    I'm running into the Windows Vista/7 Program Compatibility Assistant problem described here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1069135/this-program-might-not-have-installed-correctly-message-in-windows-7-rc The solution (backed-up by similar questions elsewhere, and MSDN), is apparently to add a 'compatibility' section to setup.exe's manifest. InstallShield 10 SP1 does this automatically, but unfortunately I only have InstallShield 2009. How would I go about editing the manifest? Is there a way to do this programmatically, so I can integrate it into my build?

  • Memory issues - Living vs. overall -> app is killed

    I'm trying to check my applications memory issues in Instruments. When I load the application I play some sounds and show some animations in UIImageViews. To save some memory I load the sounds only when I need it and when I stop playing it I free it from the memory. problem 1: My application is using about 5.5MB of Living memory. BUT The Overall section is growing after start to 20MB and then it's slowly growing (about 100kB/sec). But responsible Library is OpenAL (OAL::Buffer), dyld (_dyld_start)-I am not sure what this really is, and some other stuff like ft_mem_qrealloc, CGFontStrikeSetValue, … problem 2: When the overall section breaks about 30MB, application crashes (is killed). According to the facts I already read about overall memory, it means then my all allocations and deallocation is about 30MB. But I don't really see the problem. When I need some sound for example I load it to the memory and when I don't need it anymore I release it. But that means when I load 1MB sound, this operation increase overall memory usage with 2MB. Am I right? And when I load 10 sounds my app crashes just because the fact my overall is too high even living is still low??? I am very confused about it. Could someone please help me clear it up?   • Eclipse Package Explorer Zoom?

    Configuring Eclipse to look exactly how you want is a tough job I've found, therefore I'm not going to attempt to do this myself. I'd like to 'zoom out' of the Package Explorer side bar? You see, I like only having my code on the screen with a small section for the files in the project - however I can never see the full path of the file or package I'm currently in because of this. Is there a way to keep the 'main screen' normal, but zoom out of the Package Explorer by about 50%?

  • Delphi Unit local variables - how to make each instance unique?

    Ok, this, I'm sure is something simple that is easy to do. The problem : I've inherited scary spaghetti code and am slowly trying to better it when new features need adding - generally when a refactor makes adding the new feature neater. I've got a bunch of code I'm packing into a single unit which, in different places in the application, controls the same physical thing in the outside world. The control appears in several places in the application and operates slightly differently in each instance. What I've done is to create a unit with all of the features I need which I can simply drop, as a frame, into each form that requires it. Each form then uses the unit's interface methods to customise the behaviour for each instance. The problem within the problem : In the unit in question (the frame) I have a variable declared in the IMPLEMENTATION section - local to the unit. I also have a procedure, declared in the TYPE section which takes an argument and assigns that argument to the local variable in question - each form passes a unique variable to each instance of the frame/unit. What I want it to do is for each instance of the frame to keep its own version of that variable, different from the others, and use that to define how it operates. What seems to be happening, however, is that all instances are using the same value, even if I explicitly pass each instance a different variable. ie: Unit FlexibleUnit; interface uses //the uses stuff type TFlexibleUnit=class(TFrame) //declarations including procedure makeThisInstanceX(passMeTheVar:integer); private // public // end; implementation uses //the uses var myLocalVar; procedure makeThisInstanceX(passMeTheVar:integer); begin myLocalVar:=passMeTheVar; end; //other procedures using myLocalVar //etc to the end; Now somewhere in another Form I've dropped this Frame onto the Design pane, sometimes two of these frames on one Form, and have it declared in the proper places, etc. Each is unique in that : ThisFlexibleUnit : TFlexibleUnit; ThatFlexibleUnit : TFlexibleUnit; and when I do a: ThisFlexibleUnit.makeThisInstanceX(var1); //want to behave in way "var1" ThatFlexibleUnit.makeThisInstanceX(var2); //want to behave in way "var2" it seems that they both share the same variable "myLocalVar". Am I doing this wrong, in principle? If this is the correct method then it's a matter of debugging what I have (which is too huge to post) but if this is not correct in principle then is there a way to do what I am suggesting?     In this section of a function (.NET 2.0): public void AttachInput(T input, int inIndex) where T : struct { if (input is int) { Inputs.Add(inIndex, (int)input); InputCount++; IsResolved = false; } } The compiler shows the error "Cannot convert type 'T' to 'int'. So, I used Convert.ToInt32() which worked - but does it box input to an object? Is there a better solution? Thanks

    Hi, I have a screen and I have a section where a component screen is inserted. I have a cancel button on the component screen and was wondering if it is possible to remove the component from the main screen using the cancel button. Is this at all possible? So, once the component is shown, cancel on the component screen removes it so the first screen is shown again. JD Ps. I am using Blend 3.

    Hello, I'm testing my App and in a very simple view, each time a tap on a UITableView row, my allocation overall bytes get higher and higher and never go downs. I don't have any special code there, so I created a new project from scratch with a very simple view, force one section and just three rows. In the didSelectRowAtIndexPath code do nothing, and fire it with instruments and memory allocation and, the memory goes up with every cell selection ...     Does anyone have experience developing with ESQL/C for INFORMIX-SQL, as in calling C funcs within "Perform" screen generator and "ACE" report writer? I have ISQL without ESQL/C. I experimented compiling a perform screen, where in the instructions section I put "ON BEGINNING CALL userfunc() END" and although I don't have ESQL/C, the Perform screen successfully compiled without errors!.. Apparently, the compiler didn't reject the C call even though there's no ESQL/C or C program linked.

  • 2 roles, admin and user. Is using anything other than basic http auth overkill?

I also want to create a mailing list, collecting contact info, (maybe a spree store in the future too.) Should I just use basic http authentication and check if the user is admin? Or is a plugin like authlogic better, then define user roles even though there would only be two; admin and user?

    I frequently create (and inherit) small to medium websites where I have the following sort of code in a single file (normally named global.js or application.js or projectname.js). If functions get big, I normally put them in a seperate file, and call them at the bottom of the file below in the $(document).ready() section. If I have a few functions that are unique to certain pages, I normally have another switch statement for the body class inside the $(document).ready() section. How could I restructure this code to make it more maintainable? Note: I am less interested in the functions innards, more so the structure, and how different types of functions should be dealt with.   • grdb not working variables

    hi, i know this is kinda retarded but I just can't figure it out. I'm debugging this: xor eax,eax mov ah,[var1] mov al,[var2] call addition stop: jmp stop var1: db 5 var2: db 6 addition: add ah,al ret the numbers that I find on addresses var1 and var2 are 0x0E and 0x07. I know it's not segmented, but that ain't reason for it to do such escapades, because the addition call works just fine. Could you please explain to me where is my mistake? I see the problem, dunno how to fix it yet though. The thing is, for some reason the instruction pointer starts at 0x100 and all the segment registers at 0x1628. To address the instruction the used combination is i guess [cs:ip] (one of the segment registers and the instruction pointer for sure). The offset to var1 is 0x10 (probably because from the begining of the code it's the 0x10th byte in order), i tried to examine the memory and what i got was: 1628:100 8 bytes 1628:108 8 bytes 1628:110 <- wtf? (assume another 8 bytes) 1628:118 ... whatever tricks are there in the memory [cs:var1] points somewhere else than in my code, which is probably where the label .data would usually address ds.... probably.. i don't know what is supposed to be at 1628:10 ok, i found out what caused the assness and wasted me whole fuckin day. the behaviour described above is just correct, the code is fully functional. what i didn't know is that grdb debugger for some reason sets the begining address to 0x100... the sollution is to insert the directive ORG 0x100 on the first line and that's the whole thing. the code was working because instruction pointer has the right address to first instruction and goes one by one, but your assembler doesn't know what effective address will be your program stored at so it pretty much remains relative to first line of the code which means all the variables (if not using label for data section) will remain pointing as if it started at 0x0. which of course wouldn't work with DOS. and grdb apparently emulates some DOS features... sry for the language, thx everyone for effort, hope this will spare someone's time if having the same problem... heheh.. at least now i know the reason why to use .data section :))))

I have tried to use the '.hidden = TRUE' property but it just hides the button from the view, leaving a white space behind. How do I programmatically remove the header of UITableView and have the table's content automatically resizes to fill in the removed header area?

    Depending on implementation, OMP can be quite useful to parallelize fairly arbitrary bits of code - e.g a parallel section inside a method that calls two independent methods - or it can be bad. It depends on how threads are created/cached, I think. How does the VC++ 2008 implementation work? And is the 2010 implementation significantly different in terms of features and performance/flexibility?

  • IE6 PNG transparency in UpdatePanel

    I have a child page with an UpdatePanel on it that is connected to a timer that autorefreshes every 5 seconds. I've tried a few different PNG fixes, and they work until the UpdatePanel refreshes that section. Then, depending on the fix the PNGs either disappear or go back to nontransparent. Do I need to forcefully run the javascript when the UpdatePanel refreshes? How would I go about this? Thanks!
