order to upload files from the client machine to the server ASP.NET developers use FileUpload server control. The FileUpload server control essentially renders an INPUT element with its type set to file and allows you to select one or more files. The actual upload operation is performed only when the form is posted to the server. Instead of making a full page postback you can use jQuery to make an Ajax call to the server and POST the selected files to a generic handler (.ashx). The generic handler can then save the files to a specified folder. • Mercurial release management. Rejecting changes that fail testing

  Researching distributed source control management (specifically mercurial). My question is more or less what is the best practice for rejecting entire sets of code that fail testing? Example: A team is working on a hello world program. They have testers and a scheduled release coming up with specific features planned. Upcoming Release: Add feature A Add feature B Add feature C So, the developers make their clones for their features, do the work and merge them into a QA repo for the testers to scrutinize. Let's say the testers report back that "Feature B is incomplete and in fact dangerous", and they would like to retest A and C. End example. What's the best way to do all this so that feature B can easily be removed and you end up with a new repo that contains only feature A and C merged together? Recreate the test repo? Back out B? Other magic?

  Tooltips is always a good usability practice to display descripitve and meaningful message on UI, which provide guidance and extra information to users visually. However, I cannot find this kind of handy "control" in the latest version (40412) of the AJAX control toolkit. (Feature request?) The traditional HTML "title" or "tooltips" tag of control cannot make the users (nor even developers) happy, so I searched and found this Tooltip Extender control today. • How do I clear all gnome shell notifications?

  I use Jupiter as a power manager. Now I get a good number of notifications from it. I do not have problem with the fact that I get all these notifications. I do however, want to be able to clear all gnome shell notifications with a few clicks. Currently, my entire bottom edge of the screen is filled with notifications and I do not wish to clear each item one by one. So my question is, how do I clear these notifications? If this is not possible in the ui, is it possible to write an extension to do it? Where should I suggest this feature to gnome developers? Gnome forums are almost dead now, the administrator has not activated my created account since 5 days!

  As of today I only knew about ubuntu-bug which I could use to report bugs about a specific program. But now I learned about apport-collect and apport-bug which basically are: apport-bug - Reports problems to launchpad using Apport to collect a lot of information about your system to help the developers fix the problem and avoid unnecessary questions and answers. apport-collect - Works as apport-bug but it send the information to an already existing bug report. • What is the most complicated data structure you have used in a practical situation?

  The germ for this question came up from a discussion I was having with couple of fellow developers from the industry. Turns out that in a lot of places project managers are wary about complex data structures, and generally insist on whatever exists out-of-the-box from standard library/packages. The general idea seems to be like use a combination of whats already available unless performance is seriously impeded. This helps keeping the code base simple, which to the non-diplomatic would mean "we have high attrition, and newer ones we hire may not be that good". So no bloom filter or skip-lists or splay trees for you CS junkies. So here's the question (again): Whats the most complicated data structure you did or used in office? Helps get a sense of how good/sophisticated real world software are.

  I'm in the middle of co-producing a "development approach" document for off-shore resources as they ramp up onto our project. The most recent (similar) document our company has used is over 80 pages, and that does not include coding standards/conventions documents. My concern is that this document will not be consumable and will therefore fail. What should be in a development approach document? Are there any decent guidelines on this topic? EDIT: The development approach document should detail the practices and techniques that will be used by software developers while software is designed, built, and tested.

• Best practices on separating Update and Draw on game loop

  I've been working on my first HTML5 prototype and I found a good model that uses the regular Update and Draw loop we see in game dev. My question is, where does one end and the other begins? The question popped when I wanted to rotate and draw an Image, and I kept wondering if the work of changing the tranformation matrix (that I presume would be a bit expensive since it works on the whole pixel array of an image) and calculating the right position do draw it would characterize drawing work, or maybe not, since after that I may need to check for collision or something similar. Thinkig of it, seems like a silly question, but I would like some advice from more experienced developers. Where does does update ends and draw starts? Thanks in advance.

• iTunes Connect: Can I have one bank account for every currency I receive?

  As I understand it, Apple does not do currency exchanges when they pay the app developers, they just forward the 70% share in the currency the customers bought it. So, if an app is available in different markets, the developer receives payments in different currencies. Is there a way to enter one bank account for every currency? For example, I'd like to set up a bank account in EUR for payments in EUR, one in GBP for payments in GBP, and likewise for USD etc. If all payments are going to the same bank account, my bank charges high conversion rates every time a payment in a 'foreign' currency comes in.

• Testing what is happening inside your BizTalk solution

  As BizTalk developers we all know that one of the common challenges is how to test your BizTalk solution once it is deployed to BizTalk. Hopefully most of us are using the BizUnit framework for testing, but we still have the limitation that it's a very Black Box test. I have put together a sample and video to show a technique where I'm using the Logging Framework from the BizTalk CAT Team at Microsoft and where by BizUnit test is able to make assertions against the instrumentation going through the framework. This means that I can test for things happening such as the fact a component was executed or which branch of an orchestration was executed by simply using my normal instrumented code.
