  • Added tagging to existing model, now how does its admin work?

    I wanted to add a StackOverflow-style tag input to a blog model of mine. This is a model that has a lot of data already in it. class BlogPost(models.Model): # my blog fields try: tagging.register(BlogPost) except tagging.AlreadyRegistered: pass I thought that was all I needed so I went through my old database of blog posts (this is a newly ported blog) and copied the tags in. It worked and I could display tags and filter by tag. However, I just wrote a new BlogPost and realise there's no tag field there. Reading the documentation (coincidentally, dry enough to be used as an antiperspirant), I found the TagField. Thinking this would just be a manager-style layer over the existing tagging register, I added it. It complained about there not being a Tag column. I'd rather not denormalise on tags just to satisfy create an interface for inputting them. Is there a TagManager class that I can just set on the model? tags = TagManager() # or somesuch

  • In MVC2, how do I validate fields that aren't in my data model?

    I am playing with MVC2 in VS 2010 and am really getting to like it. In a sandbox application that I've started from scratch, my database is represented in an ADO.NET entity data model and have done much of the validation for fields in my data model using Scott Guthrie's "buddy class" approach which has worked very well. However, in a user registration form that I have designed and am experimenting with, I'd like to add a 'confirm email address' or a 'confirm password' field. Since these fields obviously wouldn't exist in my data model, how would I validate these fields client side and server side? I would like to implement something like 'Html.ValidationMessageFor', but these fields don't exist in the data model. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, I'm building an app using ASP.NET MVC which I want to use a strongly type view model, which contains a List called items which contains an id int and itemName string. The view model also conatins a List called people, and the Person class contains a List. The way I want to display the information is as a table, with each row having a column of Person name, then n number of columns which contain checkboxes, one for each of the List, and checked based on whether the Person's List (called items) contains the id of the Item. I have the display working fine, but I'm struggling to understand how to name the items so that the posted method can read the data.     Hello, I've written a C++ library that reads in this 3d model file (collada DAE). uptil now, I would output a list of triangles and handle each at rendering stage. But now, I need to attach some Bounding sphere information with the imported model. I need some advice on how should I organize this in code. Here are some specs of the 3D file format: - 3D model is represented as a Tree consisting of nodes - each node can contain other nodes, geometry information, transformation etc My requirements: - a bounding sphere associated with each node, thereby yielding a tree of bounding sphere hierarchy for the model itself. - actual vertex information What would be the recommended way to deal with this situation?     Can Permalink_fu combine 2 or more model attributes to create a unique permalink? Let's say I have a Business Model, this model contains :name, :address, :phone, :city, :state, :country etc. attributes. Right now I have permalink set up in this model only for :name has_permalink :name So I would get "/biz/name". However I would like to combine the Business name, city, and a incremental number if there are more than 1 location in the city for that business. For example I would like to use: "/biz/joes-coffee-shack-chicago" for the permalink or if a multple location business "/biz/starbucks-chicago-92" Is this possible with the current permalink_fu plugin or some fork of permalink_fu? Or will this require some modification to the permalink_fu plugin?

    I have a Silverlight DataGrid that's being populated with different types of data for each column. I'm trying to figure out how to format some of the contents of the DataGrid's cells, specifically for dates and formatting. I have a date column that's currently displaying like: 3/11/2010 12:00:00 AM. I would rather it display like 3/14/2010. I have a number column that's currently displaying like: 51.32. I'd rather it display as currency like $51.32. I'm not sure how I can go about doing this. I'd prefer to do it in XAML instead of C#, but both solutions are fine.   • wpf 4 datagrid not highlighting row.

    I have a shiny new wpf 4 datagrid, and no matter what I do I can't make the row highlight when the user clicks on a cell. It works on the empty "new record" row on the bottom, but not on rows with data (yes I've tried with and without readonly).   • Django 1.5 custom User model error. "Manager isn't available; User has been swapped"

    I extend the django user model as described in the dev doc. I wan't to keep most of the original User model features so I extend the AbstractUser class. I've defined in settings.py: AUTH_USER_MODEL = 'myapp.CustomUser' My user class: class CustomUser(AbstractUser): custom_field = models.ForeignKey('OtherModel') objects = UserManager() Everything seems to work fine but when I try to make it managed by the admin site: admin.site.register(CustomUser, UserAdmin) I get this error on the admin CustomUser creation page (after validation of the password confirmation form): AttributeError: Manager isn't available; User has been swapped for 'myapp.CustomUser' The point is that I need this model managed by the admin site in order to have the same creation process as with the original User model (two step process with password validation). As an example, a view might display a list of items in a shopping cart, fields for customer's credit card info, and fields for customer's billing information. The view model might contain properties for all that OR it might only contain properties for the shopping cart items.

  • Is it bad to use a model directly from a view in codeigniter?

    I know normally the data is passed thru to the view with the controller. however, currently in my view I load my model ($this-load-model('Db_model');) so i can use it in a loop to retrieve a users profile picture path from a array of IDs that is passed from controller. Will loading the db model in the view to accomplish this make my site more vulnerable or bad form? To me it seems to be outside of MVC concept but its working atm. thanks

    How do I model having multiple Addresses for a Company and assign a single Address to a Contact? Contacts belong_to a Company. A Company has_many Contacts. A Company also has_many Addresses. And each Contact belongs_to an Address. How do I model this? I have Model/Contacts.rb belong_to :Company belong_to :Address (?) Model/Company.rb has_many :Contacts has_many :Addresses Address is an aggregation of :street1, :street2, :city, :state, :zip so not clear exactly what to do there. So what would I do in my _form so that when I have a contact/new I am able to either default to a main address or select one of the others? If none of them match, adding for a Contact makes that address available to any subsequent contact?

I've set the mapping up in NHibernate to reflect this: <id name="ID"> <generator class="identity" /> </id> And it all works fine. Trouble is, I need to get the generated ID after I've saved a new model to use elsewhere: var model = new MyModel(); session.SaveOrUpdate(model); But at this stage model.ID == null, not the ID. There are times that I end up letting the model binder bind part of an object and get the rest out of session at the controller action level. Does it make better sense to bind the entire object from the model binder (e.g. querystring, form, and session)?

  • What kind of data do I pass into a Django Model.save() method?

    Lets say that we are getting POSTed a form like this in Django: rate=10 items= [23,12,31,52,83,34] The items are primary keys of an Item model. I have a bunch of business logic that will run and create more items based on this data, the results of some db lookups, and some business logic. I want to put that logic into a save signal or an overridden Model.save() method of another model (let's call it Inventory). The business logic will run when I create a new Inventory object using this form data. Inventory will look like this: class Inventory(models.Model): picked_items = models.ManyToManyField(Item, related_name="items_picked_set") calculated_items = models.ManyToManyField(Item, related_name="items_calculated_set") rate = models.DecimalField() ... other fields here ... New calculated_items will be created based on the passed in items which will be stored as picked_items. My question is this: is it better for the save() method on this model to accept: the request object (I don't really like this coupling) the form data as arguments or kwargs (a list of primary keys and the other form fields) a list of Items (The caller form or view will lookup the list of Items and create a list as well as pass in the other form fields) some other approach? I know this is a bit subjective, but I was wondering what the general idea is. I've looked through a lot of code but I'm having a hard time finding a pattern I like.
